If you can kill it then fight it. Mathematics do not need to involved in a game thats designed to be fun. Some people may think that they get more exp for fighting higher lvls, and in some cases they're right. I've been in a few teams that have cut through +3s at the nearly the same rate as same lvl/+1s. If its not the case of they're actually getting more exp, then leave them to it. They are still having fun doing what they want to do at the end of the day.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is what we eventualy did, left the team and went for our own mobs and settings.
Due my very unregular playtimes, i rely alot on 'whats available' at that time (often late/midnight). Some mobs are easier on red/purple, others i just dont wanna see (longbow, tsu, some degree council). But i fail to see the 'fun' in nonstop death, debt and spamming 500 powers on 1 mob to get it down (lol @ WoW). -
The past few days i noticed whenever (if im lucky
) i get in a PuG, the more purple mobs they see the happier.
Are we doing 'easy mode' on yellow/orange the first start to whine its 'too slow/easy'. Eventualy we end up with basicly red/purple/purple mobs, taking 5 minutes to take down a purple boss and death is pretty much the case every group of mobs we encounter.
So whats this about? I rather slice 'n dice through easier mobs and gain alot on mission bonus/no deaths, then doing 1 hour on 1 stupid purple mission and eventualy end up not even having half of the exp i would have gotten if i would do my own solo missions.
Specialy my MM has serious issues on this, purple meanse 1hit-wonders, AoE means all pets gone. At lvl50 i could understand wacking +3's, mostly since you are 'uber slotted'. But we're talking lvl20-38 here, not often the easiest lvls around.
Now i was lucky few times that others in the team were fed up also, so we left and made our own 3 party doing yellow/orange/reds, easier, safer and eventualy more exp.
So, whats up with this 'Purple is better'? -
Mercs been on the 'suggest' list more then once, basicly every run they are party of it
There is too much to be fixed on mercs, my simple advice.. leave em be and pick a set that does work. -
And ofcourse.. forum wont load again.
-
I would pick mace over axe, mace got a nice looking 'thor hammer' style. Downside.. mace got crappy sounds (the squish sounds). (my WP/mace is 'thor alike').
Axe is great for the looks, few of them look pwetty nice.
I think both you can make up some nice style outfit.
Fire, if you want fire sword only, you have 3 powers to your disposal. Little synergy with shields, it just do damage.
Ice, migation, lovely. But imho bit over the top, while lacking somewhat damage.
SS, lovely set (dispite rage -def crash), great damage and can suit a shield only superhero. (how did they do the 2h smash btw?)
Any i forgot? Or did stone also got shield? -

I've never understood the need for a walk animation (other than for RP) superheroes aren't known for just wandering round the park it seems more innkeeping to have them rushing about.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is the RP of the RPG partThe more 'features' you can build in, the more people you can 'reach'. Whats the use of full dancing animations or sitting on static benches around the power? Same story, a part of the community likes this.
Kinda like dance emote, the emotions, walking ability, 'cute factor' items or any form of 'unneeded' animation. It's all being optional, so you can get your game to a larger group of people.
Why put firewire on a motherboard, since 80% dont use it? So the remaining 20% can also consider buying this board. Same story :P
Why do roughly 25 million people play a 2D MMO? Seriously not for the 'awsome uber 2d graphics'. Or like cabal, scenery is ugly, mobs look rather ugly.. even characters dont look that superb. But the skills, that is what makes people play it -

Graphical improvements aren't a player luxury, they are a game necessity.
The zones have got to compete graphically with Millennium City and Metropolis in their respective forthcoming MMOs because unfortunately eye-candy does count for a lot and trial players (ignorant of the potential great gameplay) are just going to turn their nose up at the graphics (and game) the moment they notice every fifth or sixth building or skyscraper is pretty much Identical, or the repetition of art resources and maps in-game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Several MMO's already showed, graphics wont make the game if the gameplay is [censored]. Lonely at nr. 1 being AoC, wich was said having the best graphics in a MMO ever seen.
I agree, a sweet overhauling to make the scenery more 'alive' would help, but at the end when the fight starts CoH vs CO vs DCO, gameplay will be key.
Besides, NC got Aion -
Once chosen your primairy and secondairy sets, you cannot change them anymore. You're stuck with en/fire.
Is that bad? True, there are better sets out there that do better or more damaging, but my EN/Ice was 1 of my most fun toons i've lvled to 50 so far.
You can combine melee PBAoE for teams (and tanker has full agro), along with the full set of energy for some nice damage. For solo, energy torrent is your bread and butter. It keeps mobs down and down = no dmg to you. Use burn for anti-melee counters (it fears the mob).
For 3:
While you been away they normalised all tier 1 and 2 powers, making them all cast at the same speed. For energy? Tier 1/2 became lovely fast to spam.
Also, old defiance (lower hp = more dmg) is gone. New defiance gives a certain dmg-boost per power activated, with a easy spam this can easily go up to 40-50% damage boost.
I'll look up my nrg/ice build, perhaps you can use the same but replace ice with fire powers. -
Me hopes he was refering to animations and graphics.
Zone-graphics or missions graphics are shown being not that super important, your character and his powers are the only things you are looking at for about 99% of the time. Although the builds might need a update here and there
Me think, better graphics on the powers. More bling bling, more lightshows and ugly granite style
(Even guildwars, when they released eotn, such outdated engine got me jaw-dropped for about 10 minutes the first time i walked out on the fresh snow of the mountains - so it is possible). -

