Is this Thread still going on? Wow. LB is passionate about this.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Subtle.
  2. Not sure about "at will", but IMHO there certainly ought to be some more convenient way of unslotting IOs than losing a full respec.

Maybe a "mini-respec" - a small, soloable, story arc that lets you visit a new contact and go straight to the 3rd respec screen...no chance to change powers or slot placement, but all enhancements pulled out and reslottable/keepable in the 10 enh tray. Remove the "sell" option to stop people using it at 27, 32, etc... to flog off all their SOs and use the inf to start over.

It seems to me that this disagrement is all about people considerng the feelings of others, and nothing whatsover to do with the cyborg pack.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Ultimately all disagreements boil down to that.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Arrgh. The "RAWR RAWR RAWR" thread has turned into an after-school special.

"Next up on Springer, the PvPers who say using Inspirations is cheating. erm, lol"

    [/ QUOTE ]
Say what you like, but a Tanker without Taunt isn't a proper Tanker...
  4. [ QUOTE ]
Standoff, if you're gonna do this you have to put in the posts that prompted such responses. That is completely unfair. You havent shown why I responded like that.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I did very explicitly say "Of course, these are all fragments quoted away from their original contexts", so it's not as though I'm trying to pull a fast one here.

And, as I said immediately after, "repeatedly make posts of that sort of tone in any context, and it does form an overall impression" - my whole point is that the context isn't the main issue.

    [ QUOTE ]
Then why dont you go through the posters that have spoken to me in a civilised manner and post my responses there? You know full well I was being flamed and you also know I dont like being flamed or the people that do it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
FWIW I have tried that previously, but experience has shown it's all to easy for that sort of thing too be misinterpreted so I've decided it's safer not to weigh in on either side. (We did sort things out via PM right after the linked posts - no hard feelings here!)

Besides, GR's the one to say whether something's a no-no, not me - wouldn't like to steal his work from him.

    [ QUOTE ]
Read this thread again and see who started with thr insulting behavior. I have never ever started (intentionally) a flame war nor have I ever flamed someone unless they directly flamed me first.

For instance, I dont think you ever actually flamed me and I dont think I've ever had a cross word with you. But we disagree frequently.

But yes, I sure as hell finish them. Usually its because I post and keresnki locks the thread but hey

    [/ QUOTE ]
Perhaps K can do one final thread lockage as he leaves on his last day, as an eternal memorial to his time at Brighton.

Oh yes, we do often disagree (as both of us do with other people), but as you say on an amicable basis. I'm a mild, inoffensive type, though (albeit a sarcy git whenever possible) and tend to phrase things rather mildly - while experience suggests you're not a guy to...how to put this...underreact to a perceived insult, and this does tend to start fires in places where they weren't really needed.

    Edit: Removed inaccurate statement.

    [ QUOTE ]
I'm quite sure your idea has merit, but you don't seem to be willing to admit that the existing system does, actually, work and changing it over to the mechanism you suggest may be too much work for the benefits received.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I never once said it doesnt work. I personally dont see anything wrong in taking a working idea and evolving it.
And yes, I do think it would be better but I am aware that others dont. Why should that stop me putting counter views forward when someone says they dont like it with reasons that I think can be circumvented? Doesnt mean I'm right, but that i have an idea and I'm rebutting the point thats being raised because the objection you present can be overcome.

    [/ QUOTE ]
In the absence of a lock I don't see anything at all stopping you putting counter views forward. Post away if you want, or don't if you think things have run their course, but either way there's nothing actually stopping you posting.

    [ QUOTE ]
And because of that im accused of being arrogent and dismissive.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I generally try to be impartial, and I am here too, but TBH I don't think it's the substance of your posts that lead to these accusations - it's the phrasing. Taking a few quotes from your earlier posts in this thread, we have:

    [ QUOTE ]
Besides who the heck cares about a question mark? Crikey some of you really stretch the limits of pure pedantic nonsense. Can those of you who are like that please stay away?

Is it possible that the intellegent posters, the ones who dont jump at every opportunity to be sarcastic or to knock someone else, please post?

Or nort? But the wasters? Please stay away, Cause you are a drain on these boards you really are.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Your sarcastic tone isnt appreciated and makes you look pretty pathetic.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Did you read the title or my whole point?

