I added the word "private" simply to indicate "not on CoH boards". I guess it is misleading.
Scroll Down through this thread. That was pretty hardcore. Duo Imperious TF Invincible no temps, no Imperious, no Ranged blasting Nictus and no Confuse.
*EDIT*

I've actually been working on it... in all honesty. There's a thread on the Repeat Offender private boards. Right now my odds aren't looking good. The Perma-Dom idea fell through because I could barely perma-hold 52 AVs and 53s seemed just out of reach. Right now I guess my best bet is to take a Brute and single pull the final mission. I don't have the right Brute at 50 to try though. I also don't want to practice single pulling.

Perma-hold.....
Perma-sleep, perhaps? If theres a way, I bet you'll find it (even if there's not 'sposed to be, actually).
[/ QUOTE ]
The brainstorming plan was to perma-sleep them with my mind dom. Fire one sleep, run far away, snipe one. Pull it far away and Perma-Hold it. I just was a tad short on being able to perma-hold one.
*EDIT*2 Ooooh.... I believe when you sleep them with mesmerize they can fire one shot in a moment of wakefulness. Maybe I can sleep all 8, pull one. Then chain Mesmerize and fix myself up if/when they hit me... hm.... -

Ding 38, about to be 39. I took them on an Imperious Task Force where they stood at the door and malefactored some 50s down to 38. Essentially it was a 5-man Invincible Players Debuffed spawned for 8 ITF. We mauled it. Though only got about 1 level worth of XP for the Pacters.

If you don't care about the looks and don't care about the feel what do you care about? The looks? Is that the only thing left?

I have always said the drop rate is too low. The devs rates suck, imo. But it dont help that there ARE people out there that hurt the market prices by taking advantage of it. It wouldn't be so bad if people bought the stuff to use. Buying to jack the price up is stupid. It's hurting the people that actually want the stuffs game because some people, myself included, don't want to "play the market" game to build inf. Don't pity the poor people, but realize not everyone wants to be a marketeer. I'd rather farm so i can at least play my toon and not look for "niches". Flame on...
[/ QUOTE ]
No it is not hurting those people. That's why people flame you. People flame you because you are ignorant. People flame you because you say things that are blatantly false.
Think of prices like goldilocks and the three bears...
Some prices are too low. When prices are too low a "shortage" exists. In a shortage some people are willing to pay the price but unable to obtain the item. Some items in CoH have been and are in a shortage. The most famous example is low level Luck of the Gamblers from long ago. The last 5 for all of these used to say 10 to 20 million. None were ever for sale on the market but fairly often they would appear and be sold instantly. This situation is a shortage. People were willing and able to pay 10 to 20 million. Lots and lots of people in fact. However, none could buy it. Eventually, prices rose. Prices rose because they were too low. Players suffered because they were willing and able to pay the last 5 prices but could not do so.
Some prices are too high. When prices are too high there is a surplus. In a surplus players are willing and able to sell their item at the current price but unable to do so. When you see an item with lots and lots for sale, zero bidders, and a 6 or 7 digit last 5 price you see an item in a surplus. Eventually, prices lower on these items because sellers come along who post their items for less and buyers come along who pay less. Sellers that do not list for less do not sell their item and thus get no money.
Some prices are just right. At these prices there are an equal number of people who are willing to buy as willing and able to sell. These prices are just right.
Marketeers can only survive and profit on items with high volatility where the price fluctuates between too high and too low. These marketeers ride the waves of player impatience. They buy at the low and sell at the high. Other marketeers profit on identifying shortages. These marketeers buy lots and lots of an item that is priced "too low." Then they list them higher and profit. Another type of marketeer creates misleading information on the market and attempts to profit. These marketeers may make temporary profits by buying lots of an item then trying to make the last 5 look bigger or buy buying all of one item then trying to sell a few at huge prices. However, this strategy is unsustainable. The marketeer MUST exit or lose profits because at those high prices there are more sellers than buyers. Eventually, other sellers will appear and the plan will collapse.
Anyway you slice it, marketeers cannot force players to pay higher prices. Every transaction has a willing and able buyer. Yet, you complain regardless. That is why you are ignorant and why you are flamed. You ignore facts, reason, logic, intelligence, mathematics and economics and blame the wrong people. Stop blaming marketeers for high prices and either blame the people who pay them willingly or the developers who don't create a drop rate to your satisfaction. -

