<;.;> did you have to bring THAT into play?

<goes and sulks in the corner thinking "I am worthless as an artist! <T.T> (Sorry <,&lt
  2. Hmm... I really like the idea of this piece >_< But Rowr's face... is bothering me somehow. Its probably just me though >.<

    Love the way you did the snake though >,> and the way they're fighting. Sorry I can't be more help ><;
  3. Laz you just posted the same thing in three different threads <o,o>;
  4. Your linkies are busted <;.;>

    I used to take requests - but my time of late has been very limited <;.;> Plus I'm not so good; though I'm glad to see someone feeling brave enough <'x'>;; If time allows I may give it a shot if you like; but I can't promise anything <~_~>;
  5. Given the problems with my last version of this character - ie: she looked nigh identical to Rei Ayanami from Evangelion (I was sad; but I'd noticed it myself <;.;> so whatcha gonna do?)

I decided to take another stab at drawing her. I think I gave her a unique look <^-^> and, I Inked it too! I'm actually really enjoying inking... even though I'm not so good at it yet.

Well anyway, I'll let you all judge for yourselves <^,^>

    Yuriko - Inks

The background was more detailed... but when I inked it, I goofed up several times, so I photoshopped out some mistakes >.> it just left the background a bit empty. I'm hoping if I do a color version, it'll improve a great deal in that regard.

Still coloring my Nemesis piece too... but thats... proving difficult. However, tis a topic for another post! <,<

(Oh - last thought >.> Its supposed to be sorta a portrait; and the character herself is... well... she has all the emotional depth of a hunk of lead. Thus the impassivity... I want to give her an action shot sometime - but this was just to establish "Wth does she look like!?")

Ok so really <,< whatcha think? <'x'> Good? Bad? Squirrel stop posting you suck? <,<
  6. I think this is a good guide for playing a "natural human" for sure ^^

I will however, also agree with those saying that there is a great deal more to the Natural origin than you are allowing for - even if they game itself didn't agree with us - in a comic book sense if you can justify it, it works.

That said, as someone else mentioned - quality of backstory is important in this.

Example - My level 50 is a Katana/SR natural character. She has no travel power - and doesn't have fitness because one of her big weaknesses is... she's operating at an incredible level of speed and power for a normal person - so she wears out easily.

She's also a catgirl; its just how she was born, with cat ears and a tail. Its not a mutation, because her parents, and their, parents, and their parents parents going all the way back to their oldest known ancestors had this trait.

Thats one thing people have to remember about CoX origins - they overlap *constantly*.

Batman to use an example, could be Natural or Tech quite easily. He's totally capable without his gadgets - but he has an absolutely enormous number of them, and uses them to great effect - the point where he couldn't survive some situations without them.

Here's another way to look at things; notice DO enhancements how they overlap with 2 other things potentially?

Natural overlaps with Magic and Tech.

The reasoning, is that a hero with a magic sword could be classified as Magic OR Natural. It could be either, depending on how dependant on that item you want them to be. Is the sword just handy? Or is it what gives them all their abilities? Are they still able to fight without it? Or are they helpless?

Same goes for tech. Is a character with an assault rifle Natural, or Tech? I guarantee a rifle isn't a natural part of the human body (for that matter - neither is a sword); but you can of course claim that most of the power resides in the person (aiming, running, dodging, etc...)

A sword is in fact, a form of very very basic technology - so technically a sword weilder using no high tech gadgets or anything (if you really wanna stretch it) could be tech based. Most people don't think of it that way - but it can be done; and logically so.

So yes - excellent post ^^ I merely wish to expand your view of the origins en total.

  9. Lol <~_~> dammit... every time I get a little better in my own work (I've been drawing much of today - proud of what I've got going too); someone comes and blows the living crap out of it <,<

I *love* the way you did this >< Not only is your drawing skill superb imho... but the composition and your eye for detail are both incredible as well >.<m Thats one thing I love about this forum - there are so many styles represented <@_@> everyone' s so.. unique!

Main thing I would probably do is turn the sword some more so the flat of the blad lies flat against the shoulders. Right now the blade would be cutting in unless she can't be hurt by it. Even then it's likeley to be uncomfortable on a focused point like that.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Actually if you look at it again the flat part of the blade is on her back....no cutting from what I can see. Nice job pep!!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Yeah thats what I saw too hehe <^_^>

I love this one Pep <@_@> I'll see if I can figure out anything wrong with it but... right now I'm liking it just as-is! <^_^> can't wait to see the finished version (Love the oversized sword!)

It is my sad duty to inform everyone that August will be my last month with City of Heroes and City of Villains.

I am taking over community management of Tabula Rasa full-time as of Sept. 1st. Cricket will be your primary community person when Sept. 1 rolls around and I will no longer accept PMs as of that date.

I just wanted to take a second and thank everyone for all their support and kind words over the last two years. Even in the darkest hours I could always count on there being a few bright posts, emails or PMs in my inbox. These kept me going more than coffee ever could and they always brought a smile to my face.

I also want to thank everyone who has ever created well thought out, constructive post/PM. I know bugs or other game issues can be frustrating at times, but a community person's best friend is the player who takes that little extra step to research and document their issue while keeping it about the issue, and not about Statesman's momma.

