The vhazalok plague holds a special place in my heart, really.

    [/ QUOTE ]
You should go to a doctor to have that checked out.

I'll throw in my two cents for Vernon von Grun - the writing is fun, the contact treats your villain with respect (you're the professional!), and it has cookies!
  2. Rule of thumb (since the devs based the merit reward on this) is to triple the merit reward to get the number of minutes (so, 20 merits/hr).

ex: Sister Psyche Task Force is 50 merits. This triples to 150 minutes, which is 2 hrs, 30 mins.

Note that I tend to use that as a highball estimate of time since most teams I'm on complete them in less time than it factors out to, but it's suitable for guessing.

It's a start, but another 45-50 SF doesn't really shore up the holes at lower levels.

I'd much rather see a 30-35 SF than another 45-50; at that level a villain has 3 to choose from already.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Can't we have both? And a 40-45 one as well, while we're at it.

    [/ QUOTE ]
I'd rather have choices for quite a few more level ranges, thus the "it's a start" part of the post quoted. As for 40-45, you can still do the ITF through that range, but there's literally no SFs for a level 31-34 to get experience on (Operative Renault at 30, Ice Mistral at 35 if you find enough higher levels or can handle +5s).

More SFs - and thus more choices - is never bad.

Any PvE content that requires you to do PvP content is inherently broken.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    It doesn't require it, though.

I've gone through plenty of runs where no nukes or shivans were needed, but they weren't by any random assortment of characters. There was some factor towards team construction in those; the only reason we set the master parameters on the PuG was because the "random assortment" that responded to the broadcasts consisted of mostly Corruptors with a few Brutes, the powersets meshed well for the idea, and all but one person had run it several times before and had familiarity.
  5. [ QUOTE ]
To everyone that's in support of the player over the GM/Staff:

As what was previously stated, you are getting the story from a disgrunteled player and his friends. You didn't get any comment, nor will you, from a GM on this matter because it's not THEIR form to air grievances in public.

    [/ QUOTE ]
That's why I included a lot of "if" statements in my posts.

But IF everything happened as described, the GM was clearly in the wrong (as well as the player for having the trademark violation). It should have stopped with the genericing and there was no need for further action beyond "I feel like deleting someone's character for no good reason".
  6. [ QUOTE ]
Lets say some slathering +3 Archvillain is at 90% To Hit.* That's actually 50% Base To Hit times 1.8 for rank (AV) and level (+3). So if you had 40% Defense that would be 10% To Hit times 1.8, or 18%, and if you had 45% Defense that would be 5% base times 1.8 or 9%. You cannot reduce the base below 5% and you can't reduce the final below 5%.

I hope that wasn't hopelessly obscure!

    * I don't know the true number but this makes for easy math.

    [/ QUOTE ]
It's a net 1.95x accuracy modifier for a "97.5%" chance that gets capped to 95, for anyone curious.

This also means that each point of +tohit or defense modifies it by that amount, too, so that at 45% defense the mob has a 9.75% chance to hit (which is as low as you can get it).

As for pulling in the last mission, I've gotten a 0 mob pull with my Dark/Cold. Moonbeam is 3-slotted with Centrioles (Dam/Range) and I have another IO from a set that's got a bit of range in it, too; running Arctic Fog I can snipe Numina, teleport to the group while it's on the way, and then wait...

    and wait...

    and wait...

About 30 seconds later without her moving I sniped her again and got Numina and Synapse.

Without knowing what happened in between, I can't say for certain, but if the story is as presented the GM should frankly be fired.

    [/ QUOTE ]

And the players who freaked out and had a protest deserve a 72hour time out, and the person who posted this thread deserves a temp forum ban, so what's your point?

Players who have a problem with GM action need to take it up with the GM, their superior, or a Community Rep, not freak out and cause disruptions that do more harm to the game and community than good.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Which was what I suggested (go over the GM's head). As for why the GM should be fired, because they're going out of line to harass a customer. The thread will likely get deleted and the protest hurts nothing and quite honestly was likely ignored by pretty much everyone not participating (much like most of the costume contests I see when running around).

    [ QUOTE ]
TonyV isn't out of line in expecting that people act like adults.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Expecting people to act like adults isn't out of line, but his original post (I started mine before he made his second) essentially amounted to "well, the EULA says they can do whatever they want whenever they want and if you don't like it, leave".

While it may be true, that doesn't mean that if they're going to start doing anything they want whenever they want - such as harassing someone about deleting a character that has already been genericed, and then deleting it themselves - they deserve anyone's business or support.
  9. [ QUOTE ]
    [ QUOTE ]
If the character was deleted by a GM after being genericed and you want them back (for badges, level 50 of those powersets, whatever) then go over their head. They had already resolved the copyright issue by genericing your character, and were out of line deleting it unless you went through the trouble of duplicating the costume and bio that they just erased.

