  1. I'll attribute the writer's mistake for the fact that during a the few missions set in an instanced version of the area you can actually reach the top of the building by entering it.

You are right however that you cannot enter the building in the regular Cap au Diable zone.
  2. I would have loved to come, but sadly I have to get up at 6am for school Saturday. Given the 4+ hour drive, I just can't make it.

I hope everyone has a great time.

I do miss articles like the City Traveler or Go. Hunt. Get Badge. however.

    [/ QUOTE ]
We have a badge article for this week (Aug 29th), and one of our new writers is doing articles on CoV zones.

There is also a bug for bases not accessed for 60 days are deleted.

When you petition to get them back, you get a generic, barn red starter base with a rez ring and some empty storage.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I've never heard of this bug you are speaking of.

I've left bases on the Test sever for longer than 60 days and never had this happen. The most that happens is that you sometimes can't pay the upkeep. A simple /petition fixes that and the base is back to the last state it was left in.

I know several other posts (it is a frequent problem) that had the base locked, but the petition fixed it and everything was left alone.

I think you are not remembering what your base was like before, or someone else edited your base without telling you.

I have to agree with this
  6. While I left the links to the art themselves, I replaced the artist links to people's DA site with their "City of" forum profile.

I did this is to obey the 1-click rule the mods are enforcing. In the future I would like to be able to link to each artist's site, so if anyone can provide me with a "warning link" to their site it would be much appreciated.

Thank you all for letting us continue to showcase your art.

No, just no issue this week. It will presumably return to its regularly scheduled programming next week.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Mainly just too many people taking time off all at the same time. More people away means less articles to put in the Scoop. Yes, we are intending to put out a Scoop for the 22nd. We just felt everyone deserved better than the 2-3 articles that we had for this week.

For people asking what they can do to be involved with the Scoop (yes, this will be in the next Scoop too):

Hi there folks! One of the questions I get asked a lot is "How can I join the Scoop?", or at least a variation of it.

Well, first off you have to be able to communicate. I know that personally I respond better to a well written pm than to chat-speak. A lot of posting happens behind the scenes from scheduling to coming up with fresh ideas.

We generally want people to come up with an article every other week. If you feel like doing more than that, we will not stop you. By articles I would like anywhere between a quarter page to a full (Scoop) page. This roughly translates to 4-6 paragraphs to a dozen.

If you don't feel interested in those spots then you have to come up with a solid series of articles you want to do. I would ask that you would plan to do the series longer that just a few issues.

Any of these articles can be done in or out of character.

If you want to submit just an article or two while not being on the staff, that is good too. Write something up (between 400-800 words), and submit it. I can't promise all submissions will be put into the Scoop, but we will try our best. One word of warning: We have a two week deadline, so if you submit something, do not expect it to appear in the same week.

If you have gotten to this point I would suggest that you write up a few test articles, and submit them to one of the Editors in Chief (Currently only me). We will then share with the rest of the staff and decide if we would like your articles on a regular basis.

So there you have it. What we need from you to start at the Scoop.

Yeah... I've had bad results with the big chain places. It can be incredibly hit or miss as to if they happen to have a person working who knows what they're doing. Or if their printers are working.

The last time I used a chain place, they handed me my print and it was horribly streaky. I was like "What the heck is this?!" and the girl said "Oh, our printer is acting up. We have a call in." They KNEW the printer was off, but were still fine with printing sub-standard prints and expecting people to pay for them.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That mirrors my experiences with the chains. Have several great prints followed by someone who didn't even know how to rotate an image to print properly (No, I wanted that 11x17 to print 11x17 not 8.5x11 on the top half of an 11x17 page).

On the other hand I found a small printer that when they did have a few streaky pictures, reprinted them again at no cost to me, and gave me duplicates of all the good copies of the run.
  9. Just noticed an error in this:

City of Villains Valentines Day 2006 buddy code
    Hellenic Sandals
    Victory Laurel

(Note: For a previous valentines day event, NCSoft gave out buddy codes that would allow friends to try out CoH/V. If the person subscribed using the code, then both the referral and the referee would both be awarded these items. This offer is obviously no longer good, and is only listed for the sake of completion. However, the items in question are now choosable awards for the Valentines Day missions)

    [/ QUOTE ]
The Valentines 2005 code did not have any items, but was a full code for 15 days of playtime and you could continue your subscription without buying a retail code.

