The Rogue expansion, paid or not, will have to be done well or it may subdivide the game population.

[/ QUOTE ]
Probably the opposite. I imagine it will allow you to log on to your favourite toon and join your friends no matter what faction they are playing. If you've paid for the expansion :-)

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't understand how your comment relates to the one you quoted. What did you mean when you said the word "opposite"? So the original statement can be translated from...
"The Rogue expansion, paid or not, will have to be done well or it may subdivide the game population."
into...
"If done poorly it may subdivide the game population."
The opposite would be "If NOT done poorly it may subdivide the game population." or "If done well it may subdivide the game population".

I think your response says "If it is done well it won't subdivide the game population." That is the same thing as what you quoted. Perhaps you meant to say "I agree"? Or am I missing something?

Tanks and Brutes already overlap in the co-op TFs, so letting side switches happen won't change things that much, but will highlight disparities between any ATs... so Castle will have fun with balancing powers, that's for sure.

[/ QUOTE ]

What disparities? Every archetype finds homes in teams. Some players are simply ignorant of archetypes potentials and are prejudiced for various silly reasons. I see no reason to change anything.

2} It prevents the players using up any number of slots and simply removing and re-adding them them before the 24-hour timer expires and the renting fee applies.

[/ QUOTE ]

No, no it doesn't. If the daily fee was above 5% of the listing price one could "game the system" and save money by relisting the item every day. However, the fees in the example are not above 5% thus it would be unwise to relist the item every day. Let's see an example:

My market slots are full. I want to sell a Black Blood of the Earth. I list it for 300,000. I pay 15,000 in listing fees. 24 hours roll by. I get charged an additional 10,000. I could take the item down and relist it for another 15,000 to dodge the 24/7 charge.

Code:[/color]

Black Blood of the Earth 300,000
Leaving item up Relisting
Initial Fee 15,000 15,000
Day 1 Fee 10,000 15,000
Day 2 Fee 10,000 15,000
Total Fee 35,000 45,000

1. I noticed the guides recommend picking either X-ray or neutrino blast, but not both. Is there a reason behind this?

[/ QUOTE ]

Both have fast recharges and will eventually be used mostly as a "filler" attack in between the bigger blasts you get later. You will only need 1 of the two to fill out your "attack chain" where you fire attacks continuously. Think of it like "Big blast #1, now big blast #2, now big blast #3... oh none are recharged yet... I guess I'll X-Ray blast." You can always choose both now, see which one you like best and "rechoose" later. There are ample ways to change things up at later points so don't worry about messing up *EDIT* You can't really mess up much anyway. Pretty much everything works. It's about what fits your playstyle the most.

2. Flying verses super speed, seems that most guides have flying in it. Is this a tactical type of thing or just a preference for ease of travel?

[/ QUOTE ]

Mostly personal preference. Hover will give you a small amount of defense and let you avoid having guys swing big swords at you. Super Speed is faster but you are stuck on the ground. Fly is slower but you can go all over the place.

I see no problems with a Rad/Rad soloing relative to any other corruptor.

4. Is stamina a requirement for this type of character or just makes life easier?

[/ QUOTE ]

Stamina isn't a firm requirement. Usually/generally you really really want stamina if you can fit it in. I highly suggest taking it.

Thanks. My apologies if these are n00b questions... just want to learn correctly from the get go >.>;

[/ QUOTE ]

The forums are the place to ask these questions. Feel free to keep them coming. Honestly, the worst place to ask these is probably Atlas Park and Mercy Island (the two starting zones). Everyone here would love to help you and answers your questions. Feel free to fire Qs at me in-game at @Smurphy (you'd type /t @Smurphy, Hello) You will probably get deluged with other people who offer to help as well I'm normally on frequently but not always immediately at my keyboard.
5. Has this topic come up before? I didn't think saying simply "no" was a good idea unless numerous others have said "no, because..." multiple times in threads that are easily found.

