  1. Character Select's always been an issue. It seems only to work when there's fewer people logged in, and there's still a good chance the login server doesn't respond in time. Which is why you get kicked to the login screen.

There is an option to create a shortcut to City of Heros. Right click and that should bring up the context menu.

And another, in the NCSoft Launcher's File - Settings menu, to close the launcher so that it doesn't eat up memory while resident. There's a memory leak.

Other than that, it could be server-side corruption of the character database entries for your characters. In which case, I hope that the developers/customer service have the tools to repair individual characters.
  2. The "trick" is NOT to ride the Incarnate Trial train.
Do the weekly strike target. Do other TFs. Team with people, gather shards; they drop at all levels, even when you're exemped down, as long as you have the alpha unlocked. If you find yourself missing a component you need, craft it from shards. This is especially true with the component you get from the Cathedral of Pain Trial.
  3. Warrant (Power Loyalist contact, by the statue of Marauder) is the Praetorian Blue Steel so far as I know.
  4. The problem with the filter is that it is overly aggressive, period. Some intern somewhere apparently was given a list of comic book characters and told "Put them all into the filter" without any form of brains being involved.

Many of the filtered words *shouldn't be* because there ARE no copyrights on the dictionary.
For instance, Cyclops should not be filtered, unless someone is creating an individual character named Scott Summers who shoots eyebeams from his eyes and wears a ruby-red visor or glasses. That requires brains to figure out, though, not a generic filter.

    New Power Supply

In fact, getting a more powerful power supply than you need can cost you in terms of power draw and case heat.
  6. Is she also using the new NCSoft launcher?
  7. Alternately, drop Glinting Eye and take Gleaming Bolt instead. Add as many damage procs as it will handle, and throw in the -resist proc too.

    Quick Question

You have to have a level 20 Hero that started out in Outbreak, Galaxy City or Atlas Park, to unlock Heroic Archetypes. Just logging in once on that character should flag it.

Similarly, you have to have a level 20 Villain that started out in Breakout or Mercy Island to unlock the Villain Archetypes.
  9. Change out one of the end mod IOs for a Performance Shifter Endurance Modification IO. That gets you to two of the same set, which gives additional +recovery.

Other than that, good luck. Peacebringers just cannot pull off the same things Warshades do, because Peacebringers cannot self-cap their own resists.
  10. Static comes from friction. If your computer is moving THAT much while you're using it, you have bigger problems than just static.
  11. It's much better for airflow to have the power supply on the bottom and a large fan on the top helping to vent heat. Also, having the heaviest part of the computer's internals on the bottom of the case keeps it much more stable and much less likely to be knocked over by an accidental kick or a pet dashing about the room.

My computer sits directly on carpet. No issues with heat buildup. It's sat on wood before too. If you're really concerned, go to a home supply store and buy a couple of ceramic tiles, some ceramic to wood glue or epoxy, and a few 2" by 1" by 2' strips of wood. Make yourself a platform and put the computer on top of it.
  12. Translation:

"Someone hit me with this power in PVP and it really really hurt! Nerf it!"
  13. This is an issue with the mapserver, not with you or with your computer. Sometimes, it simply "does not work". This problem has been around for months, possibly even years at this point.

The work-around is to quit to desktop, do something else for five minutes, then log back on.
If this happens on a task force, the solution is for the entire team to quit to desktop and do something else for five minutes, then log back in. Then the people who experienced the problem should try to load into the mission *first*, ahead of everyone who didn't experience the problem.
There will be a *very* long load time, but you should then be able to get into the mission.

The reason this works is because by logging off for five minutes, the mapserver "forgets" the map and clears whatever variable states are corrupted. It really seems like the mapserver is losing an individual character's "state bits", the flags that say "I'm on this team, I'm allowed to access this map."

    Can't update

It is, because simply put, a lot of people are malicious ******** who are quite happy to eff up your operating system with viruses.

    i20 Questions

Peacebringers need more than a little work. The powers are literally cut and paste from other powers, they don't work well together, and the entire AT seems to have been designed in a vacuum.
Also, they're very vulnerable to debuffs, having only a minimal debuff resist. And high end content, particularly Incarnate content, is debuff heavy.
They could use more damage, they could use a pet that doesn't expire almost immediately on a recharge better suited to a full Nova power, they could use a resist cap closer to that of a tanker.
Are they horribly bad? No. Are they below average? Yes. Can a dedicated Peacebringer player pull off some amazing things? Yes. Then again, nearly any AT can pull off amazing things with a dedicated player. It's just other ATs can pull those amazing things off with less effort.
Peacebringers are great in the mid levels. They fall behind in the high levels and keep falling behind.
  16. That's pretty likely. What with the Trials going on, the server might have issues sending all the combat notifications properly.
  17. You will still see Quantums and Voids redside, when teamed with a Kheld. What you will NOT see is level 40 Carnival Quantums in a level 30 redside Carnival mission.
  18. If I had to guess, this is an animation debug tool used to record and adjust, step by step, the animations, animation speed, and movement of an entity.
Developers don't name libraries randomly, and it's clear to me, from the path used, that this is a debug tool of some kind. The actual buttons shown seem to be related to the animations, what with Vel likely being shorthand for Velocity.
  19. Hm. What's the difference between -verify and the consistency check from the NCSoft launcher? Apart from one being a command line option.

No, I don't. That's what the water filter is for.
  21. Personally, I think it is a mistake. Given the amount of stress the servers have been experiencing, given the frequent mapservers and zone crashes, given the fact that entire servers have been dropping over the weekend and during the week...

This move is NOT welcome. Server maintenance periods are going to have to be more frequent until more/better hardware is brought online and/or the load on the servers is reduced.
  22. Back up at 3:47 pm, but this kind of intermittent server crash, and constant mapserve disconnects of clients, should not be happening at all.
  23. It's pretty easy. You install the SSD, you install Windows 7, you install City of Heroes. Done.

It's time for Paragon Studios to admit the current server hardware is NOT good enough, and actually upgrade the damn server racks.

Pentiums just won't cut it anymore.
