Odd though - had no problems on Saturday when I was on during the morning and evening.
-
From 1130am-12pm Sunday the lvl 35-38 Villains team I have been on has suffered extreme spikes in lag for about 5 minutes at a time over a 30 minute period, occasionally booting off a team member. It looked like it cleared up at the end of the mission, but I needed to head off to get some RL stuff done so I don't know if it persisted.

As things stand, no-One will be be drinking from the well as it was destroyed in the events following Marcus and Stephans' encounter with it in 'The Web of Arachnos' book.

A friend of mine picked up two of the 'novels' - I tried reading a few pages at random but was defeated by my eyeballs trying to claw their ways out of their sockets.
Occasionally when I'm round their flat I pick it up and read a paragraph or two aloud if they've been talking about CoD4 a lot. "Hah, bleeding ears again eh? That'll learn you to talk about cooking grenades and 'shotgun' classes for hours at a time!" -
Nice one chaps, thanks for clearing that up.
I figured there would be real world considerations like credit history, but it never really occurred to me about age restrictions.
So, if you're over 18 and have a good credit history the barriers are the (relatively small amount of) paper work involving setting up a credit card (recommended way of purchasing online anyway) and facing the question of whether or not you want a credit card.
I hope to see you back, DB. But if this is the event that tips you over to moving on then good luck old chap. -
Curious - why not use a credit card to pay for the sub? Set up a standing order with your bank to pay off the credit card each month and it's all more or less automatic, with no additional charges.

I would like a plushie or LEGO version of my character for 48 months please.

Lo Murgy! Sometimes I've found slow download speeds through the CoH Updater can be helped by restarting your adsl connection. Good luck!

I like the advice, especially the gentle reinforcement to check search text for 'no farming plz kthxbai'. As for the rest of the bickering (especially from experienced forumites that should know better), I present the following vignette:
"What's that, Thready? I can't hear you... croak louder if you can."
"KIIIIIIIILLLLLLLLLLLLLLL MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"
"Only Ghost Raptor can save us now! Quickly, use Mercy Killing Punch!" -

Lots of people moaned about that when NC did the CoH/CoV merge last year. It's pretty childish.

Presenting: Lionsbane and the Zen of Irony.
Good press release, looks like part of the continuing trend of increased playerbase friendliness. Nice one! -
Now. The Son of Jor-El will be my slave... forever. If not, the millions of Formumites you protect shall pay for your defiance.
Frankly I'd pay good money to hear Terrance Stamp say, "omglolwtfbbq." -
There are two patents that this thread proves would both make me independantly wealthy:
1. A machine for converting the power of toxic internet bickering into productive energy, and
2. A way of stabbing people in the face across the internets.
Oh, and PvP does suck because I am right, omglolwtfbbq roffle beans etc. -
"HI! I'm Barry Scott, and this is Cillit/Bang!" (Rad/Rad Corruptor).

At best this is a common-sense/personal flavour of Illusion. At worst it is a junk guide that could really confuse (no pun intended) folks new to Illusion Control. I am certain, however, that you are a unique and special snowflake - this criticism and the following are levelled at the guide, not you (unlike some of the other posts in this thread).
Superior Invisibility is excellent for zone travelling at pre-travel power levels, or PBAoE/short ranged buffs in the thick of a fight without risking aggro (I run an Illusion/Empath that makes great use of the latter). Grant Invisibility can be useful for positioning a team, excepting Tanks.
Deceive, if nothing else, can be excellent temporary aggro mitigation. Stacking Blind and Flash can be extremely useful in LT-heavy mobs.
Powers are not inherently worthless - it is how they are used that matters. A powerset guide bereft of strategy has no context and little value, unfortunately. -
Default movement, targeting and f-keys.
I seem to have fallen into using ctrl+p as "$target sighted" or equivalent, and ctrl+n for "Nova ready".
Kheldians: I use Z for Squid, C for Humon+Smash/Lethal Shield, Ctrl+C for Humon+Hover (useful for build-up, hasten, etc), Ctrl+V for Lobster.
Masterminds: Khabia numpad keybinds all the way! -
I *really* like this idea, I do. There are a few points to raise:
1. Atlas/Galaxy - in my experience nearly all toons except warshades choose Atlas. It could be argued a 2nd villains start point would be redundant, particularly with the relative population difference in CoH vs CoV.
2. Landmarks aside, they are stylistically quite homogeneous. I'd encourage Slumtown to break away and be different to Mercy - some sort of hilly badlands with linked shanty towns (taking zone building lessons learned in Cimeroa) and a definite set of recognisable landmarks (like the Mercy Towers, Atlas Plaza, etc); or a nightmare webway of cheap concrete and temporary building (like Norwich University was when I visited about a decade ago).
3. Weigh up the time on creating a low level zone that can be blown through in a few hours of solid play and take it away from developing more sweet features like Inventions, Player Generated Mishes, or mid-range content like Faultline, or endgame content like Grandville that will have more lasting appeal. Is it a wise investment of time? -
Obvious first piece of advice: I'd recommending not playing an MM if you're not enjoying it. No one's handing out any Man Tokens for it.
I'd seriously consider slotting your upgrade powers for EndRed and Recharge, especially your second tier one (2 EndRed 2 Rech I find works). This will improve your readiness to fight.
As Liz_Bathory points out sometimes you will walk into a mish with bads right on top of you. A RL chum of mine that runs the phenomenally successful Legion Reanimator (Necro/Poisons) calls this hot dropping, and it's a useful art to master. If you can deal with a hot drop you should have less problems with an unexpected decimation of pets, or throwing up a shield of pets to cover your retreat on a team wipe.
I also strongly recommend looking at Khabia's Numpad Binds - I've found them incredibly useful with my Bots/Dark, setting up independant stances (and attacks) with different tiers of pets. It's worth learning how keybinds work just for this IMO.
Finally - know your pets. Which ones benefit the most from the two different upgrades, which are your utility pets (Lich, Guardbots, Medic, etc), defense screen, balls forward aggressors and so on. This will help your flexibility when teaming with different ATs under different conditions (indoor/outdoor map, banks, rikti raids, street sweeping, etc). -