Recently Tabula Rasa shut down and the players were, IIRC, given game time for any of NCNC's other online games. A similar thing happened at Memo' this year, with masses of CoV collectors edition's being handed out. Now, how many of the people who thought they'd give CoX a try do you really think are gonna stick around if all they heard are cries of doom and failure? The Tabula Rasa crowd are far from likely to hang around waiting for another game to close from under them so they'd head off, I know I would in their shoes after reading some of the tripe that seems to make up the bulk of the doom posts.
[/ QUOTE ]
From several i spoke in TR, many are waiting for the beta-acces of Aion. (all payed subs got beta acces and 1 month free-play in Aion, along with LA2 and COH time). When i did mention CoH, they made a fair point.
The game lacks QoL features. Traveling longer then actualy doing a mission is basicly retarted, crosszone teleporting is kinda impossible. The ammount of 'repetative' missions is beyond 'infinitive', Tabula did beat CoH on that point. -
Its rather lame imho. Not only the costume, but more the mission teleporter.
Added, the client always been a 'free download', so basicly you can download the mac client and play with your own account right? So why make it mac-only for now? -
Assumable there are quite alot of pacts created since launch, so maybe the statserver has some extra work to do to keep all pacts equal.
I have created 2 pacts, 1 with 2 lvls 1's and another between a lvl1 and a lvl5. both seem to work normaly, slight delay in exp reward.
The only minor problem is the rested experience, since my lvl5 wasnt getting any exp (it went to the lvl1), my 'patrol exp' did lower. But i gues this is by design.
(great thing about pacts + patrol, when the other is offline, you still gain 100% exp, heaven for any altoholic.) -
1 of my toons currently has 'hacker' patern on skirt/short -> Mini, but now i try to save this outfit, i noticed hacker isnt in the list of paterns anymore.
Same goes for the other skirts, all missing hacker.
Also, dagger (afaik that was the name), the colors are swapped around. normaly first color was background and spikes were second color, it seems the other way around now. -
An undocumented change often refer to a 'positive'or neutral change. Stealth change refers to a undocumented change, yet resulting in a negative gameplay experience.
Pre-travel, not taking the temp powers in account, its a freaking nightmare to travel from 1 place to another, from Hollows to KR or sortlike, the entire team has to wait for you. US has little problems, as each zone is widely populated and rather easy to get a team whitin your zone, such isnt the case in EU servers. 1-0 for City of Solo
I cant, even if i try i would fail, see any reason why changing this system, dispite it might give problems with a few missions (wich may be like 0,1% of all missions?) -
I stick to this point:
I rather see better animations on the current sets, then new additional sets* added. My blaster is master of frost, ice and everything below 0 degree, but it just doesnt feel like it when playing. (and remove the [censored] walk!!!)
(transfer of sets like elec -> tankers excluded).
Kinda like the 'modified' SS set, sure some will remember that movie -

