Fire/Kin and Fire/Rad are both very strong soloers and teams are generally happy if they can get their hands on one, too.

solo and mini-teams (max 2, prefered with healer). Avoid Hollows at all cost, from lvl6 in atlas to KR newspapers and contacts...
[/ QUOTE ]
Well, we usually aim for a team size around 4, prefer to have someone who can heal (although the moniker "healer" might not be exactly fitting) and do Hollows at all cost, but other than that I have to agree that smaller teams (no PUGs) in a controlled environment are a good way to start tanking pre-SOs.
I guess the worst thing that can happen to a tanker in the teens is that he 'learns' in 8-man-PUGs set on Invincible against high-damage/high-mez mobs and never ever dares to tank again. -
Well, if you want to be able to control each group of pets separately (and keep your power trays managable in the long run) I suggest using numpad binds. I use those with small adjustments for personal style and my pets obey me like the obedient little tin cans/loa-possessed thugs/mindless corpses they are.
-
Well, first you take a sip from the vodka bottle...
Oh, wait! You meant the fire blast...
In that case you might want to fit as many opponents in the cone as possible, so it might be necessary to convince a spread group of opponents that hugging is good.
To achieve this you could either:
- throw your tanker into the spawn so he can make a nice package for you
or
- pull the enemies around a corner.
Then you target one enemy in the back of the group and go as far away as possible, because cones are wider at maximum range.
Serve with a side dish of your choice. -
Well, a friend of mine is very good at playing tankers and I really like teaming with him, especially since I love playing squishies (debuffing, mezzing and damage-dealing just make me smile
)... which is accidentally a good thing, because this way I can do much to help him during those early levels.
I think there are two key factors for learning how to be a good tank: knowledge and trust. The earlier he gains knowledge about his own capabilities and those of his opponents and supporters and the earlier he builds confidence in his toon's defensive abilities the more willing he may be to keep the aggro of as many opponents as possible centered on himself thus justifying the endurance cost of defensive powers.
So, in my opinion tankers need a lot of support early on, both by supporting toons who can enable a tanker to tank earlier than he could on his own and by supportive players who are willing to share their knowledge (without being too educative).
A tanker needs some patience until his efforts really pay off, but the result is well worth it. Heck, when we started our first "real" toons back in I5 everybody told us that fire tankers were "squishy", but that mentioned friend built one nonetheless. It took some time, xp and support before that build finally gathered momentum, but since then he is very hard to take down even with little support (and you should have heard him laugh when he brought out his lvl50 fire tanker for the first time after the change to Healing Flames).
However, always listen to what the player wants to do with his tanker. If he wants to be able to dish out some damage as well as take it it's no good talking him into the 'impregnable fortress' build you have in mind. He might miss out on Tough and Weave in order to take and slot those attacks, but if he is a happier tanker for it so be it. He might need a little bit more support to survive the fiercest alpha strikes, but chances are that he will survive nonetheless and tank with a smile on his face. -
-
Well, damage through fury sounds nice, but it's a lot more complicated than that. You will have a harder time generating fury in the first place if your attacks aren't slotted for damage and quadruple base damage is still better than triple base damage, so you will have to find a kind of balance in slotting for damage and endurance, so that your damage is not too sucky without fury and so that you can keep up fury for a good while without running out of endurance.
When in doubt erring in the favour of fury is better, but builds with an endurance drain are usually quite easy to manage endurance-wise.
Btw: Endurance drains do work towards fury even without any damage at all. In fact /elec's Power Sink used to generate insane amounts of fury when used against players and AVs until they fixed it to generate 'normal' amounts of fury. -
Persuasion... Without using a Jedi mind trick or something like that the best option would be to tell you to ask any Bot-MM from 40 to 50 if you could join him for a mission.
Then watch how anything in his path will be pulverized by the sheer mass of rockets, missiles and laser beams.
That's just as scary as any ghoulish person you might come up with. -

If you have room for /poison's poison trap in your build you have missed a power that is probably ten times less situational, ten times less sucky and a hundred times more useful than poison trap.
-
-
Personally, I always slot one accuracy enhancement first as every missed attack hurts.
After that I slot what I feel is most necessary. (I think I have a good sense for if and why a toon performs well or not.) If I have endurance issues endurance reduction is next, otherwise I go for damage and recharge and add endurance reduction later.
And yes, SS/Inv is very endurance hungry. Two endurance slots are needed in most attacks and a /kin or /cold corruptor is the brutes best friend. -
Personally I would always go for two accuracy SOs (or IOs) with the possible exception of a SS brute with perma-Rage.
The rest depends on the used powersets. Neither my dark/dark nor my fire/fire nor my elec/elec need much endurance reduction, so I can go for mainly damage and recharge and still be a perpetuum mobile. My EM/Inv brute on the other hand burns endurance fast and to make use of fury he needs one lvl50 endurance reduction IO in most attacks, so his standard slotting is something like 2 acc, 2 dam, 1 end, 1 rech or 2 acc, 2 dam, 2 end depending on the endurance use per second of the attack in question. Well, things get easier with IO-sets...
Basically it's all a matter of build and playstyle. -

about the gimped : Well, in my eyes Energy Blast has always been gimped
i rest my case and check the patch lists if you need to know all the things that happend.
[/ QUOTE ]
I always check the patch notes. No gimping to be seen. See, that's your problem: You claim something but strictly refuse to back it up with anything but vague ranting.
<blockquote><font class="small">Antwort auf:<hr />
About the original ideas. Sure i am willing to give them loads of original ideas but that aint my job. Or are you willing to pay me ?
[/ QUOTE ]
So, you want to keep them guessing what you would like, so you can keep on complaining if they don't guess right? Clever... not.

