    Optional Character Slots Purchases
<ul type="square">[*] For a limited time, all accounts that log into the Live Servers will receive 2 free Character Slots. This is for a *Limited* time only.[/list]
    [/ QUOTE ]
Does this limited time mean today? The end of the week? Already past?

Can someone make a new account/upgrade a trial account and get the extra two slots on it?
  2. Actually you can also use:
    /screenshotui 1

This will keep the user interface in the screenshots until you either log out, zone, or enter /screenshotui 0.
  3. [ QUOTE ]
Can we get a shot directly up her crack, please?

    [/ QUOTE ]
    This, please.

Left out the new capes that match the new patterns in the costume screenshots.

    Good issue though.

I like the scrolling screenshots in the base spotlight. Is that new this week or did I miss it previously?

    [/ QUOTE ]
The scrolling screenshots in the base designer spotlight is Mantid's way of changing things up from time to time using photobucket's slideshow creator. You can click on the images to bring up full versions.
  5. I think that was the original poster's problem: the background layer.

The other thing they could do is copy the art to a new layer (drag the image to the new layer icon), and delete the background layer after erasing what they don't want. Then saving as PNG
  6. Hi all, it seems that Smurphy's byline got lost on this week's Scoop for the Market Watch article. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
  7. [ QUOTE ]
I don't even know if this would fit on a Scoop page somehow, but I'm tossin' it out there anyway.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Can we split it up a bit? Like 3 sections of 2 panels, or 2 sections of 3 panels. Or even having a panel a week over several weeks?

By panel I mean the large black dividers between the vertical sections.

All would link back to the original, of course.

Instinctual reaction to seeing any Red in the interface is that it is important. Even one email turns the option red, and it becomes distracting.

    Hey there everyone!

So we've been seeing a lot of people bored with this avatar we have. Now, we agree with you. It is BORING.

So here we go. We're going to hold a contest, starting next Friday, April 18, 2008. It will be an avatar contest. At that time we will provide screen shots of our characters in the game for you to use, animate, caption, whatever. Tell us what you need and we'll attempt to provide it.

Come Wednesday, April 23, 2008 we will close entries and judge which avatars we will use.

If you wish to submit a non-CoH/CoV avatar starting from the moment you see this post you can, however we will not begin judging them until Wednesday the 23rd rolls around.

More details will be released soon.
    May the best forumite win.

    -Koschej and Niviene.

As for the DJs using the email system, what makes the in game email so special that requests /have/ to be sent using that method? In game tells already handle communication so why is in game email so vitally important? Also all the DJs have out of game emails that could handle requests as well, and far better than the in game email system as most normal email providers these days have spam blockers.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Tells have one huge weakness - The Chat system. New tells make the system scroll to the bottom - there is no easy way to "bookmark" where you are at in them, and if you get enough, they start disappearing into the void. Emails don't force you to scroll, you can simply delete them as you do them, and don't disappear like tells do.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I make a "Private messages" tab for all my characters for this reason. The only in game channel in that tab is private messages, it can store 1,000 messages before things are lost.

    [ QUOTE ]
The DJs frequently do stuff in game as they DJ - using the in game email lets them be active in game without having to go and switch back and forth between in-game and out-of-game.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ok, so which is it: Are they in game doing stuff, or switching back and forth between in-game and out-of-game? Curiously enough, I think they would have to switch out of game to change tracks, etc anyways.

This still doesn't negate out of game email, which can play a sound letting the DJ know.

Still trying to see a desperate need for the in game email.
  14. Well, I'll try to battle my natural enemies (that glowing orb in the "sky", that villainous thing called "budget", and teachers' demands) to be at this event. (I live about 4 hours north of Seattle. So I know there is more than a possibility of rain.)

My interpretation of your posts has been that people are not allowed to contribute to a discussion unless every word they type and the interpretation of their posts meets your approval.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Not at all, but you should be very careful of what you type. While you may not have said "I believe that NCSoft employees have...." you did imply that they may have.

Go ask someone you know outside the forums (Mentor, Teacher, Boss, Parent), what they would think about the following:

"Are some of these insider traders from the accounting department with little businesses on the side? That might make sense to me considering they'd have access to the books right at their fingertips."

It might not be blatantly stated as an accusation, but it still is one.
  16. [ QUOTE ]
Or one could use GIMP (free, and full-featured) or Jasc Paint Shop Pro (not free but I believe cheaper than PS)

    [/ QUOTE ]
The beauty of Photoshop Express online is that it is free, online (you don't have to install anything on your computer), and comes with 2 GB of storage, and will do most of what people want to do to their screenshots.

In the past I have used Paint Shop Pro, and to be honest I don't look fondly back at the experience.

Come on now, this is a discussion thread, lets not turn it into a flame war please. It was a rambling thought in my post, not an accusation.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I cannot see how "Are some of these spammers NCSoft employees with little businesses on the side?" can be taken any other way than an accusation.

