Quote:I think that is a situation where we the player needs to decide what to go after. Defence, recharge, resistance etc. You can't have it all.Allowing anyone (even a Blaster) to build up high defence AND resistance would be too much. And if both were offered on IOs, people would find a way. (I've managed to build some very nice recharge and defence bonuses on the same character, for example, so its never either-or with IOs)
Quote:Of the two, Defence is more easily circumvented. Defence debuffs, To Hit Bonuses are very common in enemy groups, whereas unresistable Resistance debuffs are almost non-existent. (Longbow used to have them, or still do?)
Quote:I'd disagree that Resistance based sets get left out in the cold, since they can build layered defence using IOs to complement their innate heals and resistance. My Fire Armor scrapper and elctric Armor tanker have had a lot of success with that approach. -

Why is resistance so dangerous to game balance?
Has there ever been any official discussion with the playerbase as to why set IO bonuses favor defence over resistance? In short, there is almost no point what so ever(imo mind you.) to slot for resistance(Never you mind fa brutes, you are outliers.), but it is almost a no brainer to get at least a small purple away from the softcap. I understand it takes almost twice the amount of percentage numbers to get to the resistance cap, but wouldn't it make sense that set bonuses should then at least offer twice the amount of resistance than defence? For(an incorrect example. Please ignore underlined.) example the Steadfast res/def IO increases both by 3% Would it be unbalanced for it to offer 3% def and 6% resistance? Another example. Purple inspirations are always more powerfull percentage wise than an orange of the same teir. I don't understand it. Considering defence offers mez protection by avoiding the attack altogether, it can be argued that defence is already a superior way to go.
Next, why does powerboost not affect resistance powers at all? If it affects defence powers, isnt it fair for it to affect resistance? I understand it is debatable as to whether it affecting defence is balanced or not, I am just wondering if anyone knows at least part of the reason why that decision was made.
Is it because back in the day, defence was the red headed stepchild, and in order to balance defence and resistance, resistance needed to be handicapped? Please understand, I am not nerf herding defence, I am trying to figure out why resistance doesn't get the same support.
Thanks folks. -
The combination looks pretty solid to me. Many folks are bemoaning the fact that pets get nothing from the +rech. It doesnt phase me at all.
Positional softcap(easily brought to iSoftcap if desired) very decent healing for both you and your pets, and some very decent regeneration for your pets as well.
The -dmg paired with paralytic interface gives you even better layering of defense. Add tough and bodyguard mode to that and you will be pretty hard to kill.
The +damage and +tohit will ensure your pets are hitting hard even against higher con mobs.
The only hole I see is lack of mez protection which is very easily filled by clarion.
180%+ +recharge means you will be firing your debuffs so fast you wont have time to stand still watching your bots kill ****.
Here is a build I put together. There is a lot of room to play with slots in this combination without losing any of the main goals. As I said earlier, can easily iSoftcap if you put Scorpion shield in and give it a slot or two.

Storm/Bots MM. It is ridiculous the amount of damage this combination can do.
-
20% chance for 10.25 seconds. AFAIK it doesnt vary because it grants the target a temporary power that works the same way regardless of level.
-
Except it isn't terrible. It was critiqued by the Op as mediocre. Are you suggesting the Op should tell customer service it is terrible in order to garner sympathy in hopes of a refund? That sounds kind of dishonest.
-
Op, as a chef you go to a favorite restaurant and order something new off the menu, something that reads very well from the description(No, the description doesn't include the name of the cow the meat came from, or the address of the kid who picked the veggies that morning, but it is a good description.), yet hasn't had a chance to be reviewed by any critics. Now it turns out that you don't like that dish. It isnt the most horrible thing you have put in your mouth, and it is not off, so you won't get food poisoning, but it is clearly not the best thing you have wrapped your tongue around either. Do you:
A: Ask the other patrons of the restaurant what the refund policy is.
B: Chalk it up to experience and not order something new until it has been critiqued.
C: Threaten to take your biznatch elsewhere.
D: Talk to an actual representative of the restaurant. -
Quote:I find this idea of never respecing amusing. The powers change. sometimes for the better, sometimes for worse. Not being able to change them out would make many people frustrated.I've never, ever, respeced. Ever. I make a character, and it's the way I want it. Every time. And not due to Mids. Due to my looking at the powers that the character can grow into, making a list, and then modifying it as I see gaps in the armor, so to speak, but NEVER going back and saying "oh, that power sucks" or "Oh, I wish I'd done THIS with the character..."