blah. same ol same. whoever wants to spend that inf can. i'm not and know plenty more that wont. i dont care if my toon isnt as good as anyone elses. not like i'm gonna pvp anyway and i can last just as long in pve as any io'd toon. i have more fun than sitting in WW. if thats how someone wants to spend their 15 bux, cool.

As long as you understand that you are just venting and there are no market solutions go ahead and keep whining. As long as you understand that if you think items aren't available enough you blame developers and not marketeers then keep whining.
I don't mind complaining about things like that. I think some items should drop more often and it sucks that they don't. I do mind when you blame the wrong people. -

This gives a cross-faction market, keeps the RPers happy, and provides an extra Inf-sink, and one that people will FLOCK to. It's win-win-win!

Other than competition being spread out over 3 markets instead of 2 and everyone under level 35 being blocked out you are right. -

It would be terribly boring for me and my villain friends to pound through waves and waves of grays.
[/ QUOTE ]
But thats just it. You and your friends are taking down wave after wave of gray's... and they keep hosping and coming back. Wave after wave of the same heroes, unending. Eventually either they'll work together well enough to take you out, or your end would sap enough that you'd be the ones getting picked off 10s of HP at a time. Haha. The power of the inability to kill your foes.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think you have a very realistic expectation of what would occur. I do some pretty silly things and have some pretty crazy friends.
My friends and I would bring 5 Thug/Storm MMs and 3 Sonic Corruptors. We'll be at the defense and resistance caps. We'll have 5 Hurricanes running and 5 Freezing Rains flying around. 5 Masterminds with Taunt with bodyguard mode and 10 trillion thugs. We'll all stand next to each other and press Team Teleport 5 times or whatever to the exit.
If we don't die instantly when we exit the door to City Hall we're free. That's your only chance. There's not going to be time to run back from the hospital and try again. There's not going to be time to ping us to death with 10 damage at a time.
All of the heroes need to rush to the door of City Hall, and stand around and buff each other and wait. They can't come inside. They can't rush us one at a time. They can't run back from the hospital. Once the heroes figure that out... yeah... we're in trouble. Until that's figured out no amount of level 40s and lower are going to mean anything.
*EDIT* 8 random PuG (Pick up Group) villains trying to do the mission would probably experience exactly what you and many others have described. I'm just not 8 Random Puggers -
Remaking toons is easy and fun. You may want to keep the vet badges around for various things. Also reworking the friends list and having the 2nd one's global name change to the retired first one might be annoying. I'd keep my first account if it had my Global name I consider "me", my friends list, and my Veteran badges.

Go through Recluse Victory?
-
My points were actually... if you choose A you should complain to the developers, not the marketeers.
If you choose B then that doesn't solve anything. Forced lowering of pricing does not work. There are still only X items in existence. Only that amount of people are going to get the item. Now people who are willing and able to pay the artificially lowered price won't be able to obtain the item.
Instead of "I can't afford this so I can't have it" you get "I can afford it but I can't have it. Accomplishing nothing.
The moral of the story is whine to Positron... not the marketeers. -
If it is just like a bank mission I'd be willing to bet on me the first two, three or five times or so. Once the heroes realize what they are up against and decide to organize and work together we'd have a good fight and my team of 8 villains likely would get overwhelmed. But those first few times when people just lunge at my armies individually we'd butcher through heroes by the hundreds.
Sure, click on the doors to City Hall. There are 6 Thug/Storm MMs setting a trap for ya -

I think you should have something other than an auction for this one. Perhaps people can sponsor other players' bids. The idea that the person who pays the biggest huge pile of money is going to want to learn how to make large piles of money is kind of silly to me. Seems like that person would already know.
Perhaps a contest of some sorts? -

Ummm, . . .
But, . . .
The auto-SK actually inhibits PL-ing.
If you are all the same level, you all fight.
You don't have -5lvl drone players just standing at the door.
You all get xp apropriate to your real lvl... not the SKlevel.
.

