There you have it folks! Synapse is the Red Shirt of CoH.

Always getting killed, but never dead.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    He's not a red shirt he's CoH's Kenny.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No, actually, they accurately portray him as a Blaster. If you noticed, it was the defender (Manticore) who suggested that he go in first... not the "tanker" or "scrapper" but the Defender. And, like all head-strong blasters, Synapse probably thought, well, if the Defender has my back, I can be the first one through the door...

I thought that a total of 2 times in my career... the first, was in a clockwork mission where my GF (a high level defender) suggested I go right and our scrapper go left while she stayed in the middle to heal both of us... Debt!

The second, I was granted invisibility by said GF, and our Tanker suggested I SS around to scout... Do you know that Demons spawn out of portals even if you have this kind of stealth? Do you know that is a Demon blocks a doorway and you try to go through, they will ALL see you... Debt!

This just goes to show what the Devs think of Blasters... They are jealous of their damage potential, so they think they should be sent in early and killed quickly.

Just kidding, but the video does show the typical mortality rate of most missions!

States: Well someone has to scout.
Manticore: I'm not doing it, I just go my suit cleaned.
Positron: Don't look at me, I'm all out of awakens.
Jet Li: Hey I'm a Natural, one of you super freaks do it.
States: Geez guys, we're heroes here, one of you has to go!
Synapse: Why is everyone looking at me? Oh I get it. Send the blaster right? I'm just going to die anyway so why not?
Manticore: Just go do it, you have SS.
Synapse: Yeah fine. Just have your rez ready Posi.
Positron: Dude, I spec'd that out last week.
    Synapse: ........you guys are [censored].

I swear I had this exact conversation on a team last week

Combat Jumping and Hurdle just increase your jump height. Niether one increases your forward movement AKA speed.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, as a character that plays with both Combat Jumping and Hurdle, your movement speed is increased.

With hurdle (I tested this a couple of days ago) I was able to move from point A to point B faster than a friend who was just running. With Sprint on, I was still able to move faster than him (my hurdle was unslotted at the time and both our sprints were slotted with 1 EndRed). Combat jumping adds the same thing. He was running while I was jumping, then we both tried jumping. My jumping with hurdle made me faster than his running...

Could you please add these into your stats?
  5. I just got done trying it, and it rocks! I have my ET slotted 1 Acc, 1 RecRed, and 4 Dam (Used to be a ConRng instead of a RedRed). With Hasten up, I am able to fire like this: BU, Aim, ET, EB, ET. After that, all I have to do is cycle through and take out the Lieutenants and Bosses! If I have an Empath's Fortitude (or other damage enhancing power), I only need to take out the bosses! With a Kinetics boost (Fulcrum Shift I think) I was able to take down a group of 3 Fake Nemesis, 2 of which had their group shields up!

Thank you for this wonderful new AoE Weapon of Mass Destruction!

lol ... rack up a post count the size of mine and if nothing else people will start thinking you are mildly crazy ... that has to count for something

    [/ QUOTE ]

Mildly crazy? You are a Tanker! For that you must be half psychotic, half suicidal, and half paranoid! I know, that's three halves, but then again, most Tankers are Gargantuan!
  7. I think I'll try that as well... If I can have something besides my 6-damage slotted Nova to do to large groups, it might save my bacon in the Shadow Shard

Wanted to give a thanks to ImmortalNite for all the posting he has done when I'm not around. He pretty much thinks like I do

What? There are two of them now! Somebody has to start spraying or something before this Inv/SS Tanker thing catches on and puts Fire Tankers out of a job!

Seriously, thanks for all the advice. You have helped me take my almost-abortion of a Tanker and turn him into a Hero! For those of you who don't know, here's what he used to look like:

So, thanks for all the help!

Kill Everyone and Put the Kittens in a Box!

Where was I, oh yes, therapy!
  10. How can I put this in terms that would be completely understood by those with a different for mof insanity than I have?

For the past year, I have neglected my studies, I have my family, I have neglected my job (I have not neglected my girlfriend because she got me hooked on the game in the first place ). I have been walking around with a glaze over my eyes and a constant twitch in my right index finger...

This is all because of the wonderful Devs and their amazing game!

