Ya know each AT has it's own section in these forums. Would it of been such a bad idea to put a sticky poll in each one to see what people wanted? Can we do that now to decide what the next round of shared powers will be?
[/ QUOTE ]
There's the rub. No matter what the players want, it comes down to what resources the developers can muster to port and balance the sets in a timely fashion.
I can't see it being effective for the players either, as someone might not want something that another player wants. -
-
[ QUOTE ]
I really want to know if any of the Devs actually play Villains? Do they realize that PVP will be finished now and that heroes will just have to fight against each other.. Don't get me wrong I love that they are giving us new power sets but really did the Devs not look at this on paper and say weight why give Heroes Therm and lets not give Villains Emp. It just does not make sense. I will still play the game but Devs really need to take a long look at what they are doing to the villain community.
[/ QUOTE ]
Positron plays a Dominator, Castle plays several archetypes on both sides, Ex Libris plays villains.
As to taking a look at what they are doing, I can tell you what they are doing: Making more power sets available to all archetypes.
People need to take a step back and see this is only the first round of power set expansions.
As a side note, I doubt that certain power sets will ever cross over. Empathy and Poison for instance. Both are thematically tied to their faction. -
Couple points:
[ QUOTE ]
IT would be ok, if they at least told us exactly what will be coming over and when so we can actually PLAN out characters out. (as far as what we didnt get goes yet that is).
[/ QUOTE ]
You can't seriously expect them to tell you that. MMO Game developers never give exact times (unless they are idiots), because they don't have control of funding, manpower, deadlines, QA, etc. The publisher can't tell you that either because something that might be done might get blocked by either lack of resources or manpower, or QA might find a horrible bug that wipes out the database and that would push back any release.
If NCNC could tell you exactly when a powerset would be ported, I would think the team would instead use that ability to win some super lottery instead and leave.
[ QUOTE ]
And nothing worse than being "forced" into a combo that you dont like because its the only options left without replaying sets for the most part.
[/ QUOTE ]
Give me a break, "Forced"? Someone goes to your house and breaks your leg (or worse) just because you didn't make a certain combo? If they had the manpower for that, they would have more powersets ready. -
[ QUOTE ]
Actually, what they should have done was just put up the list of ported sets when they announced proliferation. A lot of folks were speculating on what was going where and getting their hopes up, which naturally led to disappointment when a wanted set turned out to not be on the port list. Just telling us that a surprise was coming would have just had people speculating on what the surprise could be and would have it's own buildup of hoped for additions and accompanying letdown when the truth came out.
What they really need to do is just stop trying to be all cryptic and 'nudge nudge wink wink' when they make announcements. I believe the majority of us are most likely adults capable of being dealt with in a straightforward manner. Just dropping hints and letting peoples' imaginations run rampant with speculation is just setup for a lot of folks to be disappointed and a backlash of complaints from that disappointment should not be a surprise.
[/ QUOTE ]
Someone (Lighthouse or Ex Libris) should force all the marketing people (assuming more than one) into a meeting, and have them write these paragraphs out a few dozen times for their complete PR nightmare (which is what this is).
[u]None[u] of this needed to happen. This time the attempt at marketing hype backfired big time. -
[ QUOTE ]
No, I'm telling you what IS going to happen. I have experience with all the powersets being ported over, the sets are not miraculously all of a sudden going to change in how they work application wise.
[/ QUOTE ]
So do I, but I don't claim to know what is going to happen. I mostly gave up trying to anticipate what the developers are thinking after the Controller nerf of Issue 8. Even then the writing was on the wall that powers were going to be shared with both sides.
[ QUOTE ]
I've played the powersets already with the exception of the psi blaster secondary nobody really knows about yet. You act as if all the ports are some brand spanking new powersets we're getting. News flash: They're not.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, but the developers have already said that they will be balanced. They are alpha testing now. Closed beta is a few weeks away. Then further testing will occur in open beta. It is a bit premature to cry doom for another month or so, at a guess.
