Quote:I have to raise a tiny kitty eyebrow at the mention of phrases like "game-breaking", "overpowered", and "segregation", as these (again!) sound like they are being bandied-about with regard to PvP.
I dont pvp and yet still think it would be over powered. Crazy, I know.
Quote:This feature (at least) is *not* divisive, but available to everyone who chooses to pursue it.
Please explain to me with a straight face how anything in this game is unavailable to to anyone who chooses to pursue it. -
Quote:This superiority thing isn't helping anyone mate.I think the real reason is a combination of the fact that unfortunately, a lot of people are simply cretins who don't like to read, and the prevalence of the WoW-attitude that the game begins at 50 or for some reason a toon at the level cap is the thing to get as soon as possible. And it is easy to get to 50 quickly in the AE.

Quote:The devs have an excellent track record of making content obsolete. To be fair to them, the playerbase is just as good at it. Praetoria for example.Let's extend this beyond AE. Striga, Faultline, and Croatoa all have solid story arcs and doing two of them unlock TFs. Croatoa also gives significant exp rewards for completing the final mission for a contact. Now, when was the last time you saw teams being built for those zones and how often does it happen period? I think CoH in part suffers from content overload and adding more to it via AE just adds to the problem. The AE UI could be changed to help counter with this as well.

Quote:It is human nature unfortunately. Give a guy $10 every day for a week, for no reason, and the next day don't give the guy the cash, and there is a good chance he will be pissed at you completely oblivious to the fact he was getting it for no reason and actually convinced he deserves the money.I don't think the devs are necessarily "ok" with it. I think it's more that they don't bother to fix exploits until they go mainstream. I'm not particularly thrilled with that approach myself since it tends to breed an attitude amongst players that exploits are ok.
Not fixing the exploits gives the people reporting these exploits the feeling that the devs dont care, and are indeed okay with it until they are not. They are only not okay with it when the devs feel it reaches a critical mass. For the MM exploit for instance, that was closed up relatively quickly, but bile spray? Months. -
Atlas park broadcast on any server is not a proper sampling of any playerbase.
Justice is one of my servers, but I only hit atlas when rolling a new toon. -
I have a Sonic/DP defender build that is softcapped and at effectivly 68.8% before factoring in the extra -dmg the -resists do. That is also before void, paralytic and without Hail of bullets -25% damage factored in. Sonic helps with the damage aspect.

Quote:It is unfortunate for sure. If that is indeed the case, I am not sure how blaming farmers solves anything when it sounds like it may be the apathy of the MA community. The only problem is that even the MA community is to the point where it's almost done with it. I'm not trying to brag, but I would say that I'm a fairly well known name in the MA community. I've made a few pretty good arcs. But getting anyone to play my newest arc feels like pulling teeth sometimes. I use the MA Arc Finder channel and it has gotten me exactly 1 play. Another one of my channels got me 1 play, and I got my third today while teaming.
In my playtime, it is very rare to find someone on a global channel putting together an AE team to play arcs. I think I can remember one time. Considering I have two servers main channels in my global list, that is anemic support. I also very rarely see people advertising a farm team being put together, but thats because farmers are dirty and aren't interested in the backlash. -
Quote:Not sure if serious. Are you proposing that only people without uber IO'ed incarnate builds are allowed to purchase extra slots, or do you think it is a good idea to constantly chase after the same power as those same incarnates, then realizing they are even more powerfull and must be chased again? Not really sure why folks think this would be unbalanced. With all those level 50+ Uber Incarnates running around now how could you ever notice the difference in terms of game balance?
Seriously. . . Where does it really become unbalanced?
Nevermind the fact that those same IO'ed to the gills incarnate builds are already available to everyone who plays the game. -
You can already get that kind of effiency slotting IO sets, or frankenslotting. Add two more slots on top of that? Very powerfull.
As many times as I have said that I could really use an extra slot right now, I think it is a bad idea for game balance reasons. -
Quote:Everything can be improved, no doubt. In the meantime you can use the current interface to ask and find the 3 star michelins (no such thing as a 5 star). Just going page by page is as ridiculous as me searching for a decent farm mission page by page.Well, yes, my presence on this forum should show that i don't put much store in the AE interface. But you and i are outliers. The in-game AE search interface needs to be improved.
The taxi driver needs to say 'You want fast food, or you want a michelin 5-star?'. At the moment, he takes you to Burger King every time.
Eco.
EDIT: My sig is a comment on my own Arc review column, btw -

