Woops! This is a fabulous QOL improvement, no doubt.
However, I posted this in the wrong thread!
I meant to say that in the How to silence specific game sounds thread.
Which makes my note on Super Speed make sense.
Running over there to make my post.
[/ QUOTE ]
Bliss please don't link a 250+ post thread as a link. If you are talking about a single post, link to that, otherwise a simple link to the start of the thread should suffice.
http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=3796307&page=0&fpart=all&vc=1
Highlighted the problem section of the link.
Edit:
The reason for posting this instead of sending a PM was to let others know that there was a 250+ post thread beyond the link above. -
Sayaki has been working on some other bases, and in some respects they have far surpassed the Dreams base.

If you [general you] cannot create your artwork without a battery backup, this is the very definition of a crutch.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is completely absurd.
Mad lib time:
If you [general you] cannot create your artwork without _____________, this is the very definition of a crutch. (insert from below)
<ul type="square">[*]a battery backup[*]a pencil[*]a brush[*]pigments[*]body movement[*]chisels[*]canvas[*]paper[*]metal[*]a computer[*]ink[*]typography[*]fabric[*]light[*]a brain[*]eyes[*]limbs[/list]Yup, completely interchangeable and all equally absurd. -
I'd just like to point out a few misconceptions.
I'll preface this post by saying that my chosen medium is digital. Be it photography, digital illustration, digital imagery, video, or web design. Even my web coding has an artistic side to it, just like any writing it can be as good as high literature or as trashy as a pulp romance.
I have Dysgraphia (and the rest of the Dyslexia family) and my non-digital art suffers from it.
[ QUOTE ]
it is infinitely easier to use a computer for art then traditional means. As bayani touched on about bad habits: Copy, paste, layers, undo are all potential crutches an artist can fall into for quick results.
[/ QUOTE ]
Layers are not crutches. In a way they are as essential as mixing just the right color in paint (oil or acrylic). Layers are process, not the end result. Okay maybe they are the end result if you are talking about traditional cel-based animation, but not digital images.
[ QUOTE ]
I want to take a break here and say im not pointing any fingers at anyone at on this forum, I respect and admire everyone on here and i mean EVERYONE for their own style and im not trying to say digital art is what is wrong with the world. the problem is the inclination that you can be lazy and still accomplish your goal, the process of drawing with pencil then screwing up and erasing repetitively is tedious annoying and character building,
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually, according to a couple of teachers I know erasing is evil and should never be done. These teachers are anti-digital or, at best, digital novices. The best part for me about this statement is that they are not talking about digital media when they say this. They are talking about pencil and paper. They believe you are using a crutch by using an eraser to correct your pencil mistakes.
[ QUOTE ]
some people don't have the staying power to become artist's because of a lack of patience, practice really does make perfect.
[/ QUOTE ]
To be fair I know a number of my fellow students who can't wait to get onto Getty Images and see what they can use for their next project. I personally can't understand why as it is much more satisfying to create my own work than to use work form someone else. Perhaps this is why I'm doomed to be held up as an example that "web developers can design as well" by some of my teachers.
[ QUOTE ]
with the computer you can make more mistakes faster, undo is easier then erasing everything and it leaves no mark on the paper. and when things get tough you have copy paste and a host of other quick fixes to fall back on none of these being helpful towards artistic progression.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think you are mistaken. The ability to make more mistakes faster speeds up learning for those who wish to do so.
[ QUOTE ]
Its all well and good if people have the strength of character to avoid using these things but seeing what the rest of the world is like the majority of people will fall into these easy fix traps and wont know what to do when a quick fix isn't good enough. that's when the whole becomes to deep to climb out of and people decide they cant be bothered, its too hard.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think this applies to ALL media. You may not like a specific tool, but there is a reason it is there. Like erasers. Are they crutches? Well if you talk to people who use ink as a medium, then they very well may say so. A better way to say it is that every medium has its own time saving tools and methods.
[ QUOTE ]
I like digital art as much as every one of you here but in my opinion a computer is a tool that should be taken into the hands of some experience. easy doesn't build character and you need plenty of it to make it as an artist in this world.
[/ QUOTE ]
Art doesn't have to be a character builder. The world can do its share of building character without an artist suffering for his or her art.
[ QUOTE ]
I don't want this to turn into a pissing contest, and the return rebuttal to be as long or longer, I know I dragged on, if you disagree feel free to say it. this is all my opinion, I am entitled to it. I know I may have stepped on toes but try to remember that it's not a personal attack and I don't mean for it to be directed at any of you.
[/ QUOTE ]
I think it was an interesting point of view. The main thing that I disagree with is with the "us vs them" (traditional=hard and character building vs digital=easy and servile) reasoning. From my perspective it is counter-productive and unneeded. Art is not the chosen medium, it is the message. -

