Unfortunately, the sets that add damage aren't the sets that add recharge.

    [/ QUOTE ]

My theory is that recharge >>>> more damage buff.

The reason is with defiance, you already get a large damage buff the more often you attack, so building to attack faster generates more damage in and of itself.

The trick is to have enough end at all times to sustain a blistering attack pace. But once you achieve high recovery, having massive recharge outperforms +damage bonuses by far.

This is especially true for AoE builds where the powers generally recharge slower then single target attacks. you want your fireball/firebreath, etc. up as often as possible to blast through large groups quickly.

It was Defeat Selestar and Guards

This happened a couple of days ago on another Mission that was do not let so and so Escape. Never got to them and the mission failed without a timer as well.

If there is a hidden timer for the time allowed then they need to say you have X time before he escapes.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The good news is this is a badge mission so I think its flashback available, so you can still grab the badge via Oro.

He might have got away once, but I have a feeling he wont be escaping you again.

It could be worse. You could have been playing an EM/EA Brute, left for a while, and then come back to discover that your ability to bust out a staggering amount of ST damage in a very short time has been horribly nerfed, with no gains in the AoE department to compensate.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Brute Energy Melee is still a top contender in ST damage, but you are right about the lolaoe.

    [/ QUOTE ]

In mathland when you're by yourself, absolutely. When you're playing the game on a team, not so much. A lot of EM's single target goodness is wasted on glacially slow attacks, which means your target gets wiped out by team mates in the middle of attack animations far more than you'd like (especially on what was once the sets defining power, et - but as a bonus, even if your target is killed by someone else, you still get to eat the self damage, lol).

well crap. i wish we had the ability to turn off a power's secondary affect.

    [/ QUOTE ]

    You do. its called "reroll".

Then revisit the KB heavy toon later maybe when you have more ideas on how to lessen KB from upsetting your teams. There are ways to minimize its negative aspects, but it takes some practice and forethought, so maybe a KB heavy toon is better left for a second or third character after you have already learned the ropes.

Or just play through it and figure it out as you go- pissing people off is part of life

Still, i do love the way you seem to be justifying your behavior by implying that if a a lot of people do something that makes it right. That sort of thinking always makes me think of something the Reverend Ivan Stang said.

    RP?

What difference is it that someone wants to pretend to be someone else in a Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Game?

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually I think the genre is MMOG...not MMORPG. Massively multiplayer online game, not necessarily Massively multiplayer online ROLEPLAYING game.

    [/ QUOTE ]

You think wrong. It's MMORPG. The "lolrp!" crowd just tends to arbitrarily remove the "RP" from it.

    [/ QUOTE ]

No. I dont think wrong. I play how I play, and the numbers back up that the vast majority play this way as well i.e. not RPing at all and just mashing buttons and running around in a virtual world.

Therefore, to market the game as a RPing game is actually targetting the vast minority of paying customers, so i think you will find the companies that make these games themselves backing away from the RP element of the MMORPG catch all title.

I am not of the lolrp crowd or really any crowd other then I play to play and have some fun, and dont really care what others do as long as it doesnt tread on "weird" territory and make me or others uncomfortable in game, so the RP in MMORPG is truly meaningless to me, but my $15 a month is not meaningless to the company, nor are the $15 a month of the majority of their playerbases. So in that regard, the game is truly MMOG.

The RP in the title is a relic of a bygone age. MMOGs main income is truly not from RP players.

What would you guys and girls do with 663 merits?

I am leveling a new Kat/WP Scrapper, he is 43 now and I have not spent a single merit. When I get to 50 should I buy a Numina regen/recov for myself and a couple of LoTG rech to sell for 70 mil a piece? Or should I go for 30 -40 random rolls?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If you plan on merit buying directly for the big ticket IOs like miracle or numinas I suggest buying it now and using it to get to 50 rather then waiting on 50, because those are global IOs that will benefit your regen/recovery alot while you level and are not something where a lvl 50 version is any better then a lvl 20 version- the lower lvl ones are actually MORE valueable because you can slot them on low lvl toons for exactly the same effect as on a 50 and gain the benefits all through your levelling process.

So buy miracle and numinas at the LOWEST possible levels offered(miracle lvl 20, numinas lvl 25? i think) if you do a stright merit purchase, and slot them ASAP to gain the most benefit from them while you level up.

Trust me on this. A lvl 17 toon with a miracle +recovery slotted has 33 levels to use that IO which helps alot to get to 50.

So at 43 I would buy a lvl 25 numinas for sure because that IO will help your WP alot on the ride to 50.

I would skip the miracle on a WP toon, because with stamina and QR plus a NUmi IO do you really NEED more end? I dont. So I use only the numina and regen tissue uniques because those directly benefit my regen which is more important then my recovery on that powerset.

Bottom line: Dont wait. Buy as soon as possible for unique global IOs like Miracle, Numinas, perf shifter (not unique but same principal), and regen tissue +regen. Buy them at the lowest level, and slot them immediately. Your road to 50 will be much smoother this way.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Actually I think the genre is MMOG...not MMORPG. Massively multiplayer online game, not necessarily Massively multiplayer online ROLEPLAYING game.

So roleplaying is actually not the focus of the genre. just to be clear.

I can play side by side just fine with someone who is enjoying playing their character as a role, I just dont like when that role spills over into drama or weirdness.

That said, I personally dont RP, but have no problem with others enjoying that experience with their MMO... I just want to be clear that the genre of game itself is not in fact role-playing.

It is massive multiplayer online that is the true focus- how involved players choose to get with their characters is entirely up to them.

But after reading 20 pages of this, I can simply conclude that RPing is not fun for some, and it is fun for others.

I just like to smash buttons. Others might like to RP... to each their own, we can play side by side just fine ... unless things get wierd.

