  1. PCSAR (Paragon City Search and Rescue), an all Empathy (Defenders and Controllers) SG, used to have a chapter operating on Virtue (Infinity was the original server, I believe). If you're interested, you can give them a shout at their website. Tell 'em Stat sent you, some of the old-timers might remember that name.

Oh, very cool. I pretty much couldn't care less about the Snipe change (my Blaster's Sonic/EM), but that's excellent news right there.

EDIT: Hm...so then, should Power Boost affect the Regen?

  5. Hola.

So I gots me a new character whom I'm really digging, enough so that I'm looking to commission some art. Due to the nature of the character (14 year old politically conscious rapper named "Tantrum" (scored that name on Virtue no less; holla!) ), I wanted to try and find some artists whose work is of an urban slant (graffiti, street art) and/or cel-shading. Right now, I've got a small list of possibles including:

    Tovio Rogers
    Chamba
    Avionetca
    Paulo Barrios
    Adam Masterman
    Randy Kintz
    Dualmask
    Genzoman

If y'all can think of any others that might fit the bill, I'd be much obliged. I'll update the OP here as suggestions roll on in.

    Peace,
    SD

And, to quote myself; "like I said; crossroads".

I actually looked at the original question (Build Goals) from a different, broader perspective, and ended up landing on Defense again. It really does seem like when in doubt, build for Defense.
  7. I'm running the titular combination, and I'm at a bit of a crossroads regarding an IO build. My status quo with Blasters is to cap range first, but that seems really unnecessary with this combo. I also looked at a build with a priority on Damage bonuses, but the best I could get was a +39% Global increase (nothing to sneer at), which didn't seem like a huge boost given the tradeoff (13% or so Def across the board).

I'm wondering if I should just scrap traditional IO bonus slotting techniques, and just go for a grab bag of +Recovery, +HP, +Regen, and Procs.

    Like I said, crossroads.

I should mention that I do solo a fair amount, but I'm not looking to turn this guy into an AV killer (obviously); I probably won't even Incarnate him past Alpha, if that. Without getting too much into the builds I was looking at, it's concept character. Really what I was hoping to elicit were some alternative options to the tried-and-true, but seemingly extraneous (in this case), +Def/+Rech/+HP/+Regen.

All the same reasons I buy TPBs only, plus: creators get a bigger cut of TPB sales (as opposed to single issues). Also, I like having my comics in bookshelves like proper literature, rather than boxed up like something shameful or trivial.

    Agent 13

Anyone else remember the Agent 13 novels, graphic novels, and Top Secret rpg sourcebook? Rupert "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and Charlize Theron do! Coming to the big screen in 2014.
  11. Given your predilections, I wholeheartedly and unreservedly recommend James Robinson's "Starman".
  12. (Re)rolled an StJ/SD Scrapper a couple of days ago, and looking at some of the CoD/Mids info led to some questions.

So Rib Cracker (11.25%) and Against All Odds (7.5%) both apply -Dam. Related questions:

    1. It used to be the case that subsequent applications of -Res would actually increase -Dam debuffs. Is this still true?
    2. If the answer to 1 is "yes", how do Rib Cracker's dual debuffs of -Dam and -Res interact (ie, is the -Dam simultaneously boosted by the -Res, or only with subsequent attacks)?
    3. Again, if the answer to 1 is "yes", do -Res procs (Achilles, Gladiator, Reactive) perform identically to "regular" sources of -Res (for purposes of the -Dam increase; I know how the procs basically work), or differently?

I have this nagging feeling that the -Dam/-Res interaction was "fixed" at some point in the last year or so, but I can't verify that myself.
  13. Just a quick FYI; according to the wiki, it doesn't matter where you slot the Increased Critical IO. It's a Global Bonus, not a Proc, so isn't governed by the Procs Per Minute formula (again, according to the wiki, but that also seems logical).
  14. (( This would be a great idea for a monthly event. ))

Most attack chain discussions are ST-ish. I can't imagine anyone skipping Engulfing Darkness, but that doesn't really have a place in an attack chain discussion.