According to the merit guy in atlas and the patch notes yeah any GM drops merits. Though i think its only 1 per GM? Hardly going to be farmed but still a better reward than the old system
[/ QUOTE ]
I wonder this though, how much GM's could you take down with a 5-man team in (lets say) 5-6 hours? Compared to any TF, it might even give more then the TF. -
[ QUOTE ]
Don't forget the game is inspired by comics - it's not a replica of another comic book universe, it's a universe all of its own that's based on comic books, so there's no "rule" saying exactly what kind of powers and weapons we can or can't use
[/ QUOTE ]
Then i want a trashtalk/nipplepincer blaster. -
[ QUOTE ]
But what are those powers we have most of the basic ones already the current "spandex" powers in game cover energy(unspecified, radiation, electrical, negative), fire, ice, gravity, earth, plant manipulation, weather manipulation.
[/ QUOTE ]
Aborption (damage form) or mimicry?
I believe rogue of X-men has this ability originaly.
And offcourse multiply/dupping yourself. (even WoW got this!) -
Imho out of the box SS is quite a hard hitter. Compared to Stone probably lower, yet the endurance usage of Stone is far higher. Added that it has quite some knockdown abilities (footstomp imho is the best AoE of any set)
Each change would affect something, be it for the good or the worse. Many now adepted to the current Rage, then maybe its better to leave it this way rather then changing it again and perhaps hitting another set badly.
Maybe drop the defence debuff a bit, afaik SS is also selectable with Shields, wich would hit it even harder. Maybe back to 15% or such, so you can counter it easier with a purple -
You cant be serious they actualy typed out 'Does Anyone have a wakie?'
Pro-newbs will say 'rez plz' or 'wakie!'. -
Sidenote, i have 5 tanks in total. My main 2 are stone and fire, but i also have inv, WP, ice tankers and a elec brute.
You cant really compare resist and defence the same way though, a purple insp give 25% defence, while a orange one only gives 5%. (if you have to counter it).
Whatever debuff they pick, it will hit 1 set more then the other. (even acc debuff - aura's). Personaly, revert it back to a Build Up. No more issues, no more worries -
[ QUOTE ]
My point is, the rage crash doesn't effect all powersets equally.
[/ QUOTE ]
That is basicly with any power, be it buff, attack or sortlike. Each set it different, each set got pro and con's. Even the end-crash is way easier to compensate by fire, EA or ice then for inv or stone.
Should Fiery Aura, to some peoples minds: lack a decent tier 9 partly for its not giving much of a toot for a rage crash in comparison to the rest?
The effects of being caught out of position:
[ QUOTE ]
Your damage is kaput anyway but being able to control is now also limited.
[/ QUOTE ]
If you choose to be the main tank, it comes with responsibilities. If you know you will have no dmg, you shouldnt use it at all, unless you have no-dmg aura along with taunt (afaik all powers remain working with taunt, so i dont believe it is a issue at all btw).
Each set has problems. Take ice melee and it is survival and [censored] damage (well, used to be). Give it to a fiery aura tanker and it becomes a damage tank.
People still say Granite should become a clicky, they think the penalties are not 'strong' enough. I already showed how rage is way stronger then any other BU power, it has to have a strong penalty to compensate.
Be happy they at least removed the 10sec no attack at all, that was 10 times worse then it currently is.
lets turn it around, what would u suggest the rage crash would be? -

Better? Just because now 2 def.. no atm just 1, set have issues of the defence it should be changed?
[/ QUOTE ]Ice Armor, Invulnerability, Willpower, Energy Aura, Super Reflexes, Stone Armor
[/ QUOTE ]
*looks at forum-section*
Nope, SR en EA not included
Ice and inv have enough backup powers to counter any -defence, inv even having a huge resist as primairy. Stone? Granite, 'nuf said. Besides, i asume popping a purple can counter it also?
Added, Rage should be used with care, same for the tier9 clicky powers (specialy unstoppable). If you play the big team tank, perhaps better just to pop a few red rather then risk the -defence. -
[ QUOTE ]
Already sounds better. IMO all it needs is a sort of "nuke crash" without complete endurance drop. Has to be harsh enough to stop people from attacking though. If you get -100% recovery and -100% +end (they could do this with healing, shouldnt be impossible for +end) most people would stop attacking. In 10 seconds you can easily spend up all your leftover endurance.
Also the immobilization thing sounds good. Needs some developement though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Better? Just because now 2 def.. no atm just 1, set have issues of the defence it should be changed?
I wonder how people do maths, the only thing you should look at is the balance to the other melee sets. They have a 10sec 80% boost with a recharge of 45sec, where rage is perma with the same recharge (100%).
Imho the 10 sec downtime (be happy they at least let u attack to keep agro) is very much worth it. Lets take a simple one:
You can do 100 dmg per 10sec. This result:
100+80%=180*11 = 1980 (11 due 10sec no dmg)
BU based:
180+4,5*100+180+4.5*100+180 = 1440 (start BU, end BU)
500 dmg difference, that equals 50sec of BU-based attack.
Same goes for recharge, def based ice has -recharge resist, it will get hit way less by -recharge powers, thus can keep up rage easier then a resist based who get nonstop -recharge, thus not being able to maintain perma. -

Although it's worth noting that anyone that spends 8 hours/day on any game must be insane.
[/ QUOTE ]
Why would that be?
I could asume playing games and browse the net for 8 hours is 'healther' for your mind then standing 8 hours in a row behind a machine putting matches in a box. Or rather do 8 hours of gaming then doing 8 hours of telemarketing.
'Gaming' isnt differnt from any other activity a person can do, be it 1 hour or be it 8 hours.
(who with a office job is not staring 8 hours a day to his PC screen?)
