    All hail Global

Poeple usually know me to be the olympic gold medalist in the fine art of moaning, so I'm gonna surprise you today. With all the talk about a new US/EU merged forum, I'd like to say a few words about something that makes this game stand out.

Yes, I'm talking about the "Global" chat system. Let's start by pointing out a few things:

    1. Do you remember? The Global is actually rather "new" to the game. It had a very shaky start and some people even had the audacity to suggest they'd remove it. For some reason it still has a tendency to crash with new issues, but most of us today take it for granted as if it's always been there.

    2. It's still surprisingly unusual with global chats in MMOs it seems. We truly are blessed, since - dare I say - it changed the game and is now one of the defining features. Without it I couldn't possibly easily run 3 ITF's a day as I did a few months ago. It's so important for the community it's almost scary. Would you remain in the game if they removed it?

    3. It really works. While our interface must be one of the ugliest ever in games, it really, really works. I still think it's a bit of a hassle setting MOTD's, searching for channels etc, but with 4 windows that can be split and with tabs that'll last forever not only chatting with chaps on the stinky server is easy. Joining teams, finding people, sidekicking etc. It's all so easy compared to many other games.

True, you might argue that most on Defiant just hang's out on #Defiant Events, so a "server global" channel would be enough, or you might say people now spend too much time chatting, not enough "defeating" ...stuff... but personally I think we should all celebrate the Global once a year because (censored huge load of profanities) it's awesome.

With more and more stuff going "global" it just makes more and more sense. True, I don't like the merger of heroes/villains, but it is happening. We've seen more and more coop stuff, market's sort of global, the MA's definitely global and there's been talk about this instance-mission-heavy game going server-wide (ppl being able to be in same teams, but on different servers, joining forces inside the missions - another bad move imho, since I'd rather see more in-zone action/missions), so...

All hail the Global, bow before it's awesomeness!
  2. well, you could just have a scalable system for the models and textures, no point having two clients.
  3. I think I'll stick to an unusually short post:

    Yay!
  4. May I also point out a gfx update doesn't necessarily mean you need more power, a gfx overhaul might leave you needing LESS power in fact, since the engine might run much smoother than the old beast we have and it still might look better.

It gets sort of funny when I (occationally) "lag" out in grandville at times, but not in the most demanding sequences in the most demanding games on the market at the moment.

That's not down to this being an MMO, Grandville being a huge zone or anything like that, it's just an old engine trying to do something it wasn't designed for. ITF Lag hill, nukes freezing the screen, missing/black textures etc, a gfx overhaul is long overdue imho and I'll stick to that!
  5. Only real hero I really liked (ok, I was a bit of a spier/superman fanboy, but) was Miss Hulk, and we only got 3 issues of that one in Sweden. She had a really nice set of... uhm...eh... well... clothes... erhm.. yeah... clothes...

  6. Oh, just got a very good GR question in there:
Will a "reformed" villain be able to pick a hero ancil. pool instead of the patrons? That would make for some interesting choises for an "unbeatable" team.

That reminds me, still haven't respecced ANY alt since they updated the patron powers and gave us some more choises. lol
  7. I guess I have to venture in on the Gxf issue as well..
For me, I've been waiting for SOME gfx update pretty much since CoV gave us some minor updates. Those updates did refresh the game a lot imho, but any time I stand near the shop in Grandville I go nuts about the sad "shadows" that spin around when I change PoV.

While some people whine about the "badness" of a gfx update I definitely side with the "This game DESPERATELY need one" folks.

That been said: I'd give anything for more actual content as in new maps, mobs, story arcs and most of all Strike forces.

With the MA pretty much dead in the water again (although I got a new author badge today, wow) and me definitely dead tired of it, and folks still grinding it, sending out blinds when you're close to the building, content is King.

and let's face it: even with all the "Issues" this game still has VERY little story content compared to most MMOs. Not that you can really judge a game by it, but just take a look at the small impact on your poor hd. It's silly!

Well, you know you want to, so try floggin' me then...
  8. Well, a few kin corrs do HUGE DPS coupled with any other high damage toon.

4 fire or ice kin corrs with
4 stone armour foot stomping fulcrum shifted speed boosted monsters(=brutes) are rather awesome at killing both big mobs of minions as well as any AV or even any GROUP of AVs.

