Maybe I could do this - thanks
  2. Yeah, Ninja Run sure has been nice - I sure hate that gawdawful running animation, but the jumping is awesome. Hoping those 'stances' they're talking about for I17 gives some alternatives when using Ninga Run *hopes hard*

As for running around the city - yeah that's fun. I like trying to bound the rooftops when Ninja Running
  3. Thanks for your replies - kind of insight I was looking for before getting something that won't work

I'm a little leary of piecing together a rig. The one I've been using was pieced together - and I've simply had frequent problems with it (hard drive crashing, overheating...). If I were to have one pieced together, I'd want someone that was a true professional doing it, and I don't see much of a bargain there.

The model in my OP is going for $450-500. I'll look for options on increasing the specs mentioned, along with other machines as well. If I find something promising, hope I can post here for you guys input again. Thanks again

  5. Unlimited Resources..? Wow!!

    1) Heavily Customisable and Sleeker-looking toons
    2) Extremely interactive enviroment. Lots of things liftable, throwable, and Smashable! even building exteriors
    3) More interactibility between characters. Wrestling, Grappling, Throwing... and while we're at it... even SIMS like interaction for people that want it. Hey, Unlimited Budget here...
    4) Majorly editible Bases and Appts, in exotic locations, not just underground...or wherever current bases exists.
    5) Vehicles and Mounts (alot of folks want them. I'm meh on it, but some of my toons would certainly ride motorcycles instead of run if it was available)
    6) Make Knockback a MAJOR feature of the game. Clumping and Herding...? We're heroes not Shepherds! Make it so Knockback is welcome (it causes more damage to KBd foe; smashes the environment) but mostly make so we look SUPER.
    7) Remove Recharge as an element in most Powers. Make Powerful abilities have corresponding long casting/animations...and make these interuptable. So, the reason you don't attempt Knockout Blow every time is not becaue you're waiting for a recharge, but because your Foe has to be a bit off-balance, or caught be surprise, or else he'll foil your slower attack before it's unleashed. This would certainly add an element of strategy in a fight.
    8) More secondary effects of powers (stunning, etc.) to facilitate strategy using the above.
    9) Active Defense: Block, Dodge, or Parry... to lessen incoming attacks potential and the expense of your own.
  6. I've been having this exact problem recently (last week or so) on a machine that's been running CoH fine for two years. Haven't run all these diagnostics yet, but I suspected my video cards was going bad...now I'm starting to wonder.

Have they 'snuck in' some of these graphics upgrades and my machine can't handle it anymore?

It required the cummulative experience from all my characters' time to figure out a playstyle for it, not to mention, how to build it. Frankly, I haven't created a PB yet because I don't want to deal with that again.
Pfeh, I don't buy this 'Players should be experienced before tackling a complicated AT like Khelds' line. Kheldians are not anymore complicated than Masterminds, probably less so. Furthermore, they're so different that experience with other ATs (ie. getting to level 50) doesn't really help you that much with Khelds.

Level 20 is fine, but I do think having to complete an Arc (must be soloable) or the Moonfire TF would be a nice requirement as well.
  8. My recent experience is nearly identical to Soul Storm's. Been running CoH on my system for 2 years with nary a glitch, but the last two weeks it's been 'Locking up' during missions. Screen freezes and then nothing works, requiring a power off/on.

I cleaned out my PCs innards last night and it was pretty dusty, but I was thorough. Even so, soon as I logged in and attempted a mission...Lock Up!

And like Soul Storm's, nothing else I run causes any problems...

Could be my card's going bad. I'll try some of the monitor things you guys are suggesting, and hope I don't have to buy a new video card. Swapping one out to test isn't an option.
  9. Recently, my System has been 'locking up' while playing CoH. When this happens, there's nothing to do but power off/on my Tower. CtlAltDelete, Esc., don't work. Nothing 'unlocks' me. I've been running CoH with the exact same setup on this Machine for 2 years now with nary a problem. Even now, it continues to run all other applications just fine. But it's Locked Up when Playing CoH about 5 times the last few days...

I've looked thru posts here and haven't found anything explicitly citing what might be causing the problem, but I suspect there's been some small change with the last CoH patch that my system isn't jiving with.

So, anyone experiencing anything similiar? Got any recommendations or settings advice? I can give my system specs if needed, but again, it's been working extremely well for 2 years - until now...

    Thanks in Advance.

