Quote:Team up and hit them with a couple -regen powers right before they click it. They emerge with no more hp than they went in with. Ha ha double Heat Exhaust and they'll not only gain no hp they might even drop out of it due to the -recovery cause lots of people don't really slot it up.
If you and whoever it is that you run with are that damn good at your timing and communication, then you absolutely not only deserve the kill, but deserve one hell of a "Props" from the Stalker you pull this off with. That would be one hell of a job and one hell of a kill that would be pulled off and a precision timing. GRTZ! -
Been a good long time since I have played City of Heroes/Villains. Last time I was here, PvP had become what I would have considered a joke. Travel Power Supression had reached it's extreme, yet unbarable limits... Mez resistance had become a joke to anyone who had actually invested to resist it and stacking mez had become usless. PvP as I had known it had changed to a point that turned myself away from even wanting to participate.
Of course I am sure that the whole problem with Defence vs Accuracy has not changed, that has always been an issue and probably always will be, but I am currious, how has PvP faired in the open PvP zones since my last days among the CoX community?
Just so that you know, I have not, nor probably ever will be a big Test Server PvPer, just never was my gig, but regardless, I am still an active PvPer in the open zones. Has anything changed in PvP since those days? I know we now have some type of PvP IOs these days, but other than that, is there hope in the PvP future that I can look forward to? If there has been anything that has changed in PvP since I have left, I would appreciate any info that would consist as an oppinionated update. Thanks. -

I get where he is coming from, I hate knock backs and would love to change them to knock downs on certain powers. I ask for this about once a year myself.

Quote:Same here, I have them bound to my 4th hot bar. I use them quite often and at times see others using them as well. But not everyone in the game knows how to bind emotes to their hot bars or mouses, so in that case, typing /em flypose 1-5 is actually a bit of a hassle. Would be my guess why they see nobody using them. Not to mention when people actually *are* using them, they are (hello?) flying. Above your head. Out of site.I'll admit the flight poses are not trivial to use right out of the box so to speak. But I have them keybound to buttons on my mouse and I've been using them regularly every time I play for years now. In fact using them is pretty much an unconscious habit for me at this point.
To answer one persons question as to how they came to be, flight emotes were not always emotes, they started out as automatic. If you wanted them to change, you had to let go of the W key and hit W key again, and you had the next flight emote. People were unhappy that they could not use the flight emote they wanted, so it was changed to an emote instead of (which I liked better) automatic. Along with the automatic flight emotes, you would also tilt when you would turn in flight, but some people did not like the flight change (And I was *not* one of those people, I loved them) so the Devs changed it back to it's original state. Shame it had to go, I liked it fine the way it originaly came out, automatic along with the mid flight tilt while turning. Meh, can't please everyone. -
I have seen alot of people suggest walking over the years, but like all other things that have been and will be implemented into the game, people with bigger brains than myself has always said, "It will never happen, stop asking." Sorry to be a bit bitter here, but I always knew those people were full of it. I can not count the things we have in this game that was told to us, "it will never happen" yet here we are.
So on that note, I believe I have discovered a way to make the Walking for us as players possible. We were looking at this the wrong way. we were asking for Walk as an option, but it never occured to anyone (at least not to my knowledge) that if it were implemented as a self debuff power combined with a walking animation, it could be possible to implement. Much like sprint, it is a buff that increases your speed, so now we can instead have a new power called, "Walk" which is nothing more than a movement speed debuff, another toggle that debuffs your speed and has with it a walking animation.
In light of this, do you guys and gals think this would be workable? -

