Quote:Agree completely. It is a great, fast paced TF that makes me feel like a superhero, not some clown facerolling the keyboard. If this is the direction things are going in, I am very excited.Just want to put it out there that Apex is my favorite Task Force by a large margin. What I like about it is that it throws the gauntlet at you from the start, and never lets up. While other TFs have moments I enjoy (Mary McCromber in Katie Hannon, the siege on City Hall in the revised Posi 1, and the nictus/minotaur stomping in the ITF's second mission) Apex is like a "best of" reel.
The best thing for me, is it can be reasonably done in less than an hour. That means I can actually finish it before kids wake up, or my wife needs me to do something. That means less aggro from my wife. I need to explain to teammates that I need to split less often which means less occasions that I need to feel guilty for splitting. I feel like I can actually do TF's again. -
Quote:So all this back and forth because I didn't say the bolded:No, I'm NOT arguing that. And you never argued that the entire character had layered defenses, although you might have been thinking it. You said DARK had layered defenses. Dark, dark, dark -- not Dark/Stone. THAT'S what I took issue with.
Dark has resistances, a great heal, and insignificant +defense. If "resistances + heal = layered, that's stretching the word "layered" pretty thin. Maybe Dark's controls do count, and I should have thought of them as defenses (as opposed to "controls") in this context -- that's where you should have made your (verbal) stand, not on "but I've soft-capped" (not specific to Dark) or "but Stone..." (not specific to Dark) or "but pools..." which you just now introduced, also not specific to Dark.
You're building a straw man by disputing claims I never made. I totally understand and enjoy synergies and all the other stuff you say isn't in my perspective. I was only saying that saying I don't find Dark by itself (as you implied) particularly layered. On that narrow ground, what is your response? If you meant to say something else, go ahead.
Except that each has significant defense, significant resistance, more hit points, increased regen (huge for Willpower, somewhat less for Inv if you count the effects of Dull Pain's hit point boost on Inv's regen rate) and in Inv's case also a large, long-recharge heal. That's 4-5 types of defenses from the secondaries alone, not 2.
Sure it can.
Quote:The possibility of capped S/L/E/N defense, good resistances and the best heal in the game isn't layered? What the hell is? -
Quote:Actually I was refering to the disorient from fault stacking with Opressive gloom. Enough mag to make even bosses stop punching your face and wobble around. However, it has been argued that using KB/KD can infact increase surviveability. It could therefore be argued that that is a form of mitigation. Obviously, It cant be argued with you, and frankly, I am not even a fan of that position.C'mon. You're just messing with me now. It's SinisterDirge who brought capped defense in as an example of layering, not me. And that capped defense can be achieved in this case only with IOs -- so I didn't bring IOs into it either.
And now you're (SinisterDirge) claiming the knockdown in Stone makes Dark "layered?"
Examples of layered defenses: Invulnerability, Willpower.
We are not going to be able to agree here. Obviously you are standing from a perspective that only uses the secondary as mitigation, no pool powers, no IO's, no primary/secondary synergy. Nothing but the defense set and SO's... From that perspective, Willpower and invuln are not very layered either. From that perspective, I wouldn't be interested in playing any of the defense sets. -
Quote:Plus the disorients and kd+kb from stone. All mitigation.Dark itself is still layered with stun/fear/res/heal/def. Not capped out of the box but still has 5% def.
Sailboat, I didnt realize that IOs were not allowed. I am still interested in knowing what you find to have excellent layered defences. -
Quote:Absolutely. However, I have met many jackasses in this game long before IO's. Softcap has nothing to do with it. Op didnt mention a brute once.If it went down like that, the Brute the Op is talking about was just a jackass then.
Quote:If you join a tf, realize you are the only tank/brute, and see no heavy support bubblers and Emps, then still act like a 'tard....well, it's just griefing, incompetence or stupidity tbfh.
Quote:I hope to hell I never get to the point where this attitude pervades my life. Not being narcissistic, it's unlikely.
This is a video game, where you interact with how many people? You rely on everyone else to keep you alive, and buffed, the mobs debuffed, the tank to hold all the aggro, the troller/dom to keep all the enemies locked down all the time, the blasters nova to never miss... you seriously expect that? What server do you play on? The PUGs I am on are like watching a race for people with no sense of direction. -
No one wants to look like a fool with their plants on the ground.
-
Quote:Thinking that the OP would join not one, but several pugs that decided it was cool to have the softcapped defender "tank", and still decided to complain about deaths on the team here on the forums, makes me loose a little more faith in humanity.I didn't parse the sentence that way. I parsed the initial sentence as:
"Sure, I'm a defender, but I've got soft-capped defenses; I can tank."
Sure once, okay, but a few times? Isn't expecting a different result a measure of insanity?
As for my response to him, I gave more than just the tank example to subtly say to the OP that the only person you can count on is yourself, and even then you are bound to be dissapointed on occasion. That is nothing new and has nothing to do with softcap. -

