The team was built with winning in mind, make no mistake. Just didn't work as well as I would have liked. The stalker was switched with blasters to hopefully bring enough damage to get the kills, but that didn't happen either and the map was crap for us. It wasn't played to draw or simply to lower the kills. That would be lame. It was made to reduce your ability to get easy rolling kills while allowing for stray pull spike targets for us.
If it was a draw or 'just don't get destroyed too bad' team I would have veto'd it. I don't play that way. I'd rather get demolished and have tried my best. There should be no implied 'defeat' on your team from mine and I promise any comment made is not or should not be meant that way. Attitudes aside, your team is amazingly good and fun to both watch and play against. Any pride in the matches should be read as excitement that the initial idea, while it didn't work like we wanted, had merit. -
The lineup we wanted to run was viable and with the intended team and some practice on it I think it would have been more successful. The idea was generated with competitiveness in mind and was sound. I take responsibility for the deaths since it is my job to keep people alive, but considering how throw together it was I still think we did well.
Would the more vocal members of Ware prefer teams bring obviously outmatched jump teams they know they're going to lose on or actually try to make something else with the intention of challenging you? We lost. Ok, that's fine. But I honestly expected a more civil response considering we actually tried something else. -
Quote:Awwww. How cute!So...
Basically you're asking for something just to ask... since you know full well that what you ask for won't solve the problems with PvP?
Personally, I'm happy the Devs have better sense than to go around "flippin switches" just because they can. I'm guessing more thought is being put into the matter than what seems to have been put into the opinions in this thread.
Believe it or not... doing what's easiest and doing what's best are not always the same thing. Forgive me but I come across way too many PvP'ers in this game that don't realize this. -
Looking forward to tonight's matches. HGLF and all that.

Can't we all just lol and pew pew? I like to pew pew.

Quote:Give me matches any day, especially against Ware and Exile. And 2 or 3 hours, not 2 or 3 matches. But if my choices are some vs none.. I'll take some. Or internals vs none.. I'll take internals. Or if a team mate asks me specifically to run some internals to work on something in a setting I can more easily stop and explain something or show them something, then I'll do that too. It's hard to glean that from anyone when most teams would rather do internals than say... practice against another team.
I'm not being specific here, the guilty parties know who they are.
I don't care, I just want to play. -
I would love to see a ladder start, even if it is live. But I think we'd see less teams than we have now as teams dissolve to join their friends in other teams, etc. Really would need 8+, and if we went with what's out there now it would likely end up being more like 4.. maybe 5.

Quote:I don't either. I rolled one to check it out, though I doubt it will see any serious play time. Mostly in the hopes of seeing a better way to defend and heal against it. Not overly successful yet. It is the lineup I've had the most fun in years emping against though, even if it's really painful. The lack of range hits it and Blaster damage in general is better but the control offers some new wrinkles. There are some natural (I think) counters to it that I haven't yet seen tried in large part because they aren't fotm, but if other teams go in this direction the meta will shift.
Not to inflate anyone's ego but I don't see anyone but WARE running this successfully for a while. -
Quote:It was convenient, that's all. Trust me I never look at anything you say with any kind of interest. It's just not worth it.No, you are wrong, internals are stupid for those reasons. Please don't ever quote my post again in disagreement.
To everyone that's not an idiot, I would never argue against the better value of practicing with another team. I just think that internals also have merit depending on what you're looking to do. That is to say, I don't think you garner zero benefit from them. -
Internals are a perfectly fine way to focus on fundamentals like spike and evade. They're only worthless if that's all you ever do. Nothing wrong with running internals for an hour or two once a week.
-
I think it's irresponsible of them to implement something in to their game and then leave it to wither and die. It's only propped up by those of us willing to work with what there is. There should still be "some" attention given to it. Perhaps not tons of development time, but some would be nice. And most the things we're asking for can't possibly take scads and mountains of effort.
Ahh, Dahjee. Dahjee Dahjee Dahjee. Dahjee is content because he's ignorant and simply doesn't know any better. I look at him like a dog that doesn't mind that his owners never scoop the backyard. I mean if you leave the mess there long enough you can play with it! And that's fun, right? -
Can't say I blame him there.
-
To be fair, what's needed and what's nice to have are two different things.

Can my team stop pissing on the campfire that is this thread? Thanks.