Thank you all so much for putting me into a mind-numbing stuppor when I am not playing the game (or posting on the boards). And my Sergeants would like to thank for the the same mind-numbing stuppor keeping me out of their hair

    Blaster Damage

I've been reading these posts and I agree with most of them. My blaster needs better attacks. I have build a "Sniper" class of blaster: I have all ranged attacks and only Power Thrust as a Melee. All of my ranged attacks (except for Power Push) are 6-slotted. I also have Aim and Build Up.

Here's a typical senario of my kind of combat:

Aim, build up and sniper blast the closest minion. While it is charging, target and que up Power Blast. After both fire, Power Bolt. OK, I have now killed 2 Even to +1 minions. +2 Minions require me to fire Explosive blast to take out that final sliver of health they still have. Now, I have killed 2 minions and agroes the entire mob around, beside, and behind them. Now I start spamming out Energy Torrent, Power Push, and my other powers as I run backwards and hope the KB works to my advantage.

If I go up against Mezzers, I die. If I go up against anything with more than 2 Lieutenants, or anything with a Boss, I die.

I tried something with another character and designed a Blapper (Only taking the Energy Manipulation Secondaries as well as Tough/Weave and other combat defense powers). I slotted all my attacks with 1 Acc and 5 Dam. I ruled with that character and had seceral teams tell me that I was a Scrapper with a Red coin beside my name

This is in comparrison to my Blaster who was kicked off of several teams because "you don't do enough damage and can't keep up with the Scrappers." I then bring up my Katana/Regen and ask if they have a free-slot and an SK and get an instant invite. My Scrapper is level 15 and I can get an SK up to 40 to help with the team that just kicked me... how does that make my blaster feel? Gimped!

Since hitting level 41 I have gained access to the Shields offered in the Force Mastery, but the only one I have only keeps minions away about 20% at the time and drains my already prescious endurance too quickly for the benefit.

I chose to make a blaster because that is the type of character I alays play in pen-and-paper RPGs. I love Blasters and hope to get mine to 50 before I5... but with only my SG and close friends willing to team with me, it is going to be difficult at best, impossible at worse.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.
  13. I'm trying to make my D3 as good as she can be. Can any of you please critique my build and tell me what you think and what changes you think I need to make. The only thing I don't want to change is the Super Jump (It is part of my character concept and a really good travel power). Thanks

  14. I ran a couple of tests with my build last night (I removed the end reducers from TI and Unyielding) With all 3 up, you should have no problems and do not even need TH. With Perma-Hasten you have a Defense of 14.6 vs. ranged/melee and Resists of 102.94 vs lethal/smashing, 90.6 vs cold/fire/energy/neg energy, and 47.6 vs toxic. The decimals are only a guess and I drew and tested most of the numbers from CoH Planner 1.5a (www.joechott.com/coh).

TH 6-slotted only takes your defense up to 32.45 defense vs. ranged/melee...

I have Resist Energies/Elements 5-slotted, RPD 1 slotted, and Unyielding 6-slotted with Resists. Invince is 4-slotted with defense and 2 with to hit.

I personally, after doing the tests and checking my build off of the wonderful help here, see no reason to take TH. Yes, you won't get hit as much, but when something that can one-shot a blaster does only 25 damage to you, does it matter? All that might happen is you might have to hit Dull Pain a little more. The enhancements can be put to better use elsewhere and another power might be better in your build.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I want a bind that activates the targeter for teleport when I push it once (which I can do easily) and deactivates it when I push it again if I decide not to teleport at just that time (which I absolutely CANNOT GET TO WORK!!). It works this way when it's on the power tray and I hit the number key, but when I bind it it doesn't. What is the proper bind command for this?

