Quote:I'm in agreement with Samuel on this one. I have no problem with self-resurrection powers. I liken it to automobile insurance.Rise of the Phoenix was actually a power in Fiery Aura at launch, before Epics were introduced in I3, which were then largely put together from existing powers with minor alterations.
Personally, I enjoy self-rez powers. I wouldn't mind it if every set had one. I don't understand why people keep complaining about them. Yes, they are powers that you can only use when you die. Well, you WILL die sooner or later, no matter what, so it makes sense to have a power to use them. It's kind of like complaining about heals because getting damaged means you're weak and not surviving well enough. Personally, when I die I'm angry because I've failed and because I have to walk back from the hospital. With a self-rez power, I'm not actually defeated until I'm dead AND I can't use my resurrect power, and the situations when I die twice in a row or twice very fewquently are quite infrequent. And especially with Rise of the Phoenix doing so much damage, I have to say I like the power.
I can complain that the only time to use automobile insurance is when I get in a car accident... but if/when I DO get in an accident, I'm sure glad I have it.
The only time I don't like having a self-resurrection power is when I fall in the middle of the mob where they normally stand. If I know I'm going to die, I do my best to run as far as I can away from their standing point so that when I use the power, I don't stand up within their aggro range. (Especially if there is no teammate with Recall Friend). -
Quote:I can't argue this... Fury has no proof. You have zero proof that your story is true and it reeks of incredibility and praise-seeking attention.
Quote:One of my RL friends that I normally play with has 2 FF users at lvl 50, a FF/Psi and a Mind/FF. Because we are so close we regularly switch accounts and play each other's characters to get a broader sense of the game.
Quote:I for one can not condone such behavior and am frankly disappointed that the defender community blindly praises you for it simply because that is their natural reaction when someone disses another AT.
So, in this scenario, are you the pot or kettle? -
Just today I tried to "Quit to desktop".... the time countdown DID appear over my character's head...but I remained in the game.
Is there something I'm doing wrong or something I can check... or is anybody else experiencing this problem?
Thanks much! -
Quote:I have to agree here. You're purposely making playing a melee AT not fun anymore by simply using force bubble and you're being a jerk when asked to stop using it. Yes I would have kicked you immediately for such an attitude.
It's MUCH more fun when a defender does NOT use his powers and I, as the melee AT watch helplessly as the 17 or 18 Freakshows I couldn't contain go over to the rest of my team and wipe them all over the floor.
Good times.
/endsarcasm
I would have been grateful for the FF defender to help out a bit... even if I was the tank.
A team is just that... a group of people with the same motivation to reach a common goal... not a group of people there to make sure the melee AT shines in every single battle.
Or perhaps I've been playing wrong these last four years. -
The forums look great and my compliments to those individuals who worked hard to get them up and running.
I'm confident they'll iron out many things (if possible, of course) such as: disabling sig pictures ONLY, login password vs. game password, etc.
Perhaps we just need to give them some time... and in the meantime be grateful we have the forums back up! -
Steelclaw, I truly enjoyed each post of yours in this thread... you did a wonderful job!

<QR>
Gee, Devs, this is all great and all...you giving us an inch.
I guess what many are saying is that we just want a mile?

C'mon folks...
The gift horse has a mouth. Don't look into it. -

Am I to understand that the 5 extra slots for $20....is stackable? So, could I pay $40 for 10 extra slots? -
Posi, I'd like to bear your child.
I know that's biologically impossible... but you have made me an extremely happy gamer with this announcement! And even though Manticore remains my favorite developer...you're running a close second.
God bless you, Posi... and all the developers!
As somebody already said... you all make me want to stay playing this game... and that's a huge compliment!
Take care! -

Best Joke EVER!!!!
They had me right up to the "Sounds being removed" part
I lie. They got me completely. Wasn't till the 2nd post of this thread that the penny dropped
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, that's where I was... I thought, "Bummer... I like the sounds."
Then I looked back at the part where they say "We're rechristening it: Issue 12: Bam, Piff, Boom!" and I went... "Wait a second...something's fishy."
Good one, guys! -

