True, true. However, I do find I prefer EQ2's variant. ... I don't particularly like mentoring in Co* because I lose access to abilities and I don't believe I gain any exp. I don't mind doing it for a specific mission or something, but certainly not the days-on-end fun that I've had mentoring guildmates in EQ2.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I agree with this. I recall a post of some one (a dev) in EQ2 saying they leveled all the way to the level cap at the time (I believe 50) under Mentor mode, but that it was horribly painful, something no one would even attempt if they were sane (and i dare bet it was handled as a simulator of sorts.)

Another thing i like of EQ2's mentoring system over CoX is that one player can have multiple mentors, so if you have a group of friends that all play different times and therefore all end up leveling at different speeds, they still can all just mentor the lowest level and play at his level. In CoX, if you want an 8 man team, you are forced for 4 of them to be within the right level range while the rest sk/exemplar. With EQ2's system, you can have everyone at different level ranges.

Yeah, I heard about the powers designer opening. I don't meet two of the requirements:

Refrain from calling other forum posters "blithering idiots."

Also, Mountain View is too long of a work commute from Honolulu. And I hear Castle has a clause in his contract that allows him to call any powers designer hired after him "Igor."

I don't think he was a bad designer, but he was a bit stubborn in some balance issues. Lets see what a year under the eye of the now all powerful Castle, who is only hindered by the super cool Positron, will bring

Hopefully NCsoft will have the good sense not to meddle too much with CoX's proven success. Hopefully. Their recent negotiations with Sony Computer Entertainment though scares the crap out of me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hrm. Maybe this is going to turn out like MxO Of course what made MxO great was the live event team. That was cut when they moved to Sony.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yet, everything I hear, is that MxO actually became a fun game after SoE started "messing with it." What was fun only due to regular gimmick events, became an everyday fun thing.

    [ QUOTE ]
It doesnt look like anything like that is being cut here. (Guess I'll leave my Suggestion to add a similar system to CoH off the suggestion board :/)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, the only possible thing to cut would be the free Issues releases, but looking at how they handle Lineage II, where they do a very similar model, I highly doubt that will change. If anything, they may put even more emphasis on these releases.

    [ QUOTE ]
Of course they also completely redid the combat system when they went to Sony. Same as they did with SWG. I don't know what it is with Sony liking to change core systems.

    [/ QUOTE ]

From what I hear, the combat changes to MxO did make it a better game, many were changes that had been demanded by the community for a long time, but the dev team was too busy with live events to bother with them.

As for the SWG NGE, it was actually Lucas that demanded the change, they wanted the game to become more "twitch based", suits that simply saw KOTOR success and wanted something that looked more dynamic, regardless the player opinions. I hear many things on how Smedley (not sure if I am writing it correctly) warned Lucas that the change was not a good idea, and it turned that even he underestimated the drastic reaction where they lost almost half the player base.

But that another company, this one is this one. In the topic of City of Heroes:

This is in many ways good. All the fears many had that Cryptic would stop supporting the old game in favor of the new can now be put at rest because Cryptic won’t be the one handling the game any longer. If anything, it the team will be more competitive against Marvel Universe Online and DC Online since they truly will require to keep their current base and compete with two big names to gain new players. I foresee highly demanded systems finally being implemented in the future, systems like Power Customization.

The one thing that does worry me a bit, is that perhaps Cryptic knows their MUO game is so killer, they knew CoX would not be able to compete and figured it may be a better idea to sell the healthy cow than have it die in their hands.

Sorry did not have time to read through the whole post.

Does anyone know if animation will change with blade weapons depending on the weapon you choose?

Meaning lets say I have a ninja blade stalker and I choose the red cap dagger as my blade will I wield it with 2-hands using ninja blade animation? Or will it switch to broadsword animation so I can wield it with 1 hand?

    [/ QUOTE ]

No. Animations and FX will not change. The redcap dagger is not available for Katana users (handle's not long enough to wield as a katana)

    [/ QUOTE ]

There goes my idea of making a very petite looking girl that has to dual wield her pocket knife because she is not strong enough, yet manages to inflict horrid damage by picking Katana.

