True this. It's not a recent bug, been around at least several months. I too have noticed an O portal some distance away will interrupt, it doesn't necessarily need to be right next to you, although I'm not sure what the min/max distance is that will cause the interrupt.

Long activation I gather is to avoid using/abusing the power for "Oh crap" purposes.

But, yeah, it's extremely annoying when I'm using either my mission porter or base porter, only to be interrupted halfway through by somebody dropping an O portal.
  3. Hmm, let me think.

    1. Villain side Hami raid ever.
    2. Hero Hami raid since it was re-vamped
    3. Master LRSF (although I've done multiple regular runs)
    4. Calvin Scott TF
    5. Haven't leveled a Brute (49), Dominator (42), or SoA (33) to 50 yet.
    6. Haven't utilized the 2nd build option

That's all I can think of off the top of my head. Just recently dinged 63 month vet status myself, and think I've pretty much experienced everything in the game apart from the above.

To the OP, with respect to Hess and Lady Grey Task Forces, these are two of the best TFs in the game IMO, and are run with some regularity (at least on Champion where I call home). I highly recommend you run them when you get the chance.

    Oil Slick Bug ?

TA is one of the few sets I have never played in this game, but I recall hearing about this bug years ago in game and on these forums. Quite surprised to hear it's still around.

Heh. She'd get awfully lonely, wouldn't she?

To threadjack slightly, I've always wanted the ability to add NPCs in my base, for example a few scientists in white lab coats carrying clipboards. Maybe they could even have some customizable banter that would randomly execute.

To the specific suggestion regarding WW/BM access from the base, I wholeheartedly /sign!

With all the resources being poured into Going Rogue, I'm really hoping bases are getting some kind of love in there somewhere.
  6. Haven't played my thugs/dark in ages, but a few thoughts I can offer:

    1. I took the flight travel power.

    2. I took the leadership pool, and found it extremely useful.

    3. I only took one pistol attack (not sure which one off the top of my head). I recall having more at one point, but respecced all but one out. Between managing the actions of your henchmen, and all the useful /dark tools at your disposal, the pistols attacks were simply superfluous for the most part, although keeping one was helpful for "filler" purposes.
  7. Great run, Beetle. Thanks for the shiny new badge!

Maybe it was a bug, but if not, then this is huge. Probably even game breaking. If it was indeed an exploit, then I'm boned because I was reading the hell out of that newspaper. If they take away my Illusionist badge though, I'm quitting and heading straight for Super Mario Brothers Online. If they didn't want us reading the damn newspaper, then they shouldn't have given us the emote in the first place.

  10. Bank -- yes, please. Having an account-wide vault, or bank, that characters can access would be a very convenient feature. Personally, I would probably make little use of it, as I currently rarely ever transfer inf between characters. I use my base to transfer crafted items. But, I've played WoW (no longer). I've played Tabula Rasa (RIP). I also now play Aion. This feature seems to be a MORPG standard item based on my (albeit limited) experience. I suspect this feature would make newer players to the game feel a bit more at home. Personally, I always thought they could have made the existing (and nearly useless IMO) e-mail system more robust in this regard, by adding the ability to attach influence, enhancements, salvage and recipes to outgoing e-mails.

Server merge -- no, thanks. For all the good reasons already stated.

I was just starting to craft enhancements with that toon, and I accepted hoping that the base would at least have a decent workshop. Turns out it was a small and not very active group, but the base did have a workshop as well as a full set of teleporters and a med bay, so I was happy. I ended up playing that toon a lot, and before long I was one of the most active and highest prestige earners in the group.

Then one day I went to the base and found mostly empty rooms—it seemed the group leader had decided to redesign the whole base from scratch. No problem, I was willing to be patient and go without certain amenities until he finished. Sadly, he only got as far as filling a few rooms with mostly decorative items and then never came back. Eventually, he was gone long enough to be auto-demoted and I logged in to find that I had been auto-promoted to group leader. By this time, nearly everyone in the group who had been even semi-active had long since bailed.

It’s now been over 2 months since the former leader last logged in. I have no idea if he’s ever coming back. I’ve paid the base upkeep and got the workshop functional again. I’d like to do more—mainly, replace all the transporters that were removed. Unfortunately, the former leader spent so much prestige on expensive decorative stuff that I think I’ll have to sell some of it to get back all the teleporters the base once had.

