For the salvage/recipe question: go to the auction house (wentworths/black market) and see what the average price on the item in question is. Then decide if it's worth putting up on the market or just selling it at any vendor shop.

Once you get a feel for how things are priced you'll have a pretty good idea what to do without physically checking every item. Or just put everything up on the market (that's what I do, it's easier and faster...I just put everything there for normal "vendor price" and if it sells for more than that then great [except for the few items that I know normally price out in the millions or more])

For your binds question: type this into your chat bar "\savebindfile {path}" where {path} is a complete filepath and name (like c:\mybinds.txt or something) and it will make a text file of all of your current keybinds. You can then edit that file and re-load it with "\loadbindfile {path}" to overwrite your binds on that character.

If you're going to make drastic changes to the character's binds, I'd also recommend you clear the current set first though (just so you don't have any left-overs if you change keys). The clear current binds option is on the character options menu.

Well to be TOTALLY technical, Intangibility enhancements actually DO increase the magnitude of the various "cage-lockdown" powers (rather than the duration). But I think that's the only example of increasing magnitude of effects.

    As to the OP's suggestions:

    1) No. What you're asking for is a "real" micro-transaction based game (as opposed to the purely optional and almost totally fluff purchasable items we already have). Don't want, don't need, and [at least for me] would spell the end of my 5-years-old-multiple-account-household subscription to the CoX world.

    2) If the inspirations were rare enough and balanced correctly, it might work. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

    3) I don't PvP, so can't comment here.
  3. Just to add another caveat to the "no" reasoning: Corpse-Blasting

One of the problems with DoT effects is the natural healing rate of the enemy. I can't tell you how many times I've watched my controllers (who usually have one of thier two 'primary attack' powers as a DoT) go: zap...tick...tick...tick and leave the mob with a tiny sliver of life because it got a heal tick in there during the DoT effect, where a burst attack would have dropped them.

So, in order to be certain the mob goes down when I'm busy trying to handle large groups, it's almost required that an "extra" attack be placed on the mob even though 90% of that extra attack's damage will be wasted.

The more DoT's you have, the more pronounced this effect will get.

The end result would be a lot of wasted attacks, wasted endurance, and (probably) a lot of 'sliver of health left..but just as dangerous as ever' mobs.

DoT as an 'extra' bonus to a burst attack (ie fire blast) is fine, but I think a pure DoT set would suffer badly in comparison to other blaster sets.
  4. I've got tons of newbie moments from way back when (most of the "hey watch this!" type), but the most embarrassing one has to be:

Shortly after the PvP zones where added to the game (meaning I'd been playing the game for what, a year or so?), I got a mission in Boomtown.

Somehow I got turned around and kind of lost. I'm standing in front of the PvP Zone doors complaining to my wife that the game must be bugged and for some reason they've upped the level restriction for entering Boomtown, but it's still handing out missions there (I was level 11 at the time).

I even sent in a bug report on it.

Shortly afterwards I opened the map and realized I wasn't anywhere near the Boomtown gate

Thanks Iron, I knew it was something like that, but couldn't remember the exact times.

I left out buying a respec from the store for real money because I didn't know you could

Between all the freespecs, approaching my 60 month vet badge, the trials (which I enjoy

doing even after I've gotten the 3 respecs), and the newish "dual-build" feature, I had just

never noticed that buying a respec was an option.

    Respecs

There are 4 "types" of respecs available.

    1) The free respecs (or freespecs) that are handed out by the devs every so often (usually around the same time as a new issue release). You can only have one of these at a time, so when the devs announce another one is being given out you need to use your old one or lose it. Access it by typing in \respec

    2) The various veteran reward respecs. You earn a claimable respec every so often (I think it's 1 per 12 months, but I don't pay that much attention so I'm not 100% on that). Claim it from your veteran rewards badge page, access it by talking to the "respec" guy (hero side he's in the main building in galaxy city, villain he's over in Nerva I think)

    3) "Earned" respecs. You can run a trial at levels 24+, 34+, 44+ and choose a respec as the reward for that trial. Access this respec in the same manner as #2 above.

    4) There are "respec receipes" that can be bought at the Auction House/Black Market. They are very rare and very expensive. You then craft the receipe and it gives you a respec. These respec receipes are dropped only from mob defeats (I think).

    Costume Question

And then speak with the City Rep/Kalinda/Burke again at level 30 to get the "aura" mission that unlocks, well...auras.

And, just in case you don't know, at levels 20, 30, 40 you can speak with the tailor/facemaker to get a mission that unlocks extra costume slots.

I'm going from memory only here (I don't have access at the moment), but I think you're choices are the belly shirts or the long-un-tucked-in shirt that only shows a sliver of midriff.

I don't think there's any specifically 1/2-shirt like you seem to be looking for.
  9. Soulwind

    Freakend!