I dont do drama in a game I play to unwind after work. I have a wife for that.

When did they change it back to having logged-off toons affect mission spawns?

    [/ QUOTE ]

I think they changed that when they shut the door on quick katie TFs and Cap runs where people were "soft loading" ie: having people log out so the TF would spawn for one person to make the kill all maps much much faster.

Now even if you log off the mission counts you for spawn sizes.

jesus christ why EVERY FREAKING ISSUE!?

    [/ QUOTE ]

But dont worry! They will give you a freespec to soothe the pain of having powers that no longer work properly, and sets that no longer need to be slotted... so now all youll need to do is take 2 hours or so of your time to rework your build and reslot so you can see performance nowhere near what you had before!

    In other words...FIXED!

sarcasm doesnt work well in print, but it is easier on the eyes than: "Devs- please eat my co*k if this turns out to be true."
  14. [ QUOTE ]
A little bit ago, I made an Energy Aura brute (too weak to couple it with mace, so I went Dark Melee). I have played it to level 40....

Anyway, EA has to be the flat-out worst secondary I've ever experienced with a brute.

Seriously, no aggro aura + a stealth = crappy herds. But that's actually OK, because if I did manage to herd (well, the corrupter herded much better) I would mostly get pwn'd pretty darn quick!

The end-suck/heal is OK at best, and yeah, looks decent if you have 10 enemies around you. But if you have 10 enemies around you, they'll just 4-shot you anyway, heal or no.

Soloing is not bad, but a 3-yr old can solo pretty much any AT w/o enh's in this game, so that's not really a reliable indication of a set's strengths.

The tier 9, Overload, is very nice, and if I could live in it, it is very survivable. I have just resolved to: a) never roll a type-defense toon again, and b) ignore EA as the bastage-stepchild of the brute world.

On the other hand, SR was very survivable! Took some doing to get it reasonable (about 30+ levels), but compared to EA, it's gold!

No aggro aura on a brute... and they cap that with a stealth! Wow, and they didn't want spines or ice because those slowed building fury... did they even play EA?

Anyways, I might push to 50 and see how LoLz-worthy it is in RV, I've only used SO's for now; if it looks remotely viable in zone pvp, I might slot some cheap IO sets... not many set bonuses for typed defense.

  17. Exactamundo.

People are selling lvl 50 IOs many times for throwaway prices...buy some up for <100k and respec to make 350K+ profit per slot.

Hey its only 3.5 mil or so, but why not have your respecs making you a little extra?
  18. Inventions are great, but I think Im still here IN SPITE of the market, not because of it.

Theres plenty of things that feel like work in the real world to do, so doing more of it in game does not appeal to me as a well spent night of my off-work time.

That said, I do use the markets, and have been ebil in my days, but find spending time in game in the markets very dull compared with beating up mobs and clicking buttons.

If all I have to log on for is market transactions, I aint loggin on that day.
  19. SlimPickens

    Hit with Desire!

Yeah with tanker base numbers it is not too hard or expensive to soft cap defense.

Scrappers/brutes are a bit pricier due to needing more sets/more expensive sets to get it done.

For 350 mil you should be able to work a nice build out of Wentworths.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
    Define 'decent.'

    And 'sucks.'

    [/ QUOTE ]

For a 4 year gone player I believe the old definitions would be:

Decent: Fire tank who can herd up a map full of enemies, duck into a dumpster and drop a burn patch for a BBQ XP roast.

Sucks: A fire tank who cannot do this.

The game has changed greatly for Fire/fire tanks in the last 4 years.

    Strangeness

you sure you have all the same pieces slotted? Obliteration only has one end reduce component in the quad IO, so unless you 6 slotted both sets, is it possible you used the proc in one set, and the quad in another?

The end reduction form obliteration is only 18%ish in any case even at top level IOs, so its easy to miss it having any effect in most powers. Half an SO worth of end reduction just doesnt make much difference hehe.

But other then this being a bug, the only thing I can think of is that you 5 slotted both sets, and have the quad in one and not in the other?

    Strange indeed.
  24. Yeah but 12.0 defense at level 25 that offers the global bonus from 22-50 is alot better for those exemplaring down then a 15.9 defense level 50 that only offers global bonus from 47-50...

If you never exemp the level 50 is clearly the better one for defense value, but if you plan on spending time exemped you are much better off with that 7.5% global recharge intact.

I use the level 25 ones when i buy from merits, because its not hard at all to get ED cap defense values AND have the IO global recharge work while exemped if you slot 4 pieces of gamblers in a power. Level 50 defense, def/rech, and def/end and a level 25 def/global recharge and you cap defense plus retain the global bonuses when exemped down to 22(as long as the power its slotted in is active).

So for me its lowest possible level if buying with merits, and cheapest possible if I buy from market, or dont care about exemping. But generally the low level IOs sell for more then the top level ones anyways, so getting the lowest level ones usually makes them MORE valuable to sell as well.
  25. [ QUOTE ]
Hmm, btw would an EM Pulse combined with the Choking Cloud aura have good chances of holding bosses? With the stacking and all?

    [/ QUOTE ]

If even one pulse hits on cloud and EMPulse hits it will hold a boss. Bosses require mag4 to hold, and cloud provides mag2 per pulse, with EMPulse being a mag3 i think (with a chance for +1 mag on overpower), so stacked they will indeed hold a boss easily.

I recommend using cinders for your AoE hold instead, however. EMPulse is rough on the blue bar after use, so unless you use it with consume shortly afterwards, it will leave you without a blue bar real quickly.

Cinders has a crappy duration, but with cloud backing it up, you will hold everything within 1-2 pulses of cloud, including bosses.

Just watch out for mezzing bosses who can hit you with a toggle drop before cloud can stack with your hold AoE. That leads to trouble...
