Say that to my level 75 Hunter and level 67 Death Knight... hell try playing the game yourself and it would be evident to you that WoW is a single player until you hit the cap with every game mechanic aimed at grouping hideously borked. Try doing 90% of the quests in a small team, a dynamic that works well in CoH, in WoW a)You are grinding in the open so other teams can kill the same mobs, b)Even when you kill the mob the drop rate isn't often 100% and c)Even if it is a 100% drop rate its really unlikely that the drop will drop for every member of the team. I duo a lot in CoH, it does slow the levelling down a bit. In WoW duoing means half XP, that is I get half what I would get in Solo play, which is stupid for a MMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
I did 80 with my hunter in 9 /played days. By then, i did nearly all instances to be done from RFC upto HoL. Few done with the guild, most done with Pug's. Pretty sure you were just on a old server, where the majority is 80 or the lowers are all helped by their guild.
Being in the same world, same mobs, same people gives what an MMO is. All in 1 huge virtual world. Unlike what CoH became, specialy on EU. On US there are sewerhunts, or who can remember the old perez park groups? Fighting between others, interact, not doing your 'own little box' city of solo. And it aint different in any game, ok GW excluded atm (or London for that mather, anyway), it is CoH getting less 'MMOish' rather then others become 'more grindish'.
You can get nice rewards in PvP WoW, gear, exp, mounts etc, good rewards that help your character but also require you to actualy engange into PvP (along with reputation). Only some stupid merits as 'playerkill' reward will only make it worse, yet another farm place outside the majority only go into the pvp zone just to get the nuke or shivan (for their TF farming - irony valore), with NO pvp interaction at all. Face it, this game became too small to make a 60vs60 pvp or sortlike (upto 125vs125 in cabal), WoW aint the best MMO (personaly) out there, but at least they made a easy-step-up PvP enviroment where everyone can or will go dispite their gear, 'slotting' or skill.
Now, imho, at the moment this whole game is about 1 thing only, IO's. 'it is too easy', 'you n00b cant finish? farm IO more', 'lolorz i pwn i solo AV!!' (generalised abit, i know). PvP wont make any difference in this system if you add merit rewards to it. -
Armors or perma granite? (special stone question
)
-
[ QUOTE ]
As SR scrappers have a click mez protection that only takes 2 recharge to make perma I'd think your statement is incorrect.
[/ QUOTE ]
That and Shields are just the 'odd' of the dev. Why make a mezz protector a clicky, while all others have toggles? Afaik the only 2 clickies that are possible perma with only their own slotting, unlike hasten or such. (or boostrange also, not sure).
[ QUOTE ]
Sadly the vast proportion of WoW isn't even an MMO IMO, you are actively discouraged from grouping, both by insanely low drop rates and losing XP in small teams. With no in game mechanic to balance out disparate teams (SK is the best game mechanic I have ever seen). Until you hit what ever the cap is this year and start gearing up its very hard to find a good team most of the time. CoH wins hands down over that IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
We're talking PvP here, personal experience in lvling is not really relevant. WoW wins hands down by far if we're talking about PvP, specialy if you are on a pvp-server. Not only arena/bg but also during your lvling (be it solo or grouped). 90% of the time here you never encounter anyone, since you are in your 'own private map', while in WoW most of the time you are part of the big world.
[ QUOTE ]
Roll back to i12 PvP and promote the use of the merit system (e.g increase the amount of merits for story arcs etc) and I think you will find better balance than this game has had so far. If this happens then its a win for everyone.
[/ QUOTE ]
That would make it even worse. You can 'forced farming', people are 'forced' to go in to a PvP enviroment they really dont like just because there is a cake out there.
Then again, pretty much everything 'rewardfull' is already been put by the devs in the box 'farming'. So the problem lies deeper then plain some balance within PvP to even make this game viable into the future. Ironic many say GW isnt a MMo since you never see others while doing missions, but what is CoH different to that? -
Do a google search on VGA charts (tom's got a decent one). It totaly boils down to your walletsize and the rest of your system. You can buy a state of the art card, but if the rest of the system is still slow, you wont have much use of it anyway. Dont always go blind on the guides, as they often test it with a state of the art computer or on games that are rather high graphics, while perhaps the games you play can work with way lower cards.
For the GTS, a 260 or 4870 will beat the GTS anytime, anywhere. Between these 2 is nearly 2 generations of videocards, so kinda logic.
I wouldnt put the GTS in SLI, same price you can already get a decent 4870 (512 version) or a setin 260, specialy since the prices will drop soon once again (nvidia comming with their new series). And in SLI they still wont perform even close to a single 260 or 4870 (only can get close to a 9800GTX, but not often).
There are some good price-check websites outthere, depending on the rest of your system a 4870 512 is a great card to have (value for bucks), although the 260 might be dropping in price and might become slight more interesting. (these cards go 180-280euro). But again, all depends on the money you have available for it.
(should have been in the tech issues forums btw).

