No, say it ain't so Peterpeter. Yours was my most read column. I hope there is a new market guru ready to fill your column space, if I can't convince you to return.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Sadly no one has stepped forward for the market space.
  4. I should mention that the Scoop will be taking a break until the new year.

    Have a Merry Festive Season!

The link for Paragonwiki in Kyo's column is leading to the old wiki.

    The new one is:

    http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Main_Page

    [/ QUOTE ]
If you don't see the Titan Network logo at the top of the page, blame your ISP, not the link. Tony made the announcement 2 days ago ( we are current sometimes ).

The http://paragonwiki.com URL is again the home of Paragon Wiki.

    [ QUOTE ]
As a lot of you probably know already, around three months ago, the Paragon Wiki parted ways from Wikia and has since been affiliated with the Titan Network. The only problem was that Wikia was still in possession of the domain name we had used since 2005, and had it redirected to an old copy of the wiki on their site that was no longer maintained by the administrators. Well, yesterday, that finally changed as we have re-obtained ownership of all rights to the domain name!

And to Snow Globe's latest response, well I'm sure the next time they want to give out a free respec they will be sure to check with you on your schedule and to make damn sure you've already used your respec from the last time before they schedule the next one. <rolls eyes>

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually, I suspect Snow Globe would just like to be able to rely on statements by NCNC's head designer. If that statement turned out to be a mistake, and Ex Libris had followed up a day or so later with "Oops, Posi was wrong, the freespec grant will take place earlier than that, and we won't be able to give much warning before it happens so you should use them now", people could have adapted.

But instead, on the 5th, we were told "don't worry, no rush, you have until the 21st". And that's the information we had until the 15th, when we were told "You have until the morning of the 17th".

Is it the worst thing to happen in game? Nope. But does that mean that we should ignore everything Posi has to say in the future? If he says "this will happen" we should assume it's the same as if I said it?

    ...

But please don't dismiss it all about "whiners" and "hey, it's free". We were told by the lead designer, whose statements should be most reliable, "This is what will happen". And it didn't happen. And we weren't told it wouldn't happen until the last minute. That's not good for the game.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is exactly what is bothering me. I haven't made any over the top statements in this thread and I have done my best to remain neutral and stick to the facts. When asked why would someone not use the earlier freespec right away, I answered why I didn't: Things kept me from playing the game mostly, and seeing that I was told by the lead developer that I had till a specific date I took him at his word.

I planned my actions based on Positron's statements. Those statements were not made 6 months to a year in advance, rather they were made two weeks ago.

Yet it seems that I'm being laughed at, labeled as a whiner, mocked, being told that I'm ungrateful, and that I seem to be lacking Christmas Spirit. I have two things to say to these people:

    * You might want to look up the terms irony and hypocrite. Instead of trying to insult/belittle/accuse me of lacking Christmas Spirit, you could have demonstrated an ounce of charity instead.

    * Some of the posters that have gone out of their way to demonstrate their ill feelings at my statements are now on my ignore list.

Also, if you want to show them anywhere else, like in the Scoop or on dA, that is perfectly OK.

    Thanks for that.

If the respec was really needed, why wouldn't it have already been used? And if you don't really need the respec...then what the heck is the problem?

Finals at school, work, and volunteer work for the first half of the month. I was looking forward to finally having some scheduled free time starting tomorrow thinking that I could do my fixes before the 21st.

Right now, Issue 13: Power and Responsibility is live on all servers. There are lots of new things to do and try out, so get out there and explore the new Day Jobs, Pact Leveling, Shield and Pain Domination powersets, and more! We’ve made a ton of changes to powers, so a Free Respec has been granted to all characters. I know we didn’t give much notice on this Freespec, so to make up for that, and in the spirit of the season, another free respec will be given out before the end of December. Remember, these don’t stack, so if you want to take advantage of both, you need to use the one you have currently before we issue the next one sometime after Dec. 21st.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Last line.

Again, we get (less than) two days notice of a change in the granting of respecs. Can you please tell whoever is throwing darts at the calendar that they need to pay a tiny bit of attention to previous announcements?

