Quote:Sorry, it wasn't actually intended in a snarky way.Because there are always new players, e.g. ME
Judging by your response you probably didn't really read my original post but skimmed through it kind of assuming you knew what it said, which is understandable.
My highest lvl toons being in the mid 30s I actually just experienced my first TF last night so when it comes down to what is at the lvl cap I'm not looking for "more than activity X" I'm just curious as to what people do as I've never experienced most of it.
While I understand your frustration and borderline cynicism with my question, it's not necessary, weren't you new once?
On re-reading it, it did come out that way though.
What I meant was more along the lines of a general "why does everyone keep asking and/or complaining about level 50 content when it's the exact same thing every mmo has".
Actually, I guess even that sounds a little snarky.
So, I'll just apologize if I upset you and shut up now
EDIT: Oh, and welcome to the game. Enjoy it, it's a heck of a ride. -
Not sure what you mean here.
Do you mean just adding a display of Primary/Secondary powerset?
ie go to the character select screen and see:
Super-Duper X-Man
Invulnerability/Super Strength
Level 38 Science Tanker
Brickstown
as the character display (plus his picture of course)? -
You know, I see this type of question all the time.
"What is there to do with a level 50 toon other than Farm and/or TFs?"
"What endgame content is there other than farming, TFs, or raids?"
etc...
Every time I see these questions, the first thing I always think of is:
"What else do you want?"
I mean, honestly, what else is there to do in 'that other game' (pick one)
with a max level toon other than grind (and grind, and grind) for "phat lewt"?
[ie farming (grinding), TFs/raids (raids), and gathering Inf/IOs (phat lewt)]
It's pretty much the exact same thing. So why do these threads keep occurring? -
I'd say it's almost certain we'll be getting some new maps. At least in Praetoria.
Whether they are just new skins with (possibly) some shuffling of the tile pieces or
"real" new mapsets, I'd have to give a 50/50 chance.
As to whether or not they will be propagated down to Paragon/Rogue Island zones...
I'm guessing probably not, but I'd say maybe a 30/70 chance (yes/no). -
I got your note in-game the other day, but haven't had a chance to run it yet...
I'm looking forward to running through it.
(I've skipped any of the responses here that might contain spoilers)
---
What I really want to know is: What happened to Ghost in the Machine, part III ?
Did I miss it or have you never completed it?
I really want to know how the story ends.
That's one of the few arcs out there that has actually gotten me emotionally involved in it's resolution... -
Neither.
My villains are villains and my heroes are heroes.
They'll all be staying where they are.
I will, however, be creating a hero mastermind (starting in Praetoria),
but he'll be a hero from the get-go, not a redeemed villain. -
It can be a bit annoying if you get hit with one of the auto-missions and simply cannot stay logged in (due to maintenance times or real-life issues), but it's not the end of the world.
Assuming you beat the outdoors Kronos Titan (for the badge), then the final timed mission in the arc isn't going to make any real difference. You'll still have "successfully" completed the arc once the servers come back up, you'll just have failed that one single mission in the arc. -
Overall, it's not too bad. It's very much a "fire and forget" type defense set, so some folks probably won't care for it, but every set isn't meant for every person.
I'm not too sure about the splitting up of status protections into seperate toggles, but I see why you did it that way.
The biggest issue I see with the powers (ignoring names and rank progression as you said they aren't in level order) is that you have absolutely no holes in your protection.
Every defensive set should have at least one hole in it's protections.
You've got Defense, Resistance, +Max HP, +Regen, +Recovery, +Recharge, +Movement, Full Status Protection line (including Fear, which normally only 'dark' sets have), +Perception, +Accuracy, +ToHit, +Psi (def and res), +Toxic (res), etc...
In fact, the only thing you don't have protection against is Teleport Foe.
Granted, you kept the totals on the low side.
Let's see: (approximate values after slotting - and skipping the tier 9 godmode power)
+15% Defense (all positions)
+22% Resistance (all damage types - with all powers active)
+60% Hit Points
+70% Regeneration
+30% Recovery
+20% Recharge (or -20% depending on how you look at it)
Big movement bonuses
Big perception, accuracy, tohit bonuses (and as a toggle rather than an Aim clone)
+whatever you plan to have the taunt aura do (+Damage? may as well, you've got everything else)
It's not a bad idea, but it would probably need a lot of work to balance right.
----
And then, of course, you've got the problem of Costume = Powers.
I think one of the reasons we don't have a "power suit" type set is that it's better to have a more general powerset (like Invulnerability) that can then be paired with a "power suit" costume if desired.