There are several of the "belly shirts" that are spot-on with that look.

I think they might be vet rewards though (I honestly don't remember).

Even so there are a couple of "with skin" tops that come close to that as well
(I like the Bandeau top myself)

Ah, that would explain it. The toon I used does have an armor toggle with a perception boost. I didn't realize +perception negated their vanishing act. I thought they also sometimes went right through the walls, and I didn't see that happen either, but could have just been random.

Sadly, I guess my toons without perception buffs will have to continue putting up with vanishing ghosts.
Having +perception doesn't negate thier stealth, it simply makes them visible from further away....just like player stealth. (they have a certain level of -perception which is offset by your +perception for viewable distance).

As a side-note, for your toons without any natural +perception, you can always pop a yellow inspiration, it has a +perception effect along with the +accuracy effect. I tend to use them alot while fighting CoT or Tsoo.
  11. Found a bug related to the custom colors.

    On my Energy/Energy Blaster.

Different colors for Power Thrust, Energy Punch, and Bone Smasher.

Anytime I use Bone Smasher and then use Energy Punch, the Bone Smasher colors stay
active around my hands. (the actual little burst of color from the hit is in the correct color, but the "glowing circle mittens" stay in the bone smasher colors)

It doesn't occur if I cycle from Bone Smasher to Power Thrust or Power Thrust to either other power or Energy Punch to either other power, only on Bone Smasher to Energy Punch.

(blaster isn't high enough to test any of the other melee powers yet)

    Ice options

Except, of course, that there isn't a "stone blast" powerset.

If you want the crystalline-theme on your character, that character has to be either an Earth Controller/Dominator or a Stone Tank/Brute.

I also am a little disappointed that I can't make "gemstone blasts" out of the ice set, but such is life...
  13. I have to agree that it would be nice if I could slot my blasts to all be the same range.

But, considering that they recently (a few issues ago) DID increase all the short range blasts from 20' to 40', I doubt we'll be getting more any time soon.

Oh, and Soulwind, you left out "And I'm too dumb to start characters on higher population servers so that I can get the teams I need so badly."
Well, I try to never assume (or call someone) dumb...at least until proven otherwise.

[Especially when it comes to a toon's build. I've had more than my share of folks commenting on how bad some of my toon's builds are. I've got plenty of toons that are deliberately weaker. I may not be an Arcanaville or Catwhoorg, but if my toons are built in a particular manner then it's deliberate I can assure you].

And, with the not-exactly-obvious-or-documented, method the server list sorts; I certainly can't blame a newbie on picking a lower pop server by accident (at least for thier first toon) if they actually wanted an over-crowded lagfest of a game.

Lazy, though, is another matter. Lazy/Selfish is pretty easy to spot. Especially when I hear folks whining about how they can't find teams while at the same time there are 4-6 other folks spamming LFG's in broadcast. Somebody grow a pair and just gather them up, you've got an entire team spamming each other for teams!!!

Or the constant "merge the servers because I think everyone should have to play on Virtue so I don't have to put even the slightest bit of thought or effort in" threads...
  15. What gets me is why is it always "So-and-So server is abandoned/dead/empty/etc" when
what they usually mean is "I'm mentally incapable of solo'ing or running with anything less than a full 8 man team AND I'm too lazy to start my own teams AND I'd rather sit around for several hours waiting for some other team to pick me up AND whine about how the server's empty"

Just why is it that the only thing these folks seem to consider as acceptable population is the result of massive levels of lag, server queues, and tons of folks you wouldn't want to hang out with anyway? Are the other MMO's out there so bad that that's considered normal?

Guardian is my primary server, Pinnacle is my secondary, Protector is my tertiary, etc (I have toons on most of the servers) and I NEVER have any issues with getting on a team or forming my own teams when I want one. (OK, maybe at 3 AM on a Tuesday, but that's it).

So either I'm some super awesome player that everyone on the server knows and wants on thier team (unlikely), or I have some magic team-finding power (also unlikely), or maybe you're just doing something wrong (hmm.....).
  16. What Cat says is true for some missions.

However, there are also some missions where it's a random choice (or at least appears to be) and not a particular crate (glowie). In those missions, it's still just a singular glowie you're looking for, but every time you run the mission it spawns in a different location on the map (and they are all the same object type) so you can't just make a run straight to it.

A couple of examples is the "find crate x-1234" mission that's one of the natural origin starter missions (level 1-5), or the "find Manny's trophy" clockwork mission (level 5-10).

Also note that many (not all, but most) click-the-glowie missions also require that you defeat all the mobs that spawn in the same room/area as the glowie you're looking for.
  17. Training Room forum - patch notes from 9/28.

That's the patch that went live yesterday. Fix for drop rates is in there.
  18. It sounds like you've got a very old "newspaper/police band" mission that was generated before they removed some of the buildings where the architect building now stands.

