I just tried it and didn't have a problem.
Did it recently stop working, or has it never worked for you? -
I noticed the fixed thumbnails a few weeks ago (ironically, just a day after complaining jealously to the builder in one SG I'm in). It's not 10.6, I've had that for ages--must have been one of the game updates. I don't do enough editing to comment on the stability, though.

Thanks to EF for running our SG event!
I think the hide and seek has good potential for a public event. We had what, ten people seeking, and each time it took about 5 minutes to find EF. I'd choose a more varied zone, though--something like Faultline, or (my redside favorite) St. Martial. You'd have more interesting clues available that way.
For Sunday, how about an xp push? If we can get everyone up to 35, you know what happens then. How about more patron arcs and/or blueside AV arcs? -
Back when we were voting on what would become the guns group, I was utterly convinced that "kinetics" was going to win. B Movie Janet was all set to become a sonic/kin, because movies are just sound and motion, right? I had a handful of good B-movie costumes ready, only a couple of which translated successfully to guns (pirate wench and film noir detective). So now you've given Janet an excuse to pull a season-appropriate B-movie costume out of the closet tonight, for which she is grateful.
And I'm really tempted to make another version of her in the future, if the next team heads the way I hope it does. Because movies are a kind of time-traveling illusion, aren't they? -
(1) Any theme for the CC?
(b) Open to whole SG or just darkness toons? (I don't like non-thematic costumes on my characters.) -
Quote:Not just gaming, anything! I want to love the Magic Mouse and its touch-sensitive surface, but I have the same problem you do. My hand cramps us really fast using one of those.I have an iMac that came with the Magic Mouse, but the MM's shape isn't good for gaming. I can game on it fine, but my hand starts hurting after some time since you don't grasp the mouse due to its shape.
I use an old wired Mighty Mouse. In one-button mode (right-click disabled), too, if you can believe that. -
Hello, everyone!
Our thread has been retrieved from limbo and placed here in the Justice forum, many thanks to Avatea.
For those of you who've run with us but not recently, we're still going strong. Most of the folks showing up these days are scattered through the 30s and low 40s now. Anyone is still welcome to join us, though. Two hints: first, we run amok all over red and blueside now. If you're a rogue or vigilante, you'll be able to join us whatever we do. Second, if you're lower level, join us early in the evening so we can plan something you can join.
Otherwise, it's a fine time to join us. With Patron arcs redside, AV arcs blueside, and tips both ways, we're doing a lot of regular missions. I don't think there's been an SG evening yet where we had less than two teams going. -
I'm running a sonic blast defender with a Tron-esque costume. I've colored each attack with a different bright solid color--red, green, yellow, blue, etc. The overall effect, especially on dark maps, is old-school vector graphics.
(The costume is black with similarly colored Perplex pattern.) -
How about the redside "Who Will Die?" part 2 for an appetizer, Kal for an entree, and patron arcs or villain tips for dessert?
If anyone isn't vigilante yet, speak up here or in the channel, we'll give you a hand. -
It'd be a big help if everyone calls out their intended pace--speed, kill most, kill all--when you are recruiting. Fewer surprises == less culture shock.

Yes, absolutely. Access is via Underground Imperial City. I believe the Doorman contact will pop up at level 20.
We recently started our Justice superteam in Praetoria, and many of us didn't go through the rift until after we'd done First Ward. -
Quote:That sounds like the machine I have (bought in fall 2010). For me, the crashes are due to memory. I had enough, but CoH would crash whenever it used more than around 2.2 Gb of memory (not the magic 2G limit, some other number that varies between 2.1 Gb and I think I've seen as high as nearly 2.5 Gb). Note that more memory in the iMac isn't going to help with this problem.I am running on a mac all in one 27 inch, 4 gig of ram, 1 TB drive ( not that it matters much ) OS 10.6.
The solution I use: run in windowed mode. Keep "Activity Viewer" (found in Applications > Utilities) open where you can see CoH's memory use while you're playing. Whenever memory use is around 2 G, in game, use the "/reloadgfx" or "/unloadgfx" command (not sure the difference, both seem to work). The memory use will drop. Unfortunately, it won't drop all the way down; you'll slowly accumulate unfreeable memory.
For old zones (e.g., blueside except for new Atlas, most instance maps), I can run for hours without an issue. For Praetoria or any new maps, I may have to reload every ten minutes. Flying over a new zone eats up memory fast (lost of graphics being loaded). In iTrials, it's the worst. I will end up restarting after two, maybe three trials if I'm lucky.
Last tips: For convenience, I created a macro to put a button in my tray: /macro rld reloadgfx. Also, if I need to reloadgfx, if possible, I wait until I enter an instance. Usually the memory drop is greater there, presumably due to less intensive graphics. -
I'd vote dark tech or a mix. The other two SGs sharing the base are more tech-oriented (radiation and guns).
-
As an insider looking out...or around...or maybe up, it's not that bad. We have some vicious hiccups now and then. There are some longstanding issues, often with workarounds. And the underlying tech is creaky. On the other hand, although the organizational support sometimes seems non-existant, they have so far always come through to maintain the current (flawed) state of affairs.
Overall, if you just want to play the game and don't require 60fps at max settings, my experience is that it works fine in general.
As a side note, my old laptop (which is now my parents' new laptop) still runs CoH fine on low-to-middling settings. And it's a 5+ years old Macbook Pro. -
I can go either way. I know Carnage & Cutlery (blades team) has a modest base. The other redside group is traps, right? How is its base?
Overall I have a slight preference for blueside. Either way, I would like to have us decide Sunday. I need to unlock my next costume slot. -
I believe it's currently 15, actually. I'm in 13 or 14 right now.