I'm not suggesting doing away with the concept of teaming wioth lower levels, I'm suggesting a better (imho) way of updating a 5 year old syatem to make it even more accessable than it is now.

    Can you see that now?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I asked the ones who can only go to the lowest denominator to stay off my thread. Please oblige.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
I did ask that if you want to post on topic in favour or against, please do so. I Also asked that if you are unable to manage that, then please stay off my thread.

What part of that nonsense you just served up was on topic?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Of course, these are all fragments quoted away from their original contexts, but to a fair degree that doesn't matter. Repeatedly make posts of that sort of tone in any context, and it does form an overall impression.

FWIW I've said this to try to explain why people react the way they do, not to try to provoke any sort of flame war...

    Visual C++ debug

There shouldn't be any need for downloading; just move the CoX folder to somewhere that isn't under that parent folder, change the Updater shortcuts to point to the new location, and try it from there.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
... It -really- adds up, doesn't it?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Over 3 1/2 years almost anything adds up - that's well over 1,000 days, making the daily cost of CoX significantly under 50p. You'll be spending more than that if you buy a daily paper, and a lot more if you pop into Starbucks regularly.

    [ QUOTE ]
I seem to remember a similar error if the folder into which CoH has been installed has an incorrect date. I'll have a look and see if I can find the info.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yes, I think that was the cause.

To the OP - see if the CoH directory or any of the directories above it (e.g. Program Files) has a horribly wrong date.

If the CoH one has, try creating a new folder, moving all the CoH files into it, then deleting the original (empty) CoH folder and renaming the new one to take the place of the old one.

If "Program Files" is wrong you'll probably needed an applet to refresh its datestamp - let us know and we can probably find something safe for you to download.

Edit: @Ohms - Oi! Sneaking a preemptive fix in by editing an earlier post! Tsk!

    [ QUOTE ]

I am my true self thank you very much. I am good and evil - both at the same time. I save kittens from trees whilst robbing banks. All in a days work, y'know.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    There are trees inside banks?

    [/ QUOTE ]
What else do you think money grows on?
  10. [ QUOTE ]
They could, in one fell swoop, totally destroy PLing by giving ALL mobs GM/Rikti conning code. Make them ALL con equal to your character no matter the level, and just limit the number of powers available for their zone range.

But that also has problems too. Such as the uber powerful hero suddenly having problems with a couple of ordinary mugger types.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That could be worked around if you include a few changes to the existing GM code - make it so mobs' levels are only modified if they're higher level than you; a level 25 mob would con white to a level 5 toon, but would still be very grey to a level 35 toon.

I think I'd be against such idea though, on the grounds that it would severely dent and concept of facing bigger and tougher mobs as your toon goes up in levels. As it is a newb wandering their level 10 toon into IP gets the fright of their life as all the deep purple mobs that could faceplant them with a dirty look come into view. Which leads to a real sense of accomplishment later when they've levelled a bit and can revisit the zone and hold their own.

If a level 10 could make their way to Peregrine Island and still be in with a fighting chance against the white mobs they come across, a lot of the sense of "scary place for the big boys" is taken away.
  11. Ooooh, missed by quarter of an hour!

Happy ex-birthday to all concerned anyway!
  12. Happy 15 minutes after your birthday, efan!
  13. [ QUOTE ]
its a player question but i think the rules don't apply to me.

Is Rep changable in tf/sf's and does it effect indiv mishes-

i think yes cos ive done it before and seem to have effect but alot of ppl now saying it doesnt.

    is it true or not

    [/ QUOTE ]
Further to what Tyger said it's only the current leader who's rep counts, so if the star gets passed (because the leader's logged out - you can't pass it manually on a TF/SF) the new leader's rep takes over.
  14. This started with one particularly poorly phrased comment in an otherwise supportive thread - can we all let it drop now?

Hopefully all the followup mess is threaded off that one post, and GR can (and will) easily snip it out on Monday...

(Assuming that will happen, go back to a post pre-fuss and reply to that if you want to make a new post that will escape the Great Cleansing tomorrow!)
  15. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
i love shape shifters, so i would like to see such a power implemented. But i agree it is techniqally difficult to get with the current engine. You could try (this is just a brainstorm) a mystique like character for a stalker, the hide is a form which makes you accept him (or her) so you shift constantly, again how this could be implemented in the current engine is a mystery for me!;-)

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually this exists ingame in one of the Faultline missions, where you get the Widow disguise (changes the character model) and Arachnos won't aggro to you.

