Character Name: Cleric of Light
Server: Justice
Archetype: Controller (Illusion Control/Force Field)
Inspiration: A really good fantasy book.
Brief Explanation or a link to my origin:
Shannon Carter was raised in a very strict religious community on the outskirts of Paragon City. The community considered all heroes as evil, no matter their powers or motivation. Shannon never agreed with that, though. Her only escape from the church was her weekend visits with her grandmother in the city. Unknown to her parents, Shannons grandmother taught her the magic of the Clerics, a religious order dedicated to peace and light. Shannons parents never knew, and Shannon was happy to keep it that way. Then Shannons world crashed down around her. The 5th Column/Council civil war spilled into her town. As the people huddled in their homes praying for safety, Shannon sprang into action and used her powers to save the town. As a reward, she was excommunicated and exiled from the town forever. With nowhere else to turn, she ran to her grandmothers house only to find it empty, save a note: Fulfill your Destiny! And she did. If they have formed a Council of War, then a war they shall have! -
Character Name: Tesserak
Server: Justice
Archetype: Defender (Dark Miasma/Dark Blast)
Inspiration: Name: from the book "A wrincle in Time." Character: Concept based around powerset and issue starting event.
Brief Explanation or a link to my origin:
Tonya Teusaw was a scientist in Portal Corp before the Rikti Invasion. When they first opened their portals, it caused a rupture which sucked Tonya through to an unknown dimension, the Shadow Shard. She was found by a Rularuu scout group and taken to the Storm Palace. There, she was interrogated and tortured. When the Rularuu learned of Paragon City, and the heroes defending it, they devised a plan to use Tonya as a weapon against them. Her body and mind was twisted and warped into the perfect weapon. She became a creature who uses the very shadows to fight. When the time was right, the Rularuu invaded. Tonya, now called Tesserak by her cruel masters, was the first through. As she entered Paragon City, though, she turned on her captors. Rather than fight with the Rularuu, she fought against them. She joined the heroes that day to repell the threat to the city, and vowed to repell every threat facing Paragon City. Tonya is no more, but Tesserak is here. A Shadow of the Past here to protect the future! -
Character Name: Flag-Waver
Server: Justice
Archetype: Tanker (Invulnerability/Super Strength)
Inspiration: Statesman
Brief Explanation or a link to my origin:
Gary Andrews always believed that the only way to better his surroundings was to better himself. He applied this fact to everything he did. He was an all-state sports star and perfect student. When he graduated he surprised everyone when he turned down several scholarships to major universities and went into the Army. He graduated at the top of his class in training and was stationed in Paragon City. When the Rikti invaded, Gary was on the front lines. Throughout the war, he earned more medals than most companies. Then tragedy struck. In the final days of the war, he came under fire from a new kind of weapon. It shifted him out of reality and into a mirror world. He could view everyday life, but only from behind the mirrors. Rather than go insane from isolation, he found and learned the training secrets of Statesman. When Portal Corp went online, Gary was pulled back through into Paragon City. He registered as Flag-Waver (a synonym of Statesman). He has been Through the Looking Glass but is now here to stay! -
Character Name: Starfire-One
Server: Justice
Archetype: Blaster (Energy Blast/Energy Manipulation)
Inspiration: Role-playing character originally made in 1986.
Brief Explanation or a link to my origin:
Jason Ellenburg was born and raised in Paragon Citys Outbreak neighborhood. He was just a normal kid in high school when his life was changed forever. During a fight in school, he let out a punch sheathed in pure energy; his mutation surfaced. He was immediately transferred into the Special Heroic Education Program. He graduated high school with honors, but he did not however, register as a hero. He just wanted to live a normal life then the Rikti invaded. He was forced to use his powers to defend his neighborhood from the onslaught. In the fighting he was struck down and almost killed. It was by luck that Hero 1 flew by and rescued him. In that moment, he realized his true potential, the reason he was given his powers. Whether he wanted it or not, the mantle of Hero had been laid upon him. After the Rikti were defeated Paragon City opened itself to heroes. Jason registered as a hero that very day. He took the name Starfire-One (in memory Hero 1s sacrifice). In a City of Heroes, he is a Hero! -