I really don't get the no rewards so it is an impediment to PvPing. If you like to PvP then the reward is PvPing. Those of us that like to PvP do it because we like to do it not because it gets us anything. The reason that there are low numbers in the zones/arenas is because a ton of people quit with the release of i13 and no matter what you do to the game, the people that don't like to PvP will not magically start liking PvP. They will always have some reason(excuse) as to why they don't/won't do it.
They complained that purpled FOTM toons ruled the roost, so I13 was made to even out the playing field... are the people who complained about it now in the zones or arena PvPing, nope.
They complained that they didnt want to "ruin" their PvE build to make a PvP build. Tada dual builds, now you can have a PVP and a PvE build but are they taking advantage and PvPing, again nope, and what some of these people are doing instead is making a PvE team build and PvE solo build......
So now the new excuse is there are no rewards for PvPing so when and if they put in some real rewards for PvPing there will be a new excuse as to why people don't PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
I used to really enjoy PvP. I have to admit, when IOs were released into the game, I was a bit distraught. I felt that IOs took your characters and their weaknesses, and built them outside of the intended mechanics. It covered holes in the builds that IMO were *supposed* to be there. But instead, it took builds that were extremely difficult to beat, and made them stronger.
Meh, ok...whatever. No big deal. At that point, I felt I had already proved myself anyway, so I decided to retire from PvP and let the new generation of PvPers enjoy the new PvP that was brought with IOs.
I would occasionally return to RV from time to time just to see how things have changed, get a few kills, make sure I have not lost my touch, then leave again for a couple more months. But I was still not a big IO fan.
Was only until recently that my blood boiled for more PvP action. I hit RV once again with my Night Widow, speced for Mêlée PvP, I did well under the circumstance, but quickly found that the new Travel Power Suppression was just plain stupid. I hated it. PvP in this game had become a complete joke. This new style of PvP forced on us by the Devs is not even close to being anything worthy of a good time. They nerfed everybody in PvP to accommodate any new players that wants to come into the zones. It makes zero sense to me. If they wanted to fix PvP, then they should have boosted the lacking power sets, and left alone the power sets doing well. But no, as always, they nerf everything and everyone. So then, even though I came here to get back into PvP, that quickly changed my mind. The new system is horrible.
Then I see this....

Arena
Updated the Arena UI: dropped "Tactical Start" and "No Stealth" added "No Travel Suppression" and "No Diminishing Returns
[/ QUOTE ]
Wow.... That is a shock. So after seeing that, I decided to remake my Ice/Elec Blaster and hit Arena. To hell with Zone PvP. As long as these nerfs to zone PvP are around, I will seldom go there. So now, with the new changes coming, I plan to take an Ice/Elec Blaster to Arena and see if I can still make Ice/Elec work as I did once before. I understand that Ice has been nerfed in PvP and is not what it used to be, but as most people who knew me back in the day would tell you, I never was a big fan of FoTMs.
If it were up to me, zone PvP would go back to the Arena days, loose travel suppression altogether, period. It is plain stupid. -

As a long time pvp'er, you entered the zone with a gimped toon and broadcast your whining after being killed. I'm at least glad that you weren't surprised when people told you to learn to plan and continued to kill you.
In my experience, if you don't whine and cry after a death, players are far less likely to "talk trash" to you when they kill you.
If you broadcast a whine, you're initing a response from others in the zone, and that response is not likely to be positive or filled with constructive criticism about what you can do better.
Maybe your lessen should be for new players rather than vets, and should say "Don't whine or cry after you get killed in a pvp zone, as that's just giving ammo to the donkeyholes. Expect to take your lumps. Just get up again and rejoin the fight. After all, you don't lose anything when you get killed."
[ QUOTE ]
Took a (lvl 37) Elec/Kin into a PvP zone to test out the build...Was constantly ganked over and over .if this is any indication to how others are treated
[/ QUOTE ]
So, you were solo, on a low-level, poorly equipped (for pvp) toon, and you were defeated by teams of enemies. Again, at least you weren't surprised by the results.
Did you ask to join a team? Did you try inviting others to team with you?
There are lots of tips that can be given to new players to help make their pvp experience more enjoyable. One of them is "don't expect much success if you are solo and fighting against teams of opponents. A team will likely be able to kill you repeatedly without you being able to do much."
[ QUOTE ]
For me, IOs ruined PvP.
[/ QUOTE ]
While IO's didn't ruin pvp for me, they did mean the end of me being able to compete with some folks, and that did pretty much suck. The fact that I could pvp 24/7 for the next year, and still find myself below a pve farmer on the totem pole is pretty lame.
Anyway, I DO agree with FACT that behavior in the pvp zones turns away many folks from pvp. The behavior combined with the balance issues creates many problems. Most players don't want to take repeated dirt-naps (suddenly their characters that are invulnerable in pve can be killed in a matter of seconds) and at the same time have their family insulted.
However, the arena doesn't typically suffer from the same behavioral problems, but is still dead.
The reasoning behind the "death of pvp" is more balance/reward related than it is as result of bad behavior.