Add Paralytic and void to stack up some -damage. If you want to go the incarnate route.
You have done the math correctly. -
I Freaking Love analogies!
Quote:I arrive in a new town, eager to sample its culinary delights.
Quote:I check in to my hotel and freshen up, and then grab a taxi.
"Take me to where the good restaurants are, please!" I say.
Quote:The taxi driver drops me off in a busy main square where every single eaterie is a KFC, McD, Burger King, Spud U Like or Subways.
Quote:It turns out that the restaurants with well-crafted quality meals are hidden away in windy back alleys and way out in the suburbs and suchlike.
Quote:The town is the AE.
Quote:The fast-food joints are the AE farm arcs.
Quote:The 'good' restaurants are the AE story-arcs.
Quote:The Taxi Driver is the AE search interface.
As a final note, in regards to your sig.
"Creating something is not a democracy. The people have no say. The artist does. It doesn't matter what the people witter on about: they and their response come after. They're not there for the creation." - Russell T Davies
Judging MA arcs is a democracy. The people do have a say. The artist does not. It doesn't matter that the artist complains about how stupid the system is, the judgment remains the same. The people dont have to be there for the creation in order to judge it.
(Keep in mind sometimes my trade is considered an art, the plate is my canvas, the ingredients my paint) -
Where they said you would be able to lvl up from 1-50 in MA? Where you can be rewarded? If they don't want farmers to use MA, kill the rewards. Just be carefull what you wish for.
Quote:The Devs constantly talking about us being able to create our own story arcs.
Quote:Their repeated attempts to curb farming.
Are you confusing curbing farming with stopping exploiting? Because I remember Posi making a statement that he would be banning people found exploiting the MA and possibly even deleting toons found to be leveled using those exploits. Yes, it was a little ambiguous, and purposefully so, but it didnt mention or specifically target farming.
Now pay attention, cause this is important for you to remember. The devs are even okay with exploits. As long as it stays under the radar, and doesnt get too popular(Freedom atlas broadcasts for exploit farms for example) they seem to be perfectly fine turning a blind eye to it. As an example, I will use Bile spray, which for months was used as an exploit to bypass the max target settings. The devs knew about this for months and only decided to close it down once they decided that too many people were taking advantage of the exploit. Now officially, they will never say "sure its fine", but much like a cop, sometimes they are willing to turn that blind eye.
I agree with you that exploits should be closed, but it should be done consistantly
Quote:Dear god, the fact that you have to ask for a source really doesn't shine well upon you. -

