Yeah, because calling people you don't agree with "a bunch of school kids" always helps on internet forums.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Reminds me of, and I was referring to everyone.

There's: Whhhhhhhhhy haven't NCWest spoken to us?
There's: Whhhhhhhhhy did this have to happen?
There's: Whhhhhhhhhy won't you shut up?

If everyone was to calm down, be a little patient - wait for i14 to be as ready as it can be, and such giving the dev team and related teams a bit of a break - we'd get some answers.

i14 is the most important thing for NCsoft now; and if we all want the game to continue - we should probably try and respect that.
  2. This thread just reminds me of a bunch of school kids.

    "But whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhy?"
  3. Very, very sorry to lose you GR - but here's hoping you can join the ranks of regular players, and get some PvPing done. I imagine you'll need an unrecognisable name, though, or you may very well get ganked to kingdom come.

That said, Avatea is a perfect "replacement"; as one of the first NCsofters I ever met, it feels like we've come full circle. And perhaps some of the doom mongerers will be too busy drooling over our commanding lady, to doom monger anymore.

And btw pretty sure that the UK media started serious talk of recession as being a recession and not a credit crunch way before the 2nd quarter of shrink was announced.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    A-nope.

They point-blank refused to call it a recession until halfway through Q3 last year, because they were adamant it would "scare the general populace". It was only when it was unavoidable that they were quoted as saying if this trend continues, we will be seeing 2009 in recession (the worst since the 70s).

I'm in the "recession, what recession, it's mostly made up by the media" bandwagon myself, as I have yet to be affected in any way shape or form.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm very affected by it, it exists. What has happened is that what was an economic downturn has been (to some extent) made worse by fear mongering by alot of media unneccesarily affecting individuals' (and to a lesser extent, companies') spending habits.

But we are definately in a recession, whether you have experienced it or not (not sure why you would as a teacher).

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree completly. the recession exist, but has been made much worse by all the media DOOOOOM saying.

But from my personal position, I (and my circle) are unaffected.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think perhaps you're confusing the "credit crunch" which was media hype, with an actual recession. A recession = two consecutive quarters of reduced economic productivity/activity. That is what we are currently in; if you're in any doubt, a quick internet search (hell, a quick Google search) will explain all.

Failing that, take a peak at your interest rates. Or the VAT changes. Or Woolworths.

Everyone is affected, some are just lucky enough to not have been affected too harshly.

    Now What?

I'm sort of tempted to create a bunch of Marvel/DC rip-offs, just to see if I can get away with it.
  8. [ QUOTE ]

As PRAF says above, I'd be inclined to think that the reccession may drive some people to MMOs as it's a cheap form of entertainment.

Most people won't cut their net access and a whole month of play in a MMO costs substantially less than going to a sports/music event, probably less than the cheapest you could manage to go and see a single film at the cinema. Heck - a month costs less than some paperback books do these days - and definitely less than a hardback.

    [/ QUOTE ]

It's a "cheap" form of entertainment that charges you monthly. I'd understand sales figures increasing, but not subscription (due to one free month).

See, people are generally cutting down on the cheaper things to afford the luxuries. There are also those who no longer have any income, and cannot afford to have £8.99 a month going out, and those who have subscriptions to x number of MMOs and need to cull that to survive.

I'm definitely on the "recession will be over by 2010" optimism bandwagon, but it just seems more sensible to me to cancel a constant payment, than one off payments.
  9. ...South Korea had a very average Olympic year last year. They often get around 30 medals total.

North Korea have never been any good.

Also, the hell are you talking about Khorak? Were you watching a different Olympics to me, North and South Korea were seperate entries last year.
  10. *sigh*

GR - good luck to you. You were/are a fantastic community co-ordinator, you certainly filled B's, Kerensky's, Rockjaw's etc. etc. shoes and then some. Speaking for myself (and anyone who wants to agree with me), us EU lot have been extremely lucky to have some of the best community support/co-ordinators/GMs etc.

I'm going to keep my fingers crossed indefinitely, and hope to god you're not on a temporary work visa.

To be honest, depending on what happens to us EU folk, I may take this as my cue to move to <another MMO> for good. Not out of spite, or fear of change, but to preserve memories.

GR's down the pub, and it's 8am at NCWest HQ. Give it time.

    Bit of an update :

    [ QUOTE ]
NCsoft has made 55 staff redundant at the Brighton office of NC West, as four internal departments are axed, following a similar cull last year when in-house development was halted.

GamesIndustry.biz understands that 30 staff will remain at the Brighton office to cover off sales, marketing and customer support functions, while localisation, creative services, IT QA and community roles have been cut.

Cut... how? Cut severed or cut culled?
  14. [ QUOTE ]
    Step up NCWest.

See nows about the time you post both here and in the Valentines Event thread (discussing the lay-offs) to reassure as all. The silence is not really all that comforting.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Jesus Christ, give them some time. We've only just heard about it - from the little information we've gathered, NCsoftEU have only just heard about it, and it is currently 8am in the NC offices.

Elitism is fine and dandy, until you mix it with stubbornness.

Always right vs. actually right = bad times.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And which one would you say qualify as the elitist group?

    [/ QUOTE ]

"Actually right" would be the "elitist" group in this example.

He's obviously been watching Mean Girls.

We're (mostly) not American, GR. Quit with the US terminology.

    [ QUOTE ]

I'm not really meaning to rant, I just genuinely want new people to feel welcome and not have to worry about advanced game systems simply because someone with attitude thinks they should be using them.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Thing is. CoX is THE most new player friendly MMO on the market, without exception. Try being a newbie in EVE or WoW and see what kind of experience you get.

Personally, I think you're seriously overstating this perceived "problem" of elitism.

    [/ QUOTE ]

But that just isn't true. EQI and EQII, GW, TR (RIP), and Warhammer (to an extent) have perfectly friendly, welcoming communities.

WoW and EVE have bad reputations, sure, but they hardly run new players away (due to the community, gameplay can).

CoH/V may have a friendly reputation, but we're not the only one; and when we do have flamewars, by god we go the whole hog.

Just a QR before I have mine:

    Hear hear.

I've been her 4yrs and apart from build discussion, there is nothing on these boards I want to get into.

I tell new plays we meet in game or get to join to sign up to our coalition forums and stear well clear of these ones.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Given that the OP was taking about nothing like that (he was raising issues about the behaviour in-game), it seems the one other thing you want to get into it gratuitous attacks.

    Enjoy the lunch.

    From the OP:
    [ QUOTE ]
It's not just in game either, on these very forums there are people that really believe they can dismiss any topic and tell people to get lost just because They have been here longer and therefore have discussed the topic before. We wonder why we get few new people and i for one believe it's for this exact reason.

#More competitions; CoX-themed cook-off (cook at home and bring in)/best cosplay outfit etc),
last year I think the Friday night was the cosplay disco night, maybe send an invite to Massively or some MMO-site to cover the whole event?, at least two of the reviewers are long-time subscribers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I really don't think that's the best idea. Let's face it - a bunch of geeks in costumes probably isn't the best way to entice new players to the game...
  24. Sure, I'll probably be there. Just, no more TF stuff please? Playing waitress to Extremus, Xanthus, Empath and Blast Burn wasn't the most fun I've ever had.
