Quote:True, forgot about that. The CoL might be borrowing some folks for training from the Resistance. DeVore works for both, after all.
Quote:Avatar of Hamidon.
Quote:There are some differences; they're supposed to look more sinister and corrupt than Primal DE, if you can believe it. I can't seem to find the design article on that, though.
Quote:What's 'generic'?
For Defence set: It'll make a good base for things, kind of like how the Stealth set can. It kind of makes me think of the "Sport" set. I like these kinds of things though. -
Time Manipulation looks quite generic.
-
First Ward looks cool. Are the mobs in black with the runes and guns also Carnival of Light?
Shivan in the Underground Trial? Praetorian Devouring Earth look like Primal which is a shame.
New tutorial looks chaotic.
Not entirely sure I like the visuals of Time Manipulation. Just looks a bit generic to me.
Defence set looks generic, IDF will be useful. -
Yes, Doms got Electric Control but everything else got something too whilst they're also getting stuff now as well. Same for ancillary pools. Earth Control was a side-project and only had one new power, compared to the new powers coming in Dark Blast for Blasters and Ice Armour for Stalkers.
Since the creation of Dominators they've had, what, four primary and secondary power sets added?... Compared to the seven for Blasters, thirteen for Brutes (fourteen if you count Titan Weapons - I didn't because it's coming "later" like all the supposed Dom stuff) and ten for Corruptors, for example. Even Mastermind has had six new sets added. If you decide to include the four ancillary pools added to every AT then just add four to all of those numbers.
I'd say Doms are a lot more balanced than ATs like Brutes and Controllers. The only thing that's remotely broken for Doms is Sleet.
Oh well, at least I don't have to buy the sets that don't interest me.
Now if there are other sets left to be revealed - specifically Control, Assault, Defence and Summoning - then I'll happily eat my words. In a perfect world everything would get a new primary and secondary.
I'm not angry or upset or anything like that. I'd just like to see my favourite ATs getting some love for a change. -
As long as we can switch it off. I like having my own music on in the background, I don't want terrible voice acting to ruin that.
-
Everything else is getting old and new stuff on i21 launch so why shouldn't Doms?
-
And still nothing to help sweeten the deal with the lack of Dominator proliferation. "After i21" doesn't cut it when every other AT is getting something right off the bat.
If there is something though I will happily eat my words. -
"Creates a localized gravitational field strong enough to Immobilize a single target. Crush can also bring down flying entities."
So it brings down fliers using strong gravity, which also makes them unable to move... Gravity so strong that it crushes the target... Yet you can still throw them around? To me that doesn't make any sense. Knockback/up resistance is something that just can't be won with - makes some powers useless if you have it, annoys a lot of people if you don't. There's no in between.
Also, you know what they say about assumptions. I like Gravity. The first character I ever made was a Gravity controller so the set has a special place in my heart. I just wish it was better and more unique. The set has four powers that stand out - Propel for being slow, Dimension Shift for being terrible, Wormhole for being fun but flawed and Singularity which I adore. I'd rather it was better.
I've made several Controllers and Dominators using every primary control set at least twice and whilst I do like Gravity, having played other sets like Electric, Mind, Earth and Plant it's very lacking. I've even taken Ice Control to 50 twice whilst I have a Gravity/Energy Dominator stuck around level 30 because it feels so helpless with only one semi-reliable hard control that's up relatively often. -
I actually had this happen when I was talking to a GM about another problem. He said that they were aware of it but keep on reporting the bug anyway.
-
I had some ideas for a major overhaul without actually changing the idea behind the set. A new debuff called Anti-Gravity is introduced which is added to several powers.
Crush - The same except has resistance to knockback and knockup.
Lift - The same.
Gravity Distortion - The same, except weakens the target's knockup resistance.
Propel - Quicker animation, small AoE splash damage.
Crushing Field - Location AoE immobilise and slow, staying true to its "Field" name. The field effect would look like a larger version of the Crush effect. Has resistance to knockback and knockup.