Even better, is it possible to make it such that holding down one key activates the targetter and letting go deactivates it? I mean, is there a way to bind the activation of teleport to lshift being pressed and the deactivation of teleport to lshift being released, so I always AND only get the targetter/option to teleport while lshift is held down? That would be best, for me.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Here's one that I just bound recently that I simply love:

    /bind shift+lbutton "powexec_name teleport"

To telepory, just hold down the shift button and click somewhere. When you click you both activate the power and select the location at the same time. Now all you have to do is click away and you will go there. When you no longer want to teleport where you click, just let go of the shift key.
  16. My Ill/FF Controller uses Teleport as if it were a primary attack power. My Phantom Morons have a bad habit of running up to various mobs and agroing them ontop of me. Well, I was trying out new tactics and found one I truely love. I set out some Morons, put up PFF, then TP across and out of the agro range of a mob. My Morons will run upto and take out the mob while I TP in, Flas, and TP back out... I've not yet found a group that this does not work with... then again, I'm only level 27...
  17. [ QUOTE ]
When does it become possible to blast away a +1 or +2 mob of 8 or 10 without having to run away after having only off'd one or two of the mob? Is it ever possible? (I hate asking a group to help me with these hunting mishs. Don't know why.)

    [/ QUOTE ]

It is possible and I was doing it before my 3rd respec. Here's what I found works best...

    1) Hover up out of melee range, but be close enough to use the main powers (Stealth will help with this).

    2) Target an enemy just past the closest one. Then hit the powers in this order: Aim, Build Up, and Sniper.

    3) When you see the animation and halo around the sniper power, quickly target the nearest enemy and hit Blast. When Sniper and Blast both fire, hit Bolt.

    4) Use Blast, Bolt, and Burst on whatever comes in range. If you start taking too much damage, run away. Then, rinse and repeat.

My normal tactic is to Hover, Aim, Build, Snipe the farthest. While snipe is charging, I Bolt then blast the closest. Now my BU and Aim have dropped, so I start spamming torrent and explosive on the mob as they get close. If anyone is not KBed, Power Push handles that.

I can go through a group of Crey in nothing, except when they have a Protector with them. DE and Nemesis are easy also. Rikti I have a problem with, but if I start to get overwhelmed I hit the panic button: NOVA!

After that either they die, or I die... either way, what fun!
  18. OK, I reworked some things based on the suggestions above. I removed the fightig pool and instead gave myself Dull Pain earlier. I worked in Knockout Blow and Foot Stomp as early as I could get them. I gave Invincibility 2 To Hits and 4 Def Buffs.

I am still iffy on giving up the end reducers in both TI and Unyielding, because with all three (Invinc, TI, Uny) I want to keep attacking with no End Break (in case the fecal matter really hits the air circulation device).

Finally, I added Rage in the 47 slot and Unstoppable in the 49 slot. These are step 1 and step 2 in the "uh-oh" program. If I can't beat it's brains in with Rage, I go Unstoppable and then beat it down... If unstoppable goes down and I'm still fighting, then the battle was too tough and I deserve the debt

  19. I thank you for your critiques and will make changes accordingly. If anyone else can make comments, I'd love to hear them. Now that I look at the whole Tough vs TI, I see what you mean. Also, as for the Weave... the AV class Psionics are still going to own me without a good Clear Mind spammed on me, but up till then it will help. I'm talking about the Rikti and Carnies. Some of their minions, while an annoyance with weave, will be a threat without it. I'll also pick up Knockout blow. I think I will write up to respec into the fighting pool around 34... I just don't want to put it off too late.

Again, thank you. And I can't wait ot hear more...
  20. Pre 32 Illusion/Force field Controller

    Powers used in strategy:
    - Deceive
    - Phantom Army
    - Group Invisibility

Strategy: The greatest problem with defeating Sky Raiders and Devouring Earth, are their pets. The moment they are agroed, they place a Shield Generator or Eminator which very few solo Controllers can ever hope to counter. I have found a way around this problem. It is as simple as it is devious.

First, use Group Invisibility on yourself. This will let you sneak relatively close to the enemies. Don't get too close or their AoE's (especially for Devouring Earth Fungus) will rip you a new one.

Second, deceive the creator of said pet (i.e. the Engineer, Herder, etc.). They should immediately create a pet... but here is where it gets interesting. The pet will be friendly toward you. Run inside the range of the shield/healer and enjoy it's benefits.

Finally, drop a group of Phantom Army and start spamming Deceive across all the villians. You get the majority of the experience if just a single Phantom hits. If someone else drops an eminator/shield, or the one you are using goes bad, just deceive it! Deceive works on them like anything else; they will give youtheir benefits!

