Part 2 of the event is tonight (Sunday, Aug 28). Bring your teleporters for the dead body race starting at Ms Liberty.
Afterword, we'll be running MoLambdas from the Midnighter Club. In the unlikely event that someone has a level 50 incarnate without access, speak up in the "Justice Superteamers" channel. I have a character with the "Latin Student" mission ready to go--we'll get you in. -
If you're interested in our next theme team, come meet us tonight and Sunday (Aug 26 and 28) at our pre-Freedom event! See http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=266876 for details.

The events are this Friday and Sunday! Prize distribution has been coordinated! Nothing will stop us from giving inf and merits to people we don't know!

The store in CoH Freedom beta isn't working for Macs right now. A fix is being tested. See:

Quote:Same for me. I have been, in the past, a systems administrator for Windows machines, and in the present, as a software developer, I've made some of my applications compatible with Windows. I didn't enjoy any of it. There's no way I am touching that OS again unless you are paying me to do so.Maybe for some of you, but this is NOT an option. I don't have Windows, or do I have any intention on getting Windows.
This is a great point--the economic angle. It may not be entirely relevant, but there is also good data that iPhone users buy a lot more apps etc. than their Android counterparts. -
I moved the potted plant to the other side of my balcony, but there was never a message in my newspaper.
Actually, my understanding is that it's don't ask, don't tell. Don't ask to get in, and don't tell if you do. Although I did hint pretty heavily in the last couple support tickets I opened that I'd love to help test.
Who knows, maybe the wildly optimistic scenario is this: sometimes when Paragon is quiet and cagey, they're Working On Something. Maybe a new or radically improved Mac client is in Double-Secret Internal Probationary Alpha Testing. I Want To Believe.
To be honest, my guess is the issue is neither Dooom! nor Rainbow unicorns!, but some boring, tedious, and messy, but not sinister, real-world issue. And my bet is the resolution will be similarly unremarkable: access to the Paragon Market issue in a vaguely reasonable time frame but no other change to the client.
I now have a sudden urge to create a character named "reloadgfx". Or we should have a Mac SG with that name. (Apologies for the rambling; I'm on vacation.) -
If only it were as easy as volunteering for the beta...I'm sure we'd have no shortage of testers.
And the things is, there's somebody over there who is knowledgable and is paying some attention. When I had two recent problems (with the Launcher and that issue with the Mac nVidia cards), support got back to me in a timely fashion with detailed, accurate, and ultimately effective instructions on how to get things working again. If I were the Mac-knowledgable person at Paragon, I'd sure as heck want whole bunches of testers looking at the stuff I'm writing and/or supporting. One suspects that the Mac platform must have minuscule political support within the organization. -
I saw the resolution-change issue, too. Just managed to catch the edge of the "quit to desktop" button after I reset the resolution.
The memory leak thing is getting to be more of an issue. I reloadgfx all the time, but on new maps (eg, Praetoria) it's needed far more frequently. Now Atlas Park isn't even safe! -
I was able to start a new character in Praetoria. But things are definitely wonky. I couldn't access Controllers or MMs. I logged back to the character screen and now it looks like all my slots are locked (even though I deleted one character to hypothetically have one free of two, if that's all I get).

Actually, the launcher supports (or claims to support) the beta server now. At least, it shows up in the game list, downloads, and updates itself. On the other hand, it happened fairly recently, so until tomorrow, I can't tell you if all those gigabytes I've downloaded actually connect me to anything.
-
Actually, there's so much going on in I21 that almost any concept we came up with would be improved by waiting. So we just picked one anyway.
-
I'm going to go for a dark miasma/sonic defender this time around.