Hey, why should I? It is not me who is crying all over the forums because PvP in this game has died. I could care less. It's your problem, not mine. I just figured I would be nice enough to show you *why* your precious PvP is dying.
[/ QUOTE ]
No offense, but I think people that have been PvP'ing for 3 years have a slightly better idea about why "PvP in this game has died" than you.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then perhaps all that time I spent in PvP (Which was close to three years, I did not quit until IOs came out.) was for nothing. Because even when things were going the way they were, there were still people on these boards complaining that PvP was dead or dying. People were coming on these boards for the past three years, continuously putting forth ideas to the suggestion forums that would bring more people to the zones. And each time, the reason was the same, not enough people PvPing.
For me, IOs ruined PvP. That was the straw that broke the camels back for me. It changed the games mechanics in which I thought was fine to begin with. But that was just me, and that was my personal opinion of IOs in PvP.
Meh, what do I know...
Maybe I was wrong.... -

We aren't "crying all over the forums because PvP in this game has died", we are QQ'ing because some the changes made in i13 to PvP were for people like you. People who will never like PvP in this game because they can't go into a pvp zone solo and perform like they do in solo PvE.
Multibuilds aren't really a PvP addition, but it will bring in new folks who didn't want to give up their PvE build.
Adding Rewards will bring in new people to PvP.
Adding objectives (other than killing) will bring in new people to PvP.
Dumbing it down for people like you was a bad idea in my opinion. Because in the end folks like you are going to get defeated, repeatedly. And instead of trying to learn how to get better, you get angry, and ultimately post about it on the forums.
Turn off your enemy chat and adapt...or stick to PvE.

Sorry, man. Not like me, but like the people I was portraying myself to be. other than that, good points. -

So people should "let" you kill them sometimes and not attack back? I'm not sure why you felt when others were using their powers, it was ganking? They cant very well just let you tee-off on them bro.
You wanted to know some things about your build. I think you may have found them out, but not liked what you found?
[/ QUOTE ]
No no, you misunderstand, or maybe I just was not clear enough. I was constantly singled out by others and ganged up on. Personally, I don't care, not that big of a deal. I am sure if the villains were nice enough to invite me to their teams, things would have went a different way. But hey, no biggie. I have been there and done that, most likely long before most of the PvPers these days have been. This is nothing new. I'm just saying, to somebody who would be stepping into a PvP zone for the first time, I am sure that would not be a very nice experience for them, and would most likely make them not want to ever come back. Even when I played my Stalker pre RV days, I did not continuously single out one player over and over, I mixed it up some. But that's just me.
[ QUOTE ]
Only a few variables here.....the build....or your skill/decision making while playing it. Also reflex time, compared to "having to think" about what your reactions to attacks were going to be need to be taken into account, to be fair. PvP speed is different than PvE speed. Damage spikes in PvP are like AV/EB dmg in PvE.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am fully aware of that and do understand where you are coming from. Irregardless of that, I conducted an experiment and was not at all surprised at what I found. This PvP mentality has been here since day one of the Arena days. Nothing has changed. My only point being, if PvP is on the verge of dying, then perhaps it is time to be a little warmer to anyone who is new. Not hard to do, all you have to do is stop with the, "LRN2PvP" mentality and stop ganging the same person over and over....especialy when you are just doing it to be doing it, I know that nobody was getting any rep off me.
[ QUOTE ]
Lots to consider. While the "lrn2pvp" can get under your skin sometimes....kep in mind, thats the very reason its being said. Any advantage is a good one so long as its not an exploit. Try some different builds and definately team more. A decent PvP team can make a world of difference in how much fun you have. And lets face it.....fun is killing the other guy before he gets you.
[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
I turned my widow into a fort and got owned alot. Not because the fort was not a viable pvp toon but because I needed to lrn2pvp with it. My reaction times were slow and often found myself thinking instead of reacting. That had a domino affect on my awareness while in the zone. I was caught off guard more easily and as a result dropped faster than usual. Often without even putting up a fight. Time and practice should fix this for me. I figure another 20 hours of messing in the zone and I should be quite omw to ganking with him.
[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with you here as well. In fact, I am sure if I were to IO my Elec/Kin out, and spent more time in the PvP zones, I would most likely find myself owning a few myself. But, with the travel power suppression in PvP, my build is not what I originally intended it to be. Now /Kin travels are also suppressed, which half defeats my Sappers purpose.
[ QUOTE ]
I hope you give it more time and consider the variables before you turn away from PvP. There IS fun to be had for you. Not to mention, that combo just may not be "right" for "you". Try some of your other toons and see which you feel most confident on.
Best of luck either way. Hope to see you there.
[/ QUOTE ]
We shall see.
All I am saying here, is that if a new player hits the zones...not saying, let him beat you, not even saying don;t gank him, but what I am saying, is try not ganking him over and over and over and over....to the point where it just ends up causing nothing but grief. That was one mistake I was careful never to do with my Stalker back in the day, and people appreciated me for it. I would often get tells thanking me for not repeatedly killing them just because they were there. I did not find it personally challenging to just repeatedly kill the same guy over and over until he left the zone.
Only way I would do that, is if they sent me a hate tell because I killed them once. Then I would make it a point to chase them out of the zone. -
[ QUOTE ]
Please post in the i13 PvP feedback section (under Developers Corner). Ranting here will change nothing. Maybe the Devs will listen to a PvP newbie like yourself (by newbie I mean someone who enters Warburg solo and expects not to get ganked...and for there to be no trash talking).