Nothing feels better than watching Sky Raiders trying to hit you through one of THEIR OWN Shield Generators or watching Devouring Earth try killing you while you are standing next to a Tree of Life healing like a Regen Scrapper!

Oh, and you don't even want me to start in on what Deceive can do to a Crey Paragon Protector or a Malta Titan who are in the middle of a large group... or even better: A MALTA SAPPER!

I have also noticed, though I need to test it more as I was in the presence of someone with group confusion, that a Deceived Rikti Communications Officer will create a portal that friendly Rikti will come out of. I am unsure if it was the group confusion or if I found a wonderful explot for those annoying Rikti missions/Crash Site, but please let me know.
  21. I'd have to say that my build, while it may not be the best, if an awesome build for soloing.

I am a Controller to be reckoned with. I am currently at level 26 and rock! My tactics are simple...
    1) I confuse the biggest-baddest [censored] in the group.
    2) I drop my phantom morons right on top the the group while the big-bad is wailing on them
    3) I drop off a Spectral Terror on them to root them and make them wet themselves.
    4) While they are playing with my moron squad, I run in (with group invisibility of course) and flash them.
    5) keep dropping phantom morons and hitting them with spectral wounds... if someone gets too close to me, or if they even think about attacking me, they get confused and become another pet of mine!

Except for TFs I've soloed all my missions up to this point and even defeated Dr. Vaz solo!

As for my secondary of Force Field. Well, PFF works as an "oh, shite" power and I have had no problem finding a group being a "bubbler."
  22. I just read about every Inv/SS build guide there is and am now officially insane because of it! On a more serious note, this is the build I came up with.

Now to explain some of the odd-looking points of this build...

Taunt: I have this power 4-slotted to be a good team player. Also the fact that I won't have to spam taunt to get and hold distant agro. It might even help keep some agro away from the Blasters and other high-damage squishies.

Hasten: I choose to take Hasten after Stamina so I won't have much of a problem endurance-wise.

Tough Hide: Talking to other tankers and some Kheldians specializing in Nova-form, about this level the damage starts getting pretty bad. To offset this, I am taking Tough Hide here so I don't get hit quite as often. I know that Tankers are all about taking damage, but something I learned in grade school applies here... It's better to not get hit with the dodge-ball than risk a nut-shot.

Kick, Tough and Weave: Kick and Tough are throw-away powers, but I had to get them to get Weave. Weave goes along with my prior Tough Hide statement, but takes it one step further... Psionics! Starting at about level 40 is when the psychic damage starts hitting home. Carnies and Rikti, along with clockwork and some AVs, make this, IMO a must have to keep from getting knocked around too badly.

Hurl: Because it would be impossible to slot this power heavily with damage (level 49 and all) I am slotting this power with a KB for the annoyance factor. I don't like being knocked down, and whenever my Energy blaster knocks something down, tanker or no, it usually get's up pissed off at me. Well, here's my primary ranged KB power. Also, from a RL logical view... if you were hit by a 4 ft wide chunk of asphalt, wouldn't you fall down?

Sprint: Just to answer some of your questions, this is how I always slot Sprint. I have my special edition Power Slide slotted with running and my Pre-order Prestige slotted with Endurance Reduction.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how I might better my build, please let me know. And, thanks for the guide, keep up the good work.

Currently, I'm recommending that energy blasters make a costume that looks like a phantasm, so they can follow illusion controllers around and hope the controller doesn't notice the extra phant.
"w-t-f? when did they give phantasms a snipe? And NOVA???"

I like it! I have a costume that's similiar, and if someone gives me invisibility, I can almost blend in! Then it's time for some psychotic twitchy goodness!
  24. I just saw the comic and saved all the pages... evn if they change the text... WWWWOOOOWWWW!!!!

I would like to thank Top Cow and City of Heroes for AGAIN making me drool all over my keyboard!

As far as I know wolves and DE are resistant to KB. Certain others also, but more often than not you can knock anyone around especially with power push.

I will have to disagree with you on one point... DE are not resistant to knockback. In reality, if you knock one of them down, there is a chance, they will lay there for a few moments for some unknown reason. I have been in missions where I threw an explosive blast and knocked half of the group down... when I defeated the rest that were standing I ran on and got sent to the hospital from about three alpha strikes.
