    Nice Work, Team...
I also am hoping that any recipes I emailed to myself aren't in the ether somewhere.

I emailed them to myself to "store" them for when WW finally came back up.

I don't blame the developers... as problems DO happen.

I hope they get it back and running soon.

    Zandock and Lisa....thank you!

Hmm, I could have sworn I did a safeguard mission and STILL have not received a contact. I'll keep tyring, however.

And I'll also try Lisa's advice.

    My thanks again!

Gavin, thanks for a very thorough "nutshell" version of the merit system. It's greatly appreciated...

I think I need to work on more story arcs!

However... I seem to be stuck. I skipped earlier contacts (went right to radio missions) on my lvl 36 scrapper. Now, he's struggling to get a contact! I thought that eventually a detective will have me meet a contact, but is there a certain trick to get that process going?

    Thanks!
  4. Thank you all for the input.

If I can, I'll try to go with Hasten rather than OWIS.

I currently have the power pools (from memory):

    Fitness
    Leadership (for Manuevers)
    Medicine

so I should be able to get Hasten in there. Whether or not I can get Superspeed is another story. I guess Ninja Run has spoiled me something terribly.

I do appreciate all of your advice. Thanks much! I agree it's a VERY tight build!
  5. Hello all,

My Elec/SD scrapper is about to get to level 37 and I've slate him to take One With The Shield (OWTS).

Just wondering if that's a wise choice. I ask this because, unless I'm mistaken, it offers resistance to many mezzes. Isn't there already another power (I think it's True Grit --- can't remember, I'm at work ) that offers mez protection?

Also, he currently has Aid Other and Aid Self. I have used Aid Self numerous times (it's nice to always have the equivalent of a greenie with me at all times), but I've seen other Elec/SD scrappers with Hasten to get LR and SC up faster. Also, it seems that Superspeed's stealth factor would be nice to position myself before launching my AOEs.

What are your thoughts on getting rid of the medicine pool for favor of the Speed pool?

Thanks for any advice you can offer... I'm having a blast with him (especially since I've got LR and SC!)

    Thanks for your input, Amy!

Yeah... SOs make such a huge difference; I tend to agree with you.
  7. Thanks, Jade, for the thorough response and I see your point. The zoning would take up valuable time. Makes perfect sense.

I will also keep in mind your advice using PBU for offensive purposes as well as looking into Aim.

I'm grateful for all responses. Thank you all for taking time to help me out.

Definitely good to know... thank you,, Bubblegum Bomb.

Going crazy here.. you can use PBU + FF OUTSIDE a mission... enter the mission and re-bubble your teammates?

    As I said... "going crazy".
  9. I apologize. Yes, I meant Power Mastery. Thank you, Psylenz.

    Sorry.
  10. Another question related to FF:

If Energy Manipulation is chosen as the secondary, if/when I use "Boost Power" and cast the fields on my teammates, would those be boosted?

And if so, would the boost disappear once the power wanes? Or would it be there until the bubble disappears?

Also, is it even realistic? (ie. does Boost Power last long enough for me to bubble all my teammates?)

    Thanks!

Ah! Good to know...thanks so much!
  12. Muon, okay...thanks very much for the clarification.

I wonder why one can't use Rest during the power... seeing as one is only affecting oneself.

Ah well... can't have it all, eh?
  13. Hello all,

I've been toying with rolling up a FF defender and wanted to ask a few questions.

I'll preface that by saying I read PK's Bible...loved it. I couldn't ask for a more informative read. I look for the answer to the following question there, but I'm thinking I was too daft to gleam the answer:

If I put PFF up, does this mean that NO power that I have (that effects others) will work? In other words, will Maneuvers still give me defense? Or because it helps the team, it becomes useless for me?

Same question regarding the large AOE bubble (I forget the name)... if I use PFF, does that power (the AOE bubble) offer me no defense? I understand it offers the team no defense...but what about me?

I realize I could use Aid Self in a PFF or Rest, etc. Just wondering about some powers that help the team AND me?

Thanks for any clarification. I apologize if this is a dumb question.

Hey Tamaki, thanks for the input.

Seems like I need to look more into doing TFs and story arcs for merits... and just learn more about the merit system in general.

    Appreciate your advice!

    Phalanx Fighting

Werner, I have no doubt about that! I admire some players and the SPEED with which they farm. I just don't think I'm a good farmer with regards to that. LOL. But perhaps I need to join a few farming teams just to at least see how it goes. For me, I guess I get bored too easily (always been a flaw!) so farming doesn't do much for me. I'm not criticizing those who farm, mind you --- I just wish I had their patience, I reckon!

Eryq, when you say "get them" by doing TFs, do you mean recipes? Or merits? I was under the impression that we gain merits by completing TFs and with THOSE we can purchase recipes? Am I wrong?