It's probably trying to point to one of the mission doors that got removed and you won't be able to actually get into that door any longer (since the door no longer exists).

The best thing to do is to click on your newspaper/police band radio (depending on if you are playing villain or hero side) and choose the "automatically complete this mission" option to drop it. Then you'll be able to continue on with new missions normally.

(you can auto-complete any single non-timed mission once every 3 days)
  19. It's an interesting idea.

It would need a LOT of work though to come up with acceptable effects that aren't too unbalancing.

A couple of examples just gleaned from your examples:

Auto-Hit: pretty much invalidates any defense based powerset in PvP.

(I guess it could be changed to be auto-hit AND non-resistable though...then anyone with any kind of personal protection gets equally screwed by it, which might be acceptable)

    Piercing: really unbalanced.

For instance, my (hypothetical) SR scrapper normally has 30% defense to Melee attacks. However, due to IO bonuses, he also has 4.3% defense to Smash/Lethal. Your piercing attack would then use the pathetic 4.3%. However, if he didn't have those IO bonuses, then the only defense he had would be the Melee, rendering the Piercing effect non-functional...unless 0% defense would be considered the "lowest" in which case you've just replicated Auto-Hit.

But, overall, new 'effects' to apply via inspiriations and possibly loooong recharge temp powers could be rather interesting. Like everyone else, I doubt that this kind of change would go through, but it's not a bad idea.

So... can anyone answer how the "bosses/no bosses" flag works, solo and not solo?

My assumption is that it allows bosses in normal spawns and makes sure the end boss really is a boss and not a lieutenant. What I don't really have any idea about is if that is the default for teams (2+ members) regardless of how you have it set, or if even teams follow the flag.
    Golden:

The bosses/no bosses flag only functions when you are solo. If it's turned on then bosses will spawn as bosses when you are solo (just like the old difficulty levels 2+). If off, then they'll be lts (just like the old difficulty level 1).

The av/no av flag functions in exactly the same way only for AV's (AV's vs Elite Bosses)

Neither of these flags has any effect if you are teamed. Normal team size rules take over for that.
  21. Well, changing Granite into a "regular" armor toggle would force me to eliminate two of my stone armor characters.

Those two are spec'd (and IO'd) to be able to "live" in Granite and only turn it off while travelling.

Angry Lawn Gnome, especially, would have to go since a major portion of his concept involves the whoosh from a 4' minimum height slider toon into the 7' monstrosity that is Granite form.

So, if it's a choice of "shape-change" Granite or "toggle-armor" Granite, then I have to vote for the existing "shape-change" animation. While I'd love to see some options added, I'd hate to lose one of the few really unique powers out there.

That being said, if BaBs decides to change things, I'll live with it.
  22. Well I can't see having an actual full set with -KB, as the only thing you'd even be able to slot it into would be the "real" knockback powers (ie force bolt, power push, etc)

Because putting several -KB enhancers together would either
    1) almost instantly put you at 0 KB eliminating even the KD effect
    or
    2) require that the -KB effect be so low as to require you using the set limiting any other choice of sets or frankenslotting

    I could see a single IO with a -0.5 mag effect to KB though . . .

I don't see (from my admittedly VERY limited understanding of the game engine) why it wouldn't work.

And this has been suggested before.

So I'd guess that it's more of a game mechanic/balance desire than anything else.

ie having the KB in powers rather than KD is thematic and may (or may not) actually be
    part of the power's "balance"
  23. I wouldn't be adverse to increasing the duration of any/all of the buffs, so long as thier actual power levels aren't penalized as a result.

However, I don't think it's actually needed. Strictly a QoL measure in my mind.

Personally, when I'm playing any of my buffers (but especially any of my Kins), then
I do my best to keep the team buffed without prompting.

If I get busy doing other things (like staying alive), then that's just the way it goes.

If a team member gives me the ocassional reminder then I don't have any issue with it.

However, anyone who starts continuously spamming the "SB plz!!!", "SB naowssss!" crap
is immediately added to my "this jerkwad never gets buffed" list.

Sooner or later, either I leave the team or he does or he learns some manners...

    problem solved.
  24. It takes all of what 10-15 extra seconds to type in your password and hit the login button?

The time/annoyance savings are miniscule compared to the potential security/complaints issues it opens up.

Nope. This is a good feature.

Heh, I've had "Polly Chromatic" locked up on the server she's going on for quite a while.

Trouble is, I can't quite decide what to make her.

I was going to go with a human-form peacebringer so she could have different colored blasts, punches, and shields. Unfortunately, PB's aren't going to be colorizable.

Right now I'm leaning towards a FF/EB Defender to give me most of what I envision for her, but I'll have to wait and see how the various powersets look in different colors.

Of course, I'll probably wait until the expected metric ton of multi-colored toons either get bored or powerleveled out of my primary playing range.
