My claws/elec used it last night to grab the redside exploration and history badges. I found it a lot easier exercise than when I did the same run last week using a super jumper. Primarily she'll still be using super speed, but, well, she is Valley Kitten. When she needs to fly, avoid water, and look totally cool doing it? Surf's up, dudes!
Ricki will be using the rocket board frequently, since we both share the same amusement at seeing a night widow in full armor surfing across the Rogue Isles. Tide Shifter will definitely be using it up until he gets pirate ship travel powers.
So, yeah, if its fun and its cool, its rocket board time. Its the little things like this that make me giddy for Freedom. -
Quote:My only problem with farming is with inf inflation, I have no problem with power-leveling or ticket farming. Heck, I did both myself. To each our own. That, Sir, was exactly the point.
As for RP Arcs, I don't see any less of them, because farms exist. I don't see any farmers stating they want to see less RP in AE or in any way stating that AE can't be used the way you're proposing should be the only way it is used.
That said, this was what I had a problem with:
Maybe its just me, but I tend to get itchy when the tone and words of a post state that somehow I don't actually exist. -
Got the one I really wanted: Fire in the Sky.
Also got Valley Kitten and Bane Spider Ricki, but, yeah, it wasn't as if those would be in high demand. -
I saw an WM/EA in Atlas Park on day 1. It was a moving experience.
Maybe even more moving now, I did just open up a name on Virtue and WM/EA would fit... -
Quote:Right backatcha.Funny how what you think isn't always the same as what other people think right?
I mean, obviously, the game should be played the way I think it should be played, right?
Doesn't that mean you're wrong?
EDIT: I've used CEBR out of curiousity and thought it was a nifty way to get a claws/elec to a high level without adding to inf inflation. That said, by and large, I use AE for RP missions with my SGs. We're players just as much as you are, we get a seat at the table too. -
Huh. I'll have to check when I get back home tonight. If so, Valley Kitten will just have to get her future tickets the old-fashioned way.
Though it does leave me wondering. First we find out the devs are tracking inf/XP gain rates via MARTy, then we find out MARTy's no longer shutting anyone down in Live, but now CEBR is a dead farm? Connect the dots, and its an interesting picture. -

Hover board? Check.
Beam rifle? Check.
School backpack? Check.
6 character transfers while ubercheap? Check. Now I have more slots on Virtue for barbarians and laser rifles!
Pocket D badge I never got around to getting? Check. Hello, Tiki Bar!
That turned out to be a bit over my 1600, so I dropped another $15. And that may not last me much longer as I'm chin-stroking over the barbarian pack.
A MMOer and his money is soon parted. -
Quote:If you're dropping $144 right now, odds are pretty good that you're enthusiastic enough about the game and have the pockets deep enough to drop $180 over the next year. That is, of course, presuming that he maintains a monthly sub for the course of a year. He may not. Whereas the $144 up front was pretty much guaranteed. They could get $0, $180, or anything in between.
The loss of $36 per customer plus the loss of customer goodwill equals 'technical problem' to this educated observer.
Quote:Overly simplistic I know. But it doesn't really seem like it's all that hard of a problem to figure out. You would think if it was truly a "technical issue" there would've been more time between knowing it wasn't ready and being allowed to inform us of said issue. -
1.) Start thread by tossing bomb.
2.) Wait for dozen plus pages reacting to said bomb throwing.
3.) Play victim card that nobody is taking topic seriously.
4.) Profit? -
Time to start planning those 'Goodbye Galaxy City' vigils.
I'm hoping this means Transgaming has been beaten into submission and all is (relatively) well in the Mac world? -
Quote:dooooooooooooooooooooomin all honesty, this is never going to affect me. I don't play games that i'm not subscribed to. In my opinion, this entire thread is sound and fury that'll end when everyone gets bored of it without producing any kind of (useful) result. Coh isn't going to change the details of how they handle this. (well, maybe in six to eight months if the game bombs and they start losing money hand over fist ... Of course, at that point, ncsoft is just going to shut the game down, so ...)

Quote:"I'm Blood Widow Ricki, and I approve of this statement."Lord Recluse says: "You are free. Nothing is preventing you from doing what you want except those with more power than you. If you want power, take it: What happens to you next is up to you. There are no rules beyond the rule of the strongest, and you have always fancied yourself as precisely that. Now let's see how good you are. As long as you are strong enough and clever enough there will be nothing stopping you."
In all seriousness, though, you get exactly why the redside arcs are arranged the way they are. Start at level 1, you're just some guy in the Zig who had to have Arachnos bust you out. Or just some faceless Widow or Wolf Spider looking to get one up on all those 'Destined Ones'. Work your way to 50 doing odd jobs for a contact here, bank heists there, punch a few hapless minions who unfortunately crossed your path, take out some otherworldly horrors... and by 50 you're literally handing Recluse his own mask. Now you're big time. When you found power you took it, when someone thought they were stronger you showed them who's the boss, and now you've proven to Lord Recluse himself that you're strong and clever enough that not even his own future self can stop you. Granted, the way the game's set up, it'll still take at least three fellow villains to topple Statesman and his friends, but that's why its a City of Villians and not City of The Villain. -