It just doesnt make sence to put 'defensive' support in tier1, mainly considered being cannon fodder. Both thugs as bots have them in tier2 (where ninja/zombie have their huge source of damage), together with the fact tier2 merc perform way too low compared to any other tier2. (def bubble/aura bot/thug, high damage ninja/zombie - those seals do what? stun/hold once in a blue moon, snipe only if they are far and a totaly useless stealth)

How many builds do you know that can solo an AV?
3? ... 4?
The above will make pvp even more boring than it currently is, especially as insps heal percentage of health and the damage numbers don't add up to counteract that.
Fahie
[/ QUOTE ]
AV feeling, not AV 'soloing'. Whats heroic about the fact basicly anyone non-def based can be 1-2 shot by anything, it doesnt really feel you being a superhero isit?
Anyway, Casual pvp will never happen in CoH, not with the current system. By the time they finaly got something to make it interesting for the non-pvp'hardcore', its already that old people moving on anyway. (be it CO, or GW2, or Aion or whatever). -
[ QUOTE ]
So you wand players that have no interest in the PvP style of game play or in the PvP trash talk, to feel that they have to PvP in order to stay competitive in PvE?
They will only increase the hatred that some PvE players already have for PvPers.
I think it is the way WoW do things. With PvE players taking part in PvP zones to get last seasons arena epic gear or something like that. (Never played WoW only read a bit about it)
[/ QUOTE ]
Afaik the new LK expension made a twist on the Season epics, but aside that they made it imho very balanced.
The season armor you needed to fight in arena battles, as 'newbie' you just wouldnt be able to stand there longer then 5 minutes before loosing yet another battle. Arena in GW is kinda the same, totaly different from 'casual' pvp.
But they made a great addition, battlegrounds. True, there are people that whine its a place only to farm stuff, but if you have a solid 30vs30 basin or valley you actualy need to work together pretty damn well. You cant really fly 100ft above them, bu/aim pop insp and drop down to take out 4-5 within seconds (unlike the few team battles i've seen in CoH). Going alone vs 4 players 99% is plain suicide (unlike a nova 4purple blaster).
But thats imho yet another problem, travel powers. In the major pvp of other games, you have a 3rd element of travel. If the group leaves a 'spot' open, they have to travel back. The fastest they can go is by mount, even then it will take a long time. But if you put a CoH character in a Valley, they travel from 1 to another side in less then 10 seconds.
Again, i would like to see devs put down several PvP-arena's with a trashload of temp buffs or debuffs, just to see wich one is 'accepted' by the public.
Cabal fixed the 1shot mather by giving people in TG (the battlemap) roughly 20.000 health (normaly have have 2000ish), this way you can get beaten the [censored] out of you but still fight back. (while duels pretty much are how CoH pvp is atm, 3-4sec max, 90% luck). So just for a test, why not put an arena with characters having 10 times their health? It would be more of a AV-feeling battle, high damage but also high HP to counter many aspects. -

don't say one country law is stupid if you don't look at your own country 1st....british got tons of useless and very very outdated law
[/ QUOTE ]
There is a difference between 'stupid' laws that never got cleaned up, or plain 'in effect' laws such as the patent system. (or the sue system for that mather, we remember the cat in the microwave million sue right?)
Its not the first time, and sure wont be the last, that again the whole patent system failed misserably on such mathers. (specialy tech-related). -