Quote:CorruptorsI've been playing a support class for a while and would like to play something that's a world beater. Something that can handle x1/x8 (or higher), not melee and not a controller. Is their such a thing?
Defenders
Masterminds(easily)
Doms(Or are they too much like controllers?)
Crabs
Blasters
Missing anything folks? -

If you are going to quote Samual L. It should probably be in all caps. CAUSE THATS HOW HE MFing TALKS!
-
My fire/fire tank has a no wait for any power aoe attack chain. BU+FE, Burn, FSC, Fireball and Combustion. Thats with blazing aura. Pyronic Judgement here I come. Also, its a little sturdier than an fire/fire blaster.
However, If you are looking for the absolute most AoE's a toon can put out, will probably have to go with a Rad/Fire or a Fire/Fire blaster with a blistering 10 AoE's, cones, and pbaoe aura's. Add another 2 if you take leviathan patron. -
Quote:If there is aggro beyond the cap, what exactly do you expect the tank/brute to do? Again, if you are targeting through the aggro holder, you should be fine. Personally, if I was that squishy, damn the team, I will be on that tank tighter than his shadow.Well i have quit 2 Itfs because of this but now seem to have a reputation for quitting Itfs lol.And i am in no way a bad player but when you play a squishy and there is aggro beyond the cap and you end up on the floor a few times then thats just no fun.Teaming is just that...Teaming.If you wanna run off because you can then dont team tbh.

Not to take anything away from Pyro, but Dechs has explained it better than I have ever read elsewhere.

Quote:I've seen blasters run ahead trying to do big mobs since release. Scrappers have always had that feature as well. Tanks unable to keep aggro is nothing new either.Does anyone see more people on teams playing in a more solo type way just because they are soft capped? I've seen blasters run ahead trying to do big mobs alone while main team are still busy. And people saying they can tank yadda yadda even tho they can't actually control the aggro.
I think these days it isn't wrong to expect a certain amount of self reliance in the team. If the tank is not pulling all the aggro as you would expect him to (brutes, and any high damage aoe toons definately compete for aggro) go old school and target through him. -
Quote:I am an impatient man, but even I can wait the 20 minutes it takes to get to lvl 6 and fly/teleport and superjump.Bah.
Khelds are quite powerful at lower levels. Fly/teleport at lvl 1. Nova at lvl 6.
It is at 50 that people think they dont stand up not leveling up.
This people dosen't think they are worth leveling up period. All power to folks that do, just can't myself. -
There are many, many tips on spines.
Have been interested in the combo for awhile now, however, think I may wait until spines get proliferated to brutes(please) -
I almost regret deleting my lvl 50 warshade after I read Dechs guide. Not enough to roll a new one though... Yet.

Speaking of music, anyone else here hum the fantasia tune when the swords are approaching on the roof?

Quote:Need to set up an mob taxibot service. We bring the mobs to you! "Rush Order!" "Launch him off the globe!"Not yet. I'm hoping once I get more slots into TP Foe for range, I will be able to. As it is now, I can't get them close enough to the globe (have to get them past the police drones without getting zapped) and get to the top of the globe and have TP Foe up again already before they run away, back out of range.
Right now, I'm settling for pushing them (with Force Bubble) to the bottom of the stairs in front of Ms. Liberty and then using Power Push to hit the RP'ers standing under Atlas in the head. >.>
I'm mean like that. -
Peacebringer. It comes gimped right out of the box
