When you have 600 available items and 500 people bidding on it and the last 5 buys for spell ink is 100,000 inf....something is wrong.
You are whining. You don't understand that you can sell at these prices as well as buy.

    Pain vs. Empathy

Your description of the benefits of Pain make it sound like a Sonic who doesn't take his shields. Emps can keep AB Permanent on someone. They also can Fortitude more than just "one or two". And no, alone and solo wasn't the "challenge to begin with".
  3. I recently turned virtually all of my items into Inf. I have a decent amount of Inf again. I can't promise to be able to handle every order. Many people now have more Inf than I do. My rates and fees will be different this time around. Also, they will likely change rapidly to start.

I will likely have transfer fees for all non-Freedom servers. I may randomly waive those fees solely at my discretion. Essentially, I won't be moving Inf across servers unless I have to move it back to Freedom or wherever. If I happen to have Inf on that server I'll waive the fee for you. If I don't, then I won't.

    Freedom:
100 Influence of yours into 90 Infamy of mine.
100 Infamy of yours into 85 Influence of mine.

    All others:
100 Influence of yours into 75 Infamy of mine.
100 Infamy of yours into 75 Influence of mine.

Off the top of my head, I have some (~250M) Inf on both sides on Justice and Virtue, some Inf on Triumph and some Influence on Victory. I may randomly find money on others servers. On Freedom, I have "a lot".

    Pain vs. Empathy

Om... Yeah. I'll challenge that. Pain Domination doesn't turn into Elude/Instant Healing Blasters when you get a bunch of them together.

When comparing the sets all I see is...
World of Pain, Anguishing Cry and 1/2 a Adrenaline Boost verse Fortitude, Regeneration Aura, Recovery Aura and the real Adrenaline Boost. 2 1/2 to 4.

Two Emps together can AB/Fort each other and alternate RAs and keep them permanent for a whole team. I don't see how Pain can compare to that. If Pain actually had Adrenaline Boost and Soothing Aura was ANYTHING else then there'd be an interesting debate. Right now all I see is team verse solo.

I made a purpled out Pain Corruptor on test with the level bump. Whenever I think about making a character with Pain Domination I go on and play my test 50 purpled Pain Cor for 15 minutes to refresh my memory on how much I despise the set and how far Pain is from having all the stuff I love about Empathy. The whole set, to me, is two and a half powers.
  7. Fire Ball... ok... probably shouldn't use that one.

  8. Judging from his signature and his post I assume he lists those options because he already has those characters and doesn't want to make a new one.

Pain Domination has everything I hate about Empathy and nothing from Empathy that I like.

The cap is artificial and isn't a "solution" to hyperinflation. But raising it is the wrong answer -- inflation will continue to skyrocket unabated. If people have the time and inclination the price of purples will continue to rise to 5, 10 or 20 billion. The only thing that will stop it is the number of hours in the day that people have to farm influence. And if enough people are willing to buy influence from the spammers even that won't stop the inflation.

The devs are making changes in I16 to stop AE missions from giving exorbitant experience and infamy. In essence, they're forcing arc writers to structure the enemy groups in AE missions along the same lines as dev-created enemy groups: to get the same xp as dev mobs, you have to create mobs with the same rules that dev mobs are created.

Hyperinflation in the market is a bad thing. Like in real life, it can lead to a total economic collapse. For example, if the price of common salvage and uncommon recipes were to continue to soar into the tens of millions, and only dedicated farmers could afford to buy anything on the market, it could cause a major collapse of the subscriber base. If the majority of the player base believes they are completely locked out of the things they want, they'll leave the game. And that won't be good for farmers because a drastic collapse in subscriber numbers will mean no more improvements and new content, and the eventual death of the game.

Finally, increasing the cap would result in a lot of bugs. Remember how long it took to get numeric separators into all the places where influence/infamy was displayed? Using numbers greater than 2 billion may require using a special numeric type that's not directly supported in the programming language the game is written in. The bug would most likely manifest itself by some odd influence transaction that lopped off the top part of your influence. For example, if you had 23 billion influence and bought 10 billion from a spammer, a likely bug would result in you having only 1 billion after the transaction instead of 33 billion. Considering what you were doing, you'd be unlikely to report this bug and you'd just be out 32 billion.
The 10% market fee should quench all of your fears.

The game isn't in hyperinflation mode. Players can still play the game, find stuff, sell it and then buy other stuff.

Purples can't rise to 2 billion. Players can't afford to pay a market fee of 200 million per purple. One or two items at this price can be sustained. All the purples... no.

High priced commons wouldn't create the scenario you suggest. Players can still play the game and find commons with ease. You neglect to think that sellers get money too.
  13. Free beer. Beer Free.

