Thanks everyone for the feedback, I really only took this on to keep from getting rusty. And it's been ages since I drew something fun... well no that's not true, I did this about 2 months ago from an older piece I did 2 years ago.
Point is, while critiques are welcome, I'm not asking for them... I just wanta a) give back to the community, and b) draw something cool.
Here's my rundown so far:
1) Replete
2) Siberian Knight
3) Feral Kat
4) Marvel Maiden
5) Sithius
6) Mr. Shock
As I see it, my list for who's next is this:
8) Missy K
9) DonnchadH
10) Migrayne
11) Radey Ayte
12) Mr. Majesty
13) Mistress Vine
14) Bayani
15) and then the big kahuna, TA.
Sad to say I'm not gonna take anymore requests for now... I do have a day job, and the Missus is none to happy I am not drawing cowgirls. Besides that list alone will keep me busy for a month. Thanks again for all the feedback, I love COH!
LJ aka Bobby

Wow >< Feral looks awesome in that pic. I didn't see this stuff before <;.;> too busy poutin lol (dun mind me <x,x> I'm depressive)
But anyway <,< as I was gonna say - I really like that pic; especially the way you did the boots; and the background; both quite excellent! The only thing I notice >.> and I really really don't know how to tell you to improve it <;.;> but; she feels... slightly 'lumpy' somehow; I *think* its the outline.
Not really sure how to tell you to fix that though >.> and hell, it could just be me seeing it the wrong way <,< wouldn't be the first time.
Excellent stuff <^.^> I shall lurk in teh presence of greatness <. .> *lurks* -

That was my preference too honestly <_ _>; but I was told it clogged the forum.

well that cinches it , I'm definitely getting rid of my sketchdump since they seem to be something forced on folks by some shadowy cabal of art forum dictators
[/ QUOTE ]
It wasn't any kind of shadowy cabal, it was just me.
I made a suggestion to several posters that instead of posting every single sketch in a new thread...they might want to make "sketchdump" threads...for some of their work. Numerious posters had already done so.
It was just a suggestion. The Forum Cartel will not disapear you if you don't follow it.
However, just think... if everyone here posted every sketch in a new thread...an artists most recent masterpiece would be pushed down to page 3 within a day. It would also make it much harder to see an artists progression or to compare their new work with their older stuff.
Finally, it would mean far more threads to search through every day to see the new stuff! What is the single biggest time waster when forum diving? It is not reading through lots of posts...you can skim those...the biggest time waste is opening and closing threads! Many more threads means MUCH more wasted time to see all the new posts.
But do what you want.
[/ QUOTE ]
>.> well, I wasn't meaning it quite like that; err dammit <_ _> Now I feel worse.
I dunno; for me, my sketchdump has been completely barren of comments and even when updated is on page 3 by the end of the day; I don't know if its because I suck; or if its because its a sketchdump. It seems to get plenty of views... but no comments. Then again I shouldn't be taking away from LJ's time in the spotlight >.< sorry <feeling sorry for self, don't mind me >.> -

TA, have i mentioned that you having a real job and all this money to blow on art really bums me and my college-drained wallet out?
that said, that is really really really really really really really really really really cool art work
[/ QUOTE ]
Dittoing this on all counts lol -
[ QUOTE ]
Personally, I prefer a new thread per piece. New threads mean new dialog. When there's an art dump going on that's 16 pages long, I rarely pop into them.
[/ QUOTE ]
That was my preference too honestly <_ _>; but I was told it clogged the forum.

LJ, I love that second pic - just wanted to mention that; I'd have more comments; but I'm not feeling so hot; but I wanted to make sure to mention that because I think the perspective and pose are both quite nice. -