Then I get a /tell from a random lowbie saying something like (I don't recall, so I'll paraphrase): "No IOs on a L50? Man you suck!" I ignored him, but it demonstrates to me that at least one "gear-snob" has migrated here.

One player out of how many? Is it wise to base a judgement on the actions of one moment with one character out of the countless interactions you've had in CoX? I do not think 'the slippery slope' is a valid argument since technically CoX have already embarked on this path by showing the list of bonuses in the first place.
My first toon (and namesake), Broadsword/Inv Scrapper and lvl 50 for, hmm, over a year now, has only recently started getting IOed up. I've brought him out for ding runs, PuG TFs, and casual carnage on occasion only wielding SOs. Curiously I have never had anyone spouting, "Lol no sets u suxor" when I've been cleaving bads in half.
Alternatively you could say that your view is the pessimistic, where easily summarised information will lead to criticism. My view, not necessarily any more valid, is that the same concise information would tend to lead to comments like, "+19% global damage! Gadzooks!" -
Hmm, folks getting sniffy over a GG joke because it's not made by one of the elite forumites who seem to spend more time lurking on these boards than playing the game? Laugh? I nearly started...
That said I do have to say I disagree with all the non-animated lolbot related suggestions (embedding, more categories, bigger avatars) because it would lead to more clutter. I don't believe the OP mentioned anything about sigs, however. -
Why not show both under different option tabs (e.g. 'War & Peace' and 'Summary' tabs)?
The argument for *not* doing this is a good one on the surface - it risks exclusion by inf spent. On the other hand it strikes me that if someone is ******-retentive enough to filter team mates by Invention Set bonuses it's quite likely they will take the time to work out what player's bonuses are regardless.
How likely is introducing a summarised set of bonuses to change such an individual's behavior? And will this outweigh making the bonus summary display usuable for getting information on late-career toons? -

Thread alert... ED reference
[/ QUOTE ]
I wonder, do we need to say "ED" five times into a mirror at midnight before the Candybane turns up to gut us with his hook hand?
I'm a huge fan of homage - I think the drawing line is the character name. Otherwise I've seen toons resembling Thors, Hulks, more than a few Iron Men; and I've sported King of the Hawkmen, He-man and Leonadis costumes without issue (or using copyrighted names). Good luck! -
I would be against scaling up debt for team size for the reason that it might discourage teaming.

You're not a programmer Stase, but I am. Based on my experience, I can assure you that text strings for things like badges are NOT stored in your characters badge table; only ID numbers will be.
[/ QUOTE ]
Me too, wideload.
I see your point, but are you not you forgetting the extensive testing a change to such fundamental character data would require? For one thing it could play merry hell with the costume editor - you'd need to check all the gender specific costume items. I think you might get away with text content because I don't think reference is made to gender.
It's certainly not a reason to not do this, but it's disingenuous to suggest it would be a trivial change. -

I remember Andy Wildman's work in the UK Transformers Comics. Good times. *Nostalgia bomb...* -

Lowering Debt was a nerf aimed at Villains!

Sir, you also make me 'lol'! Have a necrocookie.
Debt never really mattered to me because I consider it a bad day when debt clips over to the next xp bar. I tend to leave trainwreck teams pretty shortly if there's no sign of improvement. -
The sad thing was that this thread was always going to end this way. It has become a testament to ego getting in the way of fun. Posts insisting that a given way of playing or interpretation of the game is 'correct' could be collectively considered a parallel example of how the game is NOT supposed to be played.