In my mind that would be "kept to the same base level with AT tweaks" followed by nerfs or buffs as needed. This is standard operating procedure with NCNC, and game developers in general. Yet you are acting like they came to your house and personally roughed you up. Give me a break. If you don't like the game that much you can always quit (and should if you don't enjoy it).
If a power is overwhelming, it will be nerfed. If it is underperforming it will be buffed. None of that will satisfy people who like think that CoV should be the equal in every single aspect to CoH. It will never get to that level, simply because of the percentage of people playing just CoV versus those playing CoH and those (like myself) who enjoy playing both. -
So you are still telling me what you think is going to happen without one shred of evidence or one single moment of play to back up your claims.
You are telling me to play CoV before I make a judgement about it, yet you are unwilling to do the same with the powersets. Nice set of double standards you have there. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, it seems you guessed wrong also. You threw numerous blanket statements at villain-only players, while quoting my post (which I'd assume is responding to me).
[/ QUOTE ]
Blanket statement [edit] because of [/edit] several small quote pyramids made from your quote.
[ QUOTE ]
Villains received 9 new powersets, getting storm twice = 1 power. Yes, I know you're going to say 2 different AT's but I'm looking at villain power choices as a whole, and as a whole, we got less.
[/ QUOTE ]
Each AT except Brutes and MMs got 1 new primary and 1 new secondary.
Brutes got 2 new primaries, while MMs got none. There is no hero powerset that can be ported over to the MM primary.
[ QUOTE ]
Masterminds also without a new primary, so nice to see that the one AT that couldn't get a direct port from the hero side wasn't the one that recieved the 'original' new set, but they were kind enough to spend that effort on blasters instead, who already have a plethora of good secondaries to choose from.
[/ QUOTE ]
Blasters didn't get a new powerset. It is a dominator powerset (see this paragonwiki page).
[ QUOTE ]
You're delusional if you think there is anything close to balance between CoH and CoV.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think you are a blow-hard that doesn't know the first thing he's (assumed gender) talking about. I guess we are even.
You say that I shouldn't comment on CoV until I've played more of it. I know for a fact that you have not played Issue 12 (you are not a red name, so you don't work for NCsoft), so don't you think you should shut up and quit whining about it until you played it? -
[ QUOTE ]
So is lightning his IRL boyfriend or something?
[/ QUOTE ]
Would lightning have called me female if he knew me in real life? Please think things through before posting. -
Nice, you can't seem to be civil to anyone. Some advice: Leave the forums and the game for a few days. Enjoy some fresh air.
Edit:
Also I see you have no response to having your guesses proved wrong. -
[ QUOTE ]
First of all, don't speak to him like that. Second of all, does that make you feel like a big boy talking to him like that and calling him a fan-boy? Does that win your argument? Know what babies (real babies, not whiny game players) do when they don't get their way? First they cry... then they throw a temper tantrum and lash out. Guess you're done with the crying part...
[/ QUOTE ]
Just a minor correction.
<-Male. -
[ QUOTE ]
lol for your information, I play heroes also. My guess, is much like many others posting here, you spend zero time playing on the villain side. It's obvious enough that the heroes clearly got the better end of this deal, by a long shot.
[/ QUOTE ]
Wrong guess. See my post above, or just look at my character list.
Hmm, lets see. Heroes get 5 new primary powersets, 5 new secondary powersets. Villians got 5 new primary powersets, 5 new secondary powersets. Looks like equal treatment here. That you didn't get what you wanted is no one's fault but your expectations. Not the developers, not me.
[ QUOTE ]
spend some time on the villain side and let me know what you think, but you probably won't. you and the rest of those city scoop are too busy being fanboys 'ohhh the devs can do no wrong', keep thinking that. lol.
[/ QUOTE ]
Fanboy? Yes, I like the game. I have also publically pointed out where the Developers (Statesman, Positron[several times]) and NCsoft (Including Lighthouse) have messed up. Publically, on these very forums. You should not make accusations without checking your facts first.
We have several CoV-mainly players on the Scoop, including a few that play CoV only. The thing is that they don't seem to have this martyr complex.
[ QUOTE ]
For the rest, hey, I apologize for wanting balance between both factions, which would make the entire CoH/CoV game better than ever.
[/ QUOTE ]
There is balance, but people seem to want to gaze at their navel more than see that the developers are working to make both sides the best single game (and it is one game) the best they can.
Is CoV perfect, no. It needs more Strike Forces, for starters. The current strike forces are much better than some of the task forces. -