Just a head's up for everyone, we're going to be buckling down to get Issue 12 done...so you may see a lull in redname activity on the forums for a bit. Might not get as many immediate responses to PMs...mailboxes will probably fill up...posts demanding immediate answers will undoubtedly go unanswered

Meanwhile, the world's seals, left alone by the busy devs, are able to multiply in record numbers. The massive seal population becomes emboldened, and starts encroaching on cities across the globe with newfound confidence. Soon seals take over the planet and become the dominant life-form, eclipsing mankind. Humanity becomes extinct, and a rain of seals is visited upon the earth the likes of which has not been seen since the early 1800s.

I recall learning about the Great Seal Invasion of 1804 when I was in 5th Grade U.S. History class.
I had nightmares for weeks! -

We're not ignoring you guys, we just have a bajillion little issues to tie up and we really need to focus on that right now.
On the plus side, marketting on Issue 12 is ramping up..so you should see more official announcements, dev diaries, stuff of that nature very soon.

We trust you, BaB!
Okay, well most of us do!
You're awesome, BaB.... you're no Manticore... but you're still ok in my book. -

Zombie_Man made this point by implying we might start seeing chat messages like this: "LFT, 48 Vets only!"
[/ QUOTE ]
Doubtful, extremely doubtful.
First, there aren't going to be enough 48 month vets to make this a workable recruitment strategy; I couldn't guess how many hours it might take to get eight 48 month vets together on the lower pop servers, and even the higher pop servers won't see this for a long time to come. That's PUGs, of course.
Now if these pets revive moribund old-timer SGs for a while, then I'm all for that.
Second, these little team buffs are not going to be significant unless the team actually does have a lot of 48 month vets, and pretty much all of the pets would have to have the same buff type.
Third, melee vets will probably lose their pets right away. What seems more likely is a call for seven 48-month-vet ranged squishies all with defense fairies and one newbie tank, so the pets don't get wiped out at the start of each battle.
[ QUOTE ]
I honestly believe these Vet Powers are too powerful as a team buffs regardless of who gets them. If that is in fact the Devs' intention you can bet I'm going to exploit them to their fullest potential before they get nerfed. This thing has nerf-bait written all over it.
[/ QUOTE ]
No nerfing is likely as long as the 48 month vet population is very low. And if the 48 month vet population gets very large over time then the pets have done their job as an incentive and they would never, ever nerf a success like that.
[/ QUOTE ]
Even though I won't be getting this Veteran Reward for over a year (with which I'm okay!), I won't join any "48+ month vets only!" teams exclusively... or just because I'm a 48 month vet.
But then again, a major part of why I team is for the social aspect. Sure, the XP is great...but I don't care to team with people who are "defeat all!! no talk! Defeat! Defeat! Defeat!"
No, thank you. -

Great another great thing my money has gone to develop that only less than 1% of the population get to use.
Thanks for nothing.
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, players who have been with the game for 48 months, have placed more money in the system then you have. By your own logic, they SHOULD get rewarded. The longer your put money in the cooler stuff you get. I don't get why people who played the game a short time think they should have access to the same rewards people whove been paying a fee for YEARS should get. Plus anyone who gets this reward has been a loyal COX customer since launch. That may be a small percentage, but its a very important and very loyal percentage. Considering the average MMORPG subscribers sticks around for only a year, four years is phenomenal. And yup I plan on playing for as long as the game is around.
[/ QUOTE ]
Um...No. The fact is that w/o the current subscriber base this game wouldn't even be here. Why shouldn't I recieve whatever everyone else gets. You don't really think subscribtions fees from those who played since day 1 and never took a break is enough to keep this game profitable.
So enjoy your 48th month rewad..but just remember it's all of the current subscribers who helped you get it.
[/ QUOTE ]
You have an April 4th, 2004 reg date, youre getting the reward and pretty soon it looks like.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or, using an extreme example, he registered on April 4, 2004, paid for one or two months, took three years off (without paying), came back and resumed playing.
Reg. date doesn't signify veteran time. -
[ QUOTE ]
I foresee 'long term vet only' teams in the future...
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes, that's a good point.
I can see team leaders being quite picky to choose 4-year vets over non-4-year vets when composing teams.
Ah well. One more year for me to go.
I think it's a pretty cool power and look forward to it. -