Why do you say "no"?
6. Please do not compare the City of Heroes economy to any real world economy. First, it frequently leads to political discussion which quickly gets the lock. Second, real life economies (not real life economics) is completely irrelevant to City of Heroes. Real life economies are completely irrelevant because there is no capital, no credit, no taxes etc. etc. in City of Heroes.

In City of Heroes there is a flow of cash in and out (Influence/Infamy) and a flow of items in and out. As long as both remain relatively steady... and I see no reason why they wouldn't... everything will be just fine. Sure there will be periods of time when the ratio of one to the other changes and some people call DOOOOOM but that's natural.

Flippers buying up everything of certain items at higher than the inflated prices due to the increase of the last 2 causes and then inflating the price even higher.

[/ QUOTE ]

Bogus. Flipping is not done like this consistently while at a profit.
8. [ QUOTE ]
Off the top of my head, nevermelting ice. Granted 5k and 50k may not be the numbers they are using but the idea reamains the same. When ever you see thousands bidding and only a handfull for sale on common salvage, that is a good indicator someone is trying to get a monopoly.

[/ QUOTE ]

Or that is an indicator that the previous balance of Supply and Demand has changed and market prices lag behind because players are slow to adapt to change. Can you think of any reason why supply and demand may have changed on these items? If flippers are causing a shortage on these items then Supply should come crashing in a big flood and the price should plummet, right? This inflated price would be temporary if this change is due to flippers, right?

Sometimes you say supply and demand is at work. Sometimes you blame flippers. Can you reconcile these two? I want to know how you understand them co-existing.
9. [ QUOTE ]

The main reason that prices are so high is a few people loading up all their toons and buying every bit of 1 type of salvage they can get at say 5k and selling for 50k or higher. That is not a problem that can be easily fixed by the devs or I imagine it would not currently be an issue.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't believe you. Name a salvage this is occurring on.
10. [ QUOTE ]
Devs? Start selling an infinite amount of every recipe and every bit of salvage at a set price for a 3 week period once every six months. Sell it where you think the prices should be.

[/ QUOTE ]

The devs have created the award system to give what they believe is the appropriate award for the appropriate amount of time.

If the devs wanted those items to be sold at specific prices they would have created a store. They have not created a store. Thus, the devs do not want those items sold as specific prices.

If P then Q.
Not Q.
Therefore, Not P.

[ QUOTE ]
Casual gamers won't need to farm money,

[/ QUOTE ]
Players don't need to farm to make money to afford these prices. Players need to sell items to afford to buy items. Due to the 10% market fee you need to find items of total value worth 10% more than what you want. It's that simple. If you want something and think you should be able to buy it than find something to sell. Anyone can find stuff to sell on the market. There is no need to farm.

[ QUOTE ]

and the market will be a happier place.

[/ QUOTE ]
If by "happier place" you mean "store" then I agree.

12. So your plan is to replace one power that you think everyone skips with another power that everyone skips?
13. I think he was commenting on the people who are vocal on their opposition to the market but have irrational, illogical and simply silly reasons for opposing the market. There are rational and logical reasons not to use merge the markets. I don't think he was complaining about them however.
14. [ QUOTE ]
Which is yet another problem. IOs were nerfed in PvP. now why do you suppose that is? Maybe one side or the other was unable to consistently get the IOs they needed to build out their characters for a reasonable amount?

Nope. Simply not true.

2) When starting a ITF, it is not recommended that you buff the mobs, debuff the players, and turn off enhancements.

Yeah. Only some truly incompetent would do something like that... Though I might get a crazy group together and try that sometime. Our setup last night might have pulled it off. It wouldn't have been all that fun though.
16. I recently purchased the services of Moderator 8 at the Justice Player Auction. I was excited. I was pumped. I was going to take Moderator 8 on an Imperious Task Force with a bunch of my friends.

Moderator 8 said he had skills. Moderator 8 said he had talent. We decided to crank the difficulty up to 11 to test his might. Imperious Task Force. Invincible/Relentless. Enemies Buffed. Players Debuffed.
No sissies.
No whining.
No waiting.
No strategy.
No rules.