    Phalanx Fighting

Yep.... Fury is right... about 100 to 150 million...for the RECIPE. Eep!

I must be doing something wrong... because I think maybe COMBINED all my toons have 125 million influence. To pay that much just for ONE of my toons to have a 7.5% global recharge rate... baffles me.

But it's on my end... because it's certainly a powerful IO and in VERY high demand obviously.

I'm not incredibly wealthy... is the LotG terribly expensive?

    Phalanx Fighting

    Hello all,

Got my elec/shield scrapper to level 24 and just wondering if I should take Phalanx Fighting? Looked at the tanker's guide to shield and it said that it could be useful as long as I am teaming with many melee, but nonetheless, it DOES come with a base 5% defense increase...

Just wondering your views on it?

    Or

Should I start digging into the Fighting Pool to eventually get Tough and Weave?

    Thanks for any pointers.

    Mentor Project

I think this is a great program. Bravo, Stalemate!
  21. Thanks very much for your build, Stryker. That's great to be able to have some guidelines. Appreciate your time.

DSlice, thanks for your input as well. I don't like Snipes either... By the time I get the snipe off, in higher levels, the team is already down there taking out the target for whom I aimed! LOL!

    Thanks for the feedback, guys!
  22. Stryker, wow. This was an extremely useful reply and very thorough. Thanks!

So, from what I'm gathering from your response... the only REAL "needed" EM powers are: Boost Range, Power Thrust (default), and Build Up.

I think the idea of a Perma- Boost-Range would be heaven. Is it hard to acquire? Or I should say EXPENSIVE to acquire? LOL!

Also, regarding Endurance... did you find you needed Fitness/Stamina? Or did you just stick in a few end reducers to help things along?

My concept is that he's a ranger-type (medieval ranger), so I'd like to get him stealth... I figure that along with Super speed would be good. Yes, I know I can put a +stealth proc in SS, but that's fairly expensive, no?

Thanks again for your time, Stryker.
  23. Hello all,

I'm thinking about creating an archery/energy blaster and I'd like to know which powers I should not even consider taking... especially from the secondary?

For example, I don't see any reason to take Power Boost.

Also, should I take any stunning powers? I figure I want to do damage and take the critters down... but then I thought about it and realize that stunning can buy me time to get out of sticky situations.

And if I take stunning, perhaps then I SHOULD take Power Boost to increase the effects of it.

    See? Vicious circle.

So if you can offer any tips, especially which powers I don't really need/want for archery/energy, I'd appreciate it.

I checked out the other thread that had the builds, and I saw some powers not included, but little mention of why they weren't included.

    Thanks for any help!

    Scrankers

Thank you all for your insight into this... I appreciate being enlightened to different viewpoints.

FireWyvern: Yes, you're right... I really don't play to cater to what others feel I should play. That being said, I also want to be team-helpful.

Whenever I'm team leader, I really am not that picky about the members...although I like to have a diversity of ATs. But I've had /kin or kin/ who don't have SB join my team. And while the other members are just laying into those kins, I really don't care. I guess I figure when I start paying their $15/month then I can tell them how to create their characters. As long as I see them using the powers they DO have (their heal, transference, etc.) then I see them participating. I want teammates who work for the team's good and are generally kind/respectful to each other. For me, it's more about fun than getting the beloved XP.

I think I'll stick with scrappers and build up their defense/resistance a bit. I've been toying with the idea of making an elec/elec scrapper. Perhaps I should put that idea to fruition.

Again, all of your feedback is appreciated!

    Scrankers

    Hello all,

I've been looking through some of the tank sets and I'm liking some possible combination of the sets. The thing is, I've never been able to fall in love with the role of meat shield when I team. I like to either help controlling the baddies while my teammates swipe at them, or debuffing them and/or buffing my teammates. I also like the pure damage of scrappers and blasters. Tankers, however, have never been a spark for me.

(Not to be misunderstood as my dislike of the AT... when I'm on a team with a good tanker, I'm just in awe...I truly admire what they can do! It's just not for me.)

That being said, I'm wondering what, exactly, is a "scranker". I've teamed with one who said that he basically took the tanker AT and slotted more for damage, etc. than for defense/resist.

Are "scrankers" frowned upon by teams?

Yes, I know I can get some of the same combinations as a scrapper, but I do like the higher base defense/resists of many tanker sets.

Just wanted to get the feel from you all about scrankers. I don't mean this to be a catalyst for a war/debate, but more of a "If I decide to roll up a scranker, will I be shunned by teams at worst, misunderstood I don't know my 'role' as a tanker at best" type question.

Thanks for any input you're willing to offer.

    Have a great weekend!
