    Fixing PvP?

Even though I don't Pvp, I don't agree with destroying an aspect of the game that a subset of the player base enjoys.

Your suggestion is not tearing off a band aid, it is amputation.
  2. There is. When selecting the io to slot into the power in the enhancement selection screen, hover over the io in question, and I believe use the + or - Keys to adjust.

At one time it was useful as a workaround for a bug. It reset your alpha level shift after you died in a trial

I dunno I don't see why it shouldn't be player level based. As a civilian, I'd be more inspired by a big time hero basically ***** slapping a spawn into oblivion than some upstart who has trouble with them.

I wouldn't argue for a guaranteed lg skittle for every defeat, but maybe have it give a chance for a large one to drop at 50. 30 to 49 could have the medium skittles open up.

I dont think using someone with more influence than time for an example should be used as an argument against. In the end though, who cares? The prices would drop(not that anyone is required to pay that much), and making billions off of large inspiration sales sounds more tedious than it is worth to me.

To play devils advocate though, one could argue that the game is already too easy, and farming grey spawns for inspirations is completely unnecessary.

    I would probably agree.
  5. Interesting zone events get people out of instances. A 10 infl will do nothing to curb inflation in the game. Refusing to defeat mobs is the best way to curb inflation in my experience.

I wonder how many folks would use an option to turn infl. Off if you could get double xp, or even +.50xp.
  6. Often the npc you save gives you a bit of influence. Once in a blue moon I will run through atlas and "collect" an entourage of people wanting to thank me(mind, its more for the amusement of having 20 civilians desperate to say thanks before they can despawn than any influence they may or may not give).

I believe the amount is even zone dependant. If I remember correctly, places like founders falls civilians give more influence because it is a richer part of paragon.

Mind you it is about 7.5 years since I paid attention to anything the civilians give me, so that might be incorrect.

I would rather they give an random inspiration drop than influence anyway.
  7. I usually plan their location to be under the mobs nose. The leaving one open to attack... Does that translate into a defence debuff? If so not interested. Change the tohit buff to a +dmg because the spawn is walking into a ambush(even if technically they didn't walk anywhere)? I have enough tohit frankly.

Maybe better as a devices power, traps is already pretty über.
  8. Why are you not playing a Fire/Traps Corruptor?

Mob spread dictates that my melee toons need to move in order to leverage my aoe's. Against a hard target on teams, my scrappers still hop around trying to stay behind the target to avoid incoming cones. My tanks manouver the mob into a position so the team is at their back.

There is no need to worry about hopping around and not hitting your target, as your target is locked until it dies, or you switch the target. If we actually had to aim, I may concede the point.

  11. I am not serious enough about my playtime to quit over something minor. If ED and the various nerfs over the years(balanced of course by oh so many buffs) a minor thing like a changed costume part will most likely go completely unnoticed by me. I have no plans to ever delete the coh folder from my computer.

Agreed. 4 years of planning his revenge, and this is the best he can come up with? Doubtfull.

This is more plausible for a wide variety of reasons, such as the fact that Positron does not govern the game by personal fiat and the fact that we actually have no reason to assume he runs his team with the attitude of a five year old. In most circumstances people wouldn't even suggest that as it is incredibly insulting, but welcome to the City of Heroes forums.
Getting players out of his shadow, while leaving them something to aspire to makes sense.

Killing him and then scrubbing him from the story of thousands of toons doesn't.
  14. Add me to the don't understand why he needs to be scrubbed from the game list.

I was all for killing him off, but this is asinine.

If you like the competition, and like the gameplay as it exist[ed], would you really let some anonymous child's mean words discourage you from experiencing it? I really doubt it. I think it's far more likely that there are other factors stopping someone who professes such an explanation from engaging in PvP -- dislike of competition, dislike of fast gameplay, dislike of the adrenalin, dislike how of ineffective preferred character/powerset is, or post-I13 dislike of how everything is completely different from the rest of the game.

I think the population of players who PvP is used as a whipping-boy in these kinds of posts, and I have to think it's at least partially disingenuous. If you like PvP, you just do it. If you're a legitimate edge-case, and like everything about CoH PvP enough to actually play it but for the anonymous words of children, then everything I'm saying is wrong about you. But blaming the people who PvP seems like kind of an easy and tempting excuse that I suspect is used more widely than is legitimately warranted.
I don't know about you, but none of the posters here citing toxicity as a reason they don't pvp strike me as the type to otherwise be hardcore pvpers. They strike me as being possibly on the cusp of perhaps maybe being interested, but would rather not deal with the drama, so part of their first impression of the "community" is language broadcasted in the zone that is absolutely not tolerated anywhere else in the game, or in life. At least not the circles I run in.