It has a strong slow that will keep the enemy in the patch, though.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Well, I know I wouldn't consider a 0.45 second slow effect to be 'strong.' In fact, I didn't even know it existed until you mentioned it and I went to check.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Strenght and duration are independent. Besides, it lasts .45 seconds, but it refreshes (and auto hits) every .2 seconds. It is -90% run speed.

Again, though, that is irrelevant unless you have a power like burn to actually make the enemy attempt to move around in futility.
  10. [ QUOTE ]
If I recall, Ice Patch only affects 5 targets, and it doesn't rotate through all of them like it used to. It picks 5 and sticks with only those 5 until something dies or walks off of it. (Someone who has actually used IP, correct me if I'm wrong.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ice patch pulses 5 times per second.

Every time it pulses it can hit up to 5 enemies.

It has an accuracy of 1, meaning 75% against even level enemies.

    It is auto hit.

It only has an 8% chance of going off.

This means that tops, it will only hit the closest 5 enemies, but also means that it will hit enemies regardless how much defense they have or how high level they are, however it will only do so 8% of the time. This means it hits about once every 10 to 11 ticks, meaning it only may hit every 2 seconds, and then again, only the closest 5.

I think the only pro this power has, is that the 8% is steady depsite the enemy defense or level relative to yours. It has a strong slow that will keep the enemy in the patch, though.

Ironically, looking at it in City of Data, it seems to be the only placed pet attack that does not make enemies run away. What does this means? That only (ironically) burn users can get the most of the power, because burn not only adds damage, but also forces enemies to flee. With the speed debuff, they will be running at one inch per hour and not attacking, not only this, but they will randomly run (AI thing) in different pathing/speeds causing the patch to actually hit more than just 5 targets due to their position changes relative to yours (movement will change who the 5 closest are)

I ponder how ice melee ranks if all fire/ tankers and all the ones that take fire epic were taken out of the datamine results.

Well that statement 2 years ago sure went down the drain.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Dull Pain has never been nerfed. The last change to it was a buff - its +health was made 50% enhanceable. Very approximately, that buff was comparable to giving the two scrappers with dull pain (invuln and regen) brute health.

Just via ED, and at the same time it was nerfed in one way it was buffed in another.

I finished it, though, but that was the last time I eat one. I bet I would had loved it two years back, when I used to every single day lunch and dine a backon double cheeseburger from BK, with large fries, large vanilla shake and a large Diet Coke (like the falvor way better than regular coke.) Sometimes I would also go for a dessert! No ponder I got to 240lbs...

I used to do that with Checkers fries when there were some in Puerto Rico. Now that I'm in TN, I cant find any near me.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Depending on where you are in TN, you have it, you just don't know it... it's under a different name.

Long before Checkers, there was a little place called "Central Park" - same premise, a tiny drive-through kiosk where you bought burgers and fries. They did it all first: spiced/battered fries, apple nuggets, etc.

I know there are some in both Chattanooga and Knoxville, don't know about elsewhere.

    They are superior to Checkers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I just checked the obvious: their website. Seems there is one in downtown Nashville, 13 minutes away from where I live in. Unfortunately, right now, I'm in a very strict "loose all that bunch of fat" diet (and exercise, never diet without exercise kids, it isn't healthy to just starve, control diet and burn what you eat!) that I don't plan to break (nor do i plan to work out even more to burn that excess!)

Player A1 puts up a Level 12 TO for 5,000,000 inf.

Player B1 puts up the same Level 12 TO for 1,000 inf.

Player A2 (trying to transfer funds) offers to buy that level 12 TO for 5,000,000 inf.

Since player B1 wants less, and is obviously trying to move his items faster, his "for sale" is processed first, so he ends up with 5,000,000 inf (minus fees).

Properly done ambushes can be very dangerous. And a proper -travel penalty WILL suppress ALL travel enahncement, even the speed in swift.