Definitely join the "Justice Superteamers" global channel. That's the only way to keep up. We'll be getting into a supergroup soon, opening up supergroup and coalition chat, but because we have accumulated both blueside and redside SGs over time, they can't all be in coalition. So the only way all our superteam alts can communicate is via the global channel.
Speaking of SGs, my guess is that we'll want to decide (possibly tonight) if we're initially going blue or red, and if we want a new SG or to reuse an old one. Historically, going hero then vigilante has been preferred. -
All the conversation is in the other threads, but I'll summarize my experience here:
Sometime after 5pm EDT, they seem to have gotten the right downloads in place, and now I've updated the launcher and all three clients successfully. Test is still closed, but I can get on both live and beta. I can access the store in beta without crashing, with readable fonts (I'm on 10.6). I can relaunch live and beta without trashing preferences. I haven't spent appreciable time in the store yet to test stability.
I realize that not all problems are solved, and the old problems haven't been touched, but as far as the I21 headstart goes, it's 1980 and Lake Placid all over again. I'm a software professional, and given what we knew, I didn't see any way they could pull this off in time. Thanks to those who worked the weekend, and I know there must have been a bunch of you. -
They're sneaky, they fixed it server-side. The dmg download now contains v1.0.6998.
So all you folks, give it another try. Sometime after about 5pm EDT they fixed it. To some degree, anyway. -
I'm seeing that behavior, but for live; see my other thread:
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=271322 -
My Launcher updated itself today, apparently successfully. Beta and Test show no updates, but the live client does. Great, a head start on the updates, right? Well, it downloads a CoH_0.0.0.0_Installer.dmg file, stutters, then downloads it again, stutters, ad infinitum. I manage to interrupt it and mount it by hand, and the download appears to be v1.0.4296 (which is the version I currently have).
So at this point, the live client claims to need no repairs, shows an update, but won't actually update, instead downloading the current version over and over.
Anyone else seeing updates, and having any luck? -
Thanks for the instructions. I'm going to have to write a script so I don't have to reset my prefs by hand.
I can't wait to see what the "through official channels" instructions are. Assuming they aren't relying on the forums to spread the word (and they shouldn't, as many people don't read the forums), and the game can't update itself, how are they going to tell people what to do on Sept. 13? Are they going to rely on every non-forum Mac user contacting support? That can't be their plan, can it? -
This is a good group to game with. Everybody's mellow, and we bend over backward to make sure everyone's included (sometimes so much so that we fall over and have to start over again). Seriously, every time we start a TF with less than a full team, we take bets on who's going to show up late and how many times we'll restart to get everyone playing.
I started with this group when I had been playing CoH for about 4 or 5 months. I hadn't done any TFs or much "high" level content (20+), and I didn't know lots of gameplay details. They were very helpful, particularly in endlessly teleporting me back to the action whenever I got lost (which was frequently). -
Can anyone comment on how big a download this repair is? I started it up, and it seemed to be redownloading the entire Beta client again.

Hey, that's me!
Duplication is A-OK. Last team, I ran a Pistols/Sonic corruptor, and EF ran a Sonic/Pistols defender. I'm pretty sure we had two Pistols/Kin, too. Especially with Dark & Sonic, the stacking debuffs ought to be very advantageous.
Of course, the costumes better look different. That's the most important part of the game, anyway.
