What's amusing is that, by the forum rules, that's perfectly fine. There's no direct link, so if you choose to satisfy your curiosity by going to said person's website, the blame is on you.
That's the thing about NSFW rules. At any point, anytime, people's definitions of that will be different, and regardless of how many stopgaps we put in to protect our ethical guilt, someone is going to get offended and blame it on someone else.
That's the nature of people. It's not my fault. -
People are selfish. Greed > Anger. Thusly, people aren't angry anymore.
My hopes that MMOArt will find it's footing are high. I don't think it can recover from yet another setback at this point. But things look good and progress is being made, so hope is high. -
I enjoy artistic endeavors as well as seeing the dramah that comes through every once in a while. Seeing as how most of the people I know post in the art forum, as opposed to the Virtue forums, I come here. There's also a lot of draw from artists that have open art threads, since I'm no less of an art ***** as anyone else.
Also, I need to keep an eye on Scarfy from time to time. >.> -

If he makes views like that public, for me, yes he does need one.

You're seriously gonna try to make sense out of someone's LULZy racism? Especially when they're foreign? Good luck. -
Down Scarfy. You make me look like a nice guy.
You know, this is the intarw3b and it's got all the benefits and drawbacks of being semi-anonymous. We should all understand this to it's core.
As for critiques? This is an open forum and just because you feel one way does not make that a rule. We can do whatever we want, so long as it's within the guidelines set by the forum mods here. The real pressure is from the arbitrary social guidelines that the in-crowd has decided upon. If you wish to have a happy stay, you will follow them, regardless of if it's right or wrong. If you don't care about feeling accepted and welcomed, then do whatever you like. The mob may insult you with words, but they can do little else.
If you post art online, then you open yourself up for anything that may come your way. It's arrogant to think that you can live in a happy little bubble where people only want to shower you with praise. That's not how reality works, and it's certainly reflected in an online environment. But if you want to make that critique, then you either muster up the strength to take on the self appointed rulers, or you back down and play by their rules. That's the reality of any forum community.
Being liked or disliked has never had anything to do with the truth. It's about going along with everyone else. -
Does he need one? Just take him off the commission list. It's really the best way to hurt someone. Through the wallet.

Why are people surfing DA at work? GET BACK TO WORK!

You're all totally sick for even thinking about doing adult things with your computer avatars. I mean, c'mon you know that people laugh at you for it right? What a waste of time and money. /jumproot
Srsly. -
in b4 the NSFW dramah!
Simply stunning. I have rarely had fewer words at my fingertips with which to state my awe struck position. -
Looking at this level of awesome makes my eyes bleed with joy.

We're talking say if someone commissioned someone to draw the Mona Lisa, and that person did, and then decided after giving it to the commissioner, to paint over parts of it and turn it into the Mona Rowr, then that is not so cool I believe.
[/ QUOTE ]
My point is that this is all opinion and not fact. Simply because you feel that this is an incorrect way of operating, doesn't actually make it incorrect. That's a distinction that you as a person have put onto that piece of art. There is no right or wrong way to create something.
[ QUOTE ]
a 2D image is usually perceived as a final image, whereas a 3D asset is never a final image
[/ QUOTE ]
As for 3d and 2d art distinctions, because you present your art in a 2d fashion, you are creating 2d art. Regardless of if that started as a manipulated model that was carefully crafted in another program, the finished image you present is 2d. It's not interactive and it doesn't have true depth, it's a flat image. So does your image count as a 2d image, or a 3d image? What makes it unique from other pieces of art that gives it the right to be "outside the normal rules" and free from the same critique of reuse? An artist using a model as basis for a life drawing is essentially copying someone else's form. A photographer does nothing but frame things that already exist. Why are these things considered 'correct' and yet others do not share this distinction?
I submit to you that it's simply opinion and nothing else. A set of 'morals' that people try to push onto other people with no real basis other than personal belief. Art is too ethereal and subjective to form into such hard cut lines. Regardless of how anyone may feel about it, they are not always right. Neither am I. There's going to be a truth and a falsehood to all of it, based on where your particular viewpoint is.
Your lazy is someone else's genius. If they're successful then who's to say different? -
I believe the 3d and 2d statement was made in reference to the equality of the 'moral' decision to re-use pieces.
Really, they're both valid types of art. Just because one uses virtual models really doesn't make it better or worse than a flat line drawing, it's simply different. As much as people may choose to not like it, or perhaps support it, it's no less 'lazy' than reusing a pose for a sculpture or a same model for a virtual actor. Just because one person deems it to be immoral does not mean that it's not perfectly acceptable in another situation or to someone else.
If people dislike the re-use of poses or 'reskinning' then I submit to you that Rowr's recent dressup doll is immoral as well. Any of the various people who do 'Timms' are also guilty of this sin. In fact, if you want to go down this road, Andy Warhol is supremely guilty because he only recolored photographs for his famous Marilyn piece. Are you willing to say that all of these art pieces are 'wrong' because they reuse art? Really, who is to say what art can and cannot be? The moment you start to put personal classifications on it, you fail to recognize it for what it is; Art. -