Quote:Exploiting should be crushed. There is a difference you know.If they had to make a change to block an exploit that in some way negative impacted the ability to tell a story I might not be happy with it but I'd accept it because yes, farming must be crushed.
Quote:And yet here you are. You obviously care enough to come into our house to tell us UR DOIN IT WRONG despite, evidently, having no idea what issues we actually face.
What issues? You are not getting enough tickets rolling in because the majority of people arn't playing your arc? That you arn't getting ranked high enough to get an HOF arc? Those are the issues stated in this thread. You brought up the profanity filter which has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not farming is indeed okay in AE.
Seriously? Your house. Please. So quick to label and segregate people into their stereotypes. How about we are all players, playing the same game mate. That badger over there? He's a player. I dont see the appeal, but I dont begrudge him it. The Marketer? She's cool. The PVPers? sure, they might be a little frothy at the mouth, and I don't appreciate the smack talk. I dont say they should be removed once and for all and close the pvp zones. I also feel bad that the devs have basically destroyed what they loved about the game. That is horrible. I can feel that way and have no interest in pvp at the same time. Folks who love to write arcs for the game? Awesome! Respect. I sure as hell can't do it. I don't care if you write stories or farms or whatever, but I will fight to the bitter end that you should be allowed to. So If I like to farm, I expect to be treated the same.
Quote:Case in point. We're more than a little past PMs. -
Quote:Pretty sure comparing a accidental change to the proffanity filter to someone intentionally stabbing your canvas is a weak comparison.Pretty sure Venture's talking about the current profanity filter gaffe that affected writers but not farmers and we haven't been given any sort of update to whether or not there's been another update to it.
If I was vested in it, I would probably PM the devs. The squeeky wheel gets the grease. The grindy, seized up wheel gets thrown out and ignored. -
Not to me. I find often a strategic PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE is the most effecient and direct way to express oneself.
To quote(okay, paraphrase) the late George Carlin:
Perhaps one of the most interesting words
in the English language today, is the word PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE.
Out of all of the English words which begin with the letter P, PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE is the only word referred to as the "P" word, it's the one magical word.
PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE as most words in the english language,
is derived from German,
the word "pancakin", which means to strike.
In English, PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE falls into many grammatical categories.
As a transitive verb, for instance.
John PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-ed Shirley.
As an intransitive verb, Shirley PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE.
It's meaning's not always sexual;
it can be used as an adjective, such as
John's doing all the PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-ing work.
As part of an adverb,
Shirley talks too PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-ing much.
As an adverb enhancing an adjective,
Shirley is PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-ing beautiful.
As a noun, I don't give a PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE.
As part of a word abso-PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-lutely,
or in-PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-credible.
And, as almost every word in the sentence,
PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE the PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-ing PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-ers.
As you must realize,
there aren't too many words
with the versatility of PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE.
As in these examples describing situations
such as fraud,
I got PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-ed at the used car lot.
Dismay, Aw PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE it.
Trouble, I guess I'm really PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-ed now.
Agression, Don't PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE with me buddy.
Difficulty, I don't understand this PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-ing question.
Inquiry, Who the PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE was that?
Dissatisfaction, I don't like what the PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE is going on here.
Incompetence, He's a PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE-off.
Dismissal, Why don't you go outside and play hide-and-go-PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE yourself?
I'm sure you can think of many more examples.
With all these multi purpose applications,
how can anyone be offended when you use the word?
We say, use this unique, flexible word more often in your daily speech.
It will identify the quality of your character immediately.
Say it loudly, and proudly!
PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE you! -
Quote:You mean the guys who own all the brushes, easels, canvas's and paid for the paint that I am using to tell my story? I would probably find a different medium to express what I am compelled to express. Or, you know, buy my own paint.OK, you're a True Artist(TM). You don't make as much and aren't as well-known as the losers down the street that churn out crap but hey, it's all about the art.
Then the guys who run the local gallery come in, pull the hair out of your brushes, smash your easels, knife your canvases and spill your paint on the floor. The losers, they leave alone. Actually, they buy more of the losers' stuff.
What message would you take away from this?
The devs didn't personally come to your house and shoot your dog mate. Changes are made to the medium. They didnt make a change to piss you, Venture, off personally, so dont take it that way.
If it was nessessary to close an exploit, then I figure you as an "artist" would be happy with that as it culls the exploitive farming, and hey, all farming must be crushed right?
If it was because someone put a zero where there was supposed to be and used to be a one, then tell them that.
Its a medium, use it how you wish. I dont really care what you do with it. -

Seems like every PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE swear word is now automatically turned into a breakfast(oh, who are we kidding, they are PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE great all the PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE time) pastry.
I love this PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE. -
Quote:A true artist doesn't care how many people love their work, they do it for themselves, not others. So, waste a slot writing a "good" farm so it makes Hall of Fame and that will give you an "extra" slot. Brilliant!
If however, you want to get paid(tickets) or want to be acknowledged (HOF) then I recommend writing for your audience.
Or you can PANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKEPANCAKE and moan that your talent is not appreciated and that no one "gets" you. Shine on. -
You would not believe it. I used to have to filter through all the dev's choice arcs, and Hall of Fames before I could find a farm.
Write for your audience. If the audience is all farmers, and you want free tickets, write a farm. Farms only getting the hof's? and you want your extra arc slot, write a farm. make it a good one. make it the best.
Or keep up the whole starving artist thing. Everyone hates a sell out.