Hey, why should I? It is not me who is crying all over the forums because PvP in this game has died. I could care less. It's your problem, not mine. I just figured I would be nice enough to show you *why* your precious PvP is dying.
But hey, by all means, keep doing what you are doing....I will just sit back and sip soda while you continue to chase off new players. /e shrugs. -
Ok, took a new build to WB on Freedom today to test a few things. I wanted to see how new PvPers that nobody knows is treated in PvP and wanted to also see how a build would work out.
Due to all the complaining I see on the boards about how PvP in this game is dying, I can tell ya one thing....you guys are not going to help populate PvP.
My findings....
Took a Elec/Kin into a PvP zone to test out the build. I am not IOed out, only level 37, and speced with SOs only, so I knew I was not going to pwn very many people, if anyone at all... So no big deal.
Was constantly ganked over and over. Any chance of seeing if my build was any good or not, was pretty much a nill.
Now don't get me wrong, I could actually care less, as I feel personally that PvP in this game has been busted ever since RV was released, and has continuously gotten worse since then, so I don't PvP much anymore anyhow. But when I actually had an interest in trying it out again, I get continuously ganked.
Now, I have a point to make here, and here it goes......Stop complaining on the boards because PvP is dead, or dying or anything else. Because if the way I was treated in PvP is any indication to how others are treated, then I must say, you have only done it to yourselves.
I attempted to act as though I was slightly bothered by it, because I wanted to see how they would react. Well, I must tell ya, taunting and "LRN2PvP" was yet another indicating factor to me that shows why so few care to enter the zones.
I am an old has been of PvP, started PvPing when Arena came out, and was hard core until RV came out. Once IOs came out, that was enough for me.
I just wanted to point out my findings, from a new players perspective. That is honestly not the way to pull in more people to PvP.
Anyway, hope this reaches certain people and opens the minds of others. I see too much "DOOOOOM!" sayers to PvP because of the lack of PvP population. If people are really that concerned with the population of PvP, then perhaps you should try not ganking on the new guys so much, and give them a bit of breathing room. I also noticed the people who are normally there, were virtually left alone. That to me is not how you get others interested in PvP.
Personally, I don't care. I thought about getting back into it for about ten minutes, after seeing how I was dealt with, I honestly care not to get back into it again. In short, chill out on the new guys. -