well at least it's obivous that you guys hate the villains now.
[/ QUOTE ]
You know after reading this entire thread, and several others, I have to say something:
Villains-only players are the biggest bunch of crybabies I have seen in ANY game forum. If the developers truly hated villains, they would not make sure that the issues had stuff that both "sides" could use. They don't need to.
They could stop all development of everything red side and devote 100% of their resources blue side, but they do not.
Worse, all these calls of "Devs hate CoV" come before a single player has seen Issue 12 as the game is still not even to the closed beta stage.
Whine moar.
The developers might not hate self proclaimed "CoV-Only" players, but after putting up with all the whining in the last 3-4 free issues, I would not blame them one bit.
[/ QUOTE ]
The devs stopping all developement on villian side and devoting 100% of their time to hero side makes a hell of alot of sense considering the hero side already had a one year head start on the villian side.
[/ QUOTE ]
You do know the phrase "you don't know what you've got till it is gone", right?
[ QUOTE ]
As far as Villian-only players being crybabies, please devote some time to red side before you make any profoundly, baseless comments.
[/ QUOTE ]
Can I laugh at your assumptions about me now?
Level 50 Ninja/Ninjitsu/Ghost Widow Stalker, over 600 hours.
Level 40 Bots/Dark Master Mind. Haven't checked but I'll assume somewhere over 400.
Several 20+ villains of various.
Ah, heck, check out my character list (with levels).
If it were not for forum rules against calling someone out, I could name several posters that seem to have a such a huge martyr complex that nothing will dissuade them that the developers hate them, or that they are playing the same code that heroes are.
Take the introduction of the Statesman TF, for instance. Several of the CoV-only people in this thread threatened to quit because the Arachnos Flier was included in it.
Yes, heroes have had a year more development. villains will never "catch up" so are you going to continue to whine that the developers hate you?
I am willing to guess that the amount of work that went into the VEATs alone is more than adding 1-2 new zones to CoV. Especially seeing that instead of 2 EATs with the single storyline past level 10 that the heroes get, I would guess thanks to the branching storyline that there would be far more done for the VEATs.
Simply put: Get. Over. It.
[ QUOTE ]
Have you spent any time doing mayhems opposed to safeguards?
[/ QUOTE ]
I much prefer mayhems as opposed to safeguards, thank you.
[ QUOTE ]
Have you pitted your villians in PvP against hero ATs that have higher Damage mods, more health and better buffs?
[/ QUOTE ]
I personally think that PVP sucks, but then again I mainly badge hunt.
[ QUOTE ]
Have you suffered through the same 7 dinky maps, when the heros have 3 times that many, and witness Issue after issue new maps come out that are for both villians and heros but never any new maps that are for villians only?
[/ QUOTE ]
Villains do not need more zones. Heroes need less. Seriously most of the hero zones are completely under used ghost towns. I would prefer a smaller amount of used zones over a larger amount of ghost towns.
[ QUOTE ]
I know everyone is entitled to an opinion, but please dont come spouting worthless blather about all the villian-only players being cry-babies when you obviously dont know what they have gone through in the context of new content being released.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't say that ALL villain only players are crybabies.
Also, who is making the assumption here, you or me? I have 5 villains that have been played since (including the level 50 Stalker) December 25th, 2005 (Christmas present, DVD edition), less than two months after Issue 6. -

