Dont get me wrong Local_Man, as I accede you have superior knowledge of illusion, and most likely of poison as well. That said with the pairing of these sets, I would hope there would be more than enough control available to keep the mobs inside the rain. 2 pbaoe holds should more than handle anything boss level and under, and then you have 2 quick firing single target holds to grab anything missed by the pbaoe's. I'd figure you would want to be using them anyway to keep the mobs placed for venemous gasses. Maybe I am wrong, but that is most likely how I would play it.

Also, looking at it again, I would get another slot in PT and slot the lockdown proc in it.

Imo, defence looks fine if you are planing on poping two small purples to cap you. Otherwise, I would build for more(Not that big a worry with perma PA mind you.). I would also slot weaken with cloud senses for the recharge over siphon insight for acc.
  3. Switched in some purple sets, and most of the panacea set. Pretty expensive build now, but build is at 141% recharge before hasten. Also slotted a winters gift in so you have resistance to recharge debuffs, which perma pa will appreciate. Oh, and if losing recall friend is a deal breaker, sorry.

Conversely, to keep everything as it is and keep the cost down get your spiritual alpha slotted.

Its an interesting combination. Will freaking wreck av's and probably gm's.

  7. I love the doom and gloom about pay to win in this thread. Quite refreshing after reading a thread where the op is specifically asking what he can purchase to improve the power of his toons, and the majority are replying with rocket board or extra enhancement slots. Pay to win indeed.

And really, someone purchasing purple recipes with real cash does not threaten my epeen at all.

    I can fly!

I used to dream I could fly. I still do, but I used to too.

Mine are always dreams of falling a great distance, and slowly coming to the conclusion that I am not going to hit ground, so start trying to control the fall(Thats kinda like flying right? Throwing yourself at the ground and missing?). Funny thing is, I have never parachuted, but that is exactly what I imagine a freefall with a glider suit to be like.

I also get dreams where I am drowning only to realise I can actually breathe, and end up chilling out swimming and exploring. Merman Dad. I'm a Merman!
  9. It was stated as a subjective contest in the second sentence. I may recommend that next time you ask everyone to pm you the build Op. Less chance of buthurt when you pick a build subjectively.

  12. Most of my experience is with traps, so if I erred on reslotting any of the dp powers, take that into consideration. I tried to leave as much of the feel of the build as possible, while improving the effectiveness of your traps. You will notice the numbers are pretty high on sm/l and e. However, a single small purple will softcap you to all types and positions.

TomG is correct, hovertrapping is a pita. Of course, if you are used to it, and like it, concept trumps all.

I am not a dom expert either. Psi is a popular choice because drain psyche(I think) gives incredible survivability. Also, most farming doms I have run across swear by /ice for hoarfrost and sleet.

  17. I second the dark/dp defender combo. Kin and colds are pretty uber, but with a smudge just under -40% dmg aoe with darkest night running, dark is more reliable for my purposes.
  18. I would just like to second(or third, fourth) the request to add/sticky the different ATs to this sub forum. I might even recommend adding the AT's primary sets as a subforum to the ATs.

There are way too many build possibilities. I doubt I will ever get past the third or fourth page.

Also, Is there a way to go back and change the title of a thread? I mean, what if there comes a time where I am not actually interested in any more feedback? What if with the help of my peers the build has achieved perfection? The tittle would be there, mocking people, because they couldn't infact make any constructive feedback?

While we are fixing up the forums, any way we can fix it so I stay logged in? Or because free players arn't as invested in actually going through the log in rigmarole, is the forum logout bug now just being called a security feature? "oh, SD didnt log out before he shut down his browser... lets do it for him!"

*Not actually blaming free players for anything. The bug existed long before I knew there were going to be free players.*

    Ta.
The affected mobs get the regular old -resist debuff aura(red shield with down arrows) like if you get debuffed by a sonic if I recall correctly.

Considering with just envenom and venomous gas gives you just about -50% there will likely be multiple mobs in the spawn at -70%, but they will be pretty random.

Wiki lists -resistance floor at -300%. I am not sure if that counts as debuff cap though.
  20. Fire/traps corruptor. All the things you do to support the team work just as well if solo.

In that situation, being able to avoid *anything* is better than getting hit from everything and then resisting the damage. Its specifically in the end game that defense becomes much more preeminent than resistance. Outside of it, its much more balanced: defense avoids debuffs, but defense itself can be much more easily removed.

In fact, its specifically because the devs have always had the ace in the hole that they haven't been as bothered by giving out lots of defense, in power pools, in invention bonuses, etc. The devs wield two trivial ways to nullify high defense: defense debuffs which work on almost everyone, and tohit buffs which work on everyone. Keep in mind that the primary way to punch through resistance is to increase damage, and that doesn't just offset high resistance, it kills everyone else. The alternative is something the players often find far more "cheating" than tohit buffs: unresistable damage.
First, I just want to say thank you for the in depth explanation. It is exactly what I was looking for. A follow up question though. In the end game, where all the debuffs are flying around at saturation levels, and defence ekes out ahead, would it not be possible to increase the availability of resistance bonuses without kicking balance in the teeth and at least make resistance a viable option?(Perhaps with bonuses that don't examp down past 45, much like the incarnate abilities)

It makes sense that increasing damage could be a bad thing, and while there is the two shot rule, squishies probably don't want to be two shotted by average minions. Is leveraging -resists a worse option because resist debuffs are in fact resisted by resists?(I dont know how it works, I have just heard that it indeed does) How is that different than softcapped defence avoiding defence debuffs 95% of the time? Is part of the issue that say you have no defence(regen scrapper) you can basically laugh at defence debuffs, but with resistance debuffs, if you have no resistance, getting debuffed means the mobs will be hitting you far harder?

    Quote:
So why can't powerboost buff your smashing resistance? Well, the only way to do that would be to buff your character's Smashing Strength, and that would also buff your Smashing damage - Power Boost would simultaneously be Build Up. In fact, *all* powers that boost "damage" are intrinsically *trying* to boost your resistances as well: they are the same effect. So to make sure that all damage buffs aren't simultaneously resistance buffs the devs at the beginning of time set all resistance powers to ignore all buffs except those slotted into them. As a result, resistance powers can't be buffed by Power Boost even if the devs wanted Power Boost to do that: the resistance powers themselves are designed to ignore that.

This doesn't affect defense because defense has nothing to do with damage. What we call "smashing defense" doesn't have anything to do with smashing damage at all: its actually something called "smashing_attack" defense, a totally different thing with a similar name. These are what we call "attack vectors" and every attack is tagged with them. To put it simply, if a power deals smashing typed damage, its obvious dealing smashing typed damage. But if a power deals smashing typed damage, that has nothing to do with what defense works on it. If, and only if, the devs have tagged the power "smashing_attack" will smashing defense work on it. If they don't, it won't.

Defense and Resistance are based on totally different mechanisms that have nothing to do with each other. But Resistance is linked to Damage, and that's why it has entanglements with how Damage works. Defense is totally unrelated to damage.
Understood. Again, not the way I would have designed it standing here 7 years later, but since hindsight is 20/20, and I have no idea how to do it better, I will just accept it for what it is.

    Again, Thanks Arcana.

Not bad for 3 slots each.
