  1. How are you determining that it's not working?

It's always accepted Defense, that's what it does. Grants defense to teammates in range.

[If you're expecting it to help YOU, it doesn't and never has, it's a teammate only buff]

Edit: I'm at work, so I can't check, but do you mean that it's not showing a change in it's effects via the real-numbers display (ie show details stuff)? Could be the display got messed up, but I don't remember anyone saying anything about it during Beta, but it could be nobody noticed.
  2. Heh, just wait till you get to Part Six . . . . (sorry, couldn't resist)
  3. The Devs should turn them into public access kiosks.

    Have them grant:

    1) Public access to the city's teleportation grid
-- (teleport to any zone, using the SG zone teleport destinations, 1 use per 30 min or so)

    and/or

    2) Public access to the city's emergency alert system
-- (access to the same stuff as an SG mission computer so even non-SG members can use)
  4. Or you could take all of 10-15 minutes and pick up a quick 100,000 to 500,000 from the market and easily fund everything you might want up through DO's in the first few minutes of the characters career...

Seriously, it's so easy that I stopped trying to twink out new characters a long time ago.

(at least as far as early career twinking goes...I'll still have my high-level toons help out on full IO sets)

Still, being able to mail stuff around IS a nice change. Makes transferring stuff a lot simpler for the few times it's really helpful.
  5. The minimum requirements haven't changed officially. However, they did make a few system-wide adjustments (like the overall fix for wide-screen monitors) that may be affecting you somewhat.

Since you mention that you're using an integrated video chip, is it an Intel graphics chip?

Apparently, one of the changes was to remove some of the kludge fixes that were in place making things work OK for integrated Intel graphics chips. (I doubt it was a deliberate thing, more of a side-effect of changing some of the OpenGL calls to the modern versions).

Check around on some of the threads about the Intel graphics chips. I honestly don't know if there's any fixes/workarounds in place for them yet.
  6. Here's the patch notes for the new arcs:

Evil (and good) has a new face. Check out new story arcs for a new kind of enemy.

    For Heroes:
Field Agent Keith Nance has arrived in Talos Island to investigate charges of treason. He realizes he has the wrong suspect so he needs your help to solve the case.

Once you've cleared things up with the government and Keith Nance, he directs you to Special Agent Jenni Adair who has just come into some new information.

    For Villains
Dean MacArthur in Sharkhead Isle has some information on the troublesome hero, Ajax, who has been spotted in the Rogue Isles recently.

After you are finished with Dean MacArthur, you can look up Leonard Silmon, who is interested in a new group called "Mane Corp".

You can also access them via Ouroboros if you're using a high-level character.

  8. Ahh, good to know. I wasn't aware that there actually was an unbind command.

I've always just used the nop command or used the reset/reload steps to completely refresh my binds.

I have a default bind file that every character gets (sets my numpads to team selects, sets "rest" to the 'P' key, sets "Sprint" to the 'G' key, etc). Then I have a specialized bind file for each character that is specific for that character.
  9. If they are Macros (ie there's a button for them), then just remove the button from the tray and the macro gets deleted.

If they are real keybinds (ie a /bind {key} {command} was used to create them), then you can either do a /bind {key} nop for each key to remove it's binding or you can go to your options screen and under the keybinds section there is a button to erase all keybindings and set everything back to default.

What I would do is this:

    1) /bind_save_file c:\mybinds.txt -- this will save all of your characters keybinds to a file
    2) edit the c:\mybinds.txt to keep only the specialized binds you want, erase everything else (the binds you don't want, the default binds, etc)
    3) reset all keybinds to default via the options screen
    4) /bind_load_file c:\mybinds.txt -- this will reload the edited file and restore only the keybinds you want to keep

That way you get rid of everything you don't want, but easily keep the ones you do.
  10. It doesn't directly help you, but with Controller pets (since they "have minds of thier own" and you can't directly order them arouns) you need to kind of lead them where you want them to be.

90% of the time, just sticking close to where Singy is hovering will provide you with enough cover. It's repel affect is PBAoE around it, and it's got a pretty reasonable aggro range for using it's powers on the enemy.

Those times when you need it to be repositioned, try running past the enemy. This will cause Singy to follow you and end up in the middle of the mobs.

Not the best solution, but it works most of the time. Normally with my Gravity Controller, I tend to just basically ignore Singy. He's there, he's doing his thing, but I try not to have him be my only method of support. (the same is basically true with most of the controller pets I use...except Fire Imps...those guys I just let go to town)

  12. The answer is "we don't know".

There's very little specific information on how things are going to work in GR, especially with the side switching. You can check the GR information on the website and a few "confirmed" information threads, and pretty easily piece together as much as anyone here knows.

