As a way to display the writers' efforts, I'd like to point to a roleplaying storyline currently reaching its conclusion over on my home server of Protector.
This plotline, fruit of many weeks of concerted effort, is also used as a general guide for a full day of activities, most of which are tied into the story in some fashion.
There are close to 20 people involved in running these activities, and the ongoing story itself is the work of 5 different authors so far. As the one doing my best to coordinate this event, it's been a heck of a ride.
Eventually the complete story will be uploaded somewhere in one lump, but you can follow the userbar link in my signature to check it out right now and catch the end of it.
Impressions are welcomed. -

- Second - 60M inf
- Third - 40M inf
Please note that there will be a list posted soon, detailing who donated to this event. Currently, we are planning on distributing 13.5 billion inf, as well as the miscellaneous costume codes, IOs, recipes, and the custom doll(s).
This list may change before the actual event on July 9 (most likely by adding even more prizes). Feel free to ask any questions here, whether on event details or specifics about prizes, and we will answer them. -

I'll be on a flight back to Canada on July 8, and the date for the P.E.R.C. contest was chosen as a "kickoff" to Day of Vigilance, as well as for practival reasons. -

This is my biggest concern about Freedom by far.
I've been arguing that same point elsewhere.
I've been coordinating the Mentor Project (link in my sig) since it's creation with a mindset identical to what Dech expressed here, and I can't help but say "well said". I would argue that the 150+ mentors who have signed up so far would agree with that sentiment as well.

The way we do our mentoring / assisting may change and adapt to how the game evolves, but one thing remains the same: new players can always use another friendly person to talk to.
If you haven't done so yet, please join the "N P C" global channel and use the application form on the first page if you'd like to be officially recognized in the chan.
The channel may not be active all the time, but that is expected as its role is turning more into a "teachers lounge" than a "welcome hall for new arrivals". That is simply a normal development since trial (and soon Free) players cannot access global chans, and the Helper System's impact on how mentors operate.
In fact, it's better to see the Mentor Project as an extension of the Helper System now, where one can go to seek information they may not have from the other mentors. ;-)

Well, I think we've definitely got an infrastructure to handle an influx of new players.
The Helper system, our own Mentor Project, our global channels, various tools we now have at our disposal like the calendar, Twitter and now Ventrilo will ensure we have not only the means to assist new players, should they come over to Protector, but also keep allowing the VIPs (old and new) to keep in touch.
But, perhaps just as importantly, IDF boots!

To expedite the handling of the Character Design Panel, to be held during the Day of Vigilance on July 9 (2pm eastern), please post here in this thread any questions you would like to see answered, or send them to my attention at stalemate.v6@gmail.com. Your forum or global handles will be used when the question is asked.
Questions submitted here will take precedence over any questions asked during the actual event, in case time becomes an issue.