Medic: Those with the Force Field Generator would like heals, those without would like stimms. More of both would be nice. He he.
[/ QUOTE ]
I have aid other and stimulance both heavy with int-IO's. Along with my veteran and few tricks, i replace the freaking medic myself(you need to sacrifice slots if you want to make medic heal more specialy since he get interupted a bit too often, unlike bots wich can be full slotted for support -def/heal/debuff-same partly for the tier2 thugs and afaik the others have no supportive pets).
-
PvP, in my opinion, does not include:
-see something flash by, being 80% HP hit while your oponent is already a 50-80ft away (at least).
-jumping around like crazy in a box that even popcorn would feel ashamed.
-from 1 moment to another standing in a pile of traps, your screen overflood with 'things' and 1 second later you are on the ground looking at the you-died-window.
-Without mez standing held, stunned, feared, whatever for 99% of the battle. (or either dead on the ground).
No, i would have liked they took a peak at their other game, Guildwars, i often just log on to see a battle between 2 big guilds. Or maybe towards other MMOs how they did their PvP.
Mezz imho is the main source of PvP problems. Yes, in pve you can lockdown pretty much everything you see for a infinitive of time, but in PvP people just dont like this. The whole PvE system was never designed to be PvP-able and probably will never be.
What i believe they should have done, made several 'template' arena's. Where certain aspects are disabled, heavily reduced or sortlike. It will give people the chance to experience different ways of PvP in CoH, rather that to stick up 1 kind of style (be it i12 or i13) and probably will never PvP. (good example is the winter event in GW, you get a fixed set of powers, its skills that make the difference - unlike here). -
[ QUOTE ]
US Laws are stupid.
[/ QUOTE ]
I fixed that for you -
Its an oppinion he post, not a 'news'item. Its not that weird they make hints to a possible CoH2, guildwars2 will have sortlike 'move over' abilities for all current GW players.
If it will be Aion engine (afaik just the cry engine), i am not sure. Although it has all the abilities on board to support such a game.
I believe CoH is put at least 3rd, with Aion and GW2 on top, NCkorea also focusing on soul&blade, will there still be place for a CoH2? -
Its a unresistable debuff
Only thing that works is to counter it with movement speeds bonus. (swift and any IO that give such).
-
Fire and dark are not that far from eachother though. They both miss a HP boost power, have no 'panic button' tier 9 and kinda rely on their heal abitily. SL resist they afaik even equality, its the remaining resist that makes a difference.
At the end it totaly depends wich mobs. Heavy SL or elemental, drain abilities or sortlike (get a pack of tsoo mobs, with their kinetic stuff) -
@Blitzkrieger
I must admit, i went 'too' far on my post few timesmost posts are posted just after i once again tried to play my Mercs again, not a good thing.
The view on DoT's may vary, probably based on my own playstyle through out the years. I go for a 'everything you can kill instantly, do so', rather then spread out damage over a peroid of time if you can trash out the damage straight away.
But overall, you do have to admit they never can be par with any other MM primairy, dispite they being 100% ranged. Ok, they do have a immobilise power, but eventualy mobs will reach them at melee at wich point they have no advantage anymore over any other class. (bots have heal, ninja have slight more defence, necro.. well u got extract soul and they got selfheal, thugs got their defence). -
In 'a' mob or a group of 12 minions?
Totaly depends on the mobs. If you have 12, big chance WP will win (pretty sure he will). Put them against 1 warrior, dark will win (they have higher SL, while WP wont have enough regen to counter). Dark would hopefully be good enough with only his natural regen.
For anything that can survive kinda anything without doing anything (plain toggles), that would be granite. -
[ QUOTE ]
Which still doesn't make them any less capable of doing the job of an MM primary properly, unless the persn in question is playing Ninjas as their first MM ever.
[/ QUOTE ]
Again, as Gravitos already said, you ever played a Merc at high lvl? My 2nd MM ever made (prob 3 months after CoV release) is a merc, so i didnt pick the 'best' secondairy (TA) i do have an insane ammount of playtime on this character.
Graveknights can actualy do quite decent, no wait, they outdamage those seals of Merc. As bonus, they have -acc on their attacks also. Also, you should have known, its not they who stop running, its intended only a limited ammount of pets will engage melee with 1 mob. Its nothing differnt then having to send in Thug 3 because he try to keep trowing a rock.
Random post of me in december 2006 (yup, thats 2 YEARS ago i already had a 39 Merc).
[ QUOTE ]
Fullauto's. They use it at the most wrong moments, cleared nearly a full group of mobs, 1 mob left. 10 health left of a mob and Commando starts his full auto.
Redraw animation. No you dont have to put your gun away when u take down 1 mob and 12 are left. Keep it and continue attack. Waste of time. AR blaster dont have to do this, even I dont have to do redraw my bow every time i do a power.
Nearly all powers they have are massive DoT based. This means if 1 mob is left and about 25hp left, 1 merc starts his 5x5 DoT. At the 2nd DoT hit, the other 6 decide to do fullauto, a long animation DoT. Result... 10 seconds wasted for 25 stupid hp.
Seals snipe. Again, they hardly use this power. It seems u have to keep them 100ft away and then let attack them a mob, only way i managed to get them to use snipe.
[/ QUOTE ]
These issues never got fixed, never changed, still give problems. I wont even mention the medic who remains, since day 1, being stuck with the most retarted AI i've ever seen on any pet. LRM missile, stealth, medic heal/mezprot, redraw, missing power (Commando was always said to have turret).
Being 100% ranged doesnt always means its 'good'. They fall out of bubbles (/trap), often miss healing from the team (since they mostly closer to the brute, who is in center).
Also the upgrade animations remains still the LONGEST of all other primairy (dark being fastest, ninja/thug followed, then bots, way below is merc).
So what does Merc need? Several fixes, that is for sure.
few randoms:
-Remove at least 1 DoT and replace by instant dmg.
-Ditch the stealth or make it usefull like Ninja (crit)
-force LRM and snipe shot being done at any range (not 100ft+ only).
-make heal non-interuptable (like zombi/bots).
-STOP the freaking redraw after every freaking mob. (they never got normalisation like AR blaster got).
-give them some non-SL damage. Not only flametrower commando, but tier1 or 2. (see other sets).
-Reduce flash/teargas recharge, reduce duration (to balance lack of mezz tier 3 - or damage on that mather).
-reduce upgrade time.
Perhaps Gravitos would agree on these things, most are ongoing issues over 2 years now that never got any attention. -
Best MMO ever = We only played patience, but who will know?
Huge world to explore = we just multiply our play map by 4.
Most advanced graphics = we limit the FPS and advice you to run at lower details, high = auto crash.
award winning game = having the best coffee is worth an award ok!?
MMOzine gave it a 9! = out of 100, who cares.
Cunning edge graphics = if you are very drunk, sitting at 5 meters from a 15 inch screen. really.
Update is comming soon = erm.. we start on it tomorow.
Server stability issues = i told you a 386dx wont run it.. -