That's a nice touch. But I would really like to have seen 24 hours of no debt. I mean, I've died a bunch of times, and have so much debt I will not see 50 for a LONG time, and I'm 48.
This is VERY rude on your part. As bad as the WoW community is, it seems we are being forced to move there. To bad, we've been playing CoH since it came out, and it seems this will always be my favorite all time game.
So thank you for all the wonderful memories. I'm sorry that you let things get so bad that you feel the need to drive players away.
Good luck to everyone, I hope you all have as good a time as I 've had had.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ah, you're right. You ar being forced to move to WoW.
The GMs get back to you too quickly in Coh, you need the GMs to ignore and tell you there is no problem when it is blatantly obvious.
Oh, and you need to go to WoW so you can feel better about playing when an 8 year old decided to PK you and insult your heritage because they think it's fun, can't get that kind of treatment in CoH.
Not to mention the fact the the Devs tell you what's happening (nerfed, buffed, etc.) before it happens! Dear Lord, you NEED WoW so they can change things without telling anyone! I mean, what fun is it to have one of the most powerful builds and then find out beforehand that they are nerfing it down?
Okay, I'm better now. -
Will the Witche's Hat be the only costume piece available? I'd love to see other Accolade costume pieces! Kinda the Cape of the Four Winds (Collector's Edition) is rewarded for the V.I.P. Badge (in a way).
Just curious. -
[ QUOTE ]
You know, as hurt as I have been over the performance and command level descisions as of late, this really takes the cake.
Most badges are nothing but time takers, and serve no purpose other than to make players wait. Taskforces take several hours for no other purpose than to make them longer so more people cannot complete them.
Monster Badges - Could have a designated spawn, where you complete a set of tasks for a zone, and your team gets the monster spawn - Inside of a door mission. Couldn't do that though, that's too easy. That lets too many people get badges.
Monsters spawning regularly to give people badges? Oh can't be that catering to the public. You can't give us what WE want now can you?
Character Badges - Your expectations exclude all but the most rabid fanboys. Let me give you a few examples.
Immortal - Take 1,000,000,000 Damage You are truly Immortal. You have survived one billion points of damage.
Jailed Guess: 100 hours of being held Enemies no longer regard you as a threat.
Now is there any reason for both of those to be as high as they are? No. The only reason is to get people to play a few months longer to get 2 badges with no practical purpose.
You want us to work hard for badges? You want to make us work for badges? Fine, give the badges rewards attached to them. How about every 10 Exploration badges you get you recieve +100 health? How about every 3 Mission Badges you get you get +100 endurance? How about for each Taskforce given by a Hero; Numina, Positron, Synapse, Sister Psyche, etc, you are give +1 power or 2 enhancement slots. No?
How about you make Accolades worth the effort? How about the Crey Pistol actually be effective in combat with equal enemies, worth using. Couldn't do that apparently.
You don't want people to be unhappy with badges? Then quit taking the fun out of them. Stop taking the fun out of everything. I didn't start playing to get the Carrot and the Stick treatment. Stop telling people what they should consider fun and start asking them what they want as fun.
Just so you know, I hate Tyrants...we have enough of them in our world telling us what we should do. Did we start this game for us to have fun? I guess not. We have no one in our corner, we have no voice, we make no desicisions and I'm getting really really fed up with it.
At this rate you might as well take away all the badges, make the level cap level 35, remove stamina as a power, and set the defense cap for everyone at 2%. As far as I'm concerned the developers can take their idea of fun and....
[Censored for the decency of minors, senior citizens, pregnant women, small people, minor household kitchen gadgets, and anyone else with a pulse. Please ignore this flaming volley of profanities and continue with your normally scheduled program]
....grrr...I get so sick of this. I didn't pay for this abuse. If I want to pay for abuse I'll join something like Matrix Online, or call somewhere I can pay $4.95 per minute.
No offense to any City of Heroes fans, only to the Tyrants establishing policy in the name of 'Fun'.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not sure what game you've been playing, but there are rewards for collecting badges. Besides bragging rights, which do not matter for some players, there are rewards.
1) Accolades. Ya, they are supposed to be putting out new accolades at some point.
2) Epic ATs. Statesman said that level 50 would not be a requirement for all the Epic ATs, but other accomplishments would! This means a couple of things to me, the most important is BADGES!
3) Badge [censored] (rhymes with oar). If you feel that the new content is the badges. The stories on the badges show the history and backstory in the game. That to me is key: A Good Story!
There's the reason why people might want the badges.
But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. -
I have a couple of questions I hope might be answered by the local forum-goers or even an elusive Redname (Lays out the trap and baits it with Pie)
<ul type="square">[*]If/when I get my 1-year Beta Invite, will the Pre-Order still be effective (and if so will I have to put it in before or after my 1-year invite)?[*]I ordered mine through Amazon.com, does that mean I'm getting the Wolf Spider War Helmet (I got Prestige Power Surge-Generic from my CoH Pre-Order from Amazon)?[/list]
Thanks and I can't wait for CoV Beta to start! I know it's not going to be a "game" but it will still be fun to poke around and see what's broken! -