Nope.
Add Requiem to a map.
Turn difficulty to the top.
Start mission with a level 50.
Enemies spawn at level 52.
Auto-SK to level 46. -

Granted Brutes won't replace Stone, Invul - top Alpha absorbing tanks but the latter yes.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't see any content in the game... at all... anywhere... ever... that needs or even wants such massive Alpha absorption. Maybe other people want them because they don't understand how Inspirations work, or how to use their other powers, or that you can put buffs on teammates. -

you can't come to the market forums and say "cheaper". too many greedy people here for that and you'll just get flamed. trust me. (i agree wityh you though) everything is too high. i'll never spend those prices.

Which do you think is more important?
A) Items should drop more OR
B) The devs should take actions to force prices to be lower in the current market scenario with current levels of item generation
You can't choose both. Which is more important? -

DPA is more important than DPS to me
[/ QUOTE ]
When soloing AVs (which is kinda what this thread is about), DPA means in and around nothing. DPS and DPE are what you're looking for there.
[/ QUOTE ]
Can you please elaborate further on this comment.
I was under the impression that I want to use my highest damage per activation attacks as often as possible to achieve the highest damage per second assuming I can maintain the endurance to use the attacks . Thus, damage per activation is very important.
Does Rain of Fire warrant addition to this calculation?
[/ QUOTE ]
It takes a while to solo AVs. Burst damage doesn't do anything much. Dishing out as much damage as you can in the first 10 seconds doesn't matter when you're going to be going at it for at least a few minutes. What it will do is run you out of endurance.
DPA falls to the wayside while DPS and DPE take on more important roles since you're going to have to find an attack chain that you can repeat ad infinitum.
Take Rad blast as an example. Pretty much all of Rad Blast's single-target attacks have absolutely horrible DPA, among the worst in the game. It still puts out decent DPS despite this. The percent difference in the amount of damage dealt by Fire and Rad blast will slowly reduce to a certain limit as time approaches infinity despite the difference in the first volley of attacks being so very pronounced. This is because, as the period of time increases, the difference in DPAs matters less and less.
[/ QUOTE ]
So your point is one shouldn't consider Inferno and Atomic Blast? I don't understand how what you are saying is relevant.
What I see is Fire has many attacks with fantastic DPA that exceed the DPA of Radiation. Then I see, over a vastly long time frame, that Fire's DPS significantly exceeds Radiation's DPS. Can you please provide some examples to illustrate how what you are saying is relevant to the discussion? -
I've stated this many times before...
Price should NOT be the main determining factor whether something is too rare or not rare enough. The main determining factors should be the chance for an item to drop and the actual amount of times that item is created in the game. Prices go where they go. Some things are rare and cheap. Other items are common and expensive.
Out of curiosity... how many purples have you found? -

Who is it that guards the Black Market trucks. Seems to me I'd walk up, throw ONE punch, explode dude's head, and drive the truck off...
Who do they have guarding those things, and why aren't they ruling the world?!?

Where do you think the 10% market fee goes?
Ever seen Scrapyard, Deathsurge, Rikti, or Zombies attack the Black Market? How'd that go? The only thing keeping you from being killed by the death field is your continuing ability to pay the 10% fee.
Keep paying me the 10% fee and I'll keep the death field from frying you instantly. -

Smurph (addressing the audience from the town square):

Devs, smite me with lightning if I am doing wrong!
Okay, here we go!