Thanks for joining us Moderator 8. I thought you said you were a supportive teammate. j00 said u he4lzor?!
Moderator 8 later flung himself ruthlessly into battle. Single handily nuking a pack with mushroom cloud goodness. He also helped devastate Romulus with more nukes. My favorite part was when we busted out our cunning plan on the third mission. What have we here? Sadly, M8 wasn't ready for the action and quickly laid down on the job. We had Fallout ready and quickly got M8 back on his feet. He died again seconds later. Fixed a 2nd time. And dead a 3rd time. Nice work!

The group battled on. Friends were lost. Enemies defeated. Fights won. In the end we finished with 131 Deaths in 77 minutes.

My friends and I all had a great time! I look forward to posting a highlight video and might even post the full version as well. Thanks to Moderator 8 for donating his time, fighting the good fight and getting his faced rubbed in the dirt a few... hundred... times.

He didn't say inf/time he said inf/level.

[/ QUOTE ]Same thing. (Edit: Specifically, the time it takes you to gain a given level depends more on your experience with the game than playing a Hero or a Villain. See comparisons between playtime to 50 for someone's first level 50 and their 5th)

[/ QUOTE ]

It's not quite the same thing. There is a stated imbalance between how many merits are earned 1-50 on both sides. However, assuming that the Merit system does work on general average times, Merits per minute are roughly equivalent across the board. I don't think there's any "earning potential" barrier barring a market merger. But there is a distinction in items earned from 1-50 as opposed to items earned per hour.

[ QUOTE ]
I'm not trying to hurt the market, I'm just more interested in being a super powered being battling other super powered beings. That's what brought me to this game, and that's a good part of what keeps me here, the other major part of that being the people in RO.

[/ QUOTE ]

Correct me if I'm mistaken... I thought you said that you do not use the markets now but you would after a merger. Why is that? If you don't like using the markets because you'd rather get down and dirty and beat the snot out of stuff that's fine. If you don't use the markets because of lack of competition or flippers or something that's just silliness.
18. You don't need to play City of Day traders to get items. The markets aren't going down the drain. Your refusal to use the markets hurts you far more than it hurts the market. You are a drop of water next to an ocean. There are thousands of market users and much competition for nearly every item. New players have ample opportunity to buy and sell and afford items. All the "markets suck" and "markets are screwed" are people complaining just to complain. There's plenty of stuff on the market. There are plenty of ways to get items. Yes, some items are expensive. Yes, some items are rare.

I have no idea what items you, specifically, want or think are lacking on the market but most people who do complain don't actually find any of those items themselves. For example if you think you should have 10 purples from the market you should find 10 purples. If you think you should have 20 low level Pool Cs you should generate 20 low level Pool Cs. Find stuff, sell it, buy what you want. If you can't afford it you don't deserve it. You can't show up to the table with nothing and walk away with something. If the devs did think everyone should have everything they wanted items would simply be free. Nothing wrong with wanting everything to be free but the devs want you to work towards goals of piles of IOs and not obtain it instantly.

The market swings both ways. If you think there are huge holes in the market go out into the world and make those items and sell sell sell. If you think something is overpriced go out there and find it. Cash in.
19. Efficiency is not necessarily the goal. Some people like playing the game within a game. Merging the markets severely hurts one "mini-game" in City of Heroes.
20. [ QUOTE ]
lets see, the nearest event that caused this surge was the winter event. and of course dual builds. i havent seen anything drop yet.

and here is where the real problem lies: for all of you that can afford things on the market whitout having to wipe the sweat off your brow, take a magical trip back to the land of the new/casual gamer. ever wonder why there are so few people that use the markets? when going in as a new/casual player you get overwhelmed by the prices for the things that are suppossed to be low lv things.

the problem is that just because you all have this obsured bank role, doesn't mean everyone else does. or that everyone should play that way. i have talked tpo people who i've seen go into WW/BM and left 5 secs after being there and asked them why and gotten this exact reason: everything is to high priced. that is from new/casual gamers. not my own feelings as do use the markets.

but seriously, roll a new toon, or not, and go look at the market as a new player with no knowledge of flipping or anything like that. now think about merging the market from the red side look, the one bill and i are using, if blue already has more money then red side, who do you think will win the Market war? blue side every time.

until red side can equal blue side buying/selling power, there is no way i can support a market merger. and seeing as how red side will never equal blue side, then no merger will ever happen.