[ QUOTE ]
I would respectfully suggest that you focus your attention on places that really are badly out of balance, lest the forums become The Villains That Cried Wolf. If everybody continues to wail and gnash their teeth at perceived insults from the developers, then the real issues go unheeded. And there are issues: but "omg we gave away Thermal and we didn't get anything" isn't one of them. Villains did get something for it; it just wasn't what you, personally, wanted it to be.
[/ QUOTE ]
But why should we have to focus on other things now? A forum is meant to express one's distaste. Also, there is a list of issues that have been produced many, many times, by the Redsiders, but nothing has changed.
[ QUOTE ]
...however I do feel that the lack of powerboost on villain side for buffs and not having an empathy since heroes got thermal is wrong. That is basicly my issue.
[/ QUOTE ]
Then why don't you encourage the developers to consider Empathy as a villain set next go-round? That would be much more constructive, and it'd moderate the repetitive "devs hate villains" whine coming from the rest of this thread.
[/ QUOTE ]
Personally, I feel the condescending lets attack anyone who dislikes the new Powersets peachiness is far more annoying.
[/ QUOTE ]
I never said any of this, next time please use the "reply" or "quote" button when quoting someone. -

Leave the boards for a few hours and see an amount of "Doom!" posts almost to the point of what happened with ED, before any player has a chance to test things out. I salute the dev team and the marketing folks for rabble-rousing of epic proportions!
I also like to thank the developers for this (hopefully) start of allowing more archetypes access to more powersets, and for the compromises in these (again hopefully) first ported powersets. That you have both heroes and villains saying the "other side" got better choices means in my eyes that you picked the right sets. -

Please remember to include artist contact info with your commission submissions. It helps Stormy get permission to use in the Scoop. -
You mean the the lower left half to the upper right? should be simple enough, the only thing I'd have to do is hide a few layers and recreate the outer ring. The outer ring is really easy to do.

This was a very clean, very nice-looking logo...
Hell...I'd like the logo just as a screen image (without the PPD).
Really nice design.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thanks!
Last night I tweaked the design a tiny bit (the back star wasn't "aligned" right om my eyes). Now it is a bit "pointier" but at least a few flaws in the larger version are gone (The large star is now symetrical for instance).
Here is the fixed version, avatar size (transparent background). (original version above)
Here is the fixed vesion, avatar size (with both the hero and villain background so people can see what the final would look like).
Here is the fixed vesion in a larger size on the hero forum blue background. (original version above)
As to a version without the PPD, that is easy enough to do. 768x768 version, blue forum background -
Make some Scoop-safe art, and bug Stormyone for an interview.
This goes for all the artists in this section. We want to highlight people's art and promote the diversity of the forum goers.
Oh and no prize needed, I would love to have the artist interviews back in the Scoop, that would be prize enough. -

Dare I say at least half of the artists here use WACOM tablets...

Well for digital work, I assume it boils down to Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc).
Other than that, I'm learning to use a wide variety of physical tools to find out what is best for me.
No I'm not a professional yet, but will be "soon". -

Snow-Globe,
I know why you despise copyright law, just like all the other web and graphic designers out there I've met, it means you need to actually get permission/pay to use cool photos, fonts, and designs on your webpages.
[/ QUOTE ]
Heh, not if I take those photos myself, or use my own designs, or use public domain sources. Which I do. As far as typefaces, I seldom use special typography because most people wouldn't be able to render it in web pages anyways.
I love how the the advertising industry (I've seen Bank of America ads that are a direct play on works less than 100 years old), Pop Artists (like I mentioned, Warhol and Lichenstein), and some of the big corporations like Disney feel free to ignore copyright when it suits them. Pop Art, along with Dada and several other art movements, liberally took others work into their own work. Like it or not, it doesn't change the irony that those artists ( or their foundations ) are now demanding of others what they did not follow themselves.
All artists are influenced by the world around them, and will copy. It is a simple fact of art. I have seen several variations on the dragon tatoo becoming live on a woman's back, for instance. Many with similar poses. I don't think that the picture you pointed out was the first.
[ QUOTE ]
Copyright law does have it flaws, that much I will admit, however, it is there to protect yourself as a designer just like its there to protect other artists.
[/ QUOTE ]
I am also glad that Canada has somewhat saner Copyright Laws than the States. Thanks in large part to Sonny Bono and Disney, copyright in the U.S. is next thing to perpetual. It was never intended to be such.

While I like her work, she is by her own admission, not a lawyer. I've seen that page before, the rest of those links on the page are broken, and in the past when I first found that page I have found web pages that directly contradict what she has said there by actual lawyers. I wish I had kept those pages' bookmarks.
As far as layouts are concerned, depending on the designer, I know some would argue about that. Also some would try to use patent law if the copyright attempt failed. I really hate lawyers.

As far as the Scoop is concerned, I guess you have missed my recent posts regarding permission to submit images to the scoop.
In closing, you really didn't need to make yourself look like a jerk. You could have chosen to send a private message to Anyweth, but instead you posted this publically. For this reason alone you have lost any respect that I would have had for your opinions.