Actually, at lvl 50 you could have 8 ice/kin corrs pretty much nuking anything... 8 (well 7+siphon speed+hasten) sets of speed boosts will keep them nuking even AVs. Let them cheat by eating some blue's and it's rather silly to watch. Not a farmer's choise though since they're rather high maintenance!
  9. Yeah, took the boat out to an island, forgot the time a bit, and the weather got rather bad, so took way longer than expected to get back home. Summer, the destroyer of theme-teams!

Cya all on sunday though... I hope!

Oh... And I got my HTC Magic, android powered phone today. It's awesome!!!
  10. I'd say 8 fire/rad trollers DO go a long way since you pick leadership pool on them all, but sure, a stone armour tanker is nice to have around for any alpha attack anyway.

..but really any 8 ppl used to playing together playing the alts they like, that they've buffed up will take on anything in the game as it is at the moment. Yeah, sure for "Master of..." runs you might have a few specific builds with you but for the rest I stand by my statement above!

...also; I love my new Android phone! (HTC Magic). I HAD to say that!
  11. I'm free for 2 months, so the only thing that might stop me is real life(tm) in general. BBQ, women etc.
So... Short version: Any day might be good for me and any day might be impossible!
  12. Seems like I'm gonna be busy this evening - again - darn summer. If the rest is on, feel free to play, I should be able to catch up easily enough and should be here tomorrow.

To be honest, with this bad hang over, I had completely forgotten it's sunday. Ah, vacation does weird things, Time is now once again a very strange concept to me.
  13. Um, well, at least chat channels would be "extractable" through a third party program, since herostats already do that, but the mission text might be harder. I'd rather have some proper pre-rendered cut-scenes with voice overs.

    Would you?

    [ QUOTE ]
No one's forcing you to play, are they?

    [/ QUOTE ]

    Um, actually, yes they are!
When London's on a quest for... whatever... nothing will stop him from draggin' his swedish moaning viking (and the rest of the smurf posse) out of bed, forcing them to do horrible stuff like hero side shadow shard TFs and stuff. My poor PA b05n14n5 had to work over time.

You KNOW I'd never go blueside by free will. Atlas Park is way too scary for me. (Notice there's no smiley after that, seriously, AP is really, really scary)
  15. It's funny how people choose to quote parts of messages totally ignoring whatever don't fit'em.

As I said, I might be jumpin' the gun, and I sure hope so. The good news of course is that they keep revamping the game engine doing things they said would never ever be done, so we might actually end up with a game that doesn't look 7 years old.

...but I'm still rather worried that GR will be the "content" (=story) patch and I16 will be another tech upgrade. ...and mostly I'm worried that GR will actually be rather content-less compared to other MMO expansions. Anything less than at least = the current villain content would be pitiful.

and btw: 3rd day in a row hang over, yet I'm still happy since I've stayed away from the game all that time! But I'll swap the beer for some PIE from now on methink!
  16. Ok, seriously disturbing.
We already know the content of I15 and it's... thin...

Now it MIGHT be that I16 is power customzation, ergo another extremely thin expansion. While it's nice they revamp the game engine to "modern" standards (still no gfx update it seems though) and we're getting GR this - to me - is very troublesome. Seems like another pointless stab at the competition.

Let's just hope I'm jumpin' the gun here, or that SW:TOR is released faster than anyone expected!
  17. SingStar

    Would you?

Oh, loads of people claiming they wouldn't! How fun! I'm hardly impressed, since I've seen a few do... things...

I on the other hand have no problem admitting it would be fun to try on a lvl 50 stalker and some other builds I'd normally never ever bother to get that far, not to mention I'd love to try on a perma-dom (another thing I can't be asked wasting time and inf on) etc, so yea, I'd deffo use any and all trickery to do that if it's not too boring.

I did try in the Rikti's and was bored beyond beliefe after a single run. If it had stayed in, yes I would've used it more to get some levels on alts described above. As an example, I'm still playing my two MMs that are xp pacted to two dominators, since I'd never ever be able to stand levelling a dominator to 50 although I do find them fun in a nerfed-troller way in teams.