I have other uses for my $10.
Including paying for 20 days of Co[H/V] next month. -

I'm lost....what's this thread talking about? I have no such email...
Edit: Ah, nevermind... I see the announcement. -

I can understand frustration, but really it's just one weekend.
I think I wouldn't mind transferring my toons to another server. However, I can't transfer my SG base and all its yummy teleporters.
So, I'm stuck on Virtue and will hope that if I attempt to log on, I'll be able to. -
<QR>
I'm still interested if we're able to do character transfers even if our home server is "locked out".
Have we had an answer on that yet?
I'm almost tempted to get ALL my Virtue characters and pay the $120 to transfer them to a lesser populated server... just so I don't have to deal with any potential future lockouts. -
Jock has truly inspired me... and so I submit an attempt.

As the children of Statesman matured and grew in their world, they realized that those mortals who needed their help most weren't always available... or.... easily available. So, they turned to their father for help.
Statesman, being the kind and yet disciplinarian that he was, didn't want to just give his children the power to summon needy mortals at a whim... or give them the power to instantly appear where, and when, trouble was afoot. So, he introduced his children to one of his friends, Contact.
Now, initially, Defender, Scrapper, Tanker, and their siblings were quite hesitant. Why should they rely on somebody who was not part of their family to aid them? They could just continue to roam the world and, should they happen to come upon mortals needing their help, simply jump in and help.
But this sparked Statesman's wrath:
"How dare you all complain and grieve over not having enough mortals to defend... and when I grant you access to more mortals, you sadden me more with your bickering and groans."
"But Great Father," Kin protested, "not all of us complain. I find the stray viles of this world of use to me, for I simply 'borrow' their speed to roam faster."
Tanker grumbled, "Oh, certainly it's easy for a thief of speed to get around... but there are those of us who are not as nimble."
The two started complaining and grieving more!
"Silence," Statesman boomed through the heavens. "I have had enough! I shall show you the importance of Contact!"
So, Statesman used his supreme nature and forced a great spell upon the mortal viles that plagued the world. They were granted the ability to know when one of Statesman's children were approaching and... should they desire, run in several different directions at once.
Even Kin found this very frustrating and finally, completely exhausted, the children of Statesman succumbed.
"We agree to meet this Contact and see what he has to say to help us."
And there was peace around the planet as Contact was able to use his vast knowledge of fate to show the children of Statesman where adventures could be found.
The harmony wasn't long-lived when the children, spoiled as they were, complained once more...
"Father," grumbled Scrapper. "This Contact is all well and good... but...."
"Speak, child," Statesman said with a voice of pure command.
"However, we grow tired of running back to Contact each time an adventure wanes." At this, they glared at Kin, who knew wise enough to remain quiet.
Statesman sighed. "Very well... I have much to do to grant you all more in the Great Tome of Issues.... and I really do not wish to hear your grumblings much more."
With a whim, the children could feel something mystical appear in their robes. They all dug their hands in with great anticipation and pulled out a spinning blue glowing artifact. They all fell silent at the power that the devices emanated.
"What....what is this," Trick asked in awe.
Statesman beamed proudly. "I call it... simply.... Scanner."

12PM Sunday-Arrive home from church. Don't get undressed. Play CoH in a 3 piece suit the remainder of the day.

Great.
I can start recruiting new players.
Or... CoH can make a kid's version...
The character generator has only pastel color options and no scary face options.
No AR/Dev powerset... and the Illusion powerset has cuddly bear phantasms.
And instead of AVs, the heroes must face against Elite Teachers, Elite Mommies, and Elite Daddies who want to take away their candy or make them go to bed early!
And *drumroll*
The players can make cute little cat characters that speak using bad grammar!
Oh. Wait.