btw the fries can be delivered closer then you think. Germany right ?????? :P

Exactly. So, if you think it's close enough just send the cash in advance and the fries will be sent to you.

plus why should i make suggestions if they arent listening. HAvent you noticed that there are a few ( verry verry verry verry little ) that react to this.
[/ QUOTE ]
Is that true? Did you really fail to notice that the majority of new things implemented in the game comes straight from the forums? Of course, suggestions along the lines of "give me more stuff" are a little bit tricky, so I am not surprised if little good comes from them. However, post an idea that actually is an idea instead of a simple demand for more stuff and the reactions are usually plenty (which in turn draws the attention of devs to that matter).
<blockquote><font class="small">Antwort auf:<hr />
and about contructive criticism. If you have an issue about something. For example you dont like the tv they are showing you. Do you say " well the tv is absolutly great and the screen is amazing clear. ohhh and look at the great design" or do you say " hmmmm not sure if thats the right one for me. Maybe someone else would like that design" as an suggestion to the sales person. ?????? so he would learn from your visit. Basicly i think that cutting straight to the point is better then using a dozen side ways.
Further is my criticism in that sence constructive. I am trying create some more content in the game. But i am not gonna run around and skip straight to the point what i think could be "wrong" in the game it is today.
[/ QUOTE ]
So, you don't know what constructive criticism is... In your example with the tv set you would walk away without a tv set and think the salesman is an idiot for not knowing what kind of tv set you are looking for. You are not getting straight to the point. In fact, you are getting to no point at all.
I would use constructive criticism and tell the salesman what I like about the tv set he shows me and what I don't like and generally try to give him an idea about what kind of tv set I would buy. I get straight to the point about what I want instead of letting the poor salesman guess what I might want.

but i was trying to make a statemnt ad if you dont agree i can only respecced that. I hope you wil not get bored at it as some of us are.
as i always say. enjoy and have fun.
And there is now way you can change my thoughts if thats what you are trying to do
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh, feel free to feel bored, I am not going to argue about that. However, I feel that your way of complaining is hardly efficient. You hide your few and vague constructive suggestions under a huge heap of baseless ranting.
You see, you said you want more contacts. What is wrong about Faultline and the Rikti War Zone? What kind of contacts are you talking about?
You want epic ATs and you should know that this is already work in progress. I guess the devs will make the release of villainous Kheldians a separate issue, somehow story-wise connected with the secession of the 5th Column from the Council. If this is not what you want how about telling us what you want?
In fact, most things you mentioned are work in progress. Maybe not in the way you imagined, but since you really don't tell us what you imagine we wouldn't know.
I don't want to change your thoughts, but it might be helpful if you changed your way to express your thoughts, so that others might even have a chance of understanding what you are trying to say. -
Fortunately this leaves 20% of the gaming population without a /tell-phobia...
By the way: When I logged my villain after our longish chat the other night I immediately received a /tell by a level 6 MM who was looking for someone to show him the ropes in CoV... Well, no xp for me that night.
Always remember, kids: If you talk to the strange man first you have the upper hand, right? -
Well, if the game is not that bad it should be easy for you to word your criticism to be more constructive.
If you think powersets are gimped, state why you think they are gimped. It's no good stating that there was "endless gimping" without coming up with a few numbers or tested effects for even a single power. You say Energy Blast was gimped? Well, in my eyes Energy Blast has always been gimped because the constant knockback is damn annoying at best and messes badly with many of my toons efficiency, but that's just my personal opinion.
If current additions to the game don't satisfy you just come up with actual suggestions about what should be added to make you happy. And yes, it should be a little bit more precise than "add new stuff" or "give more contacts". What do you expect the devs' reaction to be? "Oh, yes, 'add new stuff'! Why haven't we thought of that in the first place?" Come on, you can't be that naive! The devs are constantly working on new content and if you don't say what you would like it's not their fault if they rather add something others (those who say what they want) would like to see. (Rikti war! Yay!)
Why don't you just name a few features you like and would like to see more from? Or even better: Why don't you come up with completely original ideas for new zones or contacts with interesting story arcs if that's what you want?
And concerning the fries you better consult your local fast food dealer of choice. Trust me, my fries would be cold long before they reach you. -
Heh, Negative Nancy... I like that. Very fitting for his attitude.
Basically he wants all the stuff that the devs are continuously working on but different - as obviously anything they are working on or have developed in the past is quite lame - without stating any hints what that may be other than that it should be faster, better and more. Sure, want some fries with that? -
That's a nice example of a good 'natural' backstory there... although I don't know if there is any sexual innuendo concerning the part about the alien centipede inside the girl...
-
Well, for Illu/Empath I would most certainly choose the non-human route as other 'natural' explanations for most powers from those sets might be quite a stretch.
As others suggested he could even be completely ignorant about his extraterrestial or extradimensional nature, raised in an orphanage or by superman-style 'parents'.
Then, at some point, he may have discovered his superhuman powers of the mind. (Could very well be while working as an assistant to a stage magician. Should have had quite an impact on the show.)
It could even be that he still doesn't know that he is no human and thinks his powers are magic or something like that. I sense some nice story hooks there...