    Mind/Dark/Fire

I've always really liked Doms, but I could never find the one that was "right" for me; a nice mix of controls, ST+AoE damage, and the ability to solo AVs (I like soloing AVs; makes me feel special or something).

I started thinking about a Mind/Dark/Fire Dom, came home, and whipped up a quick Mids build. Yes, it's expensive as all get-out, but I wanted to see what a Purpled Up, no-holds barred build would look like. Would anyone care to take a look and see if I missed anything vital?

I went /Fire instead of /Ice for the extra AoE. Dominate is slotted the way it is because I want to be able to use that after Confusing an AV so that I have a smoother attack chain, and I'm not losing (as much) DPS. Looking at it, Terrify looks kind of redundant, but I can't think of what else I'd pick up to replace it. (EDIT: Actually, after messing about with Night Fall, it looks like THAT'S the redundant cone power; that thing is terrible).

  17. One of the odd things to come out of the Stalker changes is that I hardly ever use Hide anymore. The ATO proc puts you in Hidden even if you've not got it toggled on, and ASing when not in Hide is better for my KM Stalker (AS>(proc)>CS(buildup) is so much fun).
  18. The other day, I had the seed of an idea for a sort of Defiance 2.1, I suppose.

What if you kept the 2.0--usable T1 and T2 attacks when mezzed--but increased the damage of those attacks when mezzed? This would be a bit like a combination of Defiance 1.0 and the current 2.0. Additionally, the damage increase would scale negatively with team size, basically the inverse of the Defender inherent buff. So when you're solo and mezzed, which is a more dangerous situation for the Blaster, you would do more damage with those 3 attacks than if you were teamed and mezzed.

...I'm either not explaining that well, or it's actually not that palatable now that I look at it, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
  19. I'm going to continue to level my KM/Ice/Levi Stalker; here's hoping that Hide Proc+Chilling Embrace bug is either fixed, or just some rumor I heard (never did make it in to Beta this time around).
  20. I'll admit that I had to eat a bunch of Insps to beat Manticore, but I'm relatively sure that I was running at +2/x4 (it's just what I run at on my Sonic/ Blaster, so I'm assuming here). Any of the other Boss/EB/AV fights, it was really just a matter of jousting, cornering, etc.

Although the Mag 5000 Sleep I got hit with at the end of the Psyche/Malaise arc got me. [Wall of Text] is unavoidable, IIRC.
  21. At that setting, a Sonic/ Blaster--unless up against Sleep-resistant enemies--should hardly be getting hit, let alone defeated. Have you got, and use on every mob, the wonderful brokenness that is Sirens Song?

  23. Haven't received it yet, but I'm quite pleased with the service so far. They've been emailing me daily updates--sometimes two a day--as my build progresses through the process. At this point, it's at the "final burn-in" stage (installation of Windows and last bit of quality control), and then after that, it should be on its way. Very happy that it looks to arrive before/right around Christmas, as that means it will show up just about when I get my new speakers (Audioengine 2's), and I'll get a few weeks of playtime in before my Spring semester starts.
  24. Done and done!

(I ended up splurging on a new monitor, actually)

Start on their Intel Z68 configurator.

Change the CPU to i5 2500K
Leave memory as is (Free upgrade from 4GB to 8GB)
    Bump power supply to 650W
Bump video card to nVidia GTX560 Ti 2GB (Free upgrade from a 1GB card).
Head on to the next tab and add Windows 7 Home Premium (Unless any software you're using REQUIRES Win7 Pro).

About $1210 shipped with a 3 year warranty.

I know it's a bit outside your budget. But that cost is primarily the OS and shipping. The fact that hard drives have nearly doubled in price doesn't help either. If you already own a copy of Windows 7 and aren't squeamish about installing, you can cut out about $110. The shipping's unavoidable.
Cool, thanks a ton, Hyper. That's not too far above my price range, so I'm OK with that. It looks like, when I click on that link, all the options you mentioned are already chosen. Is that correct? (Just want to double check before I pull the trigger)