And to people like TonyV, just because they have the right to do anything to your character per the EULA doesn't mean that they should, and if the character was still generic hero xxxx when deleted the GM doesn't deserve any support whatsoever for completely overreacting.

Without knowing what happened in between, I can't say for certain, but if the story is as presented the GM should frankly be fired.

    [/ QUOTE ]

The OP doesn't say that the character in question was deleted by a GM. The story is that a GM is demanding that the player delete the character, which is ridiculous for two reasons: 1) that doesn't happen and 2)if the GM felt the character *did* need deleted they would just do it themselves and not "demand" that the player does.

    [/ QUOTE ]

I'm referring to this part here:[ QUOTE ]
As it is the character was erased last night after I went offline.

    [/ QUOTE ]
    Highlighted the important part.

Yes, it's not in the OP, but it's from the person who says they owned the character - and the one that my reply was directed to.

    That shouldn't have happened.
  10. If the character was deleted by a GM after being genericed and you want them back (for badges, level 50 of those powersets, whatever) then go over their head. Edit: note that I don't have an issue with the initial genericing, it's the character deletion that's totally out of line
  11. [ QUOTE ]
This OP was singletarget only. Quills from spines was added only because it would be hitting that single target in question.

The last few posts gave just some of the reasons why it won't be me doing the aoe comparisons.

    [/ QUOTE ]
Yeah, that's also why I tend to ignore Starsman's charts for AoE - he has a "typical number hit" that I don't always agree with since it tends to minimize the effect of AoE area. His criteria for attack chains was "highest DPA that's currently recharged" which is similar enough to mine that I use it for single target, though.
  12. Since I was the one posting about SL and MG being "break even" attacks for Fury, let me clarify the position some - it was in a thread discussing poor generation on a DM/DA, and mathematically they are break even attacks.

Since Oppressive Gloom and Cloak of Fear reduce the number of incoming attacks, you have to look at the chains in that scenario, and MG -> Sm -> SL -> Sm still will generate Fury (Smite is short enough of an animation it will increase overall each time it cycles). In the same thread, I also recommended leaving OG and CoF off until you have a good Fury level so that the incoming attacks build it up faster.

For the most part I agree that incoming attacks will make up more Fury than your attack chain will, and I've never had trouble with Fury generation while solo, but that's not the situation in every case. Energy Aura on a team with another Brute is another example of a situation where you're going to need to work on building Fury because someone else is going to be pulling all of the aggro off of you.
  13. Y'know, I never bothered to further simplify just because I usually end up having the recharge time needed stored in memory in the calculator (having just calculated out either the addition of the animation times between activations) and hitting / MR was easy enough that I never thought about making it any simpler once I isolated the variable.

thay cannot be sued by US copyright laws for someone having a character that looks SIMILAR to a copyrighted name/face/character/fart smell. All this is, is NCSoft taking draconion measures to "protect" themselves from now non-existant copyright lawsuits.

    [/ QUOTE ]

Hmmm so Marvel and DC comics filing lawsuits that NcSoft settled out of court was nothing?

    [/ QUOTE ]
You can sue for anything. The question is whether or not you actually have a case, and how much will it cost to prove whether there is one or not in court.

Larger companies can afford the lawyer fees, smaller companies frequently can't. Thus the bullying and out of court settlements simply to avoid the whole issue.
  15. [ QUOTE ]
Blueside go Scrapper or Tanker. Scrapper if you want to solo well, Tanker if you want to solo slowly.

Redside (which is, in my opinion, more fun) go Brute, Corruptor, or Mastermind. Probably Brute or Corruptor. Dominator is kind of strange, and Stalker is just plain weak for most purposes. (They do excel at what they do, which makes them the only redside AT with a clear and unique role, unlike blueside, where specialization abounds.)

    [/ QUOTE ]
Stalkers have always soloed very well, they just didn't have a clearly defined role on a team. With the Stalker buffs allowing hidden status to come back faster, a higher damage modifier, and increased critical chances they can compete with and in some cases outdo Brutes on damage - it's just that more damage isn't often needed on a redside team.

I wouldn't say "weak for most purposes" though - if I were building a team I'd give them the same place as a 2nd or 3rd Brute. They essentially have the same "team role" as Scrappers.
  16. ...

Sorry that everything blew up. I would've come along but my highest Controller here is a level 2 nameholder and the highest Dominator is level 14.

I'm not sure what was going on with either team but some of the fingerpointing after the fact makes me .

Hm, I hadn't considered the -KB on Fences. Turboman relies on knockdown from Lightning Rod and Thunderstrike quite a bit.

Lightning and Ball Lightning still sound pretty awesome though.

    Any opinions on the pet?

