Quote:You softie, I'd add an irresistible minute long 1000 mag hold on top of all that and still like the flexibility. The only way I would be ok with build switching without visiting an NPC would be:
- Set Player Health 1
- Set Player Max Regeneration 0, duration 60 seconds.
- Set Player Max Endurance 0, duration 60 seconds.
- Set all powers state to Initial Recharge.
- Wipe all Buffs/Debuff on character.
In other words, we do NOT want players to be able to situationally change power selections. -
You could say the same about Shield Defense. Ninjitsu is very very different from SR, merging the passives and then giving the set utility would not change that. Although i did think "ninjitsu is SR done right" a lot back in the day it was first introduced.
I always seen SR as kind of... well, super speed defense. I can see a SR that had a built in super speed travel power (freeing up a travel pool) and perhaps a "taunt aura" that gave a recharge buff and end discount for every foe in range. -

Quote:If those models still exist and so do the animations you guys should just toss those sharks in as no-xp critters! Or better, make them a bit of a joke by giving 1xp point at level 50!!!Up until it was determined that because sharks couldn't leave the water that players would undoubtedly herd them up, lead them back to the beach, and then slaughter them for risk-free XP.
The idea of a ranged attack was kicked around, but after the friggin' lasers was veto'd that whole project lost a lot of steam. -
Quote:I toss you Lone Wolf as a tank to that awesomeness evidence, protecting his child all throughout the story, and definitively not killing himself for his masterI wouldn't get into semantics over 'bushido' considering that in pretty much all fiction that uses the word 'samurai', historical accuracy takes a distant back seat to awesomeness.

Quote:Funny, I think I missread your post (or did I corsseye and read antoher one??) and thougt you said to have Granite grant the user a "Granite Look Costme Temp Power" that would only work if you are inside granite. At that point it's up to the user to activate an end-free, stat-free power that just changes your costume to the old granite, and this power, requiring granite mode to run, would auto detogle if Granite detogles.A SOLUTION!!!
I have a solution, and I'm half surprised no one has suggested it before me. A see a lot of replies saying that they are FOR change, but will miss the GIGANTIC feel. Well... why not just do this:
/macro GRNT "powexec_name Granite Armor$$CC 01"
This would toggle on granite armor and you could SET the costume you wanted to be when you turned the armor on. You could just USE the new options in the science pack to make a HUGE style of your character, OR make him stone, WHICH IS A PART OF OUR COSTUME system. This cause is not lost, a simple macro and or BIND fix would still enable you to be a giant human ROCK, bigger then most, just MAX height, MAX legs, and even use the HUGE body type if you want! Of course the CC 01 would need to be changed based on the costume slot said Granite type outfit would be in.
And as a side note, I'm all for granite armor being changed. I got my macro skills at the ready! -