The Valentines 2006 introduced the items, and you can do the DJ Zero Valentines mission now (if someone has access to it) for the extra costume parts/badges on a per character basis.
  10. The Scoop is always interested in article submissions. We have had lots of articles from outside the Scoop.

Anything game related, though we tend to shy away from editorial/rant articles. I'd like to see anywhere from 400-800 words or 1/2 page to page in length. More would likely have to be broken into separate articles.

If you would like pictures or screenshots, you should include those with the submissions. Host them on a site like photobucket or imageshack and submit links with the article.
  11. Just to note: "Triumph Watch" is no longer being actively used.

"Triumph Watch 2.0" is the new badge/TF/SF/Monster/Ambush/etc channel for Triumph.
  12. We are unlikely to be putting out an issue this week due to lack of articles, so the next Scoop will be Aug 22.

For those that have bases they want featured, please send a PM to EnnVee. I am sorry if you have to send the information again.
  13. Thanks for the head's up about my inbox. I've cleared out some, and will clear out more tomorrow.

It's tricky trying to guess what people want from the Scoop.

    More Awesome Bewbage, perhaps?

    To paraphrase Yakko Warner:

"We'd love to, really, but the forum moderators won't allow it."

I'm sorry if my opinion offended you, in the future I'll keep it to myself.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You haven't offended me. I was just trying to find out what you wanted so we can see about adding more of what people want.

It's tricky trying to guess what people want from the Scoop.
  16. The have submitted their groups and talked to the people doing those sections (pretty much the base writers).

You seem to have missed the "Click here for more information." link at the bottom of the picture

    [/ QUOTE ]
No, I saw the link. What I said is still true. I do not click on links in this forum ever. Too many rick-retard-rolls and garbage. More than once I've had a link actually take control of my browser forcing me to actually restart my computer in order to regain control of it. Reports and PMs to the Mods went unanswered. I finally started a thread asking the mods why these links were allowed to remain on the forums. My thread was deleted and I was sent a warning, BUT the thread with the link that took control of your computer was allowed to remain on the thread for several days. So yeah, I do not ever click on links in this forum ever.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Ok, let me put it this way: In order for the Scoop to be put in the announcements section it has to pass by the following people (at least) the Scoop copy editor, one or both the layout people, one or both the EiCs, and at LEAST one of the forum moderators/admins (Lighthouse, Ex Libris, Niviene, Koschej).

Simply put: We make sure that nothing bad happens when people click on links in the Scoop.

Do you have any article ideas that you don't consider "fillers"? If you do, let us know. As it stands "I don't like it" isn't very constructive.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm not a painter but I know that I don't like Picasso. That isn't meant as an insult to Picasso, it's just the truth. My post here was meant in the same way, which is why I went to great lengths in an attempt to be courteous in my post. I'm not trying to troll, flame or insult anyone, it's just that today's issue seems lackluster to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Still not seeing [u]why[u].

    [ QUOTE ]
It's getting so no one can post honest and constructive criticism on this forum anymore without being attacked by multiple people. Would you honestly prefer that I post "Great job!" in response to every single issue of the City Scoop? Or would you rather that I, one of your readers, tell you how I really feel about it?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Highlighted the portion that is missing.

Going back to your Picasso example, if I had told one of my teachers "I don't like it", they would immediately come back and ask [u]why[u]? If I said I don't like blue, placement, or subject they would ask me to explain why and then ask me to suggest another way to deliver the same message that he did.

Even "great job!", "keep up the good work!", or "nicely done!" comments by themselves are not constructive.

You seem to be confusing "constructive" with "agreement". Nothing could be further from the truth.