At the risk of Godwinning the heck out of the thread, the typical example of "absolute Evil" in the modern world is usually Hitler, but his position as Master of Evil was only determined by historical hindsight by the winning side. The majority of Germans didn't consider him evil, and he definately didn't. His leadership of Germany is still one of their highpoints in modern history (the economy was better than ever, services worked, they had order and law and went from a provencial area into a world power in very short order). However, the whole "ruling the world" thing and the Holocaust show him as "evil" to most people today (and yes, there are a sizable number who do NOT believe that). Had germany won WWII that situation would be reversed.

Evil is determined not by action or intent, but by hindsight.

To use another example, Manson is seen as one of the gurus of evil, especially after sending his followers on a murder spree to start what he thought was going to be a race war. But change the context, put him in a uniform and have him sending his troops to take out a cell of terrorists to disrupt a group of cells and suddenly hes a hero.

Evil is determined not by action or intent, but by context.

A third example... Susan Smith placed her children in a car and rolled it into a lake because, she claimed, God had told her too. But change the historical setting and she could have been one of the great heros of the Bible, like Abraham (who was stopped just short of carving his own child) or Jephthah who sacrifices his daughter because he promised to in order to win a battle.

Evils is determined not by action or intent, but historical setting and morals.
Some (CS Lewis is one) believe there is an inate 'Moral Law' that Humans (and perhaps other Sentient Beings, should they be discovered) are intuitively aware of. Yes, it can be twisted, reinterpreted, mangled, etc... but basically, among humans, some things, such as really serious Murder & ****, to lesser things like Not Showing Respect to Elders, are an integral part, built into the soul of every human Culture, and basically adhered to by any that survives any meaningful length of time.

Yes, we can run counter to the 'Moral Law', even convince ourselves that parts of it doesn't apply to us, but in general we always have an awareness of its presence.

I'm not saying this is true, per se (although I do believe it is). Basically, if you believe in God, Souls, etc., then you can believe the Moral Law is true. If you don't, you basically have to accept what Redbone says is true, and Morality is ultimately no more than a cultural preference, open to interpretation and historical revisionism. Akin to preferring Classical Music one generation and Rock Music the next.

Fortunately (or pehaps not), neither View is subject to abolute disproveability.

Whatever the case, Morality, being so personal and inward, is damn hard to make work in game
  11. Team Dark is like Some Villains that Join Vanguard. Just because your goal (self preservation against the Rikti) happens to coincide with what evert Hero and Normal Civilian in the CoH universe wants doesn't mean you're not a scumbag at heart.
  12. Socorro

    Vanguard Stuff

I like all the Vanguard Pieces...except the Hat and Face piece. That big round...whatever it is right in the middle of the face makes one resemble various species of beetles. All the rest...way cool though - several of my 50s are decked out in full (or near) sets.
  13. I think it's fine to expect a Brute to take the Alpha (and most Brutes should want to). While Brutes are not tanks, they are sturdier than other Villain ATs (besides some MMs) so...dive in there first, Brutes, and start Smashing!!

Take Alpha, Yes! Hold Constant Aggro, No.

This alone will help team survival, along with pumping Fury up fast...

Even with Tanks on the team, I'll try very hard to be first in and take Alpha, which seems to irritate some Tanks for some reason. Not sure why...any Tank worth his Hide should be able to take Aggro from me, while I get to build up some good Fury before he does.
  14. 1) Posi's Endgame System: I love playing my 50s, and hate that I have no more contacts left for some and must rely on repeatables, paper missions, and TFs. Hoping that the Endgame will provide lots for 50s to do. I know that eventually even that will get to be sort of repeatable, but if there's so much of it, with lots of variation, that'd be fine.

    2) Side-Switching: sort of related to #1. I want new Areas, New Contacts, and New Missions/Arcs for my 50s to do haha. Can't wait to take my Brute to the Shards...

    3) Praetoria: see above

    4) Epic Power Pools: really just want to see what's gonna happen. I do NOT like the Patron Pools. All of them feel 'added on', which I suppose is how they're supposed to be, but I want extra Powers that feel like an extention of my Toons existing power, not a gift from some Villainous Demigod. Not sure if GR will provide an alternative, but hoping

    5) New EATs: been hinted at. We'll see. I really hope they make Longbow EATs as a counter to SoAs, and that evil Kheldians/Nictus will be allowed on the villain side. Hoping we'll see new EATs, maybe Incarnates...

    6) New Stances: these have my attention. Hoping I can use them with Ninja Run. Love Ninja Run - HATE the running animation.
  15. Know I'll take my main SS/WP Brute to Rogue. Whether I go Full Hero with her or not depends on more GR info. Even if I do for a bit, I'll probably fall back to Vigilante at some point - I really want access to all zones .