    [/ QUOTE ]
Never had the desire to take it, so I can't say anything about the pet. I've only ever taken the patron pet on my Fire/Kin Corruptor, so I have something to Speed Boost when I'm solo.

As for the -KB in Electric Fences, it can be useful - it certainly makes Lightning Clap a lot more attractive of a power.

Doing a Google search for Nexus Argos came up with full bio page with photo.
    https://www.virtueverse.com/index.ph...;printable=yes
The character is almost an exact clone of Captain Mar'vell, even the bio. The kicker? at the bottom of the page it reads "Character influenced by Captain Mar-vell from Marvel Comics "

    [/ QUOTE ]

INFLUENCED BY, not a direct rip off, doesnt even look anything like captain marvel. and i love how people hide behind the EULA these days for any decision that the GM/Mod/Devs make, they are just happy to give up 15+ dollars a month per account to let these people do what ever they want all in the name of some bullshyte EULA that just gets changed without notice to what ever they want it to say at the time.

Was probably thinking of the DC version, which is more widely known.

As for the demand for deletion, it probably came from the person who petitioned and not the GM - as mentioned, if the GM wanted the character gone it simply would've been. If there's an actual email from an NCSoft GM with wording like that, it certainly wouldn't be an in-game protest for me... although I probably wouldn't demand to see that GM's pink slip after I go way over their head for abuse of the customers.
  19. I think my longest ITF was a little over 2 hours, but I forget the exact number. Lag was hitting everyone hard and we had several people dc that we waited for.

The shortest one I've personally been on is around 37 minutes, but there were some screenshots posted in the Infinity section for a 20 minute, 10 second run.
  20. [ QUOTE ]
But that's also a logical fallacy... AS an enemy scales to higher level than you, so too does his accuracy. The purple patch is all but irrelevant at that point, since +def is overcome by better accuracy and -tohit is better resisted thanks to his level.

    [/ QUOTE ]
This is completely false and a logical fallacy of its own.

The accuracy is applied after and tohit/defense calculations, and so affects both of +defense and -tohit the same way, so you want the higher number after the debuff resistance is applied. Keep in mind a +3 mob resists the debuff to the point where it's 65% effective, making defense buffs look much more attractive if you're running on higher difficulty.

An equivalent base percentage defense buff will outdo a tohit debuff against any mob higher level than you, AV or not. They're just usually smaller than the tohit debuff values.

    Here.
  21. Team +def is greater than mob -tohit of the same value. If you're the only one getting defense, the -tohit helps the team more, though.

The way that the game calculates it, a tohit debuff is identical to a defense buff of the same value on the target, but the issue is that tohit debuffs are resisted by the purple patch (ie, less effective against mobs higher level than you) and defense buffs are not. Tohit debuffs are also subject to AV debuff resistance, so a 25% tohit debuff is around 3.75% on a level 50 AV.

Now, the fact that most +defense powers have smaller values than the tohit debuffs causes the actual practice to even out or lean towards debuffing until you start running into AVs - there aren't any +25% defense powers and plenty of -25% (or higher) tohit debuffs.

Edit: bah, beat to it. Also, since it's in the OP which I just skimmed, the Corruptor defense cap is 175% - anything above 45% only matters when fighting +6 or higher mobs, dealing with defense debuffs, or mobs having tohit buffs. I've hit the cap several times (Gift of Defense is just insane).
  22. re: both of your posts in this thread:[ QUOTE ]
"I might not be 'l33t', but that doesn't change that you're still a noob..."

    [/ QUOTE ]

Never had any trouble in the STF, and every run has been a random "bring whatever you want" team.

In all fairness, I usually don't have trouble with the RSF either until people start leaving in the middle of it and the team is shorthanded at the end. My MLRSF run was a PuG without a /Stone Brute that decided to go ahead and set it since we knew we'd be able to complete it if someone died anyway (5 team members had Vengeance).

From my experience, any team can beat the STF.
From my experience, any team that brings Shivans and nukes can beat the LRSF (at that point, you're simply a carrier for temp powers).

As for the entire topic, I personally don't find the RSF too hard; but for the people that do you get better merits by running the co-ops (ITF/LGTF) and IOs are generally better than SHOs for most builds so it's still completely optional.

I would like more SFs redside, though.
  23. Siolfir

    What to pick?

Which to pick is a matter of personal preference and what you're looking for out of your Brute.

SS/SR will have both good single target and AoE damage, but will be a late bloomer and you'll definately have to take endurance costs into account when building.

DM/SD will focus more on single target and have less AoE, but Dark Consumption will help with your endurance and you have a decent heal to keep your hit points topped off in your primary. You'll have Shield Charge for some AoE, though.

If you get the endurance under control, I'd recommend SS/SR (I'd actually pair DM/SR and SS/SD just using those powersets).