"Artistic Talent - Can it be learned?"
I'm going to re-state your question in the way I believe you intended it, "Can anyone learn to draw?"
Yes, anyone can learn to draw (barring physical limitations, etc). While some people possess more aptitude, or practiced more, or were encouraged more, I strongly believe ANYONE can learn to draw.
[/ QUOTE ]
/agree
I mean, look at the people on these boards... you can see the progress in some of us <@_@> I used to *never* do color work... ever since some of the people here (Especially The_PMD) explained some photoshop basics... I can work in color <o.@>!
My lineart has improved drastically in the last 5 years as well; if I showed you some of my old stuff... you'd laugh. I'm not "talented"... but yet, I'm getting better constantly. I'm not the best by any means, and I doubt I ever will be - part of that is my narrow focus though; and my lack of self-discipline; others who put their whole selves into their art though... you can see it.
Drawing is a craft as much as something like woodworking - its very complex; and it is a very unique craft... you can't measure every little angle and whatnot; but just the same; you *can* learn it as long as you have the desire and patience.
In fact, thats what I think the *true* definition of "talent" is; ever notice alot of the people we hear called "Very talented" in various areas, have been doing it since they were 5 or 6 years old? >.>
Dedication, encouragement, a desire to improve... those are what makes someone talented; nobody starts at the top (If they tell you they did, they're lying). -
An unfinished piece - Working on it as we speak: (Gasp - actually based on CoX too! <,<
I give you my first ever 'landscape' albiet... its not a painting, nor a real landscape of any variety but...
Nemesis Mountains - WIP
The idea for this came from a thread a month or so ago where someone wanted a pic of "Nemesis' Flying Steam City"
Well... Aaron 123 beat me to that goal <^,~>m (I was far too busy at the time to have even tried it - and I rather liked what he came up with too!); So I decided "Well... what would a mountain range under Nemesis' direct control look like?"
And that's where I got the idea <@_@>
I may add more detail... not sure... the idea is that Nemesis has turned these mountains into a base/factory complex, you can't see it, but its a ravine with a river cutting through the bottom of it - thus all the Nemesis stuff is on the hills.
I intend to color and shade it >.> so this is just the pencils. I may ink it by hand like I did my last pic too... I rather enjoyed how that one came out. -
*WOW* I love it! <O.O>; Beautiful.
-
Having just looked it up... I'm not sure I can offer any advice still >.> but uhhh... I hope I haven't been busting my hump working by hand for nothing <-.->; (Actually <,< I love working by hand; I doubt I could fully do art on a comp >.> but thats me!)
-
Never have heard of it >.> What is it? Just curious really <. .>;
-
Nice job <@_@> Lol, I like it <,<b

I can't freaking BELIEVE that.
Well...I can believe it but it SUCKS. What a dick. Everyone start checking e-bay.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yeah... good grief <_ _> Some people. Sorry this happened to them, that's just not right. -
Very cool work <o.@>; I like his face, he reminds me of Edward from Full Metal Alchemist <@_@> just facewise I mean.
-
no kidding lol <'x'>
I don't really have a favorite album >.> I like everything, Load, Black, ...and Justice for All are probably tied for my favorites though. >.>
<'x'> Now, back to your regularly scheduled topic! -
Yeah <;.;> St. Anger wasnt bad hehe >.<; Its not my favorite album <,< but I still love the band. I know farrrrrr too many people who just have this "Metallica after the Black Album is terrible" mentallity; and it drives me up the walls >.<
I like everything from Kill em All through St. Anger; even though St. Anger is my least favorite I still have several songs I liked on it >.< (in particular, the Unnamed Feeling, and St. Anger)
But there are some people... <;.;> /sigh (I can't talk music with anyone in my SG <,< -
Some of my favorites >.>
Blue Oyster Cult - Astronomy
Metallica - Astronomy
Both excellent songs, both significantly different (not as divergent as some - but still different).
Some people will hate me for this next one... but hey >.> its my opinion.
The Who - Behind Blue Eyes
Limp Biskit - Behind Blue Eyes
I like both - even though the latter is quiteeeeee different. Some people will hate me for that >.> then again, some'll hate me just for liking Metallica at all... so... oh well!
Genesis - Land of Confusion
Disturbed - Land of Confusion
>.> I like the Disturbed version alot; the Genesis version I waffle on though.
I could go on >.>; but then again <,< that's just me -

He's got potential, but redraws of other people's work isn't using that potential.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, if they're done freehand, they absolutely can be. Copying the work of established artists is a time-honored tradition that dates back at least hundreds of years. And, if you're going to copy, Mignola is a damn good choice, especially if you want to examine interesting ways to use chiaroscuro in a comic book style. But copies should never be passed off as original work. The Masters always said "after (artist being copied)" and that's a fine way to do it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Same is true in prose and poetry as well - sadly, we've come to a... 'unique' place in art and writing today.
A great many people have ceased to see the value in copy work when its done freehand - *especially* when done 'similar to' but not "identical"; this I think is why people are more reluctant to blantantly say "This is a redraw of...".
Its also why, while in former times re-using a plot was considered good form if it was done well and you brought something new to the idea - these days it can get you sued, or at least simply called a 'ripoff'.
Keeping in mind, I speak specifically of situations where the new artist has not just copied - but also expanded or added to the original concept in some way... (I personally love cover-songs for example, because a truely good musician can sing an old song in a new way, and that gives it a different 'twist'.)
Of course, even with all that - credit must be given where credit is due; I suspect the individual in question wasn't attempting to rip anyone off though; more likely the thought simply slipped their mind just saying "Hey, check out what I did!", and didn't think to say "I drew this from <insert picture>." I've done it before myself, which is without a doubt embarassing.
I agree with everyone who's said they don't look like they're by the same person though; even people who draw in several vastly different styles retain a few things between them; and more importantly - there's basic knowledge missing in the bottom one that the first two show. Which is just a matter of time and practice to acquire of course.
I'm not precisely sure why I felt the need to say all that but bear with me <x.x>; it uhh... felt good to actually contribute to a discussion for once! -