If it's really a "power suit" powerset, then wouldn't the animations pretty much require a power suit costume effect (ala shield defense)? So it would probably need to be called something else with more general animations rather than something specific like "power suit" -
Wow, wall o' text there.
For a pop-up warning that you have expired enhancements. I don't particularly want or need it, but so long as it can be turned off like all of the "your xxx tray is full" warnings, I wouldn't have an issue with it.
For an automatic "upgrade all existing enhancements to the next highest usable tier and type" process. I'd be all for it. So long as you're only talking about TO/DO/SO.
You basically can't have this function available for IOs. I understand your choice to use vendor/table receipe price + vendor cost of salvage + crafting cost, but it's not really viable. After all, deific weapons have a vendor cost of 5000. If you can ever actually get a deific weapon for 5000, I'd be very surprised.
Basically, using those prices for IOs would immediately render the entire market moot. I'd NEVER use the market and just auto-update IOs to new levels for a fraction of the "real" price I'd be paying for those IOs. Plus how would you handle set IOs? I can't very well go from common IOs to set IOs automatically or else you've now also destroyed Merits and Tickets as well. -
Yes, we're just players helping out other players with what we know here.
You'll have to contact the NCSoft Customer Support center with this kind of issue.
As to whether or not they will swap out your key (or your buddy's key, whichever - although he would have to contact them for that), I can't say for certain.
It depends on them. Be polite and ask for assistance (ie don't demand it) and they may or may not swap out the keys, depending on your circumstances.
I can't say for certain, only that they have done so in the past. -
The only thing that you can do is to contact customer support and explain the situation to them.
They have been known in the past to swap out EU activation keys for US activation keys when the wrong key got accidently purchased. -
1) Make sure it's the actual 'game card' (the one that comes with a temporary jetpack power) [which is used to activate accounts] and not just a 'time card' [that just pays for a certain period of subscription time]
2) Make sure you haven't accidently gotten a European 'game card', if you are trying to create a US account; or a US 'game card', if you are trying to create an EU account.
3) Other than that, then you'll probably have to contact Customer Service. They've always been really helpful to me so don't despair.
EDIT: I'm pretty sure that the 'game cards' only come with 30 days of play for activating the account (I think they were priced at $20.00 or so). So if you've got a 60 day card, as you said in the OP, it's probably a 'time card'
If that's the case, then you'll still need to activate your account using one of the various methods (buy a retail box - GvE Edition, Architect Edition, etc; buy an account code from the NCStore; buy a downloadable version from Steam, etc) [all you need is a valid account code, since you've been playing a trial version - it's the same client software]
Then, after activating the account, you can apply the 60 day time card to the account (so it's not wasted if you did get the wrong card type). FYI, I think steam is selling the Architect Edition for $10.00 right now (which comes with $15.00 of play - ie one month). -
Quote:I really doubt that anyone thinks trading/gifting inspirations between factions is exploitable.Well, there may be relief for this situation in the future -- Posi made some encouraging comments in regard to being able to trade inspirations between heroes and villains, so it's something they will hopefully address (I really find it hard to believe anyone considers insp trading seriously exploitable in any significant way).
If I had to guess though, I'd say that the whole trading/gifting code is of one piece and can't distinguish between any tradable object (enhancements, receipes, salvage, influence, inspirations, etc) which is why we can't trade just inspirations [yet, hopefully].
If it was turned on for one object, it would have to be turned on for all of them type thing... -
Here's my build for Professor Light. He doesn't have all of the sets slotted yet, but has been just fine with common IO's and SO's, with the sets just making him even tougher.
He's a human-form only PB (concept-wise he's not actually a Kheldian, but was infused with the Kheldian energy when a merging went wrong. The actual Kheldian personality matrix "died" but the energy transformed him anyway).
He's currently level 39 and has run with teams and solo just fine. When solo he used to run on Rugged, now he runs at +1/x3 (which is just about perfect for spawn sizes and levels for him, imo).

It's an interesting set with *what could be* some cool effects.
BUT, there's a reason why we don't have any powersets that have Toxic damage as thier prime component.
Almost nobody has any appreciable resistance to it (and nobody has any defense to it, other than positional defense).
Having the minor Toxic "ticks" from the secondary effects of a few powers is acceptable, but when you're being hit by Moderate (or greater) damage effects that are purely Toxic?
Nope, that would have to fall into the overpowered category.