Hmmm, tough one. I don't play granite often enough, but I got to admit I had a bit of a thematic reason for it where I'd do it once in a while out of combat.
I'd say the pros outweight the bads but If I had such a reason I can see the whole Virtue Server Universe crying in despair...
Curious: would this new "granite" pieces make granite still look bigger than the normal costume? I guess with the sience pack I still can make a second costume I could make huge male and activate that costume every time I turned into Granite. -
Quote:Seeing as how I made an electric tank with every single secondary and tested them quite a bit, I'd say I talk mostly based of play testing too.I am not talking about making builds and looking at numbers, I am talking about actual play testing.
Quote:But, I would never, and I mean never skip Power Sink. As an end recovery tool it is hard to beat, as mitigation tool it is excellent as well.
So I think the powers listed are indeed "optional" from a raw survivability standpoint, but they are not junk powers. They are good enough for me to skip on my travel power in order to accommodate other stuff before I dare skip on them.
The only power I actually skip on all my elec tank builds was Power Surge. Every time I found myself needing the extra survivability I would likely also die due to the crash and would had fared as well poping any type of inspiration or even crazier: running away and resting and running back in. Rare occurrence, though. -
Quote:Now I'm confused, your first statement was about them sacrificing their lives to protect some one (their master,) not about being offensive.Again, just a difference of opinion.
Tankers are defensive in nature, I see the samurai as offensive in nature.
Tankers are only highly survivable to be able to do the same, same reason Samurai used bulky armor while Ninjas would barely wear anything that hindered movement. -
Quote:Even if we stick to this definition (I dare bet the amount of samurai that performed oibara just out of free will were in the low end and many of these were "punishments" for allowing the death of their masters) I still cant see how that would not fit a tanker. The dedication of the samurai changed over time, and obviously some were more dedicated than others. There was ritual suicide for a reason. And there was a custom of samurai performing ritual suicide when their masters died. This custom was eventually outlawed. If that isn't dedication........
Tankers fight to protect their team, they will die to protect their team. Real tankers stay in the fight after the team dies even if they know they will die and not win just because they refuse to run, they rather die where their team died.
If that would not fit Bushido I don't know what would. Yea, it's not serving one master, but Samurai and Ronin would sometimes do this not just for their masters but to protect loved ones and innocents (the last one at least in fiction.)
Brutes would make good Ronin concepts too. And we already have samurai armor in the game, making this even more perfect! -
Quote:Here is the thing with Fitness, even if i need no stamina, the regeneration you get from 3 slotted Health makes a significant difference for a set with high resistances because your damage intake is low, meaning your regen means much more (its healing less damage.) It is so subtle you may not notice but it makes a big difference.to get tough, you can just skip 2 powers as you don't need fitness. Really, you don't.
Then there is swift or hurdle. If i have no swift or hurdle with combat jump, I feel I am crawling from one spawn to the next or while manouvering in combat. This lack of movibility can slowly add up to a huge xp per hour hit. Again, subtle thing that adds up a LOT.
Once you take those two (and I'd never skip them) why not take stamina? It also is very steady.
Besides, I have managed to make elec builds that still are so heavily offensive they suck dry their endurance even with stamina 3 slotted, power sink 3 slotted for recharge and energize 3 slotted for recharge/heal. Its usually because of spamming AoE but as a tank and in I16, you will find yourself doing that a lot! -
Quote:Know the feelingMy last day of subscription is the 13th, which is a saturday. I'll try to get herostat, and keep count of the damage that occurs from lvl 50 and lvl 52 groups, and I'll keep my defense at 45%. I'll post the results here if I get the chance. No promises since my wife plans out my weekends
But seriously, on a side note, 45% is the soft cap for any foe (unless they are +6) but having more than 45% is not useless.
If you figh foes that have -def, on a blaster that has no -def resistance, you may get true benefit from extra defense over the cap since as soon as one debuff lands you start loosing defense and more blows land with more -def. Most guns do this, and there are a wide range of energy attacks (specially kheledian type like the high level PPD villains face a lot) that do the same.
Also, if a foe has a to-hit buff, like leadership, then you also get benefit from more def over the cap. These situations may actually be common depending on the type of foe you face. Nemesis lts cast vengance uppon defeat, and this gives all surviving Nemesis such to-hit buffs.
So you may not be crazy, you may have just tried against some foes that have +tohit. Heroside they are not that common, thoug. The biggest case tends to be Nemesis and you can just make sure to kill the lts last. -
Quote:If you don't trust Wiki and also doubt that earth is round because Wiki notes it is, I guess we are forced to come up with some other form of evidence.I used to use paragon wiki as a reference, until something I used from there was incorrect which I used in a discussion. Anything paragonwiki says anymore I don't assume is correct.
Thankfully Arcanaville has a very handy guide to how defense works in these forums!!!
Here is the link of the last version:

For the record, that is the same poster that made the devs aware of the true issues with the ToHit system and how to fix it a long time ago. -