What are the protocols in a situation like this? Am I out of line making major changes to the base? Or is it reasonable to feel that it’s now mine to do with as I wish? The original owner may one day return intending to reclaim his base, and might be angry if it’s not the way he left it. On the other hand, he did abandon the base after stripping it of everything useful, I'm not sure how he could blame me for wanting to restore it. I wouldn’t dream of touching the base had he left it in the fully functional condition it was in when I first joined. And he is welcome to have it back anytime he should return. I’m just not sure I want to wait forever to get teleporter capacity back.

So I’d like some advice. What do you think is appropriate in a case like this? What would you do?
First of all, prestige in a super group is never lost. Items purchased can always be re-sold in the base editor for full value. If a player quits an SG, the prestige stays with the SG. The only exception is if membership in the SG falls below 15, whereby 20K prestige per member below 15 is lost.

My point being, go ahead and fix up that base to your liking, since it can always be changed back if need be.

Personally, my feeling is that the SG is now yours. The leader did not log in for 45 days, and had no alts either logging in during that time. It also sounds like there were no other members playing or logging in regularly. I would consider the SG abandoned. It's yours. Happy birthday.

  14. Nice run, Beetle. Easily the most efficient STF I've ever been on. Unfortunately, we had a death in the last mission.

Fun run, though, and looking forward to another attempt next week.

If you don't have one of those, you can go to the store and get a copy of the Architect edition disk (updated to issue 14) for usually around $20. That'll also get you a free month that you can add to your existing account ($15) and your choice of the Magic or Cyborg booster packs ($10). Costs some money, but only $5 you weren't originally going to spend more so not TOO bad (if you exclude the booster packs...if you were, you make $5).
    This.

I picked up the AE version for $24.95 CAD when it came out, for a couple of reasons:

    1. The booster pack
    2. An up to date install disk

Those two reasons alone made the net $10 cost for the purchase well worth it. To the OP, give your specific circumstances, this would probably be a good route to go. Even with the time taken for a trip to the store, it would still probably be faster than either downloading, or patching up from an old install disk.

  17. Excellent. Been waiting for this announcement for a couple weeks now, and pleased to see it come on a weekend I will be able to avail myself of the double rewards.

Time to grind out that last influence badge!
  18. Yes, I confirm I will be bringing my level 50 Peacebringer. She is a human/nova build, designed for pure damage output, IO'ed-out with multiple purple sets. Oh, and she's squishy as hell.

(While I have been working on a human/dwarf version for her alternative build, it's a work in progress and nowhere near ready for 'prime time' ).

  23. Hoping someone can assist me.

I patched up this morning to issue 16 without problem, and the game loaded normally to the login screen. I logged in as usual and made it to the server selection screen. This is where my problems begin.

Upon selection of a server, the game totally locks up. The lock up is so sever that the game does not error out after a period of time -- it's totally locked up. Furthermore, I cannot close the game through the system manager (Alt-Ctl-Del). I must completely reboot the computer to clean things up. I also cannot engage other applications during lock up. For example, it will take several minutes for a simple web page to load.

I attempted to log in three times with the same problem. After the third attempt, I took the following actions:

    1. First, I updated my video card drivers -- updated to a July/2009 driver from a February/2009 driver (ATI RADEON X850).

    2. Second, I upgraded to the latest version of Direct X.

    3. Third, I downloaded all critical Windows updates.

    4. Fourth, I checked to see if my computer motherboard had any driver updates (it didn't).

After steps one through three, I attempted to log into CoH, each time running into the same locking up.

I've tried everything my limited technical knowledge would suggest.

Any more tech savvy folks out there who could lend a hand?

    Cheers...

    Working As Intended.

Also, I always low-ball bid when items for sale exceed existing bids. More often than not, you'll acquire your item in short order at a substantially lower price than the last five bids.

I would suggest you start with scrappers. Speaking from personal experience, in my early days in this game (circa 2004), I found scrappers allowed a robust playstyle (team or solo), good survivability, and they cut a swath of destruction before them.

If I were to suggest a specific build, roll a broadsword/regen scrapper.

Play the scrapper for a few weeks, then experiment with other builds. As a player with multiple 50s across all ATs, I can confidently state they're all fun. But, playing a scrapper is probably the best way to ease yourself into the game, like an old man into a bathtub.

    Welcome to CoX!
