no base spotlight this week? O.o

    [/ QUOTE ]
It got misplaced this week, sorry. Bonker is dealing with something and had provided several weeks worth of base articles to run during his absence, but it accidentally got overlooked.

Seems the Scoop falls prey to the same needs as the Forum software: A good spellchecker.

    Congradulatios to FlyByKnight!

Yeah, I nitpick. Deal with it.

I promise to flog the proofreader with this post. (Joking!)

Given the otherwise superb job, I'm willing to overlook it.

Comic Relief:This issue is a couple days early (usually comes out on SUndays, right?), maybe they had a new deadline and couldn't make it.

Nope, Friday (always been), just it wasn't in the late afternoon this time.

  7. Happy Birthday, Niviene. I hope this last year has been good to you, and I wish you many more.
  8. He's off hunting froots somewhere.

We've laid plenty of lemur traps, but no success. So far he's avoided being caught for the last six months.

We wish him well, and hope he comes back soon.

Do you think the haters have been sufficiently shushed?

    [/ QUOTE ]
The problem is classing everyone that disagrees as "haters".

If the moderators disagreed with those that objected to the pieces, they would not have been edited. As they [u]were[u] edited, it follows that with the increased moderator presence that pictures of that type are no longer appropriate on these forums.

By calling another group "haters", you are continuing to make this section hostile to those that do not come here on a regular basis.

I would think that any artist that uses this section (and I realize you are a collector) of the forums would try to keep the section a more welcoming place for newcomers so that they would get [u]more[u] commissions. Less people frequenting this section equals less exposure (pun intended) to those that do not know an artist's work. I know this would be unacceptable to me.

I'm just glad that it appears this drama episode seems to be ending so I can get back to [u]enjoying and creating[u] art.

I was just saying that what this thread needed was some pedantry to cool the heated libidos that had built up.

    Well done.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Foo, you know as well as I do that one of the reasons people make art is to have their talents recognized.

How do you get recognized if no one wants to go to this section to see art? Seriously, I could care less either way if the mods allowed NSFW tags in this section. The current mods have made their decision. It might change with the next set of mods. Who knows?

On the other hand, I hate that one section of these collective forums is so snobbish that people don't want "outsiders" to come in and feel welcome. Especially a section that some are using as a springboard to get commissions (ie getting paid for their art).

For the record, Scarfgirl's blatant swipe at the scoop for [u]my[u] opinions notwithstanding: my opinions are my own. Also she missed that I have already perused the pictures (and sites) mentioned in this thread. I find that her baseless accusations are silly.

Ok wasn't sure exactly how deviant works since I am fairly new to it.Though I do know that photobucket had a little hissy when I posted a picture of myself with a phalic image drawn on my face.
It was a VERY mild picture, cartoonish in nature, yet they deemed it highly inappropriate.
For the first one I will keep it on the safer side.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Well, yes, Deviant Art does have limits as well. Those limits can be found at: http://help.deviantart.com/565/

I liked the sketches from Alex, but I think I liked the Turbo Ski-Kite one the best so far.
  12. Overall an interesting piece.

I did note one tiny flaw: where the right leg meets the liquid, the flesh tone is expanding to meet the ripple. Seeing that the rest of the image is in proportion, that would make the lower right leg larger than the upper right leg. That just doesn't seem right.

Keep up up with your art!
  13. Mantid is responsible for picture layout.

And Mantid used the photobucket slide show creator to do so for the base images.

Keep in mind, there is a difference between 'not safe for work' and 'not safe for forums'.

There are things portrayed in game that I could never display at my day job - fishnet tights, bikinis, high heels, and lingerie... even a dedicated slider for breast size. Having screenshots and drawings of these in-game items is fine for the forums, but would get me in trouble if they were hanging in my cube.

With that in mind, I would still like to see people tag stuff NSFW, even if it's just simple and safe stuff for the forums, if there's a chance it might be risky.