Skippable? Depends on your goals.- Lightning Reflexes
- Power Sink
- Power Surge
Lightning Reflexes recharge is nice, and it adds on Energize's uptime, but you don't NEED it.
Power Sink is also darn nice, but you don't need it to survive.
That being told in my tests I have taken all powers but Power Surge, taken Tough and Combat Jump and cut back a bit on the secondary.
One thing to keep in mind wile building a character is that you can take all your primary, and all your secondary plus two pool powers by level 40 (intentional design at launch to have all powers and a travel power.)
To accomodate swift/health/stamina you just need to skip on 3 powers. If you want tough (and I recomend it) you need to skip on 5 powers.
My elec builds have so far skipped travel powers and gone the Hurdle/Combat Jump route (its as fast as flying and that is good enough for me.) Then skip power surge, thats 2 skiped powers, then skip on taunt for the solo builds, thats 3. And for rare situations there are more attacks than you need on all secondaries, you should be able to easily skip 2 attacks.
And this is all to have a solid build by 40 and to make full room for an epic by 50. If you care not for the epic you can take it all. -
Quote:I know bushido comes from the samurai, it means "the way of the warrior".Sorry, but I disagree with this. Tankers, if played correctly, are not really what you would call a samurai. The code of bushido came from the samurai.
Also, the samurai was not that dedicated, not even in fiction where they portray him so proper and loyal. Samirai betraying their superiors was not any more rare than any other type of warrior. Even fiction make a lot of buz on ronin and even these ronin have their "bushido" even if they betrayed or abandoned their masters.
In the battlefiled, the samirai was just as practical as any other soldier, with the only exception of late adoption of fire-arms, yet they also used them. They started using Canons in the 16th century.
But I'm derailing because still fiction notes things you wrote:
Quote:The samurai followed orders to the letter(or were supposed to anyway), and they "protected" their masters by throwing themselves headlong into all danger, with absolutely no concern of their own lives. They were to have no attachments in life, especially with regards to their own mortality. Not really one I would call the protector of the group. Now, fits perfect for scrappers and brutes.
Brutes were designed with a semi-tank mentality and are played like that often although not always. They also fit perfectly the samurai/bushido.
Scrappers are much more selfish and care to just eliminate their target. The only difference they have from stalkers is they are more heads-on, something some ninja did (and stalkers also do here.)
Quote:Brutes would just LOVE that. -
Ninjitsu for tankers can work with a rename and a few modifications.
The name should be obvious for anyone here: BushidÅ
Problem is that some powers may just not fit. Hide, Smoke Flash, Blinding Powder and Caltrops would have to be replaced, thats almost a full new set.
- I for sure would give the set a power in the lines of High Pain Tolerance,
- A Taunt aura that increased defense slightly by every foe in range (i'd say so that 3 foes can recoup the def lost from no Hide)
- I can see them have a small AoE damage buff making the team stronger but not self.
- And a meditate click that would basically restore some endurance.
Off course, this also would go for Brutes. -
Quote:OH I get it... he got angry at you for you spilling he had customizable Granite 90% done (despite HE telling us it was not possible to do) and then he threatened to spill about some bug and you went crazy hunting through whatever he may had posted to find this one and telling on yourself?Heh, teach me to look at the post date! I thought BAB's posted that after a conversation we had YESTERDAY!

Quote:Guess i'm not alone on this. After using the dev or comm digest, you are locked out of making another search for several minutes (I've seen up to five minutes!!).. I think I'm going to continue using Devian's combo digest until they get something sorted out with that.
Also, i can do as many dev-digest or community-digest requests as I want in a row without any timers but am locked from doing searches for 300 seconds or more. -
Not sure if it's related but just got this message after attempting to do a search right after looking at the dev digest:
Quote:This forum requires that you wait 15 seconds between searches. Please try again in 304 seconds. -
Well, according to City of Data, the base was already 40 so that did not change, only the per-foe changed.
I am not sure what is the target cap for this power, City of Data does not show a target cap for it. May be wrong with City of Data or may actually be a bug.
Assuming a 10 hit target, we talking about a total of 240% damage buff vs the old 290%, you loose up to 50% damage buff and that can add a bit. -

I'm not too interested in AT actual popularity other than due to the possibility of the devs caring. IF the devs actually buffed stalkers and dominators due to their low population, then I'd care to see because it could mean that less popular ATs are next on the buff line.
That being told, the only popularity I truly care about is the demand. I don't care if stalkers, dominators or tanks are popular, I care if they are desirable on teams and if there is a low limit of desirability. Would you consider a 2nd dominator a waste? how about a second stalker? second tank?
That's the kind of popularity i think truly matters in the end, and sometimes I think that's the type of popularity the devs talk about when they say an AT is not popular enough. -
Quote:And given the current level of PvP popularity, its almost granted added hardware will be cost effective.Ok. It's something we've discussed and have a design for. It is *not* something currently on the schedule.
Everyone wants something like this; the trick is figuring out when/how to get it onto the schedule and whether or not the increased infrastructure would be cost effective.
Unless that same infrastructure also supports cross server PvE teaming, at that point the benefits would be huge! -

A bit of a late reaction to this post, and a bit off topic, but I found that AE being in the middle of the RWZ was so... strange... I mean... a warzone... if you going so far into the odd stuff why not just add an AE room to Pocket D?