Quote:PM me what server you are on, and what times you generally play at. Would be happy to show you how quickly you can make 150m.I'm also going to take a look into how hard/easy it's to come up with 150M influence in the almost 7 weeks until my time card runs out. I'm still not sure it will be enough to keep me playing, but depending on how much time farming that much money can take, I might reconsider.

It is a psychological barrier that unfortunately only you are going to be able to work around. The game does give options for unlimited respecs, if you want to put in the leg work. It is trivial to get to the point where you can pay for respecs from other players. Last five is just that. You are not forced to bid that much, you can place extremely low ball bids and wait for them to fill, but I doubt that will ever be enough to sate your need for a safety net.
Of all the detractors of the game that take issue with whatever it is du jour, it is unfortunate that you cant stick around. The game can use more folks who can disagree with a aspect of the game without getting all frothy at the mouth. -
Mids. Use it. Love it.
You have 3 builds to choose from. F one up, level up a different one.
I dont understand how someone can f up a toon so often, or just want to change powers like they were costume slots. Okay, maybe PVP builds, but other than that, I am yet to run out of respec options on a toon.
Most likely the game just aint for you. Too bad really, because the more the merrier. -
Log in. Kill lots of stuff.
Keep in mind, you have a chance for one to drop per kill per team member, so the larget the team, and the more mobs being killed, the better your chances are.
ITF is a popular choice for shard farming. As are ship raids. -
Octoberfest is coming up. Don't forget to visit the german server to complete the evening.

Quote:LOL. Dude. This is like yelling at a table in a restaurant for overtipping the waitress. You are awesome. Your wankitude can been seen from outer space.Aww. How cute. I touched a nerve. Isn't just so adorable?
Its' a job. It pays the bills. They do it because it is something they wanted to do. Am I supposed to congratulate them for:
... showing up to work when their bosses tell them to?
... doing the work their bosses tell them to do?
... making the decisions their bosses tell them to?
... being reasonably competent in the general sense?
I'm supposed to thank them for doing these things? Really?
My "thanks", such as it is, comes in a monetary form.
I continue to pay them for their work. I act towards them and speak with them in a reasonable manner when I am forced to interact with them, in return for reasonable service and a reasonable product. In exchange for my "thanks" (read: money), I am allowed to play the game, to receive further service as needed within a reasonable response time and to otherwise be one of the hundred thousand nameless and faceless customers who don't cause trouble and who thereby are mostly ignored.
But! None of that matters to you. We must sing their praises, in addition to paying them for the privilege. Heh. When they do something exceptional, then I shall join the choir of praise or condemnation as appropriate. Until then? Pfft. -
Elec/Dark Brute. So much promise, so much disapoint. The long animation times of elec mellee make it really difficult to time firing off Dark Regen. When I needed it, I needed it it now.
Warshade. Just can't. Had to delete. Sorry Dechs.
Blasters. I want to like em, I love the idea of them, I just can't get one past 35.
Emps. Played one during i0. Guy I duoed with at the time was an ma/regen. He got IH and said I wasnt needed anymore. Haven't played a toon that couldn't solo a hazard zone spawn since. -
Quote:I don't want to disuade you from any particular powerset, but with willpower, you will need to actually work to keep aggro. Now maybe spines will actually help with that, but imo, willpower wouldn't be much better than fire/dark/or electric for maintaining aggro. The taunt duration is just too short. So after readin some guides spine/wp I thinks a good route to take. Stuck on takin spine because always wanted one but pre skill changin options didnt like look of old set. wp I have never played but was thinkin of making a wp tank one day so a chance to learn it in a controled area.
-
Back when I used SO's, it wouldn't matter when I were to choose my origin, I would always be mutant. I already had the SO names figured out, why learn another set?
Maybe if it meant more in game beside your first contact, a underpowered origin power(truth be told, I was an established mutant long before the powers were added), and what zone you got your lvl 30-35 SO's in I would've cared more. Origins are possibly my biggest disappointment in the game with an underused feature that could have had way more potential. -
Quote:No, they wont. The scrapper will pump out so much damage, so fast, that the mobs will immediately run. If it is an ambush farm, they will come back eventually, but there is still some chasing involved. If you want to have a scrapper with a taunt aura, a fire/shield does pretty well, after it has some investment in IOes, a spines/invuln wouldnt be so bad either. Neither will touch a ss/fire brute though.Doin my best typin with a smashed screen on my iphone...
As for /fire I know the scater is something I need to take into account. Would elec or darl cause it less.
A lot of folks will make fun of your grammar. I link this because it amuses me, not to poke fun. -

Keep your toons, delete hers, give her the dog/cat.