Typography is the Debbil!!!
[/ QUOTE ]
You aint kidding. My wife's typography teacher at CCAD had never seen Star Wars and didn't know what a Rubick's Cube was. He was a piece of work.
Beautiful, perfect lettering of course. But I can do the same thing in about 3 minutes with a $30 printer that he'd spend hours pouring over.
The people most in need of taking typography are web designers, honestly. Sooooooo many sites out there with fonts that should never be on the same page as each other. SOME FONTS DON'T MIX DON'T YOU KNOW THE RULES OH GOD MY EYES!
[/ QUOTE ]
Sadly, as a rule, some typography just doesn't apply to web design. Part of the problem lies in the web browsers themselves. It is getting better, but the web has a lot a distance to go until it gets to the level of print media.
For the most part we are limited to a very few families of type, without the benefit of such niceties like kerning, needing to know the X-height of a typeface, or having the ability to set the line spacing. -
[ QUOTE ]
um is that water in that base
[/ QUOTE ]
No, but it sure does look like it.
What you are seeing is floated slow fields over colored patterns. -
[ QUOTE ]
I could be wrong about this,but..is the reason that the Developers havent done anythign major about these constant e-mail store advertisements is because COX Makes the most money off of them?
Is this true?
[/ QUOTE ]
Not really. RMTs likely use stolen credit card numbers to buy the game to get around the restrictions.
Sadly almost all MMO games suffer from these parasites. -
I'd highly suggest that you read High BeamÂ’s Flashback Badging Guide.
The answer to your question is at the bottom of the first post. -

I have a poster for my AE Arc to submit
Welcome to Paragon City: Part 1 - Queen of the Carnival by @Gobbles
[/ QUOTE ]
Reminder: Maximum dimensions of the Scoop's layout is 750x1000 pixels for a full page. Anything larger will be cropped/shrunk to size.
A single column picture is 350 pixels wide. A half column is 150 pixels wide.
The single exception to these are the Masthead page. That picture is 480x1313 pixels.
Edit:
I forgot to add that we will link back to the original in all cases. -

It's a clear indication that the Mods have reviewed this thread and determined that it doesn't violate the rules of the forum.

Or they are just giving you enough rope... -
[ QUOTE ]
Alright ^_^ thanks for that. I have one more question though.
It says if I use the paypal payment method I`ll have to pay for a month before it will apply the month from purchasing the game. This would bring me up to 68 days. I don't have the money to buy that extra month, but I like the idea of being on a non-recurring payment plan. (Just paying for a month and letting it end.)
Would I be able to start with a credit card and then switch to a non-recurring plan afterwards?
[/ QUOTE ]
I would note that your credit card would not be charged until the trial/retail box days are up. -

Whoever said that Land of the Lost isn't a copyright infringement because its a name or words just shud up. So if i were to start a pizza joint called pizza hut BUT didn't server pan pizza, didn't have a red roof, didn't look like a hut then there is nothing that could be done, PLEASE!!
...
"Land of the Lost" is a trademark which mean that it cant be used unless permission is granted. Google was recently sued because the OS they use for their mobile phones is called Android which could have lead to confusion with the registered trademark Android Data.
[/ QUOTE ]
Someone should have told Sid & Marty Krofft that they couldn't use "Land of the Lost"
Use of that title goes back as far as 1944.
But please, don't let facts get in the way of your uninformed rant. -

go to port oakes. and try to get at least 1 more person with you. they spawn like crazy. remember it is the guys with the bald heads and the ones in black suits with white hats. and the occaissional purple suit black hat guys.

Those are for Gangbuster, not Untouchable. -
One of her first 3. They are not available through flashback. They are a large Kings Row-like map with several carnival tents in the north section.

Forbin, as a suggestion allowing account-based group access is valid (and often requested).
It doesn't matter if it is possible now, the issue is whether the developer team can actually do it.
The reason the developers gave as to why it wasn't possible is no longer an issue (Cryptic wasn't really allowed to access NCsoft accounts -- this doesn't apply to Paragon Studios). The work with the AE account badges might have been a first step to the possibility that in the future that it will be reality to have account based group access. -

Meh. I'd rather be safe than have some patrol mess up the area.
[/ QUOTE ] That's a good point, but I don't see too many Carnie patrols.. at least not on the missions people usually use this method on.
I guess it's good practice either way (if the foes aren't grey).
[/ QUOTE ]
The last few Illusionist farms I joined were on office or warehouse maps. -
Meh. I'd rather be safe than have some patrol mess up the area.