"Are some of these spammers NCSoft employees with little businesses on the side? That might make sense to me considering they'd have access to the game databases with character names right at their fingertips."
I can't see this statement in any other way than libelous.

It is also possible for adults to post without unsubstantiated accusations.

    [ QUOTE ]
If that was a joke, I apologize for taking it the wrong way. I don't know the poster well enough to know for sure =/

    [/ QUOTE ]
What I said was a silly way to not calling you out, but you seem to have wanted to press the issue.

    [ QUOTE ]
My whole point is that it strikes me as odd that I created a few concept characters and had them logged on just long enough to get into the tutorial, then logged them off. They didn't get played after that because I already had too many other alts to juggle, but I liked the characters so kept them. Sure there's a chance one of these characters could have been spotted by a spammer.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It was likely it was, or from one of the other publically available databases (as you say: virtueverse, City Information Terminal, Badge-Hunter, Paragonwiki, Group websites, etc). Face it, most characters names are out there. You will have even more once the City Vault becomes public. Then there is the fact that each server can have the same character names but have different people playing them. So Triumph has "Snow Globe" that might mean that Infinity might also have a "Snow Globe" that is owned by another player (actually it does). So they only need to compile the names and then run a script to spam them all in a short time.

    [ QUOTE ]
But I wasn't receiving spam mail back before I quit.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This means nothing at all. You could have been spammed a few minutes after you logged off.

    [ QUOTE ]
Again, just to be perfectly clear, I am merely bouncing off ideas and contributing to this discussion. I'm not trying to argue with anyone, prove anyone wrong, or prove my points are more valid than anyone else's.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I think you would be better served to keep baseless accusations to yourself. If you have proof (not wild conspiracy theories), then submit them. Otherwise, you just end up looking bad.
  18. I just wanted to let everyone know that due to some RL issues that StormyOne hasn't been around, he should be back soon. In the meantime, if you want your art in the scoop, please continue to post them here.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
I left the game sometime in Oct. 2007. Before leaving, I made sure the mail boxes on all my alts were empty. I also had several lvl 1 alts at the time that had never made it out of the tutorial, I just made them because I got a nifty concept idea but never took the time to play them. I stopped playing until around March 2008. I had cancelled the subscriptions on my accounts during this time, so I know the characters had not been logged in at all in that time. When I came back, most of my toons had spam mail, including some of the ones still in the tutorial. So again, I wonder exactly how spammers are getting ahold of character names when they aren't around to be logged in even occasionally. Is there a character database somewhere that I don't know about?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ok, just to be absolutely clear:

Issue 9 brought the Markets to CoX. It was released May 1st 2007. You stopped playing Oct 2007. By my reckoning that is six months that you exposed yourself to be seen.

During that time the RMTs were in the places I said before (Markets, hub areas) and in the tutorials. While they were spamming, they were also writing down (or likely just taking screen shots) names that were "visible" either by sighting them directly or by searches. The RMTS at that point likely compiled their own database.

Also if your character name is "easy to guess" all they'd have to do is use the "search name" function and write down the names of any characters taken. From there they could try different variations of those names. Sure it would be a hassle, but possible. These too would be added to their database. Concept characters would be especially vulnerable to this.

As to the in game emails when you got back, well that doesn't matter because the game delivered the emails because the characters existed. It doesn't matter if they were logged in or not.

  21. Yes, zoning or logging out resets the screenshotui flag.

Also for those that don't want to pay for photoshop:
    https://www.photoshop.com/express/landing.html

Adobe has made Photoshop Express free which includes 2 GB storage (also free) as of March 27, 2008.

Well, not everyone knows your global to send you an email. Some players have friends they want to keep non-global friends. Plus, many DJs use the email to keep track of requests, with 100 people sending them tells of requests, there's no way they could keep track of that! The email allows them to. So, no... removing email would be a bad idea. Removing it from TRIAL accounts would be fine, I know most of the DJs if you tell them "hey, i'm on a trial so no email, but can you play this song for me" that's a few tells compared to the 100's they'd be getting with no emails

    [/ QUOTE ]
Have you actually -used- the in-game email? They have to be directed to specific characters, not a global names.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Why no, I've never sent an email to DJ Shecky or Rain Fox, or DJ Angel and had them play my song on The Cape Radio. Nope, not once. Ever.

Could my attempts to send emails to @DJ Shecky possibly be the reason!?

    /sarcasm

Now, as for what you said, I think I see why you said that, I should have said "Not everyone knows your global to send you a tell when you are offline". Yes, I know email is for characters not for globals, sorry for the confusion, and my sarcastic nature.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You cannot send an in-game email to a global, you have to send it to a specific character.

Using /tells to a Global name is something else entirely.

Don't confuse the two like you are doing with both of these posts.

As for the DJs using the email system, what makes the in game email so special that requests /have/ to be sent using that method? In game tells already handle communication so why is in game email so vitally important?