Take two words. Reverse them. New meaning.
Once a day, list your best and only your one, singular, best "flip".
  14. You can sell yourself an item on the Black Market. Lot's of care is needed.

    1. Pick a super cheap item with only 1 for sale and no bidding (I like Cacophony Recipes)
    2. Buy it on the toon you want to have the money.
    3. Post it for sale for 1.
    4. Write down the last 5.
    5. Go to the toon with the money.
    6. Check the last 5, ensure 1 for sale 1 bidding.
    7. Buy the item.

However, 10% is lost to market fees. That's a lot of market fees. Ideally he'd like to avoid that. Sorry, I'm not interested in Justice Infamy at the moment but if you are cool with the 10% lost and don't want to do it yourself I'm willing to do it. I'll just hand you the 10% less on Freedom and transfer the Justice Infamy you gave me at my leisure.
  15. Ha Sounds familiar.

This should be a fun event and I'm looking forward to reading the results. I've put both Niviene and Moderator 8 through similar Moderator 8 Pictures and video

My team's personal best is 2.28 deaths per minute (153 in 67) on Challenge level 5, enemies buffed, players debuffed, no skipped content (except lag hill).

Though I expect that will be surpassed by teams using strategies specifically for DPM.
  16. I only bought them to ensure those 36 weren't sold cheaply.

All 36 are now sold... 3 hours later. The last 5 all says 10,000 and there are merely 12 for sale and 122 bidding.
  17. I bought 36 for 10,000 each.
I listed them for 45,555 each.

    Thanks for the tipoff.
  18. So... if prices go down due to a change in the ratio of inf produced and items produced and stay that way are you going to come here and apologize?

City of Heroes cannot and will not be an increasingly inflationary economic system. The 10% market fee prevents that. Prices can't rise to a point where players can afford to pay 100s of million of Inf in market fees for common salvage. The market fee simply is bigger than player's ability to produce Inf. Inflation is kept in check.

Changing from one ratio of inf/items to another is temporary inflation or deflation. That's what we have now. Ever increasing money supply is Inflation with a big "i". City of Heroes cannot have the 2nd.

Hard mode? You are talking about City of Villains and City of Weaklings and comparing the two, right? There are reasons that people prefer Heroside over Villainside. Difficulty is an extremely rare (and silly) reason.

Freedom has the highest villainside population.

Isn't... It was in the 80% S/L, 60% F/C resists, 32ish Second Energize, 600% Regeneration and 20%ish Defense... pretty darn survivable?

I'm not making a semantic argument. If you'd read on through my admittedly really long post you'd see that I make a specific argument that Corruptors are ill-served by their Blasting Primary set.

Having a set be Primary means only two things: First, you can skip the first power if you want, and second, you can get the higher-tier powers faster.

Do you see the first doing Corruptors any good? Burst, Flares, and Dark Blast are some of the best powers in their respective sets, especially at low levels where they're the centerpiece of your single-target DPS. Some Blasters may skip them, but Blasters have a LOT more attacks available and power slots ot pick them in. Since Corruptors need their Support powers and tend (in my opinion) to get more value from pools like Fitness and Leadership, it takes them a long time to build an attack chain. I ALWAYS take the first blast for my Corruptors.

Now how about the second? Let's look at a couple of levels. At 14 a primary has 1-6, a secondary has 1-4. That means that having blasting as a primary is bringing Corruptors generally Aim, snipes, and single-target controls, occasionally a cone or a rain. But they don't have the damage numbers to make the best use of snipes or Aim. This is the same level range where Stalkers get Build Up/Placate, Masterminds get their second pet, and Defenders get powers like Speed Boost, Fortitude, and Dispersion Bubble. At level 32, Corruptors get a nuke, which is good, but not as good as a Blaster nuke. I also think it's not as good as a Mastermind's second upgrade, a Controller's Pet, or Defender powers like Fulcrum Shift or Heat Loss. Every AT that overlaps powersets with Corruptors gets something better at 32 than Corruptors do.

If you switched any of those other ATs primary and secondary, they'd be severely nerfed; Corruptors, on the other hand, would probably get stronger.

    ---

TLDR: If Corruptors role is to shoot enemies, why are they worse at it (at low levels, in my experience) than every other villain AT?
Your experience is different than every other player I've ever heard of or ever talked to. Do I need to make a video of playing at level 8 or 10 or 12 solo on a corruptor with Training Origins or something? I feel like you must be playing a different game.

I stopped reading here. Corruptors primary role is to shoot the bad guys.

That's what you should do differently. You should shoot the bad guys more.