It's the same symbol that Lord Recluse uses, although I'm not certain if it has an official name or not.
[/ QUOTE ]
It is definitely not the Arachnos symbol.
[/ QUOTE ]
It really does have a chitinous look about it, though. I suppose that could reflect their metallic blades and hardware more than a connection to Arachnos (perhaps the little dots on the circle are rivets).
Still -- CONSPIRACY!
[/ QUOTE ]
Remember, in the original CoV video, it was Freakshow supporting Lord Recluse, not that group he has with him now. It's possible it has spider undertones.

Also remember that the Freakshow will work for anyone who provides sandwiches and a keg.

Wow, sounds like my old National Guard unit! -
I have a total of five characters, soon to be six. The reason? So I can talk to every contact, see every mission, read every clue. Yes, I am geeky like that. When I5 hits, I'll be making my first Kheldian and starting up their story-arc missions! I can't wait. If the Devs aren't giving us souvenirs anymore, well then, I'll just take all my notes and make my own!
Thanks for the wonderful stories, Manticore. They are the main reason I have alt-i-tis! -
I am one of those strange people, I am making a "Pure Kheldian." I have taken no power pools, because I feel I do not need them. Anyway, I am currently level 33. This is my build. It works amazingly well. Oh, the things in Italics I haven't taken/added yet.

Postitron made one positive comment for an upcoming I5 correction. Unyeilding's Resistance will be doubled and the Defense penalty put back to the -5% we are used to. When questioned as to if that meant Unyeilding would go to 10% total vice its 20% on Live, Positron said he wasn't sure on the numbers, but Invincible and Unyeilding together should net 20% resistance.
20% means back to where it is on Live, as Invincible is Defense and Accuracy only.
5% Resistance with -12.5% Defense is where Unyeilding sits on Test currently, 20% Resistance with -5% Defense is where it stands on Live, and it seems that it will stay 20% Resis/-5% Def in an upcoming I5 correction.

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I'm not sure if this will fix everything. I like that I'll no longer be a paper-tank when it comes to smashing/lethal, but I'm still concerned with the energy/elemental damage types. Also, what about the fact that I've had my toggles dropped by brawls!
Anyway, here is an idea I got from a friend and have been building on. It's not a Superman idea, but it fits better with the whole CoH thing. This is a Statesman Build. My friend got a screenshot of States during Origins and the list of powers he had. He was on Pinnacle and it was pure luck they were both in Striga at the same time. Well, I extrapolated on it and built this character.