From my understanding (which might very well be wrong), here's what we do know is in GR:

    1) New "alternate dimension - Praetoria" zone. Choose Loyalist or Resistance factions. Levels 1-20 missions/contacts. All AT's welcome to either side. After level 20, choose to go to "prime" CoH dimension - choosing either blue or red side at that time.

    2) Side switching for "prime" dimension characters. Heroes go Vigalante then go Villain. Villains go Rogue then go Hero. Side switching is handled via some sort of story arc driven content. Multiple switching back and forth is possible.

    3) New powersets (dual pistols, demon summoning, kinetic combat, electric control, maybe others who knows?)

    4) The first level of the "Incarnate" system. Kind of a teaser for the full system coming later.

    5) Ultra-Mode (originally). UM implementation has been moved to I17 release next week.
  13. This is a good idea.

    It's not anything major.

I mean, it's not like medium insps are hard to come by anyway.

It would, however, add another repeatable mission set, with a minor but tangible reward,
and bring a bit more parity to the red/blue sides.

  14. OK, based on those re-posted links, the answer is:

Technically, Yes. But in all actual probability, No.

    Reason:

PCI-E 2 is (almost always, there are a few custom card exceptions)
compatible with PCI-E 1 (x16) and that board does have a single x16 slot.

    So, technically Yes.

However, that is a small motherboard (11.2 in x 10.5 in).
The GTX 260 is 10.5 inches long all by itself and needs a minimum of a 500 watt power supply.

Given how old that mb is, and the probable size of the case it's in and the power supply those Gateways usually come with (ie barely large enough for the package bought when it was new), I expect that:

    1) The power supply is probably not going to be large enough to handle the load
    and
    2) The card may not even fit in the case

But, as he didn't list anything other than MB and prospective card, I can't say for certain.
  15. Both links come up as bad pages.

What model Gateway is it and what's the video card? or fix the links if you want...

(example: just say "Gateway DX4300" or whatever and Radeon 5870 or whatever)
  16. I'm almost certain that it won't award the Positron's Ally badge anymore.

The badge is now linked to having completed BOTH portions of the new TF version.

I can't say with 100% though, as the character I used while testing the Oro version of
the old TF already has the badge.

    Thinking of...

Keep an eye on your system.

The 5970 takes a lot of power (especially if you overclock it).

With you running only a 700w PS, you're OK for now, but if you do any overclocking on either the CPU or GPU, you might run into some power problems as you'll be pushing that PS up to near it's top.
  18. MW2, shemW2....get to work on finishing your AE arcs!!!

(just kidding....congrats on the new hardware, you'll be pretty happy with it once the I17 changes hit live).
  19. One big issue with this:

Select Count(toonname) From ExistingToonsTable Where toonname = xxxxxxxxxx

-- returns 1 record [either the name is in use or it's not]

    Select toonname From ExistingToonsTable

-- returns potentially MILLIONS of records
--Now populate that into a list and send it over to the client . . .

  22. 1) He needs to update to current drivers for his card.

    2) Seriously, he needs to update his drivers.

    3) He probably needs to clean out the dust-bunnies inside his machine.
Some of the symptoms do sound like an overheating issue.

    4) Did I mention that he NEEDS to update his drivers?
  23. Welcome to the game.

Just for point of reference, here's the "regular contact" zones (hero side). These are the normal city zones that contain your story arc contacts. There are also special Hazard Zones which may or may not have in-zone stories.

    Regular City Zones (story arcs)

Atlas Park & Galaxy City: level 1-5
    Kings Row: level 5-10
Steel Canyon & Skyway City: level 10-20
Talos Island & Independence Port: level 20-30
Founders Falls & Brickstown: level 30-40
    Perigrine Island: level 40-50

Special Zones and Hazard Zones (levels are rough approximations)

The Hollows: level 5-15 In-Zone Stories: Yes
Perez Park: level 5-15 In-Zone Stories: No
Boomtown: level 15-25 In-Zone Stories: No
Faultline: level 15-25 In-Zone Stories: Yes
Striga Island: level 20-30 In-Zone Stories: Yes
Dark Astoria: level 20-30 In-Zone Stories: No
    Crey's Folly: level 30-40 In-Zone Stories: No
Eden: level 35-50 In-Zone Stories: No
Croatoa: level 25-35 In-Zone Stories: Yes
Cimerora: level 35-50 In-Zone Stories: Kind Of (repeatable mission contact and a TF)
  24. Ah Ha! So now we see the truth.

All of that obsessive/compulsive *spreadsheets from the underworld* stuff is just a ruse to get cookies...

    mmm, cookies...
  25. Signed every which way.

I loves me my vanguard sigil for my arcane based characters.

Having a tech based looking one would be great.