I can only imagine they are making the same noises as the Adults from the Charlie Brown cartoons

luckily I'm not here to debate I'm here to see art and chat with fellow artists and collectors and really have no interest in what someone whom just wanders in to debate has to say.

so yeah long winded debates full of sound and fury where I'm forced to listen to someones opinions and how they affect me ? nah thats what ignore is for.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Heh, I haven't "just wandered into this section". I've been here for a while. I still check this section almost as much as the other sections of the forums, and even more than I look at either the City Life or my "home" server section.

    Quoting Manoa:
    [ QUOTE ]
Also (correct me if I'm wrong), but wasn't this thread created to discuss and/or debate the "controversy?"

    [/ QUOTE ]
    That was what I thought.

As much as I hate censorship, I firmly believe in responsible free speech.

Part of that responsibility includes following the forum guidelines when posting links. If we ignore the guidelines, we set aside structure for whim. At what point does the forum descend into anarchy? At what point do we regret allowing unrestricted freedom?

Before everyone forgets, this section is not the artist/collector's community alone as some would suggest. It also is for screenshots, and for anyone else who has paid their monthly fee for the game.

This section, where people [u]should have[u] the most open minds being artists, seems to instead have the most closed minds of any of these forums. I am repeatedly astounded at just how down right [u]hostile[u] people in this section are to those that come in here. I have said this in the past and will probably say it again.

Some people that frequent this section need lessons in manners.

I don't think people are upset about the mods taking action and doing their jobs. I think folks are more so taking issue with people coming to this forum (a forum that they don't normally frequent) to create controversy over stuff that has not been a problem in the past.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yet what I see is a new moderator who has become attracted to this section has found stuff that previous mods (most of whom did not regularly post here) finding stuff that likely would have gotten whole threads deleted in the past. Instead of doing that Niviene just edited out the one link leaving the thread otherwise alone.

I still think people are overreacting to this.

    Edit:
Oh, and for the record, I personally would love to have artists be able to use a NSFW tag to post links to their artwork. I think it is an entirely sensible practice. Sadly, I don't think these forums can do an age check.

Maybe this is something the art community can ask the Community Reps to see if new forum software could implement something that would help. Like maybe mature sections of the forums.

I'm pretty sure it's two things, related to what you've said here:
    1) People feel like it's not just their forums but also our forums.
    2) Things that weren't an issue before now becoming one will always make people react in some way.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Ok, I get that.

However, it does seem to be a bit self-serving to object to the moderator action on a public, teen-rated game forum. Part of using these forums is agreeing to follow the forum rules/guidelines, yet now people are upset/shocked that the rules are enforced?

How about people post constructively (and only seen one post so far that did this) on how to continue to let people know about their artwork while keeping in the forum guidelines. The other thread seems filled with a bit too much sarcasm to take as a constructive suggestion.

I know the community reps and mods are looking into the guidelines, but until the self-righteous anger gives way I doubt anything would convince them that there might have been another way to deal with similar posts.

<quick reply to the entire thread>

Gee, get sick for a few days, ignore some sections of the forums for a bit and wow.

While I applaud people pushing boundaries through art, isn't this all (and the other thread with the "maybe found somewhere... at your own risk" images) just a tad bit of an over-reaction? Yes, I dug around and found the picture that started the current upset and it went past what the Mods felt the forum boundaries were.

Because of dealing with the community reps and having to pull pictures/content from the Scoop at the last moment (more than once), I know what it is like to have a work censored. One fan submitted puzzle that I worked on for a few hours reminded one rep of a bad symbol, and no amount of reason could get the entire scoop published that week with it in it. I had to change the puzzle at the last minute, and took blows from a user for how "rushed" the puzzle was that week.

People are understandably proud of the effort they put into a piece of art. On the other hand there is nothing wrong with NCsoft having limits on what gets posted to [u]their[u] forums.

There is nothing preventing anyone from making and displaying images elsewhere. So why the furor?
  25. Funny you should ask. Read this post for a great bind setup for choosing what shots to take when.