I refuse to take the holier-than-whatever pledge since I've been there, done that. There's nothing new or surprising in store for me anywhere in the game no matter what set/powers I choose, there's no pleasure in levelling alts for me anymore. What's fun is playing eight man teams with my well equipped 50's and since noone's hurt if I cheat I see no moral or ethical dilemma in cheating. The only thing that really stoppes me is the boredom. Cheating may be faster, but it's still boring.

On the other hand, I like the 2 days/week I level up my fire/kin corr in a "regular" way although I wouldn't be sad if I had skipped the first 22 levels.

Then of course, I'm one of thoose just hanging around for the chatterboxes, old friends etc while waiting for a better game that I still haven't found, reluctant to let go of the alts I've wasted way too much time on. It used to be I was trying to find excuses to play the game, but lately I've noticed I'm finding excuses NOT to play the game.

...so if I found a great cheat, I'd use it, and if I was caught and severaly punished I might actually end up thanking that GM for making me leave the game and "get a life(tm)".

...I guess I just might've turned this thread into another epic, flamin' weekend thread?
  18. Never got that part with illusions or BP... I hardly play heroes, but there's plenty of easy ways to get them as long as you get a team together.

Had a carnie mish that I kept until lvl 50, and got some people easily to grind it, then they asked if they could be replaced by some others. It ended with my alt stuck in the mission for 8 hours while people kept inviting new people grinding the badge over and over again.

Apparently at least 60 ppl/alts got that badge that day and at least I got to work a tiny bit on my healer badge. Shortly thereafter I just stopped caring about my hero alts all together! Didn't even bother to IO/Set up my 50s.

Since then I've only made one hero, a fire/rad troller and apparently those two badges are still as easy to get.

So really, the last inf badge and possibly the last vet badge is impressive, but in a slightly sad way. The rest are just sad in a sad way and I personally sort of regret sacrificing all that time, inf and electricity (= real money) to get all those redside badges.
  19. Well, now you've made me unsure...
If the game doesn't update through steam, there's no point getting it through steam really. The point would be to get the update and get it applied by just leaving the computer on 24/7 near Issue releases!
  20. Agree, some events are not server specific, and even then they might not be red or blueside specific.

Posting on both defiant heroes AND defiant villains is a bit silly, and same goes for if you want to start off a themed group or something. Posting in general seems wrong for that.
  21. The 6th debt badge? That's easy...
Come to think of it, I *might* go "woooh" if I see anyone with the last inf badge, not because I'm impressed though...

...just think of it, someone would've played one and the same alt for so much, for so long, griiiinding inf. That would be sort of sad really...

  22. I don't really think there's ANY badge villain side that makes me go WOOOhhh.

Master of.... Loads have it after joining a team that did everything for them, but it does go to show that you know the game and have enough friends/haven't (censored) someone off.

Weatherman is still a pain, but even if I hae it on several alts, I sort of more go... jeeez, is he stupid or what?

Invention badges pretty much same thing, but it goes to show dedication when you waste that much inf on badges.

Apart from that I think it's the veteran's, general high badge count, the rikti stuff accolade, some of the event badges (gold medal ski races takes some skill and a bunch of kins), but really...

    ...what's the point anymore?
  23. City of Heroes Architect Edition - 25% - 11,99 euro

There's also some other MMOs even cheaper, but let's try to ignore that, will you?

Edit: I guess this is a fairly acceptable price to get steam to update the game instead if the crappy game updater.
  24. SingStar

    Is this farming?

Farming also means more drops and with more inf you sell those drops cheaper, so there's not such a big impact on the market as you claim, while they CAN buy YOUR recipes for a rediculous price. The more stuff on the market, the better for everyone.

The big problem is a lot of people got a lot of inf way before ED, market etc entered the game and that still shows, and the fact villains don't make quite enough merits (= recipes that can be sold) etc. I'm not telling you to go grind a farm, but if people wanna do it, let them because they're more likely good for the game than bad.
  25. Even if you're a full team, it used to be 2, max 4 bosses/mission, so it takes a lot of resetting. In that sense I guess this is the only real "accomplishment" there really is!

Good luck with it... Done it on a weee bit too many alts to ever EVER bother again!