Dimension Shift - PBAoE toggle of foe intangibility and afraid. Same radius as Hot Feet. Idea is that things run close to you, phase and then run away to escape the wacky dimensions. Phased enemies go nearly transparent and are given the Distortion effect until they leave the radius and are then unphased.
Gravity Distortion Field - Location AoE hold and slow, again with the "Field" name. Also weakens the knockup resistance of everything effected by the field, even if not held.
Wormhole - Faster animation, doesn't notify until the stun/knockback is applied. Field effect looks like the current Distortion effect.
Singularity - The same as it is now except it can create a couple of small Singularities that are immobile, don't last long and don't do anything except Repel.
What this does is make the set have control over space, both conceptually and in the reality of the game itself. It can control where things are with Wormhole, it can control things close to it with Dimension Shift, it can control two areas at once with long lasting Field powers similar to Volcanic Gasses, and finally its pet is able to block areas off with Repel-like effects. -
I just want more options, all of these here would be great. Add Botanic Judgement to the list.

Never had any of these problems on Defiant, even with PUGs. TFs are usually done properly; if it's a speed-run then it's advertised as such. The only "idiots" we've ever had have left and gone to larger servers.
I don't know what server you play on, but if you don't want PUGs and just want to have fun playing your way then why not go to a smaller server? People play on smaller servers for several reasons such as community and the low intake of "idiots". In my case I've never set foot in any of the other servers, even Union when the list was split, why? Because I enjoy the community of where I am now and don't care about having more people to play/win with.
But yes, I also am the kind of person who likes defeating mobs stylishly. Only time I ever do speed-runs is if I don't have much time, but I certainly find them a lot more stressful. -
I made a swamp guy a week or so ago. He's an Earth/Earth Dominator. I can't get pictures right now but I used brown and browny-green animal fur, a black hood and frayed shoulder cape, black skull face (so it's hidden), the Omega detail, shoulder, hands and feet in a brown colour, the Minotaur tail, and the Slime aura coloured in a browny-green colour. I chose earth/earth because of Quicksand, Volcanic Gasses and Mud Pots (even if the latter sucks on a Dominator). The powers are also brown with tints of dark green.

The negativity about what Dominators aren't getting in this round of proliferation is getting tiresome now. So instead, let's speculate about what the "exciting" things heading for Dominators after i21 could be!
Primary Sets:
Dark Control - would also be going to Controllers unless it functions similar to Illusion Control, which I feel would be a disservice to Controllers because they would be the only AT not to get something negative themed. It would also mean holding out on Dark Miasma pointless. This is probably the most likely.
Illusion Control - this could be a major revamp to make it fit in more with Dominators, or more likely they are saving it for a later proliferation just because it'll be something to add when there's little else.
A technological or natural control - although being requested quite often it's probably not likely to happen any time soon.
-----
Secondary Sets:
Dark Assault - if Dark Control comes then it's very likely that this will come with it.
Guns/Weapons/Martial Arts/etc - Most likely to be low hanging fruit with all the powers available already. These kind of sets wouldn't really need a themed control set to go with them so they could be added at any time. It's possible that they may be waiting for alternate dual pistols animations first before going for a gun-fu style set. A purely Assault Rifle set would most likely need some new powers, particularly melee ones.
-----
Other:
Stone Mastery - I think everyone has forgotten about this. It's the only ancillary that wasn't proliferated because there weren't enough pre-existing powers to fill it out with. As the powers would most likely be buffs, debuffs and an AoE blast it could also pave the way for earth-based Blast and Buff/Debuff sets.
Any other ancillaries (e.g. Body, Weapons and Munitions) - will only come if all the other ATs gain ancillaries too. I like to think that ancillary proliferation will happen at some point, just not yet.
Changes to the AT itself - Synapse has confirmed that this won't be happening. I am happy about this.
-----
So these are the things that I personally feel are the most likely; either because they're major omissions or heavily requested.
So what does everyone else think or hope for? -
I believe the chest pieces were replaced rather than fixed, so that would be why. You're still able to load the costume and it'll attempt to fix it (by removing the piece), then you can put the "updated" version on.
