Quote:I think you're overthinking it. How about "Wentworths is a legitimate business, but the Black Market is the stuff that just 'falls off the truck' when less than legitimate people are driving it around"? And that the "honest businessmen" of organized crime are laundering stolen goods through the system back the other way?My first instinct was that this ruins my RP.
After careful consideration, though, I think I managed to come up with a plausible explanation that my characters (or at least the avatars of my 4 archetypal proto-logisms (invented word referring to incarnated facets of a recurring power ) that correspond to manifestations of the different stages of the lifecycle that [@Gerswin] created) can live with.
What if the hero universe, the 'city' if you will, is merely an allegory for the bright side of an entity's consciousness, while the villain universe, the 'wilderness' , is an allegory for the dark side. This entity, while very powerful, is very troubled, and each successive 'Issue' released by NCSOFT is symbolic of the stages of psychotherapy that this entity is experiencing, with the ultimate climax being the reconciliation of dark and light, good and evil, yin and yang, as merely different faces of the same coin, at which point the 'game' as we know it will cease to exist. This model suggests that the merging of the markets is just one more step in the master plan.
I clearly need to think this through more thoroughly, perhaps I will meditate on it while leeching the hami raid.
I mean seriously, how hard is it to figure out how a black market can thrive by using a legitimate market as the source for it's goods when that's more or less how it happens in the real world. Heck, it's WORSE than that in the real world: good sold in the US manufactured via de-facto slave labor, for instance. Where's your "RP" then?
And the whole concept that you need an RP justification for purchasing something with no in-game physicality using a meta-game currency that also has no physicality is kinda ridiculous. I mean "I purchased a Respite today"? Come on! It's an "Inspiration", it's a completely meta resource. "I spend Influence"? Do you imagine influence are little slips of paper with a picture of statesman on them or something? Like Phalanx-Bux? The entire economy is already so very meta and fourth-wall breaking, that I can't see how a market merger would make the issue any worse. -

Quote:I don't mind the rent (as you point out, it's chump change) but a better way to pay it would be very welcomed. If, redside, we could pay it at any Arachnos Building (Oakes, Cap, Gville) that'd be a huge step forward. If we could select an "Autopay" option, that'd be even better.Base rent these days doesn't really take a noticeable amount of prestige (what's the max, 2400-2500?), which is chump change for any base that needs to pay that.
For smaller bases, with a correspondingly lower amount, it's still not even significant, given how fast prestige can be earned.
The only thing it is now is a QoL issue - you get annoying notices to pay it and if it lapses, you have to go to AP/GC (not a big deal) or PO (more annoying for vils) to pay it.
On top of that, what does it accomplish? Nothing.
I say make a base lose power 4 weeks after the last person in a SG/VG logs in, after 6 weeks, make it inactive until someone in the SG/VG logs in. -
Quote:Meh. I'll wait for Jumpgate Evolution. The flashy trailer was awesome, but now I've lost some interest in it after reading this today.

Quote:They ran out of funding and had to get new investors. The new investors wanted something released quickly to make a fast buck and get a return on their investment, so they shoved the shooter game out the door, which promptly tanked. Now, the company is in bankruptcy and there's some kind of legal battle over who actually controls it, and there's tell of the former CEO absconding with something like a million dollars or something.Last I heard, the Cheyenne Mountain folks released a Stargate FPS game first. I suppose it was to make a quick buck to keep the MMO idea alive.
Last I've heard, SGW was pretty much effectively in limbo and probably will not see the light of day due to legal and financial difficulties. -

Quote:Yet, I have a huge stack of unused Respecs available to me. I could probably unslot most of them with the respecs. And I can always get more respecs. So I could already unslot my IOs if I wished. So at 50 I would be able spend 50 some odd million inf and safely remove every enhancement I have slotted without the need of a respec.
As much as I'd like it, I don't see the devs going for it when they stand by so firmly on keeping us locked into our enhancements. -

This is just what happens when someone with a Phd Ragequits.