Mayhaps for some, that is enough for them to turn around and exit the zone feeling as though there is absolutely no loss to them whatsoever. I don't think they are that interested in pvp, and whatever smidgen of interest they may have had was smothered instantly. They don't care. And a few of the ones that should care, the ones that may be interested in actually growing the community are calling these people idiots. Hollow indeed.

Again, like I said. I'm not dicounting peoples experiences. I know all too well the toxic nature of broadcast PvP. However, citing it as a significant reason to avoid PvP when it is arguably the one thing we the players have direct control over (unlike say the way powers work, AT's functions, IO's influence builds, etc) and then refusing to ignore the control we are given via /gignore is just silly (which sounds nicer than idiotic I suppose).

It'd be like some one prank calling you, and you *still* sitting on the phone listening to it saying "Awww shucks, this fella is really mean and won't let me alone." Unlike a prank call? When you /gignore, the person can't call you back.
It seems like you are arguing against what you are recommending. People here are absolutely taking direct control over the situation by removing themselves from the situation entirely. They aren't complaining about removing themselves as I don't hear people lamenting that they would Pvp otherwise, they are just giving a reason why they don't.

I can understand the phone metaphor if you are saying that once they hang up, they refuse to use the phone again, but then again I wonder how many people screen their calls.

Just using your analogy, not accusing you of anything. Am arguing against the mindset of "ignore it" it shouldn't need to be ignored, it shouldn't be tolerated.

As to the rest of your post, I haven't seen anyone say ALL pvpers XXXXX And the one time it came close, they were moderated/corrected by their peers pretty quickly.
  18. Just a heads up Sam, my character creation process is nothing like yours. Generally, I pick the power sets I want to play first, and then build up a story around them(if I bother with a story at all)

Just before incarnates hit, I wanted to give a fire/traps corr a go, specifically to run incarnate content. Considering up to then, all my ranged toons withered and died usually before I could even get to SO levels, it was kind of out of my comfort zone. I knew however, that it was a potent combination, and I was pretty sure I would be able to handle most things the game could throw at me, I was confident I would be able to deal with most of the yet unreleased incarnate content even if it was expected to be more challenging.

At the time, as I understood it, most incarnates were influenced largely by Greek mythos so I googled a bit and reacquainted myself with Greek mythology.

Specifically the Moirae. The gods don't even **** with the fates. So Atropos promptly rolled up, and she has never disappointed. It was not a far stretch for me to be able to justify using modern day devices to assist in cutting the thread of life of modern day gods. Fire is fire. It never needs to be justified. I don't think of her as a Mary Sue though.

As for power set selections, I don't have much for you as I would still recommend a corruptor even though you specifically asked people not to.

Right, and how many professional player teams show up in T-Ball diamonds and not just beat the kids horribly, but at the same time, have a few of the pro players berate and belittle them with insults. Very sporting. Way to foster future ball players.

By that logic, if I were to go on a bile soaked racist tirade in broadcast in atlas, it should be okay because everyone can close their tabs, and the ones that don't are idiots. Right.

Trash talk is one thing, the crap I have seen spewn in Pvp zones is not trash talk.
  22. I have a passing interest in it. There are several reasons why it is a passing interest.

I am not interested in rolling up a toon that I would otherwise have no interest in playing in order to fit into one of few perceived viable Pvp play sets. I am not interested in leveling this very specific toon up, and then investing several billion influence in IO sets. I am also not interested in chasing down every single required accolade just to be considered a viable toon. Mind you this is before I have actually discovered if I am indeed interested in Pvp or not.

Not at all unlike buying every single beiber related paraphernalia before I even figure out if I like him or not. The best part is, I have a pretty strong feeling that I won't have much interest in him after all.

It's no wonder why some of these players search out and use every possible exploit, I can't really blame them. I may not condone it, but I am not going to spit on them either.

Let's assume I have done all this, and have decided to finally jump in and start pvping, the small, yet very vocal players spewing bigoted, sexist, elitist crap at people is enough to make me say **** that ****. Turn off broadcast you say? No. Moderate yourselves I say. If It is not condoned in any other part of the game, it shouldn't be allowed in a Pvp zone.

However, let's assume that for some reason, my broadcast is broken, and I don't see any of that garbage at all, and I join a Pvp team, because fiteclubbing is for wankers, not only do I suck, but I bring the team down with me. I am shamed, and I quit in disgust after being ganked for the thousandth time, realizing it was all just a big waste of time.

How am I going to get better if I don't do it? Good question. I don't think repeatedly getting creamed by professionals in a pool tourney is the best way to learn how to shoot pool either. Especially when they are screaming at you and asking why you are wasting their time with your down syndrome skill set.

So for now, I am happy to keep it as a passing interest.