Not sure if that applies to just that mish (in other words heavily scripted one-off) or to all Arachnos though.

    [/ QUOTE ]
IIRC it's all mobs, as the engine doesn't discriminate enough to let a power stop you aggroing one particular group of mobs but be treated normally by everything else.

Very handy for a brief frenzy of badge collecting, that little temp power.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
I don't know where you are basing this, probably you're an English speaker and you don't want to understand all the angles of this, but let me tell you where I am basing it:
They were offered their own localized environment when they bought the product.
It was part of the deal to make the buy.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately I think you're wrong here; if you check the current terms and conditions you'll find it doesn't promise any specific number of servers or languages at all, and even if it did/had it has this bail out option:

    [ QUOTE ]
    (b) Amendments. The Publisher may amend this Agreement or modify the Rules of Conduct at any time in its sole discretion by posting on the Official website (a) the amended Agreement or (b) the modified Rules of Conduct. When logging onto the Service, the Customer will be asked to confirm his acceptance to any such revised terms and conditions. If he does not agree to the revised terms and conditions, he should contact the Publisher immediately to discuss closure of his Account.

    [/ QUOTE ]
So even though the service had various servers with different languages available at the time you signed up, NCSoft's not obliged to keep them going.

All of that said, I hope they don't remove any servers!
  17. Enjoy the cake Miss_C!

And have a great day too!

(It has cake - how could it not be great? )
  18. I like this idea, and there are some lovely possibilities for amusing statue setups (a double-height granite statue of my Dark/Dark Corr doing the chicken emote has a bizarre appeal).

As others have said, modding of paintings could be an issue if any old JPG could be uploaded as a candidate. It'd be nice if there was a keypress (shift+Print Scrn?) which did something like "snap portrait" - i.e. stored a piccy of your current camera view internally at the server, at a hardcoded (rather low) resolution. Maybe 3-4 portrait slots per toon so there wouldn't be too much of a storage overhead, with anything selected as an actual base painting freeing up its toon slot.

That way you'd only be able to get in game scenes into paintings anyway, so there'd be no need for modding. Might need a bit too much work to implement, though, as I suspect there's no scene-rendering code server side at the moment.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
The Bay can get hella cold from this time of year on, but it's beautiful. I'm sure some of your lot would be shoo-ins for L-1 specialist knowledge visas (hell, how much more specialist can you get than Superhero Powers Designer?)

EDIT: just found the full title of the O-1 visa is "Aliens with Extraordinary Ability Visa".

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Rockjaw's really from Krypton?

Evil alien interloper or not, best wishes to you and the rest of the dev team on this RJ. May you all land on your feet, and finish up with both a higher paid role and a pleasantly large departing gift from NCSoft!
  20. Ouchies. Fingers crossed for as many people as possible on the Brighton team, and commiserations/good luck for those on the wrong side of the line.
  21. Perhaps they could have a special lapel badge costume piece. A real large badge, saying "CM plx!" in big letters.

    Edit: Fixed typo
  22. [ QUOTE ]
So they put out I14 during the tail end of CO beta.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If they're aiming for that they may find themselves with a bit of leeway; it's not as though software generally has a reputation for getting released on schedule, and CO's unlikely to be any different.
  23. [ QUOTE ]
I think yours should be reset to zero and your Forum Title returned to Citizen.

    [/ QUOTE ]
She'd be back in the Cartel inside a week...
  24. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Yeah, that does seem likely for I13 - that said, I don't think the "3 Issues a year" makes 31st December the hard and fast (and very likely to be missed!) deadline for I14.

Issue 12 came out on 12th March this year, so I14 any time before that date next year would get them under the wire.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I read this after I commented on the other post. that is a really odd logic.

Talk about being correct on a technicality.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Hardly; if they'd released I12 on 1st December, at the same time saying "we plan to do 3 issues/year from now on" would you have expected 2 more releases by the end of the month?

The "two more releases before 1 year is up" interpretation fits the words, and would seem a bit more realistic.
  25. FWIW I've seen others report a similar problem from time to time (like once every 3-ish weeks) for ages. AFAIK always fixed after support were brought in.