Changing the damage type to Lethal (representing the metal-poisoning you're trying for) would solve that, but would definately be less thematic than Toxic. Or maybe Smashing (to represent being crushed by the metal bonds). Or possibly even Smashing/Toxic (with the toxic being a small portion of the damage ala spines). -
-
If you can only manage 3 slots: 1 level 50 common IO, 1 level 50 Shifter End Mod IO, and the +End Proc is the best "over time" for the slots.
The +End Proc is better than a 3rd End Mod IO over a large enough sample time (hour +).
In a short timeframe (say any particular 5 or 10 minute period) it's inconsistent effect
cause it to be slightly worse, but only very slightly.
Remember, that 3rd IO (at lvl 50) is only netting you a 4% increase in actual recovery amounts (going from 45.8% recovery to 49.8% recovery).
On the other hand, it isn't a huge amount either way, and given the expected price you'll pay for the set IO and proc, just slotting 3 common IO's is usually more than enough.
(especially since if you're worrying about slotting stamina up, you've more than likely already set IO'd your attack powers and are getting a hefty end reduction on each of them anyway) -
1) Are you sure you logged back into the same server you were on before?
(this is probably the most common result of the 'all my toons vanished' complaints)
2) The other possibility is if you've recently gone from a trial account to a full account
and started a new actual account name (rather than upgrading the trial account name)
and used the "old" name to log in.
3) The last thing would be if someone else has access to your account information and deleted the characters.
If it's none of those, then you'll need to contact Customer Support.
(and if it's #3 - change your log in info pronto and go bop whoever did it on the head)
EDIT: oh well, too slow again -
Quote:Congrats, and I mean this whole heartedly.
BUT
How come though your Billion is less than my idea of a Billion
A Hundred Hundreds = a Thousand
A Thousand Thousands = a Million
Now here we get a little different
Over here (U.K.) a Million Millions = a Billion
please correct me if I am wrong, but in the U.S.
A Thousand Millions = a Billion?
the U.S. isn't bigger, its just inflated.
(the above post is brought to you with tongue firmly planted in cheek)
Mr ?
From the wiki entry:
The long and short scales are two of several different large number naming systems used throughout the world:
Short scale is the English translation of the French term échelle courte. It refers to a system of large number names in which every new term greater than million is 1,000 times the previous term: billion means a thousand millions (10^9), trillion means a thousand billions (10^12), and so on.
Long scale is the English translation of the French term échelle longue. It refers to a system of names in which every new term greater than million is 1,000,000 times the previous term: billion (from bi and million) means a million to the power of two or a million millions (10^12), trillion (from tri and million) means a million to the power of three or a million billions (10^18), and so on.
Many countries, including most in continental Europe, use the long scale. For most of the 19th and 20th centuries, the United Kingdom uniformly used the long scale, while the United States of America used the short scale, so that usage of the two systems was often referred to as British and American respectively.
In 1974, the government of the UK abandoned the long scale, so that the UK now exclusively applies the short scale interpretation in mass media and official usage. Although some residual usage of the long scale continues in the UK, the phrases British usage and American usage are no longer accurate nor helpful characterizations. The two systems can be a subject of misunderstanding or controversy. Usage changes can evoke resentment in adherents to the older system, while national differences of any kind can acquire jingoistic overtones.
--
So, yes in the US - (short scale) a billion is 1,000,000,000 (10^9)
while a trillion is 1,000,000,000,000 (10^12)
In the older UK (long scale) a billion would be 1,000,000,000,000 (10^12)
and a trillion would be 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 (10^18)
However, apparently, the UK uses the short scale now, so it's the same as the US.
Either way, I think it's officially a "buttload" of cash
Congrats to the OP, now go out and buy ONE (count 'em ONE) PvP IO. -
Is there a way, using the "standard/default" font of the game
to get any of the special characters into a toon's name?
And if there is, how?
Specifically, I'm referring to some of the foreign characters
like umlat, accent marks, etc

FROM SONY's FORUMS:
Safe mode is a feature for starting the PS3 system with the "minimum required functionality" if the system is no longer able to start up normally due to an action was taken (such as turning off the system's MAIN POWER switch while data was being written to the hard disk drive). By starting up the system in safe mode then executing a menu option, you may be able to eliminate the symptom. Please note there is a chance that safe mode options will not fix the problem and you system will require service.
We do not recommend using the options in Safe Mode unless you are experiencing issues with the PLAYSTATION 3. Some of these options could result in loss of data.
If you choose to perform one of the Safe Mode options, please back up your data before attempting to enter safe mode (when possible).
Safe Mode is only available to PS3's with system software 2.60 or greater installed.
