Playing: since I Solo so much, Brute, although my lvl 47 Inv/SS Tanker is quite fun, but for soloing the Brute is just a bit better.
Playing with: Doesn't really matter, but I play a PB alot, and I don't enjoy not using half my powers or having to constantly worry about positioning because of a Melee Toon complaining about all the Scattering and Knockback. "Don't mess up my neat little wads!" Tank Players seem to be a bit worse about this than Brutes -

I tend to dislike this line of thinking as the explanation for low Tank Damage. 'Holding Back...', 'Pulling Their Punch...'
What? Are Tanks the only thoughtful ATs out there? What don't Blasters ever give any thought to the collateral overkill they may be causing.
I explain my SS tanks lower damage by saying that, yes, she is Super Strong, but can't build any speed when she punches. Kind of like a regular Human hitting with Brass Knuckles. It's gonna hurt more, but not break the target in half.
Lots of Tankers wouldn't hold back if they could do more -
to OP: you're lucky. One the hunt and kill mishes he gave me involved taking out 65 Carnie

In the CoHverse, Blue Steel *is* Chuck Norris. Check out his movie 'Good Guys wear Blue'.
-
Blue Steel's Powerset has one just Power, the 'I Win' clickie

Portal Corp formed when Blue Steel once sneezed, and the scientists studied the resulting Rip in the Fabric of Reality
-
Chuck Norris-ey, with a CoH flavor
States and Recluse got their Power from the Well of the Furies - and the Well is really Blue Steel's leftover Bathwater. -

Inv/SS by a mile. It's iconic, it's in-game all around solid, and I can go from min/max to comic book with a build switch, yet be solid either way. I enjoy the way it lends itself to concepts. It's what comes to mind when I think Tanker.

This, this, and this again... -

I think the new expansion will solve this.

Yeah, does this thread still need to be stickied? -
Due to time constraints, I solo *alot*...and I've gotten very good at soloing. I'll take my Human Only PB into Carnie or Malta arcs without blinking and do very well... I've done this so much I can make the most of all my Toon's nuances. I've timed it, and I'm usually only a minute or two slower in soloing a Cimmerora repeatable mish on my 50 PB than on my IOd 50 Brute. So, using my toons in solo situations, I'm a veteran.
On teams, however, I'm still a Newb in lots of ways. I sometimes get separated from the team, or I'll accidently aggro a far group more often than I should. I'm still learning how to use my Knockback in team environments to avoid frustrating meleers, whereas Solo KB is a valued survival tool.
Again, due to time constraints, I've probably only completed about 6 or 7 TFs, even though I've got 3 50s, so often I have no ideas what's going on or what to do on a TF that requires some strategy.
I guess my point is that even veteran players can appear Newbie in some situations -

Meaning you 3-slotted this? If so, not sure that was the best investment.
For my Human Only build I put one slot in it - that combined with Quantam Shield gives me plenty of Energy Resistance. For a PB, I can just thing of soooo many more areas those extra 2 slots would come in handy. *shrug* -

A few years back a friend told me that they will spawn if you have a mission in your que that needs to be finished from the K-contact and you join a team doing other missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wrong-O on your friends part. I've finished that contact's long ago and I still reguarly gift my Teams with Cysts.
[/ QUOTE ]
Just curious, do you have any missions unfinished? even a radio mish in your que
but even if its not true today it made a difference years ago, havent rolled one in like 2 years but not one cyst spawned has to speak for something back then.
[/ QUOTE ]
Okay I took your 'K-Contact' to mean Kheld Contacts. I've absolutely finished all those - none hanging. If that's not what you mean, then I'm not sure...
Now, I almost always have normal missions pending in my list. I've never really noted if joining a team with No Outstanding missions of any kind clears Cysts up - maybe I'll give that a looksee... -

What if the devs secretly put the big red ball in the "Going Rogue" Expansion.