First off, Yes, I do have the Leadership pool. Why? Because in all of my tests on the Test Server the bonuses help where invincibility fail. Running just my Leadership toggles, I have the same accuracy as Invincibility on live.
What's with the few attacks prior to level 38? Well, as a Tanker, my attacking is limited. If I wanted to take more attacks, I would have made a Scrapper. This number of attacks recycles fast enough to throw them all (including Brawl), taunt, then start again.
Why slot Jab with Damages? Well, Jab is a strong melee power also. Yes, there are some that are stronger, but I've found a secret. Agro depends on how many damage enhancements are in a power, not the overall damage it does! I found this after measuring the agro pull off a Tanker with my blaster after deleting all my enhancements on Test.
I hope this info is useful. If you have any questions about my build, I can be reached at @Starfire_One. On the Justice Server, look up Flag-Waver some time (that's my Tank). I'll show you how effective a level 32 Tank with this build is.
Good Luck and Good Hunting, Heroes! -
I am a badge-[censored] (rhymes with oar). I have the almost compulsive drive to get every badge just for the pure enjoyment of people telling me I have too much freetime. With this in mind, what's up with the billion mark? I have Medicine pool, but like others have said, I a mno match for a healer in combat. Heck, I'm interrupted in the Hami Raids because of the Goo making the single best time to get the badged useless! Can this be lowered a little.
I heard on a Dev Post a while back that certain of the new Epic ATs would be opened by attaining different things in-game. I'm guessing one of these (at least) will be badge-[censored] related. If this is the case, and if you can comment on this, will the billion-mark badges be included in attaining this goal? I as that because my fiance is an Emp Defender and a fellow BW, and she was aghast when she learned about the billion mark.
Just a thought. If you can't post it, however, can you at least send me a Yes/No in a PM? Thanks! -
From levels 1-30 this power is better than sliced bread! It is caable of driving a blaster, solo, through every level he has! After 30, this power will face-plant anyone who can't change their tactics. It sets a bad habit for both blasters and healers. The blaster will keep himself dangerously low in the red for the damage increase, but so will the healer f they are new and do not know any better. After level 30, there are too many enemies who can mez a blaster too easily for this power to be effective. As a 50, if I am flashing in the red (a great damage boost), I am usually defeated before the animation for my next power can fire. With tankers no longer able to Tank enemies, this just puts a bigger cross-hair on Blasters.
Recommendations: Raise it a little to be opposite of health. at 95% health, you get a 5% boost. 90% = 10%. At 75% Health, double it. 75% = 50% boost. 70% = 6-% boost. At 50% health, tripple it. 50% = 100% boost. 40% = 180% boost. At 25% health, quadruple it. 25% = 300% boost. At 10% you have a whoping 360% Boost... That makes a 396% boost with only 1% hit points. -
I have not had any wave missions on my characters, but I have helped a few others. The Ally missions are the same.
Ally Recomendations: Let them Agro into a fight at the same time a mob is agroed. You start fighting the mob, they start also! Maybe their pathing could be made a little better. Also, well... This might contain a spoiler so I'll understand if you delete it... Let us find Statesman earlier in the Tyrant mission so he can help us with Tyrrant!
Escort Recommendations: Here's the biggest one! Let us stop a hostage from running through the middle of a group of 10 villians and getting face-planted instantly! Allow them to keep a short distance behind the mission-holder, not following the Tanker into the Mob!
Wave Update: First, watch the spawn of Quantums in the Waves. It's easy to see a Void or Kheldian, but when Quantums run in without warning, Calamari Time! Secondly, Whenever, as a Tanker, I Taunted a group of Fir Bolg to come attack me, 5 did... the rest made a bee-line for the exit! It finally took 4 low-levels to exemp 4 50 down, then the 50s SKed the lowbies up to defeat it (Then it took 3 tries at that). -
I have only one question... are these permanent zone events or just for the issue?
-
From the looks of things, they are effectively hamperingthe ability of Invulnerablility... which does not bode well for those Tankers. I was just on a full team of 8, going up against Infernals minions. I died once, mostly because I was trying to test out Defiance, but was defeated before I could.
Our Tanker was doing his job. He ran ahead of the group and Taunted... He went down faster than our Kheldian in Nova form! I would say nor more than 4 minions and a Lieutenant, all even level, defeated him.
I'm posting this on my Thread. We need to do our own data-mining and present a reasonable case to the Devs. Then we might be able to get some of these changed nixed. -
Well, here's the thing people... if we don't do something besides watch people start the Flame Wars... these changes WILL go live! I've contacted the Devs and asked if there was anything I could do to help... well, here it is:

This is Beta all over again! I'm going to be starting a series of small threads in the Test Server Area (unless someone beats me to the punch) for the posting of actual hard numbers.
This means, run up to a level 50 villian on Live and take the beating. Write dow nthe numbers of their damage, your damage, etc. Do the same thing (preferably against the same kind of villian) on the Test Server. Post it! Live it! Love it!
The only way we can get these "nerfs" changed is if we show the Devs solid numbers and experiences and not Rants and "Doom" sayings. Please, pass this along to everyone you know of. Thank you. -

Look at it this way... Yes, you only have 1 primary and secondary to chose from, but you have more powers than you can shake a squid at! It's an AT because you can combine them into any way you want! If you don't like it, though... make a Scrapper or another blaster or something!