I don't want to rain on any parades, because this has been a fine issue, but some editorial spell-checking might have been useful - if the Writers can't provide it, then the Editors must.

Hey all, we had a GM write an article for last week's City Scoop.

This GM has written three more articles as well to go out over the Scoop. He'd love some feedback from the community as I'm sure many of the folks within the Scoop staff would love to hear about their articles etc.

If you have read a particular article or enjoyed a feature within this last double edition Scoop let's make sure the folks that created that hear your feedback.

In the end there will always be typos and formatting issues etc. but I'm sure there is more focus and additional feedback we can give these folks who continually deliver something special and dynamic to the community each week.

If you enjoy the Scoop then let them hear about it, what, and why.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'll add to this great advice with the following:

    * Let us know what types of articles you want to see more of in the Scoop. Of course if these types of articles are either not in the Scoop already or there isn't enough of them, you might get the response that you should submit something.

    * Let us know what types of articles you want to see less of in the Scoop.

    * Let us know where we should have added more detail (or less) in an article.

We know that people want more informative articles, and we are doing what we can to include more of them.

It took me a min to realize that it is actually 2 issues, Nov.28th and Dec.5th, but duly noted that each issue was quite beefy and I am not saying they had to put two together by any means. Thank-You for The Scoop!!

*were they released together??or did I skip the Nov 28th one last week??*

side note: Seeing a GM presence in the Scoop was encouraging....

    [/ QUOTE ]
We had done up the Scoop, but because of Issue 13 and the US Thanksgiving holiday it wasn't actually put out.

We had enough articles for the 5th, so we decided to put both out together.

We were asked by Ex Libris if a GM could submit articles for the Scoop, and seeing that NCsoft is a part of the community as well, we didn't see anything wrong with including him. I would like to note that his article had to go through the same process that any other submission does, except that he had to get the approval of NCNC before us.

This is one of the things we were working on before the angst of the last Scoop's discussion thread. I didn't want to ruin the surprise.

The text was quickly taken from this announcement with a bit from this announcement. I'm sorry that I did not get the corrected info about bases, but as you know from the base section that sometimes the automatic price fix doesn't work.
  22. [ QUOTE ]
May I ask what purpose this thread serves?

I mean, if you're just going to jump on everyone who says something that you don't like then logically that tells me that the intended purpose of this thread is only for praise of the City Scoop and its people.

So does that mean that we shouldn't point out (for example) spelling errors, so that you can fix them?

    [/ QUOTE ]
The problem is that we can't fix them after being published. If you can tell me how, as a player, I can edit a forum administrator's post then by all means do so. We just recently added a second copy editor.

Ex can't edit that post easily due to the fact that because UBB literally mangles the html layout when we submit it and when she posts the Scoop. If we were published off the forums, it would be child's play to fix in less than a few minutes. However if we did that we would have to find and pay for our own hosting, we wouldn't get nearly as much support (ie no mention in the updater screen), and I would have to find the time to set up and maintain a Content Management System. We are doing as much as we can with the resources we have available.

These threads exist to actually discuss the articles in the Scoop, yet it seems that instead of discussing the articles, people would rather nit-pick over the mistakes.

Given the tone of the post, it did not seem to be intended as constructive criticism. I did not take the same tone in my response. Instead I thanked the poster for pointing out the mistake, tried to take the high road and assumed that beyond the pointed out error they enjoyed the Scoop.

Also I was truly interested in finding out what "Blurgl" means because I can't seem to find what it means. I've tried Acronym Finder and it doesn't come up with any results.

(Edit: I've found "blurg" on Urban Dictionary, but not "blurgl". The poster didn't follow their own advice about proofreading, wanted to be understood, or was being utterly dismissive. Any way you cut it, it wasn't being constructive.)

Having said all that, I'll warn you now that you are getting really close to being put on my ignore list because of your continual attacks at how things are run and of my responses. As you seem to have some problem with me, I would suggest that you send me a PM and tell me what exactly your antagonism is with me.