Going Rogue features: Big Red Ball.
That's it. It'll be enough until the next paid expansion hits.

Then all the 'Going Rouge' mispellings would actually be on target -

Oh yeah, most of the time when Cysts spawn, they're actually a fun and refreshing change of pace. Sometimes, however, where they choose to locate can be slightly problematic...
Say, next to a Malta EB with a couple of Sappers near
In any case, I *don't* thing they should be in regular missions. Storywise, I can see Quantums ("Hey, look, cool weapons, and we gotta do is shoot squids when we see them") and Voids ("I'm a bounty hunter. My target is about to attack your base. Let me lend a hand").
But Cysts...? Are these the things that Nictus stay in to keep from dying, and to travel interstellarly with? Doesn't that make them, like, Uber-Important for Nicti and worthy of safekeeping and protection, entrusted to the most loyal of allies/minions/slaves? So, why is there one right here in the middle of this Hydra infested swamp again? -
Ahh you wusses. I just finished soloing almost all the Crimson Arc...with a Human Only Peacebringer!!! haha
Just yankin ya - PBs are a lot stronger these days...
In any case I agree with Rush_Bolt, Malta and Carnies (of which Im now doing the Harvey Maylor arc) are some things in this game that actually are a stronger challenge than usual...and that's fun. -
[ QUOTE ]
Wow these are still showing up?
I remember an old Dev post that if these are appearing out side of the Kheldian story arc to petition that Map and details to have them fix it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Must've been a really *old* Dev post - long since swept under the rug. Those things can (and probably have) appeared on every map in the game -
[ QUOTE ]
I'd be up for supporting it if, rather having it be a clone of the Radio/Newspapers, it were something more like micro story arcs. For heroes, you go on a 3 mission arc following a simple pattern for the 3 missions (discover, investigate, defeat) that is similar to the Radio missions. Villains have the same thing but with a villainous feel (re: they're doing steal, kidnap, beat up the hero trying to stop you). The big difference however would be that the missions send you around to different zones after you start the first (which is always in the zone you chose it in) and that you always fight an EB or AV at the end of it. The reward would probably need to be commensurately larger as well. Probably one of a series of temp powers randomly chosen for you, a merit or 2, or something similar. It'd simply be an upgraded and more interesting version of the existing radio/newspaper missions.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly. I also envisioned an EB or AV at the end (along with the occasional GM) - I just failed to mention it. These missions should always feel *BIG*, and give corresponding rewards... -
[ QUOTE ]
Er, what's the point? I don't see why it's needed to have the newspaper/radio work in every zone for a level 50. I don't see any real problems, just not sure why you want it. So it's kinda meh for me.
As for adding the Dev's Choice missions, what you're asking for is basically already in the game. Almost every zone has an AE building, the only difference would be in making them canon (unlikely to happen) by having them use random mission doors outside of the AE buildings.
[ QUOTE ]
With this, maybe I won't spend 90% of my 50's playing time in Peregrine - I'll go out and explore the world, fightin' ebil and all that stuff, like a real high level hero would.
[/ QUOTE ]
In all honesty, it sounds like you want to make a game change based on unhappiness with your own playing style. There is nothing keeping you in Peregrine, especially if what you're wanting is to run MA arcs.
The Devs will never be able to create new content faster than we can play it. Do I want more content? Yes, of course. I'm just not seeing how this suggestion adds anything at all.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you're a lvl50 Hero, you basically stay in Peregrine, with the occasional jaunt to RWZ for a ship raid or to Cimmerora for an ITF. To me, lvl 50s are the movers and shakers of the worlds...which means they should be all over the (game) world instead of staying on a Island run by a Cooperation messing with *things from beyond*. Villains have their own comparable thing in grandville.
Essentially, I just think maxedout Heros and Villains should consider the entire City/Isles as their territory/playground, and whatever would make that happen I'm game for.