-
Again, Titan Weapons for melee archetypes is also coming after i21.
-
Quote:Technically, they said after i21 because all the art people are busy. "After i21" is also when Titan Weapons is supposed to be released. Also, just to throw the barking dog (well, poorly trained puppy) a bone : the devs said IN SO MANY WORDS that the reason Doms didn't get proliferated stuff this time, aside from the tech reasons aforementinned, is that they are getting BRAND NEW, UNSEEN BEFORE, ALL SHINY stuff in i21.

Putting a dedicated sleep power in Illusion would be like putting a sleep in Fire - it would last for about a second before the damage wakes them up.
I'd prefer to keep it the same for Controllers. For Dominators, however, I would do the following:
1) Remove Group Invisibility and replace it with something similar to School of Sharks from Leviathan Mastery. Maybe combine Group Invisibility with Superior Invisibility.
2) Reduce the number of Decoys summoned in Phantom Army to two, this should help with balance.
If an Illusory Assault is made then Spectral Wounds could be moved over to that. Illusory Assault would be characterised by higher than average (for Doms) damage offset by Spectral Wounds-style healing. Most attacks would have a small chance of confusing (similar to small chance of sleep for Electricity). One or two attacks would have a chance of placating, to make better use of Superior Invisibility in combat. The powers themselves would be based on making the target/s believe that things are happening to them - like they're on fire, being stabbed, bleeding and falling to the ground.
Yes, Psionic Assault could work but it would be nice to have a unique offensive Illusion set.
I can dream, at least. -
Microwave Melee
Window Frame Assault
Media Control
Banana Blast -
I have a level 47 Dom that does Vigilante tips.
-
A lot of key powers for some Control sets aren't affected by Domination; for example, Ice Slick, Arctic Air, Volcanic Gasses, Earthquake, Synaptic Overload (only on the initial target), Static Field and Conductive Aura. I see no problem with Illusion Control as it is. Also, there are other things that could constitute low-hanging fruit, particularly weapon- or martial art-based Assault sets.
As someone who only plays Dominators (and very very rarely I'll roll up a Controller), I'm a bit disappointed with this. I've tried to like other ATs but I just can't get into them and I've tried quite a lot of different sets. I guess I like to be able to attack things whilst they're standing around hopeless, everything else to me is either too stressful, too squishy, doesn't have control or can't fight at range; yes, Dominators are squishy too but at least they have control to protect themselves with. I just don't enjoy other ATs much.
Instead Doms are getting hints of "exciting things to come". It's not as if all the other ATs are going to be shelved after i21 - we know Titanic Weapons won't be in i21 and will instead come after it. So, effectively melee ATs like Scrappers and Brutes are getting four new shinies to play with, Defenders and Corruptors with three, etc. Dominators get X amount, later than everything else.
What could the "exciting" thing be? Well if it was a Control set then wouldn't they also have said something about Controllers too? I very much doubt that they'll give us a primary without giving it to Controllers too.
Not going to quit or anything because that would be silly, and I enjoy the game but when I reroll my Fire/Fire and Plant/Thorns Doms for the new early game content I'll be a bit sad that everyone else will have new shinies to play with. Of course, I could make something from another AT but it would only end up getting deleted along with all the others I've tried to play in the past.
/tl;dr - Disappointed but will get over it.
Oh, and Devs hate Doms! -
No Illusion Control for Dominators? Not impressed. Not impressed that Dominators are being sweeped under the rug until after i21 when everything else (which isn't exactly going to be ignored after i21) gets stuff with proliferation.
Disappointed and unimpressed. -
I've managed to get three Doms out of Praetoria: Ice/Ice, Elec/Elec and Gravity/Energy. My advice for Mind/Psi is confuse one, hold another and attack a third, reapplying the mez as you need to. Also, inspirations are useful and easily available.
It's certainly possible to get through Ghouls on a Dominator. It just needs a bit of patience.
I think Praetoria has difficulty adjusters now too so you could try lowering the difficulty. Then there's auto-complete.