Quote:/macro rld reloadgfx to put a button in your tray. I play in windowed mode with the Activity Monitor visible. When the memory approaches 2G, hit the rld macro.3) Type in /reloadgfx every time you blink your eyes. This helps. Ridiculous but true.
Praetoria is memory hungry. iTrials are worse. You can run low-level missions in Atlas Park all day. You get to learn where the graphics hot spots are. -
Doesn't the glow show up at one or two of the higher settings below Ultra?
In any case, one thing I did when I had a slower computer was crank the graphic settings up while in the costume editor and then down again to play. That way I'd see what other people would be seeing. -
It's in the launcher itself. Start the launcher, then look at the list of games. Whether they are installed or uninstalled, there is a triangle next to each name. Click the triangle and more options open up. Double-click "Properties" there. It's not the usual place you'd put something called "Properties". I think I'd call it "Settings", but that's just me.
And don't forget the "no spaces in folder names" issue! That'll mess you up real good. ("City of Heroes.app" is OK, but every enclosing folder can't have spaces in the names, ugh.) -
Quote:It has. The publicity has been less than loud. See somewhere in the middle of this thread:I heard something about a new Launcher that PC people have to use but that isn't implemented on the Mac yet. Is this what you mean? Or has it been implemented?

There's a known bug if your CoH install path contains embedded spaces; rename it so it doesn't! -
For the record, here's the resolution of my problem. I've gotten the Launcher to update my CoH with the help of Support. In my case, I was definitely hit by the "spaces in file path" bug. I may have been hit by an additional permissions error (because I work in a non-admin account). However, it is just as likely that I caused the permissions problem myself while messing around trying to fix the first problem. After I fixed permissions and moved to a directory without an embedded space in the name, everything worked fine.

I'm on 10.6.7. It's PatchManifest.xml that I'm missing (plus its enclosing folder).
I redownloaded the launcher, did as you suggested...still seeing a similar error. The same file is missing, although the enclosing folder name now has the word "repair" in it. I did this with a copy of CoH in an "NCSoft" folder rather than one with embedded spaces.
The log without the trailing numeral is:
Code:The log with the trailing numeral ends with this (my username obscured):Loading Game Items... Loading Main Games.xml Adding Entry to NCsoft List: News. My ticket has been escalated, but (understandably) no action yet. -
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it didn't help--I'm seeing the same errors. Repair gives the same error as update.
I've opened a ticket. I have the uneasy feeling they are going to make me download the whole mess again. -
The error occurs after the download, apparently at the start of the patch "apply" phase. The Console log is a mess, since after the error, the Launcher then has another error closing up. The last line after the first error is suggestive, though:
4/26/11 6:39:51 PM [0x0-0x53053].com.transgaming.cityofheroes sh: /Games/City: No such file or directory
Looks to my eyes as if a shell script didn't properly quote the path names. (My app is in /Games/City of Heroes instead of /Applications.) That being said, the error that is reported via the dialog box re: not being able to find a file is accurate; the file is indeed missing. It's an interesting location, something new since the Launcher took over:
City of Heroes.app/~PS/(long filename)/PatchManifext.xml
That ~PS directory is definitely new and not Mac-standard (I've never seen anything in the .app bundle other than "Contents"). In my case, it's an empty directory.
I will report it when I have the energy...not happy to be reporting (or almost reporting) my third problem since i20. -
Has anyone using the new NCSoft Launcher successfully updated to today's patch? I'm getting an error that a "PatchManifest.xml" file can't be loaded.
I'm going to try to run down the error a little more before opening a ticket. Fortunately the workaround for the i20 ATI problem still works--my Test client is still untouched by the Launcher, and it points to Live just fine. -
This may apply to a very small number of people, but I hit a hiccup while trying to run the NCSoft Launcher for Mac. The installation went fine (the launcher automatically found my CoH, which is not in /Applications), but I hit immediate errors on launch.
I looked over the error and figured out the issue. At one point, I tried to install Mids in a Crossover Games bottle. Although I delete Crossover Games (I was using a trial just to see if it'd work), I never deleted the bottle. The error made it clear that the launcher was trying to use some files inside the bottle! I deleted the bottle, and the launcher worked normally (wisp aura awarded, too, for people who are worried about that).
I'm not sure exactly what the root problem was, or how unique my configuration is, but I figured it was worth documenting the error. -