I swapped the Striker for Power Sink, and toyed with a few of the other IOs. With Hasten and Energize up, she's running at 144% global recharge with 2.2 end over use plus whatever she can yoink from Power Sink. In this case, I imagine it may be mostly for mitigation. I don't remember Scirocco's being too pricey, and I'm not sure what the going rate on Imperviums are either, but I don't think it'd still be too much out of the budget for when my brute hits her patron arc. At the least, I can save the Performance Shifters for last. -
-
Valley Kitten is now at level 32. Another run and she'll clear 100 million in inf. She also has a background and a costume I'm mostly happy with. My plan now is to use CEBR to get her to 40, then do the patron arc, then finish up her redside explorations while doing rogue tips.
Which brings me to the normal play build. While I wasn't surprised at the lack of defense, I was in the lack of Power Sink. I imagine a sacrifice had to be made in the name of damage and recharge, but that's a handy sap to have - especially for a high recharge build that's going to be hammering hard on the blue bar. Granted, having Energize up as often as possible will help with endurance, but is it enough to keep from being stuck on blue skittles? -
Quote:Well, I found both marketing and farming boring, but thanks to Top Doc I've found a nice middle ground. Valley Kitten's run through the arc twice, and already she's sitting on 30 million just from cashing in rare salvage. A few more runs to get her up to a comfy level / inf combo to set up her base IO build, and I can run task forces and tip missions from there. But some people find it boring, like I find farming boring, but this is a fun little side project
It also doesn't hurt that I've been eyeing ElA for a while now, and pairing it with claws on a brute was like combining crunchy peanut butter, jelly, and wheat bread. Just watching her level up makes me eager to see how much fun we can have shredding the high-end content. -
If its a challenge to make it to level 6 and Kings Row, then you have bigger problems than being unable to make the Halloween and Christmas events.
-
The ITF is popular because you can steamroller straight through almost everything and collect inf/drops/shards/XP by the bucketload, with the only battles requiring a minimum of thought being Computer/Requiem/Rommy and Nictus!Rommy and, as an added bonus, all the instances located within less than a half mile of each other in the same zone. For all intents and purposes, the ITF is a high-level task force farm.
-
Ideally, there would be a way to gift a Free player who won a CC some Paragon Points so they can make the jump to Premium. Sure, its real cash, but think of it as an investment to the community.
But I think Giant and Zypoid are right, I don't think Free players will stay Free for long. -
A month or so back, I'm part of a Citadel with my BS/SD scrapper. Being Council cave country, we're having issues trying to keep together but more or less we're sticking without problems. And then we hit one of the central chambers that look like the Normandy defenses as designed by M.C. Escher. I think I have support with me as I go leaping into a spawn, I'm pretty sure I saw a green name nearby for the first minute. Nobody else though, but that's no problem. I'll just finish these guys off and go find the rest of the team.
There's just one problem. We never cleared the room, and I'm sitting there with AAO shouting to every mob in the room 'FRESH MEAT', and I'm stuck in a corner. So more Council piles on. Still more. And I'm still standing and hacking them down, thinking this will be the last wave.
Turns out the rest of the team had speed run to the end, I see 'Mission Complete' while I'm hacking away knee deep in fallen Council. And none of the team is there with me. I'm still swinging when the TF leader starts the next mission, by that point I still had almost finished them off.
It was at that point I fell in love with my BS/SD. Now if I could just get her off of her endurance addiction. -
On one hand, I don't think I'd ever run Keyes without having a quick self-heal. My widow has Aid Self, so she's run it a couple times and succeeded - somehow. When I can't see running it with my Invulnerability toons, then I know there's a problem. Undefendable and unresistable 50% damage on a wide open map is, uh, yeah, bad. I hope its a lesson the devs have taken to heart for upcoming iTrials.
On the other hand, said widow has run a bunch of other trials and has T3s in everything except a still locked Destiny. (I'm still IOing her out, so I'm saving inf for that instead of converting threads.) If I feel like running an iTrial, the option is there, so I'll go and run it if I want. If I don't, I don't. I don't feel the need to completely trick my 50s out as soon as they unlock the Alpha, heck I don't even have that many 50s to begin with.
The thing is the option is there to run iTrials and pick up the goodies if I want. I like having that option. If I don't, oh well, there's plenty else to do around the game.
And that, I think, is why CoH has been the MMORPG for me and not most other MMOs: There is no pressure to do anything in-game other than the pressure you put on yourself. -
-
I'd say, lose the 30' radius and team size altogether and just give Stalkers a base 30% chance to crit. Boom. Little muss, little fuss, cottage rule is happy, and they're now all-around slightly better damage-wise than scrappers - if the RNG is happy with you.