Quote:The markets are not segregated by server. Right now the markets are Blue Side across ALL servers (one market, all servers), and red-side is one market across all servers. This will make it one market across all servers and each side, not one per server.Unless you're using some other definition of the term "market," as far as I can tell this reduces the number of markets to one per server.
Agree with the rest of your post, tho -
Quote:http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showt...bster+crabbingSo I recently decided to make a VEAT for the very first time, a soldier, and wouldn't you know it they're kinda fun!
Before I knew it I hit 27, and at this point I've started doing more research on just what I might wanna do with this character. The problem is, there are so many things that just look so good that it's difficult to decide what exactly to take. I want Tough/Weave and the pets and the AOE's and the Tactical Training and Leadership and...
Yeah, I doubt I'm the only one who's ever had this problem, so I think I could use a little help in narrowing down what to take for my Crab's primary build. One of the main things I've always wanted is to be able to solo on at least -1/X8 if not +0/X8. I've no idea how hard it would be to have a build that could do this though.
The other thing is that I have no idea if that would even be possible without IO's, as something I should mention is that I am utterly broke redside. In fact, part of me is kind of hoping a Crab would make for an at least passable inf maker so I could start funding various IO projects, both for my Crab and for other characters, since I know they're rather AOE oriented and fairly tough to kill.
So yeah, I'm certainly open to advice and direction here. With this many good powers it's honestly tough to decide on anything. -
Quote:A sense of entitlement spans generations for some peopleNow on the other hand, things get way more fun when you get one of those cases of self entitled, cynicle old folk. Just the other day I was waiting in line at a Sprint Customer Service and Repair Center. Some scary looking older woman walked in, wasn't even in the line for three minutes when she barged over to the back of the room and started giving the employees crap about how they weren't doing their job! They just laughed it off (When she wasn't looking).
(former retail veteran here).
Its a personality trait moreso than a generational thing. That said, I think it's safe to say that there's alot of belligerently stupid kids on the internet who comprise a very vocal majority of the belligerently stupid demographic. -

1.) You do not need to use the invention system to be successful in the game. We played for years before the invention system even existed just fine. You can do fine with SOs all the way until 50.
2.) The invention system takes very little time and effort to get a descent result from. Purple IOs are not really either necessary nor an entitlement. There are alot of IO sets that can be very easily purchased. You do not need to do the number crunching. Since the IO system isn't necessary to play and be successful, you don't need to worry if your build is perfectly optimal or not. Just find sets that give you more of what you feel you need more of and slot them.
3.) Playing the market takes very little time and effort. I'm probably the worst marketeer in existence and I never have less than 100 million on me. I've spent many more 100s of millions on my characters, too, most if not all of which have multiple full sets. My formula? Look up the current prices. Sell absolutely all salvage and recipes I don't plan to use in short order to the market. I list for about 10% lower than the going rate or for 10% of a recipe's build cost, whichever makes more sense. It's a HORRIBLE market strategy, but I still make millions. It takes me about 10 minutes at the end of each game session to manage, too. -
Yeah, for some of my MMs, the pet AI seems to have gotten worse. They seem to be happy to flat out ignore commands about 20% of the time.

Simply put, it's a way to engage the same tropes but ditch all the baggage the names have accumulated over the years.

Anyway calling her a troll is just wrong. It implicates a malice that's just not in her posts. -
Quote:Doms rock the Casbah on Redside, I can't see why they wouldn't do the same on Blue.I am planning to bring my dominators to rogue status so I can play them hero side as well as villian side. Many people I have talked to seem to know little about Doms. Doms are apparently one of the least played and I think misunderstoof AT's.
What are your thoughts on ths ??
I could possibly see some blueside players having some misconceptions about doms, however, but I think that's going to be a hurdle for everyone who does a crossover on both sides while people get used to having the new ATs around.
I don't think there's much Blueside that should throw a dom for a loop or anything though. -
There is a new flight sound like being in a wind tunnel when moving, even when hovering. I tried all the filenames given earlier in the thread, but none silenced it. Anyone have any ideas what this one is called?

I've always seen Longbow as skirting the line between "Law Enforcement" and "semi-official vigilantes". Long bow seems more a Vigilante group than a hero group, to me (In GR terms).

Meh. DO strength enhancements with minor procs isn't anything to get excited about. I'd be tempted if they were SO strength.