Special thank you's to all the staff both here at NCsoft and at Cryptic for all your hard work, for answering questions and for listening to community concerns. Staff may not always agree - but they [u]always[u] listen.

Finally, thanks to you - the community. This has been a great community to work for and be a part of for the last two years and it's very hard leaving such a wonderful group of people. You are so intelligent, passionate, creative, funny and charming that it amazes me every day. And despite how it may appear on the surface sometimes - you all care for each other deeply and are always ready to lend a helping hand to those less fortunate. You are true heroes and there is no Paragon City without you. It has been my honor to serve you.

    <_ _> /em mourn

I hope you'll still pop in on us now and again Cuppa <;.;> you've been one of the coolest community people I've ever dealt with, heck, THE coolest, and I've been playing MMOs since EQs Kunark expansion Ie: quite awhile.

I'm sure I'll have more words to add later but... wow... <_ _> tis a bleak day.
  12. Graver... You do amazing work - and I think you just outdid yourself <x.x> <@_@> That pic is so beautiful its... well...

Put it to you this way - I'm a writer as much as visual artist - and my massive vocabulary has utterly failed in trying to describe this.

Great great work Graver >< I *love* the mixture of "Happy" and "Cheery" with "Grim" and "Brutal" <,< it just... its an amazing dichotemy... I'm trying to find *anything* to critique but uhh... not seeing it d<. .>b two squirrely thumbs way way up!

Nymie, I've done as you've asked and looked at the picture with a critical eye. I believe that I have found something "off". This picture is reminiscient of the poster from the movie "Striptease", and I think it's a good concept. However, I think that you've made the girl's torso too long just so you could show her breasts. If she had a wider torso, in relation to the length of it, it would work. It just appears that she does not have enough mass to her to wrap around her leg to grab her other ankle, not without seriously hunching her body further and blocking her breasts.

Take a look at this picture from the movie and see my point, I hope. example

That's just my two cents, take it to heart or don't. But overall, this is a very nice piece. Keep up the good work.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And WHY would you compare CoX art with something you saw on PPV?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because its an accurate pose comparison? <o.O> I mean it *is* just about the same pose; not identical; but very close - and given the lack of clothing in the pic, it keeps the attention focused on anatomical detail. Thus - it makes perfect sense ^^

I really like that Nymie <^_^> Especially the socks, the hat, and the pose.

I do have one thing I notice though >.> Her face - as some have mentioned; is a bit flat; but her neck feels a bit fat in the upper section above the collar too.

Other than that, this could be really cool colored <^_^>m

Yep! <^_^> This is a much improved version; I like it! (And I liked the original - but this is a significant boost up!) Good job!
  19. Sorry hehe <~_~> bit hypersensitive the last few days; trying not to be though! I go through times like this <x-x> when I'm really in a creative mood... I'm also very easy to mess up <x,x>; I should probably have mentioned that somehwere before lol; I'm just a wee bit hard to deal with (I sure try not to be though >.&lt
  20. Ya know... I've been waiting to see something like this! >_< Nice one! <@_@> I'm impressed how well you meshed so many different promos together, I'd never even SEEN the Rikti footage! Good stuff!
  21. Hehe, yeah, we have a great community here - This is the first place outside of college I've gotten critiques because other places have been too intimidating.

Thats the reason I suggested this, because everyone is very helpful here - but quite uplifting too, they don't brutalize you; instead, they'll give you at least one 'I like' along with any negative - and usually the "I likes" far outweigh the "I think you need to..."s

There's a difference between a critique and criticism; a critique is all about constructive criticism; just flat criticism is assessing the value of the work on a basis of whatever scales the critic feels like using. Regular criticism (in my mind) should be reserved for people who are established artists; the kind who are putting out professional stuff on a regular basis etc...

A critique is meant as a learning tool and *should* if done right; be uplifting. I find it far far more depressing to see no comments on a drawing than to have 10 or so 'You could work on" types really >.>

Oh well, anyway, it was just a thought; I'd never heard of this kinda thing being done (my art education is relatively limited; and there was very little ability to draw on someone's work without ruining it - a luxury we have here on the forums); so it was just something I thought about <~.~> anyways
  22. Well, it was just an idea hehe <~_~>

    <boggle> <o.O> Huh? <- doesn't understand
  24. That is really cute Graver <^-^> damn I love your style <;.;> so cool
  25. Well... my *thought* was that we'd do it for other people's work >.>

Like, ok for example; you put out your latest thing right - and as per usual, people see the occasional fiddly-bits, as we do our best to critique eachother so we can grow and get better!

So, instead of just saying "I think your <insert part of pic> is off..." You could copy the pic, then circle the problem area, and describe it... I guess to sort of focus it a little better.

I think it'd also have the added benefit, that for those who maybe aren't as advanced as the person being critiqued and the person giving the critique, of seeing things to look out for even as they grown into their own art skill.

(Example: Say you put out a piece, and DarkJedi saw a tiny thing wrong with it, and circled that thing and explained the problem - not only could you fix it; but those of us who aren't as good, would be able to think "ahh, thats something we should look out for too!")

I dunno <,< it was one of those random 'bolt from the blue' things <,<