Quote:I like this kid.Yes I want the developers to remove Travel Suppression and Heal Decay. I was finally becoming decent at PvP when these new mechanics rolled in and in my humble opinion sucked the fun out of PvP.
Travel Suppression was one of the primary reasons why CoX PvP was fun. There were then ways to lock down, snare, targets for melee types to wail upon, and there are even more now with the proliferation of -fly, -jump powers like web grenade, air superiority and others. (arguably the inclusion of fitness for free allows people to take a utility power like air superiority or web grenade more easily).
Heal Decay is clunky to me. It falls particularly hard on some sets and not on others. Before Travel Suppression, the way to deal with an empath was maneuver, teleport foe, knock back, mezz effects, or bring lots of friends and just burn through it.
I've played other PvP systems where one character can heal another, and the PvP is still competitive because you can either "pressure" the healer, that is put out so much damage across targets over time that it exhausts the healer's healing resources, or "spike" hit a single target with such a large amount of damage in a short enough time period that the healer can't apply their available resources fast enough. They also have the standard tactics of maneuvering the target out of range/los with the healer, mezz effects, etc.
I think a better solution may have been to look at the endurance costs and/or recharge time of healing powers, so that while a healer type might be able to blunt 1 or 2 spikes, but they couldn't do it indefinitely.
I think a healer should be able to blunt some spikes on occassion. It's fun for me. But they shouldn't be able to do it all the time. Instead with Heal Decay, you have healers that perform more "maintenance" with respect to their healing powers, i.e. topping folks off, rather than the more dramatic and emotionally satisfying clutch save.
I'm not sure if the whole "so I go clipped by some empath rocking heal aura for very little, and so now my healing flames does 1/8 of what it should" was ever resolved, but it seems harsh to punish a player for the "helpful" actions of another.
Also.. shut up Dahjee. You continue to make yourself look foolish. While it's entertaining for a while, it gets tired. Now shoo. Shoo! -
You really should be able to hit the HP cap without trying overly much. What's your overall range bonus?

Quote:I'm sure you don't think so, but you're arguing for a system that works against the very people you're trying to represent. Those of us citing examples and sharing what we've seen and learned since I4 have spent plenty of time in both the Arena AND the zones. We know how it works. How it doesn't. Why. And we've thrown this information out there many many many many many times. As I said, whether TS and HD is on or not, premades will dominate.
The thing is, turning HD and TS off favours a premade far more than it does the casual. The power of healing is magnified a great deal when you can call for heals over vent/TS/whatever your chat program of choice is.
HD and TS remove one tiny advantage and give the casuals a chance - not much of a chance but at least a chance.
It doesn't make a great deal of difference against a premade but seriously, do the premades really feel the need to try and stack even more odds in their favour?
We're not arguing for change to further dominate the casual player base. And I've seen vet PvP'ers spend countless hours mentoring and generally helping those new to this part of the game, so it's not like we're closed off and elitist.
We don't like TS and HD. We've explained the reasoning. Provided numbers. Examples. Screen shots for the love of Mike. Offered to show people IN GAME what we mean. It gets old being answered with 'Nuh uh!'.

lol seroiusly though (Like they would ever consider such sound advice)
Going against my own advice.. oh well. -
Quote:Don't bother arguing with Dahjee. You're better off just ignoring his posts completely and responding to other people. It saves time. You just don't get it. We were asked what we want. We said "We want HD and TS gone. Here's why." The "here's why" part contained sound logic and reasoning. If you cannot see that, you just don't know what those things are. Of course I am personally campaigning to have HD and TS removed. When I initially encountered them, I hated them. The more I thought about it, the more I understood precisely why that was so. I have individually constructed my own opinions based upon fact, and I have seen, agreed, disagreed, and commented on the opinions and arguments of others. There are many reasons HD and TS should be removed. Some are personal preference, some are simple logical contradictions they present when implemented into CoH. These ideas have been articulated several times in this thread and many more times in other ways and other threads. Some people would prefer to have HD and TS remain in the game for various reasons: some because they do not want to see more change in this game (maybe it makes them uncomfortable, maybe they don't want to respec), some because they honestly believe that HD and TS are sensible mechanics that are healthy to this game's PvP. There have been many convincing arguments given to disprove either thesis that HD and TS are sensible or healthy to this game. The fact that you refuse to see the logic in these arguments only implies that you are stubborn or trolling. It does not imply the the logic is not there or that it is flawed.
Lastly, if this is not a two-sided debate, why are you posting in my thread? I mean.. really.. Players that want HD and TS to remain don't have any reason to post here, yet you continually post here to oppose the removal of HD and TS? You need to actually understand logic before you can use it to be persuasive. I don't know whom you think you are convincing with your posts, but in reality they are only serving to clutter this thread. -
So that's why you guys are winning so hard? All wearing new pumps on state of the art rigs with free blizzards and complimentary 'meds'? Corporate sponsors ruined the GAME, man!

Quote:First, Kat, I was just playin."If you are using TF or Sniper Blast without a very good reason you're probably bad. TF was okay on Blasters pre-I13 when it actually did damage and on Defenders if you were something like Rad/Son and had lots and lots of stacked -res, but these days it's pretty much garbage."
i never said i would use sniper blast... you should not say things i never wrote
concerning total focus, it's still better than bone smasher, power push etc ( i'm so sorry that engery/ energy is so full of aweful powers :P )
and i appreciate everyones help here. i posted this build to get help, and not for hearing HOW awful everthing is. i respect your advices, but you need to be tolerant with me, it's still me playing that toon
but guys you are not the only people playing Coh.
Ok Mr. Titano. I'm the forum nice guy, but check it out. You're being an ******. Kat's build was far superior to yours. No disrespect to you, but that's the fact of it. If you're using TF regularly you're doing it wrong, even if it's just as a finishing attack. You are losing damage using a long animation melee power and would be far better off cycling your base ranged attacks.
You'd be wise to listen to the advice of those that have been doing this for a looong time and no what works and what doesn't.
And I've seen snipe spikes that would make you mess your overalls. Just sayin.