    [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
Except you didn't articulate why. You said that this issue seemed to be more "fillers" and less informative. You didn't say what you felt would be more informative, or what you considered "filler".

    [/ QUOTE ]
Informative, full of actual information, more data and less Op-Ed peices. That's just my opinion, and I'm stating it only in response to your request so please don't attack me for my answer.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'm not trying to attack you, but we need more information to work with. What types of data, what types of information are you looking for? Right now a lot of the current writers are swinging to in-character stuff as opposed out of character articles. There seems to be more demand for that.

Also, right now with so many people away (it is Summer after all) maybe the articles you normally like aren't being done.
  18. Just to let everyone know:

Due to many unforeseen factors, there will likely be no Scoop for August 1st.
  19. [ QUOTE ]
Look, I may not be an expert but I know what I like. I'm not a professional writer but I know that I don't like Stephan King novels and I am even articulate enough to explain why.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Except you didn't articulate why. You said that this issue seemed to be more "fillers" and less informative. You didn't say what you felt would be more informative, or what you considered "filler".

At this point the only thing I've gotten from your posts here are that you are upset that you haven't gotten a response (and I think I've explained that in my last post), and that you didn't like this issue. Nothing more concrete than that.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
The Babes of War ad while graphically very nice doesn't say which server the festivities are going to be held on.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You seem to have missed the "Click here for more information." link at the bottom of the picture, the fact that the picture is linked (like past event fliers), and the link in the Upcoming Events (on the front page) July 26th "Freedom: Help Us Paint This Town PINK! BoW turns 4!!!" was also linked to the forums. I don't think we could have made things any clearer.

    [ QUOTE ]
I still haven't received any response to my attempts to submit my SG for consideration in the bases thread. It's been well over a month.

    [/ QUOTE ]
If anyone PMs me something and I haven't gotten back to them within 7 days they should remind me. Also people might want to send PMs to the section editors that are responsible for what they are asking about. There is a reason why every Scoop has the article authors linked, and a staff page that has who does what. A lot of the other staff are not getting any feedback or suggestions directly, and they should be the people you ask [u]first[u].

My job at the Scoop is to make things run smoothly so the writers can write. I wouldn't be able to review a base or critique a work of fan fiction or come up with a recipe to wow your taste buds. Sending me these request is a bit counter productive and generally not give you a quick response.

If you are having a problem with a Scoop staffer that is related to the Scoop's functioning, that is when people need to contact an Editor in Chief.

    [ QUOTE ]
And finally, while I realize that this is just my opinion, my opinion is that this issue of the City Scoop is the most lackluster issue I've ever seen. Completely devoid of anything concrete or informative. I mention this because I've seen what the City Scoop staff can accomplish. I've been wowed by them before, more than once. A filler article here and there is one thing, but this entire issue seems like all filler to me.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is a combination of Summer, some real life pressures, and people not submitting anything to the Scoop.

Do you have any article ideas that you don't consider "fillers"? If you do, let us know. As it stands "I don't like it" isn't very constructive.
  21. Given people like the option to sometimes have the SG items without a logo, we need an SG emblem that is blank (intentionally).
  22. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]

But it looks like none of that matters, so I guess we'll have to stop referencing our art there, and cannot have anything submitted to the City Scoop that's on our DA page that may also show a Fave or something that might be questionable.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I really think it has more to do with someone with a grudge or too much free time trying to make a issue with certain posters .

    [/ QUOTE ]

If anyone wants to submit a picture to the Scoop, but are worried that posting a link to the picture* will cause a mod action, they can send a message to an Editor in Chief, or Scoop Layout.

*Linking directly to a picture as opposed to the artist's main DA page should bypass the restrictions.

Edits to appease some other posters, not because I did anything wrong.

    Opinions needed.

    [ QUOTE ]
OK, maybe I'm missing something, but why place an ad in-game for something that's advertised on the patcher every time a new "issue" is done?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Because Lighthouse asked us if we wanted to do one.

Yes, I'm still messing with this. It is just that homework is taking a huge amount of my time.