To answer your questions:
It will be slow. No question about that.
The regular family bosses in Nerva are the best way to get it in the regular zones. The correct bosses are around in a 50-50 mix with the Marcone versions (you have to check to make sure Marcone is not in their description). Sharkhead has about 1% of the Paragon City Family bosses (if that).
The TV farm doesn't work since the farming nerf. I think there is a low-level mission that has regular family bosses, but I can't remember which one at the moment. -
[ QUOTE ]
Maybe the word "Fair" was the wrong one to use. "Acceptable" maybe?
[/ QUOTE ]
While acceptable might be the better word, I doubt (and this is not your fault) that most base builders would find a 500% increase "acceptable". After all back when it was 100:1 for defeating foes/completing missions it was still a 500% increase to convert through the registrars. We've been after the developers to change it since Issue 6 with no success. The fact that it is now over 1,000% should be a reality-check for the developers.
[ QUOTE ]
With the existence of the markets, inf and time have sort of decoupled, while prestige and time are relatively fixed.
[/ QUOTE ]
This is the exact reasoning we were given by the developers as to why the conversion really, really sucks. It was to block those with tons of Inf from buying a fully built base in a very short time frame. The reasoning actually has remained the same even with the markets. -
In order:
* Full team, yes that means EIGHT characters.
* Second or Fourth difficultly level.
* You can use brawl for credit, but any low-damage Area of Effect damage that can be auto would work best due to the nature of the summoned Illusionists. Basically you have to only do 1 point of damage before they despawn.
* Don't kill the Master Illusionists. Defeat everything else on the map. Move the MIs to a single area. -

We're not just pleased to have great new software--the best part of this change is that City of Heroes® forum dwellers are about to become one big happy family! That's right; we're integrating our North American and European communities into one board so everyone can be together!
[/ QUOTE ]
Ooh, fresh staff for the Scoop...
Wait did I say that in my "outside voice"? -
[ QUOTE ]
I get a number of things out of this:
1) Knowledge. Do people who hate 500:1 feel that 250:1 is a fair ratio? So far I don't think they do- people who take 250:1 seem to be people who are also OK with 500:1 . If 250:1 got me a ton of offers I'd potentially be able to make a case for changing the infrestige ratio. As it is... nope.
[/ QUOTE ]
Back in Issue 9 a level 50 earned prestige at 100 Inf : 1 prestige. Since the (a) XP/INF smoothing, and (b) the 50% cap on Inf lost while in group mode means that level 50s can earn at a bit more than 50 Inf : 1 prestige rate.
Yes, the conversion rate sucks that much. So instead of converting at ten times the regular earned rate, you are offering at five times the earned rate.
Sorry, but the Registrars are committing grand larceny. People that have done the research will tend to avoid doing that conversion. -
[ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't say the offer was complicated, but it did seem way too good to be true to say the least.
It's not a matter of shame but more one of realistic honest skepticism.
Let's be fair here: While it's interesting to see that there's someone out there apparently willing to be generous and philanthropic enough to effectively give away a billion INF just to be "nice" to other people you must admit there are relatively few people out there who would actually do something like that without expectation of anything tangible in return.
What people choose to do with their INF is their own thing.
More power to Fulmens I guess...
[/ QUOTE ]
Actually I do understand what Fulmens is trying to do: Destroy excess built up Inf.
What is Fulmens getting out of this? That is also easy if you have read Fulmens' posts: Fulmens believes that excess Inf is driving inflation up. To combat this, Fulmens has come up with several ways to try convince people to remove Inf from the system. Fulmens is putting Inf on the line to facilitate this.
I have not a shred of doubt that the offer is genuine (until bored or a billion inf is reached).
((Edit for bad phrasing.)) -
[ QUOTE ]
I think it would be a better idea if he joined the SG and made the prestige exchange himself after he verified the first exchange took place tho.
[/ QUOTE ]
These are words of wisdom that Fulmens should listen to.
If the person accepting the offer has issues with upping Fulmens' rank, they can temporarily assign base edit rights to the lowest rank for the duration of the transaction. -
I admire your determination to stick to your principles. However, I don't foresee myself taking you up on your generous offer.