Well, note that I'd prefer KB be like a damage proc - if a foes is KBd, they'd receive more damage (from slamming into objects, falling...). So, that'd go someway to alleviating the aggravation of chasing them down.

But it's the fact you'd be aggravated that's the showstopper. We've grown used to playing the game where herding and bunching is a part of so much strategey, so a change now would gripe people to no end. If the KB-way was the way from the beginning we'd probably love it. It's more visual, visceral, and thematic. I can't imagine reading a Hulk or Superman comic (or seeing a movie) and not see super combatants slammed into skyscrapers - it's just wrong

Oh well, on to the next dead horse...
  17. Yep, an old beaten horse here...

Solar Flare & Luminous Detonation are the biggies that cause KB for PBs. I eventually specced out of Luminous Det. because it was just too much trouble to use on teams (that it doesn't do much damage helped too). But Solar Flare... It sucks not to use Solar Flare. It does really good damage, but on teams I do have to run around to KB things back to the middle or against walls, and that's so annoying.

KB really does cause friction in teams. Yeah it can be controlled, but as long as there are ATs that need bunched up foes and ATs that spread them out, there will be some friction. Will this ever be addressed? Does it need to be? That's opinion, but I tend to think it should be.

My preferred fix would be for just about every power/attack to cause KB if it does a certain threshold of damage. We're Superheroes dammit! Things are supposed to be flying around all ragdoll like, smashing against walls. All this bunching things up...we call it herding for a reason, cuz it's what you do with Cows and Sheep... real heroic there. I know, I know... DPS will go down if everything is KBd. Make it so KBd foes took extra damage (slamming into walls, falling off cliffs) then. KB is, IMO, one of the most signature things about the superhero genre. It's dynamic! It's fun!

But this game encourages just the opposite - and that's a shame.
  18. As a longtime PB player, I've encountered them alot. They've run the gamut of being relatively easy to defeat to so difficult as to effectively end a TF. Higher level teams can usually take them out pretty well, but every once in a while they're a pretty big road bump.

But I don't hate them because they're difficult. I hate them because their appearance in normal missions is a BUG that the Devs have refused to fix for years. These things are supposed to be the Homes/Travel Beacons for Unbound Nictus. Unbound Nictus will die if they're away from them for too long.

The Nictus literally depend on them for their lives. So, you'd think these things are supposed to precious and well guarded. But NO... I see them out in swamps, caves, office building all by themselves. Even seen one in downtown Peregrine Island Parking Lot!!!

Gah!! Leave them in specific arcs/tfs where they thematically fit already!!!

    There...thats the way you ask
Provided there's no ambiguity, I prefer getting straight to the point. My OP request is quite clear. I don't believe for a second the Devs are confused about what I want and I really see no need to further elaborate. Yeah, I could have been more sugary and (_!_) kissing, but no... Make it so Devs!!!

Yeah, from just playing a DP corruptor a bit, it did seem the animation times are a bit different. That could make this a no go. Well, here's hoping the Devs can make this work. Certainly I couldn't be the only Thug MM that would like these attack animations. Be nice if my Minions could have them too (hey, wish big...!

Yes it would be cool to have those animations, but Masterminds need to focus on pets and pet training, then buffs/debuffs/holds, and then, in the end if there is nothing else to take, then MAYBE take a cone or other AoE attack power, slotted for debuffs. These types of attack powers are, however, patron powers.

Don't even get me started on petless MMs.
For the record, this nonsense needs to be removed from the record...

Your request would be much stronger if you prefaced it with, I prepurchased Going Rogue thinking I could use the new animations on my Thugs MM. Thats all I really wanted them for..yada yada. Could I please have that option? Seeing that I already purchased them?
Huh??? So, I can't just have seen the Animations for a DP AT, thought they were cool, noticed similarities in form and function for the attacks, and then thought, hey my MM would look supah awesome with those??? Hmmm....

Anyway, for the record, I did preorder GR, I did make a DP Corruptor and had a look. I didn't expect MMs to have these New Animations; nonetheless, I want them and I think the Powers in question are certainly similiar, if not outright the same.

Seems quite doable to me (relatively, compared to other tasks - don't quote standard quote rant stuff por favor)
  24. That is all. The 3 Thug MM Attacks share Name & Function with the 1st 3 DP Attacks. I want those Animations (at least the option of having them, a la Super Strengths Options).

    Make it so, Devs

I know for Certain 'Punch' did this. Alternated left and right, basically mirrors of each other, but it did it...