The Global Mission thing was just an idea. Yeah, it's essentially the same as AE, save it wouldn't be 'simulated' mindgames (yes that matters to some), travel powers might still be a bit useful, and there'd still be a chance of a good recipe drop.
I'm not unhappy with my playstyle, but a mish is a mish. I'd just sometimes like to start that mish in Steel Canyon. My 50's never go there now except for nostalgia's sake. -
First of all, I thought I was in the CoH city life forum when I posted this...oops
Second, I guess the term endgame causes confusion. Essentially, I mean that the game *by design* has more for a maxed-out character to do besides spend all their time in Peregine/Grandville, RWZ, and Cimmerora.
I don't mean 'beating the game' by any level. Rather, it's the opposite. I want to continue playing a 50 on a much broader scale, in more zones. I don't mean to shaft the lower levels, nor make it where you don't want to make alts, but I enjoy my 50s, and I can fly thru Peregrine alleys blindfolded because I've spent so much time there...
I also made an alternate suggestion for this sort of thing in the Suggestions threads, if any care to read. -
I know why the zones were set up they way they currently are, only be having content for a certain level range - it's to keep the players from staying in just a few zones through their career, and force them to experience the whole city as they level up.
But once a Character gets to 50, that shouldn't apply anymore. A 50, as a pinnacle Hero/Villain should be able to explore the entire City/Isles and always get involved in the action.
Here's a suggestion: a Global Mission Giver, similiar to scanner/newspaper missions, that works in any zone. This tool is only available to lvl50s, but it gives high level missions to Characters no matter what zone they're in.
To avoid staleness, these missions need more variety that typical scanner/newspaper missions. And what can provide these missions? Perhaps the Mission Architect! Make High level Dev Choice Missions (that thematically fit in the CoHverse) available thru the proposed global mission giver, the contact behing the missions is real, they're accessed thru real doors, etc. These missions are real, giving Recipe drops, etc.
With this, maybe I won't spend 90% of my 50's playing time in Peregrine - I'll go out and explore the world, fightin' ebil and all that stuff, like a real high level hero would. -
I know, I know, this game is about the Journey, not the Destination, and making a gazillions Alts to do that Journey a bunch of times, but the reality is that *lots* of players want to continue playing their Max-level characters.
That well-known survey suggested lots of available things that for a lvl 50 char (global enhancements, etc), but we don't know how much of it will be in Going Rogue. Even so, Going Rogue just has a feel to me that it will contain an environment to keep a lvl50 busy almost indefinitely.
Again, I know, the current game can all keep a lvl50 busy, but we all know it's not really considered endgame. My 50 PB (whom I'm trying to purple, but really I just like to play) spends 90% of her time in Peregrine, with the occasional foray into RWZ, Cimmerora, or Shadow Shard. There's really no where else to go.
So, who's hoping Going Rogue will make a 'real' endgame for CoH? -

...you'll come across a cyst.
....and realize you can basically solo it.
While the rest of the team watches.
[/ QUOTE ]
Absolutely. I know Cysts still scare the bejeezus out of players (and let's be honest, if you run into one unprepared, they're very dangerous).
PuG Team saw one last night. Shouts of 'Cyst! Cyst!', and everybody started coming up with the plan to handle it. I told them all to stay back, switched to Light Form, and started waylaying it. I had its health down 3/4s and half the Nictus dead from my AoEs when the rest of the team realized it was cake and jumped in for that last bite.
Tanker commended me, but I guess he and many others don't realize that by the 50s most kheld players can handle all their special enemies pretty well. I go after any Void I see, even bosses, without expecting any help from the team.
I still don't like Cysts though. I can't believe this bug has been allowed to go on so long. It's a taint on the perception of Khelds that'll probably never die for for many players.
Most players, even those mature ones that 'understand' and don't hold it against khelds, don't jump for joy when those things appear.
Qs and Vs all day long, but keep Cysts to their special arcs, dammit
