  2. I like my Nova just the way it is. I don't use it all the time, and don't need to, but it is fun to just once in a while lay waste to a mass of Carnies and steal all those kills from the scrappers. I've already got more attacks than I can reliably use on a regular basis, so adding in another isn't really going to blow my metaphorical skirt up.

As to the 'shortcomings' of Electric, I think they should be be looked at independently of the set's nuke. Changing the nuke is still going to leave the set unchanged for the most part, and I don't really think the nuke is the issue with the set.
  3. I went for Recharge, hitting about 55% from set bonuses before hitting 50. I loved it. If I want to be tough, I'll play a tank. If I want to floor a mob with Consume and a couple ticks from Blazing Aura, I'll play my scrapper.

If you're looking for a super-tough scrapper, keep looking. But a high recharge /Fire is an excellent choice for melting faces.
  4. My main Starflier is Energy/Energy, so I'll have to vote that as well. Great single target damage for punching holes in whatever happens to get in your way. I picked up hover and aid self, and she's been kicking a lot of *** since. +2/+2 seems to work well for solo difficulty.

One really nice thing is the tier one power from Energy Manipulation. Mezzed? Knock him across the room when he comes to finish you up close.

And Nova is definitely a crowd pleaser when it wipes out a great big mob and blows 'em all over hell's creation.
  5. I really don't have issues with any of the particular AT's. That said, I've almost no experience with Kheldians, VEATS, Dominators, or Corruptors. I like them, I just haven't been able to get into a character I liked enough.

I do find myself avoiding Brutes on occasion, simply because I dislike Fury and have two other AT's that provide the powerset combinations (Tankers/Scrappers, my favourite AT's). I like my one Brute, but don't play her that often.
  6. I take it on occasion. Now that I have the 54 month vet badge I pretty much take it on every character, in addition to the Sands of Mu. Slashy and Smashy wedded together in a beautiful combo of death.
  7. Hero: Spider-man, with Wolverine and Captain America close behind.

Villain: Joker, hands down. The guy is great in all his different incarnations.

Black Adam has been growing on me for some time, both as hero and villain. After my wife read through 52 she turns to me and says, "I think you'd be like him if you had superpowers." Uh, thanks?
  8. I like Ninjitsu. It's got a little bit of everything and fits pretty perfectly what I think a 'stalker' should be. Some defenses, some soft controls, some misdirection.

Edit: The addition of the controls is something that appeals to me. While the straight mitigation sets like WP or SR might be effective, they're kind of boring. The Stalker, in my opinion, really shouldn't be a straightforward fighter as we have (at least) two of those already in Scrappers and Brutes. While in general I prefer resistance to defense, for a new Stalker secondary I would definitely go defense based simply because of how much it compliments certain aspects of the AT's playstyle.

As to what a new set might look like, I can't really say.

That's better. There's a reason I slot an obscene amount of KB into Crane Kick.
  10. The news piece about the curious pandas comes to an end with the anchors chuckling over Ling Ling's antics.

"We now go to our own Gloria Vazquez with a story that just unfolded in the streets of Brickstown."

The camera changes over from the handsome anchorman to an attractive woman in a bright red suit.

"Thanks Phil. I'm here in Brickstown where Special Detective Magnus Hiller of the PPD, better known as the hero Magmauler, just finished putting a stop to a battle raging in the streets."

The television feed switches over to some shaky home video showing a tourist posing in front of one of the Brickhouse, famous Brickstown steak house. The camera turns suddenly as weapons fire can be heard from behind the cameraman.

"This eyewitness video was shot by Marion and Eugene Trask of Jacksonville, Florida, who were kind enough to lend Paragon 5 the footage."

The video shakes badly as the cameraman ducks behind a car, losing focus on the fight. Now safely hidden, he gets the fight back into focus. The two groups are exchanging fire with energy weapons, as screaming continues in the background with civilians still running for cover.

"The identity of both groups remains a mystery at this point, although initial reports lead investigators to believe they may be rival factions of a high-tech paramilitary group."

As the fighting continues, you hear someone shout "Look up there!" The camera tilts up and to the left to show a blurry shape sailing through the air toward the battle. It picks up speed as it arcs down towards the ground. The impact is deafening, kicking up a huge cloud of dust and sending the cameraman once more for cover.

"This is, of course, the arrival of Magmauler on scene."

As the dust settles the camera once again focuses on the battleground, now with a nine foot tall Troll in the middle of it. Two of the combatants lay near by, knocked unconscious from his landing. He glances back and forth between the remaining groups of combatants before speaking, "You under arrest! Come peaceful or me get angry." One of the combatants shouts something before lobbing a grenade at the police officer. A fireball erupts to the terrified screams of onlookers. As the smoke clears Magmauler can be seen looking down at the tattered remains of his shirt. He strides towards the grenadier, "Now me angry!"

"As you can see, the fight is over quickly, these men proving no match for the PPD's finest."

As the fighting ends, the cameraman emerges from cover and slowly approaches the scene. You can see Magmauler stacking the unconscious men into a neat pile. He plucks a helmet off of one of the men and sticks it on his head with a grin. "It okay citizen. You safe now." Picking up the six men and throwing them over his shoulder, he leaps off towards the Ziggursky Penitentiary.

"Once again, the heroes of Paragon City save the day. PPD officials have yet to release any information on the men taken into custody, but the chief has commended Special Detective Hiller for his prompt response and handling of the situation. For updates, please visit Paragon5.com. Now back to you Phil and Nancy."

Nancy begins talking about a new playground development project by Crey Industries, but you've had enough and switch the tv off for now.

((Mags has a new outfit, and a new offensive build. Unfortunately I can't afford to enhance it just yet, so he'll be sticking to his usual for now. I'll be there tonight, how about you guys?))
  11. Incorruptible just made the jump to the Rogue Islands last night. I'll be running with a static team from 7-9 EST, so I might catch you after that.
  12. You kick a dude in the face! And then just plain kick him off the rooftop! What's not to love!? Slot a full set of Kinetic Crash into Crane Kick for like 170% knockback and you're good to go!
  13. Somewhat related: since some electric melee/electric blast powers drain end and return end, how does the Perf Shifter proc work in those cases?
  14. Of the ones you listed, I'd go Shield/Mace or Shield/Axe: good aggro, good damage (ST and AoE), and good mitigation. And smacking folks in the head with a club never gets old.
  15. The Human Bomb, oddly enough the only character I've purposely made an homage of, despite having only read about the character for a few pages in Infinite Crisis before his death.

You touch something, it explodes. It's like a more entertaining, if somewhat more horrific, spin on the Midas Touch.
  16. Hurray for more power selections. Not-so-hurray for the slot-hungry powers we're going to take instead.

    Post a Character

My loyalist scrapper (Kin/Regen). He'll be getting a permanent costume at 20, because I'm not really digging this one.

  18. Starflier

    So I saw Machete

Seems most of the critics are liking it as well, which somewhat surprises me.
  19. Personally, I've been too ridiculously broke the last 5 or 6 months to watch much of anything. Now I have a new job, I'll be looking to rectify that, although, probably moreso with rentals than going to the theaters. If only ticket prices up here were dirt cheap like they are in America.
  20. I'll have to keep this in mind for when the Incorruptible finally gets out of Praetoria. Law and Order, no matter the cost.