Also its not the same to have ambushes that spawn on top of you and are locked down on you, than to have shivans jump for a boo, as these show up before they actually aggro and will forget you if you run away. An ambush will follow you until you stop, and if you didn't deal with 3 ambushes, once you get to the next metheorite they will catch up.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm going to disagree with this suggestion (suppress travel, add ambushes).

You're trying to inconvenience the guy who solos AVs with Shivans. If the process of getting Shivans is made hard enough to actually inconvenience that level of player, getting Shivans will be very very hard for average players.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm not trying to inconvenience the guy who solos AVs with shivans. The point is to make the shivan acquisition an actual risk, they are extremely powerful and as they stand now they hold no risk at all to aquire.

You either make their acquisition HARD, or you nerf them to the original level of power (back at the start of CoV they were minions summoned, not Elite Bosses"

    [ QUOTE ]

Wouldn't it be a heck of a lot more straightforward just to reduce the Shivan pet's actual abilities?

    [/ QUOTE ]

As I mentioned, the thing is so easy to get you may as well make it a 30 second minion summon, then even if it took 25 seconds to acquire only role players would want to get it and use them in Pocket D, and then they would complain that a role play only thing forces them into the posibility of combat AND a PvP zone.

People who use shards all the time to solo EBs or Avs (gives Ultimus a sideways look) will find temselves spending more time getting the shards then doing the missions. For the rest of us who use them only now and then anyways it really wont trouble.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No offense but the way this is phrased it makes it sound as a "nerf his experience not mine"
  21. You skipped the part about the ambushes, which would be a true "risk" if you cant run away from them with a travel power (I include sprint as a disabled travel power btw, so you would not be able to outrun the ambushes)
  22. [ QUOTE ]

Disable travel powers while carrying meteorite samples.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Bloody Bay is empty most of the time. So I'll just walk from meteor to meteor instead of superspeeding, big deal. What difference does that make? 30 minutes instead of 15?

I'd prefer the acquisition method be kept as-is, but the power limited to one charge.

Villainside I don't have über power builds, and getting a shivan has been the only way for me to get past EBs solo.

    [/ QUOTE ]

OK, then disable travel powers AND add frequent Shivan ambushes towards the carriers of the meteorites. Also suppress all stealth powers.

I do think no travel powers may make things a bit harder though, there is a HUGE difference between super speeding from one point to the next and walking it, time wise.
  23. I don't think Ultimos is in the boat of people that want "PvP rewards to stick in PvP environments"

However, he does bring something interesting in this thread: aquiring the shivans is too easy due to the low popularity of the zone, the nukes are harder to get though.

I think the aim should be to make acquisition of the nukes harder, and the perfect way that pops in my head is:

Disable travel powers while carrying meteorite samples.

Making the thing one single charge also should be in line, nukes are each a single charge and require you to spend much more time, between the reasons precisely because you have to walk the scientists, almost forcing you out of travel powers.

Does that 30-40 minutes include the time it took you to get Shivan's and/or nukes? If not, how long do you spend in prep time before each of these solo runs?

    [/ QUOTE ]

A Shivan takes me about 10 minutes to get. That also comes with 5 charges or 5 runs. Additionally, I VERY RARELY use nukes. (They do take a lot of time)

The COV respec Trial I beat with just a Shivan. Same with the 25-30 Strikeforce (Renault)

Solution: PREVENT EARNING A MISSION COMPLETE BONUS FOR ANY TRIAL, TASK FORCE MISSION, OR STRIKE FORCE MISSION IF ONLY ONE MEMBER OF THE TEAM IS ONLINE AND ON THE MAP WHEN THE OBJECTIVES ARE MET ...!!

Now, you CAN'T solo them - you HAVE to have two or more people online, and on the relevant map - which sets the spawn sizes accordingly. Problem solved.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I doubt their engine could do that let alone if they could how much coding it would take. There would be easier solutions (such as changing how the pets work)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Even better: Any team can easily tackle an AV in a TF, but with these things you can also easily tackle one solo. Just make sure every TF has 6 AVs throughout it, one per mission, it would add a bit of excitement to the duration of task force as it is, right now the missions before the last one tend to be rather dull and boring.
