So if you're on a kill X mission and you're 200 feet away from an enemy that somebody on your team has defeated, you don't get credit?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No - that isn't what I said. As long as either YOU or YOUR teammate is within 200 ft., you'll get credit for the defeat.
  2. Based on data from the Training Room and feedback on the forums, we will be making the following changes to how XP, Influence and other drops are divided:

If a player is in a zone, did NO damage in a combat and has dead for more than a minute, he receives no XP. If a player is more than 300 ft. away (an increase of 100 ft.) from the mob when it’s defeated and did NO damage, he receives no XP. Otherwise, the player receives his full share of XP.

If players are on a mission map, they always receive their full shares. There’s no distance limitation. Teams can split up in maps – players can be separated by elevators – everyone receives their XP.

This system does not affect Mission rewards.

We’ll be putting the distance and mission map changes up on the Training Room soon (week or so) to see how it plays out.

Now, let me clarify the situation with Badges and Defeat tasks. As long as you or any of your teammates are within 200 ft. of the defeated mob, EVERYONE on the team gets credit. This is not a change in Issue 4; this is the way that it currently works.

    Blaster Update

As this forum in particular evinces, some Blasters have come to think that they're no longer necessary in the 40+ game.

I've received a few PM's requesting that I give some sort of Update on the Blasters - are the devs going to do anything about it?

As my thread in the Dev Corner already announced, I want to take a look at Controllers. We've made some nice changes already in I4, but I want to make sure they're sufficient.

I promise I'll look at Blasters afterwards and take a much closer look at the issues. The major one that strikes me is that the secondaries are not all created equal. A couple complement the primary set SO much better than the rest. That's an issue not just for levels 40 - 50, but for ALL levels. The second major complaint is that damage doesn't scale well enough for Blasters in the late game. I'll look into that, too. And I'll make sure to read these boards to find others.
  4. I love the VS system. Heck, I play every Wednesday night. But we're not looking to duplicate their gameplay or overal system.

We chose AEG because of their dynamite record with card games. I love L5R - and Doomtown is one of the all time greats. I felt most comfortable with the direction that they're taking. Rest assured, we're involved in the process and aren't about to just throw this over the proverbial fence.

The RPG and the CCG are NOT about trying to make $. Instead, I pushed for both of these products because I knew they'd be cool. Strange, hunh? I'm not just the designer of CoH, but I'm also a fan. And as a fan, I want to see those things. So heck, we've been working on these things for quite a while.

So, if you aren't familiar with AEG yet - check 'em out!

See you in Wizard World LA!
  5. First of all, it'll be a Unisystem game - but with tweaks to combat.

Secondly, I might be GMing games of it at the big cons (Gen Con, Origins, etc.) - so keep your eyes peeled.
  6. To clarify...

Rick did some freelance concept writing for us before and just after the comic book got rolling.
  7. Just to prevent people from quoting me inaccurately...

Hamidon Enhancements boost either TWO aspects of a power by 50% or THREE aspects of a power by 30%.

If you battle in the Arena another hero in a weight class below you (weight classes are five level bands), you will be auto-exemplared to that weight class.

This also means that the effectiveness of your Enhancements are capped to the level of effectiveness of that weight classes' Enhancements. That means that your Hamidon Enhancement is considered at an S.O. or lower level, rather than +50%. You'll still have the advantage because two or three aspects are being boosted, but you won't have the overwhelming % advantage.

This, however, does not occur when fighting within your "weight" class. If you're in your weight class, Hamidon Enhancements are killer.
  8. Still here...been busy with visitors this week. Plus - we've got E3 around the corner and, of course, City of Villains (though I'm not saying anything other than "this year" for a time estimate).

And I've been working some on the Arena (playtesting) and even Issue 5 stuff. Oh - and whatever comes AFTER City of Villains. Wouldn't you like to know that?
  9. I'd like to think Striga as a whole set a new standard. We're going to try to use it as our goal in future zones and in City of Villains...
  10. I think people misunderstand why developers interfere and make changes. I could care less how fast someone earns influence. But I am concerned when someone is doing somethingg "unfun" in order to gain levels quickly and thereby bypassing other, more interesting content. Admittedly, "fun" and "unfun" are completely subjective, so people can disagree.
  11. I'm guessing that Accuracy will be nerfed.
  12. Thanks for all of your suggestions in the Dev Corner. I've noted them all down for analysis.

There's no immediate deadline for changes Archetype wide, though individual power sets might need attention sooner. I just wanted to say that nothing at the moment is set in stone.

    WonderCon

Unfortunately, other considerations prevent us from attending Dragon Con.

    WonderCon

    Dragon Con - no.
GDC - kinda. I'll be there for a panel talk, but that's about it.

    Kheldian changes

    [ QUOTE ]
why the heck is this going to take so long?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because any data change has a ripple effect across systems - even something which seems as small as powers adjustments. We need to playtest, QA, etc. in order to ensure stability.
  16. It was only our third event (if memory serves)...so we're still learning.

Rikti invasion was nice...Halloween worked well...and the Winter Lords had some good stuff.

We noted our errors and will rectify them next time.

    WonderCon

    Origins - definitely.
    Comic Con - definitely.
    Wizard Worlds - definitely.
    Gen Con - definitely.

Our great OCR team is going to post a convention calendar so that you can see when we'll be in your neck of the woods. Don't worry - I'll be going to cons in the Northeast, West, MidWest and Texas...

    WonderCon

We'll post something on the main page soon...but I wanted to let everyone know that Cryptic and NCSoft will be at WonderCon in San Francisco (Feb. 18th - 20th).

I'll be there to answer questions, give out prizes...so make sure you come!

    Kheldian changes

The ones I spoke of (removing the -30% debuff, etc.) are all in Issue 4. Just wanted to give you an update.
  20. The Kheldian role is that they can do a little of everything - and, on a full team, have a combination of defense and ranged offense that's second to none.
  21. [ QUOTE ]
Issue 5, in my opinion..is a long way off, somewhere around next January.

So Issue 4 is technically the last free update we'll see til after CoV is live.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not known for clear answers, but I'll break with tradition and just say...

Nope. Issue 5 WILL come out earlier than next January.

And there are TWO development teams within Cryptic - one on City of Heroes and one on City of Villains.
  22. Thought I'd pop in and give you my opinion...

I believe that you all are not just fans but customers. Because of that, I SHOULD listen to you. I SHOULD communicate with you. That's part of what you're paying for, after all.

It's easy to get away from doing chats, interviews, reading the boards and become absorbed with game design only. But I personally try to fight that temptation and be as open as possible.
  23. Pretty good...I'll give you a clue on Brickstown...think Mesopotamian...
  24. Quick update...

I read through all the posts last night and this morning; I've compiled a list of several dozen features. These will probably make it in by City of Villains (if not earlier). Thanks for all of your suggestions! All were useful - some were really cool...