When to Use Safe Mode
Execute safe mode when the PS3 is experiencing the following symptoms:
When the PS3 system is started up, the XMB menu is not displayed (only the wave screen background appears)
When the PS3 system is started up, nothing appears on the screen
When the PS3 system is started up, a message stating [The hard disk's file system is corrupted and will be restored.] is displayed > [OK] > Restore operation > Restart
Original message is displayed again or the system stops during restoration.
When the PS3 system is started up, a message stating [The hard disk's database will be rebuilt.] is displayed > [OK] > Rebuild > Failure > System stops while formatting hard disk drive.
The system stops while restarting after a PS3 system update or while updating or rebuilding the database. The situation does not improve even when the system is restarted.
Safe Mode Options
In Safe Mode, you will have the following options:
Restart System - Ends safe mode and starts up the PLAYSTATION 3 normally.
Restore Default Settings - Performs the same operations as [Restore Default Settings] on the XMB, and also deletes PlayStation®Network account information from the system.
Restore File System - Attempts to repair all areas on the hard disk drive where files can be saved. Corrupted data may be erased if it cannot be recovered.
Rebuild Database - Deletes messages, playlists, changes made on [Information] screens, trimming information for pictures in [Photo], video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information.
This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.
Restore PS3 System - IMPORTANT: All data will be lost by performing this step.
This will reformat the hard drive on the PLAYSTATION 3, deleting all data and restoring it to as if it just came out of the box. This is the same as [Restore PS3 system] on the XMB.
System Update - Updates the PS3 system software. This can only be done with an update file already saved on an external storage media.
Activating Safe Mode
Step 1:
Turn off the PLAYSTATION 3 by holding the Power button on the front of the unit till the Power light is red.
Step 2:
Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, meaning the PLAYSTATION 3 is powering on.
Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep, indicating the video reset.
Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a third beep and the system will power off (Power light is red).
Step 3:
Touch and hold the Power button, you will hear the first beep, again for the PLAYSTATION 3 to power on.
Continue to hold the Power button and after about 5 seconds, you will hear a second beep for video reset.
Continue to hold the Power button and after about another 5 seconds you will hear a quick double beep. At that point release the Power button. If you succeeded in activating Safe Mode, you will see a message on the screen saying, "Connect the controller using a USB cable and then press the PS button."
Connect a USB cable to the controller and the PLAYSTATION 3 and press the PS button to enter Safe Mode.
Step 4: We recommending performing the safe mode options in the following order until one of the options works for you. If one of the options work, do not continue onto the other options.
Restore Default Settings
Restore File System
Rebuild Database
Restore PS3 System -
ToHit DeBuffs fall directly into the "did I hit" calculation.
(Base ToHit - any ToHit DeBuffs + any ToHit Buffs - Opponent's Defense) (capped at 5%/95%) * Total Accuracy Modifier (capped again at 5%/95%)
The only real difference between applying a ToHit DeBuff and having Defense
is
1) ToHit DeBuffs may or may not be resisted by the mob, altering it's final effect
2) The THDB may or may not be harder to apply to the mob (Rise to the Challenge won't apply the debuff against mobs that aren't in range of it, etc)
EDIT: that formula might not be 100% correct ever since the re-balance to defense that went on a while ago (I'm doing it from memory and my memory has big gaping holes in it), but I think it's reasonably close. Check the big "how defense works" threads from Arcanaville for completely accurate info if I'm off on the formula here. -
While I would certainly not be against a raise in the speed cap for flight, up to superjump's speed or so, the thing that I think would most make Fly more viable is to remove the level scaling.
Fly at the "true" speed cap (ie the level 50 speed cap of Fly) is acceptable, but you only hit that cap at 50...down in the 30's that cap is much, much lower.
Still, I take my toons movement powers based on thier concepts, not on the power levels, so I've got Flyers, Runners, Jumpers, Teleporters, and travel-pool-less toons - whichever is appropriate for that character. -
IF you are CERTAIN that it's the CoH client being detected and not some other (actual) keylogger being seen while you just so happen to be playing, then I wouldn't worry about it.
(that's a big IF though)
It really wouldn't surprise me that some virus scanners would detect online games as a keylogger, as the behaviour is rather similar.
You press a key...a packet gets generated and sent out to the net...you press another key...another packet goes out...etc
I've never dealt with the particular anti-virus package you are referencing so I can't say for certain. Personally, I'd probably go do some reading on thier own forums looking for false positives that the software is prone to (which often varies quite a bit between different packages). -
Oh sure, bring reality and common sense {back?} into the thread!