I don't think he sells the same drawing to two different commissioners... if he does then he's a slimeball.
[/ QUOTE ]
If both commissioners got what they wanted in the end, then why is this bad?
Art and the products artists make are very subjective. Aside from a varied sense of 'morals' from artist to artist, there's really no reason that this is a negative thing. The real qualifier would be if everyone is happy with it, in the end. -
I refuse commissions for MANY reasons. I would refuse a commission for a bad outfit as well. If it's a terrible costume and I dislike it, that's going to show in the drawing. And a bad drawing is not what the customer is paying for.
But 'bad' here is entirely opinion based. If Lord Darkity Darkmare of the Ebony Midnight Pitch Brigade wants to commission me to draw his light vacuum of a silhouette, then he's sad out of luck (and taste.) But if he finds common interest with Mr. Onyx and his Sharpies of Dusk, then they'll likely get along much better and both of them will enjoy the commissioning process and the end result.
Bottom line, you can always find someone that will work with you, if you just look hard enough. As well as people that you simply cannot work with, no matter how much you might try. -
If someone can't find Dimitrys of all people, then the world really has ended.
As for not posting it on HF, he likely doesn't want you to post it there because he has an active account there and posts it as well. That would be two copies of the same art that he made, on the same site. Your copy taking away hits from his copy. I don't claim that it's right, but he has a valid concern as the creator of said art. I just think that it's a bad way to do business, myself.
Consider this a lesson learned, ask about it early and don't commission anything that you can't repost later. Also, since Dimitrys is non-American, the copywrite laws may be different in his home country, perhaps putting him in the right. Too many things to think about and too many potential complications from it. -
I already posted before that I used your network to commission Zairyo for my kickass B/W Mel pic. I definitely enjoy it and I think it's a valuable resource.
-
Saytie, the fact that you are still alive is the greatest gift that anyone could enjoy. I am amazed that you are still doing art, but I am more pleased that you are still with us. That alone is enough.
I am stunned by your strength to keep doing art and I hope that you continue to enjoy it for a very long time to come. -
These sketches are the ultimate example of why gesture drawing is important to artists. Beautiful and dynamic, all of them.
-
OC typically refers to Original Character, which is to say a personal character.
To expand on this, I have a friend who has a published character and comic. He once tried to recreate his character in the game, but was reported for a copywrite violation and had his character genericized. He could not prove to NCSoft that he was indeed the creator of said character and thusly owned the rights to permit usage, so he just never bothered to try and fight it.
So while you're pretty safe with making your OC in the game engine, be aware that NCSoft basically owns that particular version of them, with the powers and costume included. -
Even I have a lovely piece from MMO Art that was completed a while ago and I love dearly, but I cannot support an artist that takes money up front and then neglects the contract he signed into. As much as I like Jomaro, he needs to really get out of this business. It's unfortunately obvious that he can't handle it for whatever reason.
Once is understandable, but this is a consistent pattern now. -
Suichi knows who he is. I was there for about an hour. Dunno if he heard the pass phrase though. >.>

I'm deflecting everything to say that I want to thank Servo for a wonderfully awesome piece that she did. I was out of town for a few days and completely missed the pic as it went up, as well as the post that got buried here in the landslide of BAWWdramah.
A friend of mine managed to grab it before it was taken down, so I could see it. It was extremely nice and I thank you for sharing it. :3 -
Sweet! Very nice Crestent. I'm glad that you got a good grade on it, it's definitely a nice accomplishment just to finish it in the first place.

Ugh, this is just unacceptable Alex! You should be ashamed for how Deviant this is! I am appalled and shocked!
Good work.