[/ QUOTE ]

You mean it's hard to start a toon and get money when all the common salvage you find sells for huge amounts of money?

Don't higher prices redside mean villains are able to afford higher prices? Doesn't that mean heroes would be disadvantaged?

I don't mind logical reasons against a merged market. Reasons such as "but prices will go up higher than both" and "one side is at a noticeable disadvantage" are simply wrong. The reasons supporting these claims are simply untrue, incompetence or stupidity.
21. [ QUOTE ]
Anywhere Blue has active trade higher then villains the price would not drop because heroes have more buying and selling power.

[/ QUOTE ]

This can't work. I will demonstrate to you why slowly. I'm going to walk you through this one step at a time. We're going to go slowly. We will go slowly because you need to build on simple concepts. I need to make sure you understand the simple concepts.

First...
Miracle +Regeneration Recipe Blueside trades for around 60-65M. Prices above this are "too high". They are too high because more wish to sell than to buy. Prices below this are "too slow." They are too low because more wish to buy than to sell. Thus, prices are where they are on each side of the market because of Supply and Demand. Prices tend to go towards, but may not be always exactly at the Equilibrium Price (the point where Supply and Demand Cross).

Is this true? Anything wrong with these statements?
22. Positron stated that initially that Heroes had existed for several years and villainside was in its infancy. He stated that initially they wished to keep the markets separate but might revisit the topic at a later date. At the time, datamining showed that because Heroes existed for so much longer there was much more wealth accumulated heroside and it was thought that Villains would be unable to compete. Clearly, villains would have no problem competing with hero buyers now.

Then probably a year or so after the markets were created Ex Libris stated that she preferred a more dynamic market place (unmerged) than a more stable market place (merged). This opinion is very rational and based on economics. A merged market is more stable. An unmerged market is more dynamic. These states of the market are due to increased competition. More competition is more stability.

I believe my memory is accurate on these two statements. If my post is misleading or stated in slightly the wrong way than, anyone, feel free to correct me.
23. [ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Let's add some volume. Heroside there are probably 5-10 exchanges of Miracles a day. Currently there has only been 1 so far today. Villainside there are probably 2-3 a day. Yesterday and today have had 2 total.

[/ QUOTE ] Without dates I have no idea how he got 5-10 exchanges per day off of the 1 sale. He says The other side has been sees 2-3 sales a day...based on the fact 2 have been sold int he last two days.

To show how this market flows you need actual data. The people with this data went "woahhh...no".

[/ QUOTE ]

Look up the data yourself and provide alternatives. I would be very pleased if you would provide accurate data. As you can see by my use of "probably" and "let's say" that I was making numbers up. I was making up these numbers as general estimations of averages to enlighten you on how economics works. Please, feel free to make up your own numbers that somehow show that the price will NOT go between the two original prices. No matter what numbers you make up, and please go ahead a try, the resulting price will be between the two original prices.

In the most simple understanding possible think of two bowls of soup. One bowl is really big and really hot. We'll call this "Hero Soup." One bowl is small and warm. We'll call this "villain soup." Now pour the two together. We'll call this "merged soup."

The "merged soup" is not as hot as "Hero soup". The "merged soup" is more hot than the "villain soup. Because the "hero soup" is much bigger than the "villain soup" the "merged soup's" temperature is much closer to the original "hero soup" than the "villain soup."
24. [ QUOTE ]

The mods have said merging would be bad.

[/ QUOTE ]

No they have not.