Not getting the lady Grey proc effect nerfed is the best we can hope for here. They have just finished up the Poison Trap, and I must say they did a fine job making it as boring and moderately useful as possible.
You *just* need Achilles' Heel, Lady Grey proc, and Assault to do damage with mercs. And you better have a debuff in your secondary to go with that, or else you're just taking up a valuable team slot. He he...
---
[/ QUOTE ]
Meh, i am /TA, so i basicly can reach the highest -resist debuff on all secondairy, still it wont get close to my zombies or bots. (i wont mention thugs.. no i just wont). I btw have all those procs and assault.
And ninja with perma smoke bomb is funny also, 1 pet doing nonstop crits

Terrible, horrible, uneducated exaggeration. Please stop spreading lies before new players who don't know any better accidentally read them.

Oh, so you are suddenly very constructive? -

[ QUOTE ]
Isnt it odd that def sets (ice particulary) has recharge debuff resist, gets -def resist, while resist sets get virtualy nothing?
[/ QUOTE ]
Resistance automatically resists resistance debuffs. [If you have 50% resistance, and get hit by a -10% resistance debuff, that will be reduced to a -5% debuff before being applied].
[/ QUOTE ]
Hm, does this apply in PvP too? I did a match against a sonic not long ago on testserver, my atrib window showed my SL resist dropping to just above 55%. Based on a 90% (thus 35%), it would mean he did a 350% resist debuff? o.0 -

[ QUOTE ]
Fiery is only one of many that cant counter recharge/slow debuffs.
[/ QUOTE ]You mean except for the passive recharge/slow debuff resistance that the powerset has?
[/ QUOTE ]
A change that has been added just recently, justify the ages it did without? Added, it wasnt done because they needed it, was merely because temp.protection was plain lousy as power to pick. -
[ QUOTE ]
Well, Fiery Aura has -recharge resistance now. Though, you were going up against one of your powerset's particular weaknesses, so why complain?
And numerically I still fail to see how Shields is any weaker than other currently existing Defense sets. "Probably will never be" is just plain stupid.
[/ QUOTE ]
I was wondering why defence sets get -recharge resist, while imho resist sets would need it more. Where i fail to see the link with your post, since every group of mobs have a 'weakness attack' one way or another. (may it be drain, recharge debuff, tohit debuff or any form of it). Fiery is only one of many that cant counter recharge/slow debuffs.
As i said earlier about the set (tank topic), pure defence wont cut a cooky, it is the set as whole that makes it not viable. (try to keep up your mezz toggle while having the -snowstorm toggle on your butty). -
Isnt it odd that def sets (ice particulary) has recharge debuff resist, gets -def resist, while resist sets get virtualy nothing?
Both recharge and def debuffs of most attacks needs to hit, on def sets this less likely to happen and if it does, it will be at a 'lower' rate.
resist debuff however resistsets can defend against, along having no def debuff resist, it will basicly always hit. I remember my fire tank getting trashed by those council ice shots, putting my recharge to a nearly complete halt. Since fire tanker only can rely on healing flames, death was quite nearby.
As for shields, i stick to my point, it never is and probably never will be a proper tank set. -
Catch the irony there? To make mercs 'closer' to the other pets, you gonna use methods that initialy were made to 'increase' your already good toon.