back in the good old days we didn't have no capes or weapons? the scrappers used to be martial arts, spines, and claws?
the web grenade was horrifically broken in the early days? /dev blasters would kill +8's with just the grenade?
[/ QUOTE ]
Um...how early are we talking here? AFAIK, Scrappers always had the same powersets they have now. The capes part is correct.
And unless I'm missing a piece of CoH history, I think you mean Smoke Grenade.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unless he's talking Beta... I guess... >.> I've been around since one month after release <,< Smoke Grenade was indeed stupidly broken; we didn't have capes...
But we *DID* have Katana (using the same animations as BS), Broadsword, Martial Arts, Spines, Claws and Dark Melee all.
>.> Unless he means beta, which is all I can think of, since I wasn't around back then. -
Hehe >.< I'd thought about adding an ear... I forgot though; since I usually do catgirls <x-x> /sigh
Thanks Sarrate hehe >.< -
I think it was Mantid who posted it; maybe search for him by name? (just a guess)
-
<;.;> So pretty.
-
An UPDATE?! HERE!? ZOMG!
The world has ended.
Ok not quite >.>
I've been putting my bits of spare time together and working on this for a couple weeks; just a little at a time. Its not as good as I'd hoped (for one I can't find a way to make the shadows "blend" together; so they're a tad flat /sigh) - still; its only my third color piece and imho the best of the three (Also the only one remotely finished).
I'd planned to add a background (hell, maybe I will yet); but for now I just left it. Spent too much time with the piece atm <X_X>;;; Anyway, this is the moment nobody's been waiting for! I give you - Ayanei
Who, for the sake of lawsuit avoidance, is not a CoH character really >.> I made her once in CoX with a much different look; but this is the 'real' version; from a manga script I wrote a couple years back (and am probably going to do some heavy editting on).
/sigh I should probably do some 'real' CoX artwork or move to a different site... but this place is too comfy <~.~>; Likely do my kheldian soon though; so I guess that'll make up for things >.>
Sorry for rambling uhh... squirrel hasn't slept in 2 and a half days <X-x> (and only part of that's because of the double xp weekend <,<
Anyways, as usual; lemee know what you think - likes? Dislikes? Monkies? We don't do monkies around here really... but...
Err... <passes out> <X_X>b -
I love Magma Roc and Earth Arrow lol ><
The cigar on Magma is just priceless... and Earth Arrow makes me think of Marvin the Martian <@_@>; -
That sucks Juggertha <;.;> /comfort Still; you're that much closer! <^_^>
And thanks everyone <,< I'm excited hehe >_< Its been ages slowly inching toward that goal lol >< I'm an altoholic to the nth degree; if I didn't have a character as important to myself as Yumii (I mean... you guys have even seen several drawings of her <,<, I posted a new costume when I did that... this char's been around over 6 years now <'x'> I've drug her through many an MMO) - if it weren't for that <,< and weren't for this double xp weekend; I'd never have made it hehe >,<
Hopefully I can get back to my art now <@_@> I have a pic *just* about done; working on blending the shadows and figuring out a background >,<; (I inked it by hand too <'x'>; I'm really happy how it came out; well hell, I'll just show you tomorrow or the day after <,<My time for... well everything, is really limited right now >_<; but I've been scraping together what I can for my art.
Now if I can just find time to write too <x.x> /sigh; oh well, all things pass in time! -
I agree with Rox's comments hehe <^_^>
And I'll add this -
OMGWTHBBQSOFREAKINGCOOL
<. .> That is all.

Ok not really <,<
That's awesome stuff <O_O> Great work!
I think you get the most points on this one for pose imho - its well done; and he looks dangerous dammit <O_O>; Plus you did the staff wonderfully. -
I *just* got 50 tonight... I had no idea that that was there! >,< omg <;.;> I missed it...
I guess I too shall have to do it all over... darn <^,~>
